Steve Skinner and Stacy Stein interview Dr. Amy MacNeill about her work to develop a coronavirus vaccine.
Dr. MacNeill graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in chemistry in 1994 and a doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1998. Following a year in private practice, she returned to the University of Florida to complete a Ph.D. in the laboratory of Dr. Richard Moyer and a residency in veterinary clinical pathology. She became a board-certified veterinary pathologist in 2004 and was awarded a Ph.D. in virology and immunology in 2005. That same year she joined the faculty at the University of Illinois as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathobiology and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. In 2014, she accepted a clinical pathology faculty position at Colorado State University. She coordinates the Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology Department Combined Residency Program. Her research interests include isolation and characterization of canine and feline tumor cells and the study of poxviruses as anticancer agents.

Kirk Klancke is the President of the Colorado River Headwaters Chapter of Trout Unlimited. He’s also a Board member of the Grand County Water Information Network and sits on the Learning By Doing Technical Committee. She discusses a recent survey her organization spearheaded testing workers at five long-term care facilities. They found a surprising number of asymptomatic cases. Their study is being ramped up to include more facilities throughout the state.
Dr. Ehrhart is the first woman at Colorado State University to receive a University Endowed Chair, is a veterinarian, board-certified surgical oncologist and professor of surgical oncology in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She was awarded the Ross M. Wilkins, M.D. Limb Preservation Chair in Musculoskeletal Biology and Oncology in 2015.
Stacy Stein and Steve Skinner interview Dr. Michelle Tollefson, board certified in lifestyle medicine as well as obstetrics and gynecology. She talks about the role that healthy lifestyle choices make in preventing chronic illness and how the medical profession is moving in a direction that supports a more holistic approach.
Dr. Tollefson's expertise in women’s lifestyle medicine throughout the lifespan encompasses pregnancy through menopause. She has been active in the lifestyle medicine and wellness coaching movement for over ten years. As the current Secretary of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine she serves on the college’s Executive Board, Education & Membership Committees, and co-chairs the Women’s Health as well as the Pre-Professional Lifestyle Medicine Education Working Groups. She developed and oversees the Lifestyle Medicine program at Metropolitan State University of Denver which houses the first bachelor’s level Lifestyle Medicine major and minor in the country. She was previously the Medical Director of Women’s Wellness Education for a Colorado health system and now volunteers at a non-profit clinic delivering women’s health focused lifestyle medicine.

Jason Clekler began his career as an RN. He has served as an RN in Emergency Departments, ICUs, as well as Inpatient Psychiatry Units.
Before joining Middle Park Health, Jason served as CEO of Delta County Memorial Hospital, a 49-bed not-for-profit rural hospital in Delta, Colorado, with nine outpatient clinics, home health services and two urgent care centers. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Men’s Journal, and Outside.
The New York Times proclaims, “Childs’s feats of asceticism are nothing if not awe inspiring: he’s a modern-day desert father.” The LA Times says his writing is like pure oxygen, and “stings like a slap in the face.” In addition to the Orion Book Award and two Sigurd Olson Nature Writing Awards, he has won the Ellen Meloy Desert Writers Award and the Rowell Art of Adventure Award. His most recent book, Atlas of a Lost World: Travels in Ice Age America, examines the dynamics of people moving into an uninhabited hemisphere in the late Pleistocene, documenting arrivals from Alaska to Florida to southern Chile.
Childs writes about the relationship between humans, animals, landscape, and time. His stories come from visceral, personal experience, whether in the company of illicit artifact dealers or in deep wilderness. A commentator for NPR’s Morning Edition, Childs is camping tonight in the harshest of conditions so he can report his findings back to us while we enjoy our coffee. Lauded as an adventurer and desert ecologist, he lives off the grid in Colorado.
