It’s seemed like forever, but you can finally get on Interstate 295 from Interstate 95 near Hope Mills, at least partially.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation removed the barricades at the Camden Road interchange near Exit 38 of I-95 in Robeson County. The catch – for now – is that only the interchanges for I-95 South and I-295 South are open.
“Today marks another milestone toward the completion of the Fayetteville Outer Loop,” Grady Hunt, a member of the N.C. Board of Transportation who lives in Robeson County, said in a news release. “This is a critical corridor for our region of the state, for Fort Liberty and for continued economic growth and better highway access.”
You can now get on I-295 South at Camden Road, and go to I-95 South at Exit 38. And you can also now get off I-95 South at Exit 38, to head toward Camden Road. The Northbound versions will open next summer, when the widening of I-95 is completed between mile markers 37 and 41.
The last segment of I-295 is expected to open in the Spring of 2026, which will complete the I-295 Outer Loop at 39 miles.

North American Entertainment is bringing the show here, with performances from some of the elite blues musicians in the country.

Born and raised in Monroe, North Carolina, Calvin Richardson is the fifth of nine children and the son of a Gospel singer. His life as a performer goes back to childhood: as a kid, Calvin’s mother led a Gospel act called The Willing Wonders and Calvin was the group’s youngest member. His first solo album, Country Boy, was released in 1999 by Universal Records and featured the singles “True Love” (featuring Chico DeBarge) and “I’ll Take Her” (featuring K-Ci Hailey). After being dropped by Universal, Calvin eventually rebounded and landed another record deal, this time with Hollywood Records. In September 2003, he released his second album, 2:35 PM. The album, which was named after the time that his son Souljah was born, featured the Grammy-nominated hit “More Than a Woman,” featuring Angie Stone. Wardell “Pokey Bear” Brown was born on February 2, 1970 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is known for his soulful sound of music in the Blues/Southern Soul genre; however, he did not start out that way. Pokey Bear began his career as a rap music artist, but after doing it for a while decided to try other styles. His venture off into other styles of music would lead him to be the soulful singer that he is today. He was first recognized in music for his first two projects produced by Beat Flippa. Particularly his songs entitled “They Call me Pokey” and “Side Piece,” The song “Side Piece” happened as a result of a hook that was written by Heavy in which he asked Pokey to write lyrics to. Jawonn Smith, better known by his stage name J-Wonn, is a soul singer that hails from Jackson, MS and has built a name for himself following the release of his hit single “I Got This Record”. His love of Blues came from growing up around his mother and grandmother, who would often sing around the house. At the age of 13, J-Wonn began writing music of his own and went on to write for many Blues and Soul singers. Everyone has heard of the scandal, but few remember the details. And a new documentary coming to Paramount+ aims to tell the tragic story of Milli Vanilli.
Not only did this tragic story take a life, it also opened the door to so many questions about the music industry. The art form known as music has terrible attributes attached to its success, meanwhile, artists such as Milli Vanilli were totally setup from the beginning leading to the main question. Is music evil or good?
In case you DON’T know, here’s the quick version of the Milli Vanilli story:
Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan were recruited by producer Frank Farian to be a hip new duo for him in Germany. They heard a demo of the song “Girl You Know It’s True,” and they said they could sing it.
But Farian didn’t like how the group sounded in the studio, and had it re-cut by several others, including Charles Shaw, John Davis and Brad Howell. The group was already booked to do shows, so Rob and Fab hit the road as Milli Vanilli, and just lip-synced to tracks of the studio cuts of the songs.
A string of hits followed, and the duo won the Best New Artist award at the Grammy’s in 1990.
Not long after that, the secret started to become clear, as technical problems on live performances made it clear the lip-syncing was happening.
The public became aware of the scam, and one of the original singers also admitted that it had happened. It led to Farian firing the duo, and the world turning against Rob and Fab.
We won’t spoil the rest of the story, so you can watch the documentary on October 24 on Paramount+.

R&B and soul legend Maxwell is bringing his “NIGHT: The Trilogy Show” tour to the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville this October.
The Crown Complex announced the show in a press release Monday, saying that the tour will come to the Coliseum on October 20, 2023. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 26 at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster or CrownComplexNC.com.
“Maxwell has artfully managed to transfix music lovers for more than two decades, releasing five studio albums, all in his own time and all duly anointed as classics,” the release said about the hitmaker. “The soul singer redefined soul music in April of 1996 when he released his critically acclaimed debut on Columbia, ‘Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite.’ It earned Grammy nominations, double platinum status and RIAA gold for the single, “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder).” The platinum albums ‘Embrya’ (1998) and ‘Now’ (2001) followed.”
The tour kicks off in June with shows in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, and includes a run at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas in August. After the Fayetteville show in October, Maxwell heads up to Virginia for shows in Petersburg and Norfolk.
“Maxwell’s upcoming ‘blacksummers’NIGHT’ will cap off a journey he first embarked upon over a decade ago as one of the most-anticipated R&B events of 2023,” the singer’s website says.
The new album is the third part of the NIGHT series, after BLACKsummers’night was released in 2009, blackSUMMERS’night was released in 2016, and the new one, which was announced back in late 2021. The album has been in the works for years, and has been highly anticipated.
With the tour announcement – including the Maxwell stop in Fayetteville in October – hopefully the new album will finally drop.

Day 2 of Dreamville Festival is in the books, and it was epic.
J. Cole and Drake capped off the night with a wild 39-song set, with special guests all over the place. And the day featured performances from Burna Boy, Summer Walker (with 6lack!), JID, GloRilla, Bas, Waka Flocka Flame, Mario, Ayra Starr, Baby Tate, Cozz, Jordan Ward and Reuben Vincent.

Day 1 of Dreamville Festival 2023 (see our complete guide here), was wild and crazy with the schedule, but the Day 2 artist performance schedule looks to be a little more stable.
Dreamville will have 14 artists performing on Sunday, with Reuben Vincent getting things started at 1 p.m., all the way up to J. Cole and Drake closing it out with a combined headliner set.
Keep in mind, as always this is subject to change. Music festivals get a little crazy sometimes, and things happen (remember yesterday???). So some of this may move a little.
Once again, Dorothea Dix Park will feature two stages with performances. BUT, there are no overlaps scheduled today, so you’ll never have to choose between seeing one artist or another. You’ll be able to catch everyone, as long as you’re willing to go back and forth across the park.

Dreamville Festival has grown really fast, so a lot of you are probably planning to go, but just in case we wanted to make sure you knew how to watch the event on live streaming.
Some 50,000 people are expected at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh each day of the festival. And most options to actually go are sold out.
Fortunately, there are some streaming options that will make it possible to check out most of the performances.
According to Dreamville, the event will be live streamed on Amazon Music on Twitch (click here) or on Prime Video with a subscription (click here).
Live streaming begins at 2 p.m. each day, so you might not catch the first couple of artists each day (check out the full schedule here), but you’ll get to see most of it.
