If I can do it, so can you! Don’t hold yourself back, and as Ken would say, “Show up with positivity or don’t show up at all!”

Welcome back to another episode of "It’s Simply Life!" Today, we're getting cozy in our brand-new recording spot, Dream Studios, in Arlington, TX. Today, we're discussing something I’m very passionate about and talk about all the time: the magic of crafting your brand story. A brand story is the foundation for any successful brand. Curious about what it is? Or maybe why your business absolutely needs one? And how do you even know if it's working for you? We're breaking it all down and diving deep. So, stick around, and let's journey through this storytelling adventure together!

In this episode I discuss:

  • The importance of simplifying life
  • The constant bombardment of information and demands
  • Losing focus on what truly matters
  • Creating space for joy, happiness, and connection by simplifying
  • The importance of a brand story
  • Emotional connection and relationship building through a brand story
  • Crafting your brand story
  • Humanizing your brand
  • Defining your target audience
  • What should be incorporated in your brand story: values, struggles, achievements, mission
  • How to relate to your audience
  • Shifting from traditional advertising methods to relatable branding in the modern age
  • The impact of a brand story
  • How storytelling cuts through the noise
  • My real-life examples of good storytelling
  • Online metrics for measuring the impact: engagement, comments, DMs
  • Storytelling framework
  • Building a community
  • Guiding your audience through a journey to solve their problems
  • The transformation that happens when someone engages with your brand

Key Takeaways

  • Craft a Hero: The heart of your brand story lies in positioning your audience as the hero. It's not just about selling a product or service; it's about understanding their pain points (the villain) and guiding them through an evolution. Your customers are essentially buying this transformation.
  • Emotion Over Logic: Forget the feature lists for a minute. What people truly connect with is emotion. So, think about the feelings you want your audience to experience and weave that into your brand's story. It's not about what you're selling but how you make people feel. Why? Because emotions, not logic, drive decisions.
  • Community is Queen: Your brand story isn’t just a marketing tool; it's a community-building instrument. Imagine the power you wield by bringing people together, united by a common journey or goal. It’s not just about consumer relationships; it's about building a tribe. And when people choose to join your community, that's not just business—it's an honor.

As a marketer, I understand the importance of having more than just a marketing strategy—it's about having a fail-safe contingency plan. Social media platforms can be unpredictable, and experiencing sudden suspensions or shutdowns is a real risk. However, I've discovered that cultivating an engaged email list is a reliable communication ensuring that my connections with followers and customers remain intact even during challenging times. Having an email list is not just about marketing; it's a vital lifeline that safeguards my ability to stay in touch with my audience and keep them informed and engaged.

In this episode, I discuss:

  • Importance of owned versus rented platforms and email marketing
  • Benefits of newsletters and providing value to the audience
  • Difference between newsletters and email marketing campaigns
  • Simplifying the email marketing process and using automation systems
  • Strategies for effective email marketing and building an engaged list
  • Importance of metrics and analyzing email campaign effectiveness
  • Power of collaboration and sharing in email marketing
  • Creating a contact us page or landing page to segment the email list
  • Value of non-client subscribers and social proof
  • Simplifying email marketing by including offers in newsletters
  • Importance of building an email list versus relying on social media

Key Takeaways:

  • Building an Email List for Resilient Communication: A well-maintained email list is a vital marketing strategy and contingency plan for businesses and content creators. As social media platforms can be unpredictable, relying solely on them for communication can be risky. Cultivating an engaged email list establishes a reliable communication backup, safeguarding connections with followers and customers.
  • Unlocking the Power of Newsletters for Nurturing Relationships: Newsletters are potent tools for meaningful audience connections, delivering curated content to subscribers' inboxes. Unlike social media, they offer an exclusive space for focused, personalized information, keeping the creator's brand in mind for potential clients and advocates.
  • Focus on and Achieve Well-Defined Email Marketing Objectives: Set clear, measurable goals to maximize email marketing's potential. Whether building a subscriber base, promoting products, or nurturing leads, defined objectives provide focus and direction. Analyzing campaign performance against these goals yields valuable insights for continuous improvement.

Building and maintaining an email list is crucial for businesses and content creators to have a direct communication channel with their audience, especially in case of any issues with social media platforms. By curating valuable content and simplifying the email marketing process, creators can stay connected with their audience, foster a sense of community, and achieve their marketing objectives more effectively.

For years, I found myself conforming to the expectations of others or what I thought I should be. But now, I've embraced my true self and become the person I was always meant to be. I’ve created my life by design. I've learned to take risks and forge my own path while staying true to my own beliefs and values.   • The importance of self-talk;
  • Why confidence played a huge role in starting my business;
  • Getting rid of things and people that don’t serve your growth;
  • The routines that keep me happy, healthy, and in a positive mind frame;
  • The stress of trying to build a business while marketing your business;
  • Creating transformational stories for clients;
  • Don’t chase clients- instead, show up with value;
  • Nurturing clients with information;
  • The difference between marketing and sales;
  • The importance of keeping it simple

In doing this episode with Ken, I discovered that my path in life, while hard and tragic, lead me to where I am now, exactly where I need to be. Thriving, traveling, and living a life I designed. If I can do it, so can you! Don’t hold yourself back and as Ken would say, “Show up with positivity or don’t show up at all!”

Go be awesome!

Three takeaways to simplify your marketing:

  • Know where your clients “hang out” (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook)
  • Focus on that platform and engage daily
  • Be consistent

‘Tis the season for that week in between Christmas and New Year’s where time seems non-existent, and everyone is scraping by. Instead of letting this crazy week dictate my mood, I decided to take some time to reflect on 2022 and how I’d like to show up for 2023. After inventorying my year, I recognized that I’ve come to a place in my life where I’m able to hold space for others- something I haven’t always been capable of, but something that I have received from people when I was in need. What does holding space mean and why am I proud to be able to provide it for my “circle”? Let’s talk about it.

In this episode I discuss:

  • What it means to hold space for others;
  • Having the capacity to hold space for others;
  • How people close to me helped me during tragic times;
  • The simple act of being present with another person;
  • Connection through contact;
  • Listening without judgment or an agenda;
  • The challenges of creating space for people;
  • Meeting someone where they’re at;
  • Realizing you can’t fix or change someone’s problems;
  • How I’m able to show up for others by practicing self-care (super important)

As I said, I haven’t always been able to connect with my friends and family in this way. But now that I’m more confident in myself and my capabilities, I can clear space from my needs and pour that space back into my loved ones in need. I find that my capacity to hold space for others increases as I care for myself. In 2023, I expect that space to grow.

So, here’s to 2023, a year of peace and prosperity and enough space for those that need it.

Key Takeaways to Simplify Your Life:

  1. Don’t set a New Year’s Resolution
  2. Go into 2023 with a mindset of peace and prosperity
  3. Clear the clutter- get rid of three items in your house that you don’t need or use

The holiday season is upon us. It’s a time for laughter, love, and light- so why do we often make it about overindulging? In the past, I was part of the culture of excess around the holidays. I had the perfect decorations, the most aesthetic wrapping papers, and the cutest baked goods gifts for friends and neighbors. I dressed up, hosted parties, over consumed alcohol and food. From the outside, I did everything right. But in reality, I was overindulging in every aspect.

In this episode I discuss:

  • Overconsumption during the holidays;
  • Reflecting on past Christmases;
  • Why we feel the need to “keep up”;
  • Presenting a different version of myself to the world;
  • The chaos that ensues around the holidays;
  • How to enjoy holiday traditions without overindulging;
  • Recognizing that Christmas is about “who” and not “what”;
  • The mindset of setting resolutions for New Years

We’ve all heard it before, “Christmas is about spending time with loved ones” but are we really able to put that into practice when we have nine million other things to do? For me, simplifying my holidays means not sending Christmas cards, not baking trays of cookies for the entire neighborhood which allowed me to instead fill that time in the company of the people that mean the most to me.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Key Takeaways to Simplify Your Life:

  1. Don’t stress yourself out doing things you don’t want to do
  2. Eat a healthy meal prior to a holiday party so you won’t overindulge
  3. Don’t wait until the New Year to set goals- start now!

Hi, y’all! I learned a lot by traveling for the past 7 months, but one of the most important things I learned that resonated deeply with me was that conformity kills confidence. When I first told people of my plans to travel, I was met with serious questions and a slew of doubts. Their skepticism made me uncertain of my decision, even though it was something that I really wanted to pursue.

So, I made the commitment to travel despite my hesitation and figured it out on the way. What I discovered was that my business skyrocketed, my creativity increased, and my ability to find joy made its way into every aspect of my life. From this adventure, I realized that I could handle anything that comes my way. If I had caved into the doubt of others, I would never have had these amazing experiences.

In this episode I discuss:

  • Four ways to find your own voice;
  • Creating your own rules;
  • Showing up with confidence and authority;
  • Finding inspiration from within;
  • Questioning my relationships with people to discover if I’m valued the way I value them;
  • The benefits of taking risks;
  • Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone;
  • Don’t be afraid to be the outlier;
  • Starting on a venture before you have all the answers;
  • Embracing failure

My life has done a complete 180 in the past year, and I know it’s because I listened to myself. I found ways to inspire myself, stepped out of my comfort zone, figured out a plan along the way, and learned to trust myself in a way that I hadn’t before. Now, I’m not afraid to take up space because I’ve found the unshakeable confidence to do so- you can too. Start now!

Key Takeaways to Simplify Your Life:

  1. No is a complete sentence
  2. Get out in nature
  3. Take something off your to-do list

Hi everyone! By the time you listen, I’ll be back home! Landing in Texas marks the end of a 7-month journey that I am so grateful for. I’ve always been a bit envious of friends and family who would go on beautiful vacations, and now, I have my own memories of a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

I made so many friends on this trip, saw so many amazing places, and connected with nature. But, Dorothy was right when she said, “there’s no place like home.” I’m very happy to be back home, in my own bed, with my own things.

In this episode I discuss:

  • How I made 7 months of travel happen on a budget;
  • Where I went;
  • What I learned;
  • The trust that goes into house and pet sitting;
  • Going with the flow during travel;
  • Solo- travel;
  • How I maintained a business while traveling;
  • My plans for next year

Traveling alone for an extended period of time is something I wish everyone was able to do. I learned so much about myself and other people during this time and got to spend time drinking in everything nature has to offer. Some people ask me whether it was hard to do I always answer “of course!” But a few uncomfortable situations don’t take away from my time as a whole being completely worth it. Personally, I can't think of a greater joy than being able to look at myself and think “I did it!”

I’m soaking up all Bend, OR has to offer! This town is seriously a dream, especially for nature lovers. The scenery is gorgeous, there are scenic trails everywhere, and the weather right now is perfect! I’ve also been eating and drinking my way through some of the cute cafes in town. Of course, I enjoy a treat as much as the next person, but as I looked at the options in the small little cafes’ I started to see a pattern. Sugar. Sugar everywhere. This got me thinking about our United States food system and how little we actually know about the food we consume.

In this episode I discuss:

  • Corruption in the US food system;
  • The number of lobbyists for the Dept. of Agriculture within Congress;
  • Why our food is so processed;
  • How our food is making us sick;
  • How food can be the cure to our sicknesses;
  • Ingredients in our food;
  • Lack of education around nutrition and consumption;
  • Fad diets;
  • The US food industry vs. other nations;
  • Taking time to read and understand food labels;
  • Rebuilding a broken system;
  • Practicing being mindful of what we are consuming

The US food system cannot be ignored. The more people talk about it, the more awareness there is of the poison we are masking as food, which in turn creates a sense of urgency to fix the system. I truly believe that the entire organization needs an overhaul. If you feel the same- let’s talk about it!

It’s autumn and I’m in Bend, OR soaking up the beautiful weather in this gorgeous place! I’ve seen so much in the short time that I’ve been here, that I know it will have a lasting impact on me when I leave. I know I’ve said it before, but if you’re thinking of visiting, this is your sign!

This week, I’ve decided to open up and share my entrepreneurial journey. Like everyone else who has made the decision to build a business, I didn’t have any idea where to start. I jumped around from platform to platform, hoping that something would stick- and I worked my ass off until something finally did. Buckle up! It’s quite a ride.

In this episode I discuss:

  • How I lost my job and gained a business;
  • Making the decision not to work for someone else;
  • Starting off unsure of what my business was going to look like;
  • How I almost started a personal coaching business;
  • Utilizing social media platforms to create awareness;
  • Building a brand;
  • Paid vs. Organic social media;
  • Consistency and engagement;
  • Showing up with value;
  • Studying successful women;
  • The importance of shifting;
  • How to gain confidence in yourself as an entrepreneur;
  • The importance of learning through failure

Two years ago, I didn’t have what I have now. I didn’t always have clients whom I aligned with. I took on some clients solely out of my need for money. Today, I can choose what clients I want to work with, I have an amazing team, am constantly learning, and am excited about what is next! None of that would be possible without first traveling the road that brought me where I am now.

I encourage anyone who is interested in or has thought about starting their own entrepreneurial journey. It’s not going to be easy, in fact, it’s the one thing I can guarantee! But if you stick with it, if you show up, if you’re consistent, YOU CAN DO IT!

I’m on the road again and joining you from Bend, OR. If you haven’t been or have been waiting for a sign to go, this is it. GO! It’s an awesome place with so much beauty, especially during the fall. In this stunning place, I made the decision to get real with you all. This episode is personal and vulnerable, and I sincerely hope it resonates with some of you. I’ve decided to talk about my hair loss journey, something which I’ve never really talked about to anyone outside of my circle. So, here we go!

In this episode I discuss:

  • How a simple gesture helped me discover a goiter on my right thyroid;
  • Getting the goiter removed;
  • Being medicated for my thyroid for the past TWENTY years;
  • Resulting hair loss from treatments, etc.;
  • My journey researching vitamins, supplements, and therapies for hair regrowth;
  • Discovering stress as a trigger for hair loss;
  • Embarrassment and being self-conscious because of my hair loss and how to deal;
  • Finally finding products and routines that are working;
  • Consistency

I made the decision this year to get serious and consistent about my hair loss and what I could do to help my hair regrow. Some products have been costly, some haven’t worked, and some, full of chemicals, caused me physical pain. But now- after months of consistency with the right products, I’m finally starting to see improvement.

If you’ve dealt with hair loss, you know how upsetting it can be, especially if you’re a woman. If you feel stuck or embarrassed, check out some of the links below and PLEASE, PLEASE reach out to me!

After a week's hiatus from the podcast, I’m back! What a week it has been, I went through a situation with my car being broken into and dealing with that for multiple days. I did record a podcast, and as promised, it went into detail about my 5-month long travel journey, but I’ve got to be honest, I didn’t love the content! So, I started over fresh this week with a topic that I’ve been thinking about recently: The pressure we put on our children.

I’m from Texas and if you don’t know, sports matter here! My children, nieces, and nephews were involved in high-level sports from a young age. I’ve been thinking back and although, I don’t regret (and neither do they) putting my children in sports, there are a couple of things I would have done differently.

In this episode I discuss:

  • Personal experience with children in sports;
  • The pressure we put on our children to perform;
  • “Sports Parents”;
  • Prioritizing winning over the love of the game;
  • The energy, time, and money that went into sports teams;
  • How playing in high-level sports creates a constant environment of competition and the need to win;
  • Why we should let kids be kids

My kids never asked to be taken out of their respective sports. They loved playing, but in retrospect, I think I could have balanced out their “team time” with “kid time”. In today’s world- the expectations and pressure we put on children is insane. I hope that as time passes, the priority to win will be less than having fun and enjoying childhood.

Stay tuned next for next week, as I’ll be back on the road and joining you from Bend, OR!

This week, I’m joining you from home! After a long five-month travel experience, I’ve finally landed in Texas. Returning home after so long had me reflecting and thinking how presently, I’m enjoying my life so much. I realized that’s because, at this current time, I’m my most authentic self. But it hasn’t always been this way. I wasn’t always the person that I am now, in fact, I was far from it.

In this episode I discuss:

  • Becoming someone else during my marriage;
  • Expectations from society in regard to being a mother and wife;
  • Presenting perfection;
  • Losing myself to material, external things;
  • Making sure everything looked perfect from the outside;
  • Figuring out that my lifestyle wasn’t aligning with my true self;
  • People pleasing;
  • My moment of realization;
  • Rediscovering myself;
  • Redefining my style
  • Self-acceptance;
  • Balancing empathy and kindness with living life my way

It’s not easy to come to the realization that you’ve been living a life based on someone else’s terms. The process of rediscovering yourself and your style is full of ups and downs. It may take some time to figure out who you are, but the reward of living authentically makes the journey worth it because you get to live life for yourself!

My time in Maui is coming to an end; because of this, I’ve been reflecting a lot on the past couple of years of my life. This month marks my three-year anniversary with podcasting, and I’ve fallen in love with the medium. I thoroughly enjoy discussing what’s on my mind and interacting with my listeners. I’ve been extremely lucky to see my dreams come to fruition. As I wrap up my time here, I've been thinking about the people that I’ve met along my travels and the bonds that I’ll remember forever. I realized how much harder it is to make friends as an adult vs. as a teen or young adult.

In this episode I discuss:

  • My five months on the road;
  • How long it took for me to meet people in the places I stayed;
  • Making friends as an adult vs. as a child;
  • Opportunities to make friends as an adult;
  • Finding peace by traveling and connecting with nature;
  • The power of grounding;
  • Journaling to preserve memories;

I’m so excited to introduce my sister, Bobbi, in this episode! My sister is my rock, someone whom I can bounce ideas off of, and whom I respect and admire. We choose separate paths in life, me being an entrepreneur, and her being CEO of a large non-profit. Regardless of our difference in work, we see the same patterns concerning females in the workforce, and in general.

In today’s episode we discuss:

  • Struggles that women face in the workforce;
  • Our experiences with imposter syndrome and how to combat these feelings;
  • Insecurity in the workforce;
  • Why women championing women is important;
  • Getting a message across using empathy;
  • Personal experiences dealing with men vs. women at work;
  • Mindset and confidence in a male-dominated world;
  • Some shocking statistics;
  • Why female-dominated fields are historically low paying;
  • Philosophies on how a male-dominated workforce came to be;
  • Raising men to be allies of women

Women bring a unique set of highly beneficial skills to the workplace, so why does it seem they’re being punished for it? It’s a controversial topic, but it’s one worth exploring and creating a dialogue around. Have you experienced anything like this in your life or within your office? Share your stories!

When is the last time you turned on the TV and didn’t see an ad for alcohol? Can you remember? Our society glorifies alcohol. There’s always a reason to drink; a girl’s night out, a football game, a summer BBQ, the list goes on. But when you turn off the tv and the ads of partying on a beach go black or when you return home from a summer BBQ tipsy, what are you left with? How do you feel? Why is alcohol so ingrained in our culture that if you choose not to drink, you're the outlier? These questions have been on my mind recently and I’ve decided to speak about them.

In this episode I discuss:

  • Glorification of alcohol in our culture;
  • Impacts of alcohol in the home;
  • Alcohol ads vs. real life;
  • My personal decision not to entertain alcohol;
  • What lead to my decision to not drink;
  • How my life has changed without alcohol;
  • How to deal with social events when you aren’t drinking;
  • The stigma around choosing not to drink;
  • How alcohol lowered my vibration;
  • My experiences in Al-Anon

Again, these are my personal decisions and experiences and what works for me may not work for everyone. I can say without a doubt, that my decision to leave alcohol behind has yielded only positive results.

If alcohol has impacted you, your family, or your friends, or if you’ve been toying with the idea of not drinking- give this a listen, and if you feel comfortable doing so, comment on your own experiences! I’d love to hear them!

We make decisions every day. Some decisions are small, “what color lipstick should I wear?” or “what music should I listen to?” Other decisions change the course of our lives. “Should I try and find a new job?” or “Should I leave my relationship?” The point is that regardless of whether we notice, our paths are carved out by the millions of decisions that we make. But what happens when you don’t make the decision? Not making the decision, allows space for someone else to make it for you.

In this episode I discuss:

  • Being decisive to a fault;
  • The hardship of decision-making;
  • Focusing your time and energy on where certain decisions have landed you;
  • Believing in the decisions you make;
  • Looking back with regret;
  • Shame and guilt from wishing you’d made a different decision;
  • Trusting that you made the best decision for yourself at the time;
  • Focusing on what is in front of you;
  • Accepting your decisions
  • Creating your own destiny with what you have

Decision-making isn’t always easy. Sure, you’re taking a risk of missing out by making the decision to say “no” or “yes”. But, if you frame it from a different perspective, you’re exactly where you should be because that’s where you are

Now that I’m in Hawaii, I decided to take advantage of the ocean and take up paddleboarding. Before Maui, I had been once or twice, and those couple times were on a lake with friends. Here, I’m by myself. In the Pacific Ocean. It’s a situation that could induce panic had I let it. But instead of giving into my fears, I thought instead, “what’s the worst that could happen?” I took that mindset when I went paddleboarding the next day and the day after that, and I had a moment of clarity. I was getting better. And then, I realized that this progression with paddleboarding is the perfect analogy for any situation that requires growth of confidence through experience. So, of course, I had to share!

In this episode, I discuss:

  • Recognizing fears;
  • Pushing past limits;
  • How confidence is created through experience;
  • My anxieties at the beginning of my entrepreneur journey;
  • Making mistakes;
  • A client that almost broke me;
  • Failure being part of the path to confidence;
  • Seizing opportunities;
  • Growing a team;
  • Allowing yourself the chance to grow;
  • Self-discovery and knowledge as a life-long journey;
  • Surround yourself with people who challenge you to be better.

Building confidence is a journey that isn’t ever really over. Instead, through experience and pushing past fears, you discover new things to be confident about! It’s taken me a while to get where I am now- personally and in terms of business. If I hadn’t taken risks or if I let that one client break me, I wouldn’t be here talking to you from the beautiful island of Maui. So, take the risk, learn from your mistakes, and grow that confidence through amazing experiences! You can do this!

If you’re like me... I totally recommend you go check out Magic Mind community of go-getters. You can also use my discount code LISA20 to get 40% off your first subscription or 20% off your first one-time purchase. My 40% off code only lasts 10 days, so hurry up.

This week I had to narrow down everything I wanted to share! I’m learning so much in Maui that it can be hard to pick just one topic to talk about; however, I think this week’s podcast focuses on something so important and precious, that I couldn’t NOT talk about it. Time. We all know how short our time is, but have you ever sat and really thought about it? Have you ever taken inventory of your life and compared it with the time we have? Are you doing what you want to do? Are you living your life according to your authentic self? I have. Now more than ever I’m realizing how necessary it is to live a life you love.

In this episode I discuss:

  • How my marriage propelled me into being someone that I wasn’t;
  • Hiding part of my adventurous, creative nature to align with traditional marriage values;
  • Fear of rejection;
  • How divorce allowed me to rediscover who I genuinely am;
  • Having the courage to live a life that aligns with your own core values;
  • How entrepreneurship gave me back my ability to choose my life;
  • Untangling your life from the daily grind;
  • The “big picture”;
  • Living life on your own terms;
  • How to stop chasing after things that don’t matter;
  • Getting your time back by designing a fulfilled life.

For twenty years of my life, I was chasing the “American dream” with my ex-husband. Now I’m living out of a suitcase, housesitting for someone I don’t personally know, in Maui, relishing the fact that I’m prioritizing my time, myself, and my business over all else. Time is one of the only things you can’t get back and that you can’t get more of. It’s time to start living the life you want!

If you’re like me... I totally recommend you go check out Magic Mind community of go-getters. You can also use my discount code LISA20 to get 40% off your first subscription or 20% off your first one-time purchase. My 40% off code only lasts 10 days, so hurry up.

Aloha (still) from Maui! In the last episode, I promised to explain how I ended up in Hawaii for two months, so in this episode, I’m sharing everything! When my adult children moved out of the house, I decided to take a gamble and put my home on Airbnb. I joined an app called Trusted Housesitters and my journey started.

In this episode I discuss:

  • Decluttering my home to put it on Airbnb;
  • How the TrustedHousesitters app works;
  • How travel has allowed me to discover things and places that I like and don’t like;
  • The hardships of living out of a suitcase;
  • Being okay with living the life you want;
  • Living up to your own expectations and not others’ expectations of you;
  • Figuring out life as it happens;
  • Simplifying my life from STUFF;
  • Collecting experiences and relationships over material things;
  • Traveling to enhance your life, not run away from it.

I’ve learned a lot in the four months that I’ve been traveling. I’m extremely grateful to be in a position that allows me to explore the world one town at a time! I’ve crafted my life so that I can do what I’d like with my time. You can too!

Aloha! Joining you this week from Hawaii and it’s just as magical as you’ve heard. My first few days here and I’ve already learned an important lesson. Take a journey with me on my 5-hour trip on the road to Hana- and hear how the dangerous, lengthy, twisting road mimics the journey of life.

In this episode I discuss:

  • The beautiful scenery in Hawaii (I had to spend some time on this- it’s gorgeous here!);
  • The journey vs. the destination;
  • The dangers of this narrow, winding road and how it relates to the hardships in life;
  • Appreciating the journey;
  • Being present in the moment;
  • Arriving at the destination;
  • The ease of knowing what to expect;
  • Life as a journey;
  • Goals as the destination;
  • Earth connections

Life is a constant climb to get to a destination, but if you’re only concerned with getting there, you’re going to miss the beauty of the journey along the way. So, as I learned on the road to Hana, take it slow, enjoy the ride, and be present for all the beautiful things that might come your way. Appreciate the journey!

Wondering how I ended up in Hawaii? Stay tuned for the upcoming episodes- I’ll discuss how I got into pet sitting, where it’s taken me, and the beautiful places I’ve been able to see because of it.

This past week has been a whirlwind of stressful situations. In this episode, I dive into what made my week frustrating and how I turned the frustration into an opportunity to learn. We all deal with circumstances that aren’t ideal but when you shift from a victim mentality to a place of self-care, you’ll begin to see growth. I’ll go over the ways that I stopped myself from spiraling into a “woe is me” attitude and channeled that energy to make the best decisions for myself.

In this episode I discuss:

  • My crazy week and how pet sitting brought me to an uncomfortable place;
  • Stressful situations;
  • The importance of comfort;
  • How I discovered things that aren’t for me;
  • Self-care over making sure others are okay;
  • Things you can control and how to handle things that you can’t;
  • Making yourself a priority;
  • Nature therapy;
  • Trusting yourself

I had a major realization throughout this week about how the old me would have handled the situation and how I actually handled it. The biggest takeaway I got was that if you’re not comfortable in a situation- you can change it!

I’m not holding back in episode three of It’s Simply Life. In light of the recent news in Roe v. Wade, I thought it was important to discuss what got us to this point. I try to take a hugely controversial decision and break it down into thinking points. Where and why do we place blame? I’ll go over that. How did this happen? I’ll talk about that too. Tune in and let’s listen to each other as we navigate through this sensitive topic.

In this episode I discuss:

  • How expressing thoughts on social media isn’t a solution;
  • The power behind the two-party system;
  • How money is a driving force in today’s society;
  • Critical thinking;
  • Individuality;
  • Lack of dialogue around taboo topics;
  • Encouraging education of mindfulness;
  • Setting yourself up with the tools to get through this

If you don’t agree with what I’m saying that is fine. That’s the point- to listen. To people. To individuals who think differently than you because no matter what, we can learn something from our differences.

This week we’re taking a deep dive into the concepts presented in the book 4,000 Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. If we live to 80 years old, we’ll have around 4,000 weeks to live. Yes, 4,000. This number really puts into perspective how short our time on this planet really is. So, I’m breaking down how to step away from the constant need to be productive and to reclaim a space in stillness.

In this episode I discuss:

  • How my days used to be filled from beginning to end with non-stop productivity.
  • Hustle culture.
  • The exhaustion that comes with doing too much and how to counteract it;
  • The sense of failure around producing less;
  • Looking at the bigger picture.
  • Prioritizing cultivating relationships and experiences over productivity.
  • How to balance being still and creating.
  • Taking time for self-care

How will you spend your 4,000 weeks?

Welcome to the It’s Simply Life Podcast! I’m back with a brand-new mission: to fuse the challenges of entrepreneurship with daily life and everything in between. Of course, we’ll still discuss marketing, social media, and branding, but with It’s Simply Life, we will also discuss daily struggles, wins, and how to become the best possible version of yourself. To kick things off, I thought I’d start with some things I’ve learned this past year balancing traveling, marketing, and now podcasting (again).

In this episode I discuss:

  • Information Influx and how it can lead to feelings of inadequacy;
  • The stress and anxiety that comes with trying to do it all;
  • Navigating information to highlight key takeaways;
  • Optimizing your day;
  • Morning routines;
  • Leaving behind things that don’t suit us; and
  • Doing things that make you feel like your most authentic self

In the next episode, I discuss the important lessons I learned while reading Four Thousand Weeks: Time management for mortals and why we feel so bad for simply being.

Creating Connections on Social Media

Discover how to really connect with your audience on digital platforms, on social media, or through email. The goal is to find out what your audience really wants or what they really need, so you have to be listening on the platforms that they're hanging out on.

Key Takeaways:

  • Set a posting cadence. I have a recommendation for posting on Social Media 3 to 5 times a week. But that's gonna differ by platforms
  • Share great content from other thought leaders.
  • Share your own great content.
  • Sprinkling in some helpful promotion. but you want to make sure that you're really spending time adding value rather than selling them.
  • So a good rule of thumb is to serve, serve, serve sell.

Which version of your life do you let others see? In the age of social media, we flash only the best parts of ourselves up on a screen, hoping our peers won’t look a layer deeper and see the mess. It’s time to be brave, be vulnerable, and open up to each other so we can heal together.

Lyndol Keith is a man of many talents - speaker, storyteller, event host - but his real passion lies with his efforts to remove the stigma around mental health struggles and facilitate both healthy conversations on the subject and better treatment. He works toward these goals alongside the campaign to change direction and 320 Festival to revolutionize the way we take care of ourselves and heal one another.

On this episode of the Recognize Your Truth podcast, Lisa and Lyndol lend some clarity to the epidemic of silence surrounding battles with mental illness, natural ways to care for our brains without harmful drugs, and how art can transform our society’s consciousness for the better. Check it out to be part of the mental health movement.

You’ll Learn

  • How the 320 Festival is changing - and saving - lives, one event at a time
  • Why we’re afraid to open up about mental health issues, and ways to fight that fear
  • How social media has skyrocketed anxiety in our collective culture (and how to train your brain to recognize the programming)
  • And much more!
