In today’s episode we examine the Nine of Pentacles and the Harvest Festival Haloa. As a warning, we do talk a lot about phallic imagery near the end of the episode.
The Nine of Pentacles signifies the end of our hard work, and the wisdom and satisfaction it has brought us. There is a responsibility to manage your success and new wealth, but also remember to take time for self-care. The Nine of Pentacles is really a balance between material accomplishment and spiritual wisdom; a combination of having wealth and taking pleasure from it.
The Haloa was a harvest festival in Attica where they would celebrate the gods Demeter, Persephone, and Dionysus. This was primarily a woman’s festival, however, men would celebrate at home in honor of Dionysus.

In today’s episode we examine the Eight of Pentacles and Hephaestus.
The Eight of Pentacle talks about hard work and dedication, as well as mastery of a skill. It has a man, who is a blacksmith, working on his craft and what he has thus accomplished is displayed in front of him. The eight tells us that the work you put in will be rewarded in the end; and implies a sense of financial and material security, if you remain committed to your task.
Hephaestus is the god of the forge, metallurgy, blacksmiths, and fire. He served as the blacksmith of the gods and made all of their weapons, which is why his attributes include a hammer, anvil, and a pair of tongs.

In the Seven of Pentacles we see a man who is deciding if it is the right time to harvest what he has cultivated, or wait and possibly repeat higher/more rewards from his efforts. This is not a time to do more work, but to wait, reflect, and assess the situation you have spent so much time on.
Eileithyia is the Greek goddess of childbirth; she assists women with childbirth but she can also delay it, which we see in two of today’s myths. Heqet is the Egyptian goddess of childbirth and fertility, and she is also associated with the annual flood season of the Nile. Heqet is depicted as a frog with a woman’s body.

In today's episode we examine the Two of Pentacles and Work Life Balance (Otium and Negotium).
The in the two of pentacles we see a juggler balancing two pentacles that are in motion. To stay balanced we must stay in motion, however, if we are doing too much, then this card can indicate a need to set something aside to achieve a more balanced state.
We also explore the Roman idea of Otium vs Negotium, which is ultimately about work/life balance. Otium means leisure, or leisure time, and negotium is the opposite (literally non leisure). Negotium represents daily business affairs for the Romans, it is basically the day to day work grind.

Tarot card positions. When you are reading tarot you often use a spread, i.e. Celtic Cross. Basically a spread means that you put the card in a certain position and that place will also help to define its meaning.
The Empress: - She is surrounded by nature and feminine symbols. - She appears large in the image, and seated/relaxed but also attentive. - she represents creativity, intuition, love (unconditional love), and motherhood. - Ultimate mother figure in the tarot, with the Queen of pentacles as a close second - phase of life where things are being created around you. Possibly even that you are pregnant. - Locus Amenos
Symbol of fertility, and there are many fertility goddesses, such as: Gaia, Inanna, Astarte, Cybele, Isis, and of course Demeter.
Demeter (Roman Ceres): - goddess of grain, fertility and motherhood. Patroness of farming. - daughter of Kronos and Rhea, elder sister and the fourth wife of Zeus represented as a mature and dignified woman, holding a cornucopia. - Homeric Hymn to Demeter (the earliest myth of Demeter and Persephone).

Today’s episode we focus on the High Priestess and Hekate. The High Priestess is the second card in the Major Arcana, and it is the first highly gendered card.
We also discuss gender fluidity in tarot, life, and history. Akhenaten is one Egyptian Pharaoh who was represented as having both female and male characteristics.
Spiritual Energy vs. Kinetic Energy. All people have male and female energy.
High Priestess: - symbolically feminine, the power of yin energy light and dark on both sides of the card, and the high priestess is in the middle of the card balancing the two - means different things for different people, because of the mystery surrounding her. - Things are happening but its not the time to act; action has already taken place and now she is patient and letting things play out
Hekate (Hecate): - goddess of magic, patroness of witches, crossroad and the underworld, the dark side of the moon, and poisoners - she is in a lot of myths, such as the Homeric Hymn to Demeter - in art she is shown with three heads or bodies, holding one or two torches
This episode is also a little quiet (growing pains!) but that will be fixed for the next one.
