Cursed Child Spoilers again! My computer has been glitching, so I don't think my attempted previous upload actually worked, so I'm trying it out again. This was my big OGM when I realized the connection between two major characters. What do y'all think?

I think that in this moment of Snape’s extreme vulnerability, Dumbledore is moved to tears because he sees just how much pain Snape has been in. Snape’s singular devotion to Lily is tragic because he valued her so much more than himself. I think that like most bullies, Snape lived with a powerful mixture of insecurity and self-loathing. I’m not excusing his behavior, but merely trying to empathize. Snape’s father beat him, and Snape may have coped with that mistreatment like many people do, by telling himself that he deserved it. Then, when Snape met Lily, he would have seen in her all of the human dignity and value that he believed was missing from himself. As a Hogwarts student, Snape tried to puff himself up as the intelligent, ambitious, special Half Blood Prince, to counteract his deep insecurity about himself, but in their fifth year, Lily’s rejection of Snape would have confirmed Snape's deep fear that Lily was too good for someone as fundamentally unworthy as him. With all of this in mind, it’s hard to imagine the depth of pain that Snape must have felt once he started to blame himself for Lily’s death. At that point, I think Snape would have committed suicide without Dumbledore giving him a reason to go on. Snape felt that the only use of his life was to continue the mission that Lily died for - keeping Harry safe and defeating Voldemort. Snape hated living with himself, and he took it out on everyone else. And in this moment when Snape casts a doe patronus, it shows that even after all this time, Snape still hasn’t found a way to forgive himself, love himself, and move on. I was just as touched as Dumbledore when I read this, and yet I still dislike a lot of Snape’s actions. That I can simultaneously feel such empathy and such dislike for the same character is a masterstroke on JK Rowling’s part, and a powerful lesson about humanity.

Was it that he found a father figure within Voldemort? And, finally, was Snape as close to a 'friend' as Voldemort could have? I'd absolutely love to know your thoughts!

Is Snape just distancing himself from his abusive father, or does he accept the fact that he's not a pureblood even after he calls Lily a Mudblood?
Snape creates a number of spells as the Half Blood Prince, but we also see James use them too, especially the Levicorpus spell. How do you think James knows that spell? Do you think he saw Snape use it once and decided to copy it, if so, who did snape use it on? Or maybe James stole his potions book, as a prank, and got some spells from there?
Could disaster have been avoided by trying to summon the locket instead of the Horcrux?

I think there is a striking similarity between Harry's stand off with Scrimgeour at the end of Chp16 HPB and that between Lady Catherine de Bourgh and Elizabeth Bennet in Chp 56 of Pride & Prejudice. Anyone else see that? I know JKR is a big fan of that marvellous book, too. xAlnwickist
Some early-20th century fiction that the discussion reminded me of, and how orphanages at the time might explain some of Tom Riddle's emotional/social lack-of-development.
Two books I re-read after being reminded of them while listening to the discussion of the Muggle Orphanage Tom Riddle grew up in - Dear Daddy-Long-Legs and Dear Enemy, both by Jean Webster, published before 1920, interesting description of the grimness of orphan life.
A quick thought about the possible link between the defensive pamphlets and its ties to Death Eaters within the ministry.

Why I believe the Slytherin black and white portrayal in the books could be Jo's way of making a metaphor of bigotry in our world, specifically political and religious bigotry. Of course we all wish the Slytherin's could be humanized a bit more but if this is the reason they are not, I will take it.

My thoughts on why the Marauder's Map doesn't differentiate between the two Barty Crouches and other limitations in how the map renders names.
What happens when you die under the appearance of another (due to the affects of polyjuice potion). Do you stay in that form forever, or would you change back to your own appearance after the hour was up?
How does Dumbledore figure out the imposter is little crouch before the big reveal? He sends Snape to get winky before the appearance change happens, showing foresite, but little crouch is supposed to have been dead for years. How did he figure it out?
Inspired by your "How many memories can one pensieve hold?" It's a shame I can't sing though.

I think that there probably is a little bit of alcohol in butter beer. I draw a comparison to "non-alcoholic" beer.
Somehow this message descends from a legitimate, intelligible point into Scooby Doo and Jenga analogies.
This kept bugging me throughout the chapter as I felt that this could have gone very badly for Crouch Jr. I think it's entirely plausible that Dumbledore would have asked Snape about seeing Mad Eye and therefore expose Mad Eye to be lying. Was Crouch's excuse good enough or not?
Simple question that I was asking myself while reading GoF 27 - Why does Sirius not recognize Harry's description of the Dark Mark tattoos?

I believe Parvati Patil was unfairly criticized on episode 53. She had valid concerns about Hagrid as a professor, she defends Trelawney for the same reason Harry & Ron defend Hagrid, and she is not a weak character.

Just my idea on why Harry can fend off the Imperius Curse so quickly. Didn't mean to say Harry is a bad wizard, he's just no Hermione! He's still a great wizard in his own way with or without the horcrux.
