There are only three economic systems in the world: Capitalism, Socialism, and Islam, with economics being merely one facet of its larger world-view and philosophy of life. In this episode, we contend that both Capitalism and Socialism funnel wealth away from the people in an unhealthy manner that breeds dissatisfaction and injustice. Why do friendships break up? How do you resolve broken bonds? The team dives deeper onto the concept of friendship and why friendships are formed, how are they broken, why a "khalil", or a very close friend is rare and almost impossible in today's world.
CS Lewis on Friendship: Friendship is the love dismissed. “To the Ancients, Friendship seemed the happiest and most fully human of all loves,” says Lewis, “the crown of life and the school of virtue. The modern world, in comparison, ignores it.” Why? Perhaps we know it’s the most time consuming, the least celebrated, the one we could live without. Perhaps too, as Lewis says, “few value it because few experience it.” Romance lends itself to conception, affection enables us to have a sense of place and belonging, and charity provides a track to redemption. But friendship doesn’t provide the same level of productivity, if we want to state it in a consumer mindset. However, Lewis thinks friendship likely has closest resemblance to Heaven where we will be intertwined in our relationships. We develop a kinship over something in common and that longing for camaraderie makes friendship all the more wanted. “Friendship must be about something,” Lewis says, “even if it were only an enthusiasm for dominoes or white mice. Those who have nothing can share nothing; those who are going nowhere can have no fellow-travellers.” Think about it too. Friendships have begun faith movements, developed entire areas of thought, and contributed to many projects from art to business.

Ibn ‘Abbas narrated that the Prophet r used to recite the last ten verses of Aal ‘Imran followed by this du‘a before Fajr. (Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmidhi with various wordings)
There is happiness and then there is joy. Happiness comes and go, but joy, serenity, and wholeness can be be permanent and can increase forever. In contrast, happiness is one side of a pair, the other being sadness. It's qabd and bast (expansion and constrinction). Happiness has different locations too: the mind, the passions, the eyes, the body, and the heart. This episode touches on a number of very beneficial points.
Are some people just born with more confidence than others? Confidence is often confused with swagger and pride. In reality, it's something that is more concrete and can be built and developed one step at a time.

"Hadith is a means of going astray." What?? I remember the first time I hears that from my fiqh teacher and was shocked. What he meant was, reading uncontextualized hadiths and not knowing the explanation or the secondary meaning of terms will lead a person into such a pit of confusion, they may lose their iman completely. And how many times have we entered into a complete abyss of bewilderment from self-studying a hadith that seemed to contradict everything we ever knew. It's very commonplace.
And guess what. This is not just a modern phenomenon. It happened to early Muslims too. We're not alone in this:
Ibn Wahb was of the fourth generation. He said, “Were it not for Malik and Layth, I would have been destroyed. I used to believe that everything narrated about the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him should be acted upon” (Dhahabi).
Rather, any solitary hadith that has no context or explanation of its circumstances should be suspended and not acted upon, made law, or made an obligatory belief. This is why we need scholarship to corroborate evidence and qualify our application of hadith. That scholarship is called fiqh, and their called the Four Madhhabs.
The above statement "Al-hadithu madalla illa lil fuqaha" is from Ibn 'Uyayna. "Hadith is a means of going astray, except for the scholars."

"A half truth is a full lie." Likewise, a misunderstood truth is a full lie, or worse. Our umma is unique because of its preservation of the Prophet's sayings peace be upon him. But human beings speak very differently than they write. And so reading a clip of a statement with no context around it can easily lead to misunderstanding, confusion, and even going astray by developing a false image of the Prophet peace be upon him and of Islam. Here is one such popular hadith that raises eyebrows, but once you see its true meaning, it becomes obvious.
It's the hadith of women, riding beasts, and dogs breaking your prayer.
Just because an imam narrates a hadith in his book does not mean he judges by it in his fiqh. Here are three hadith books where this applies.

If there were two gods then you only have two possibilities, both of which negate omnipotence. 1 If their wills clash, then neither would be All-powerful and there would be chaos in the universe, whereas we witness order. 2 If their wills aligned and they agreed to peacefully divide everything, then they would each be redundant in the other's part of the universe, whereas the idea of God is that He is needed at all times. Now if someone says what if there is another peaceful universe far far away that operates by its own rules and its own god, we would reply that a cosmology can only be built on observations that are real, whereas this hypothetical is imagined.

The Principle of Identity - That everything has a precisely defined essence that makes it what it is.
The Principle of the Excluded Middle - If an assertion is composed of defined terms, then it will be either true or false, with no third option (no middle).
The Principle of Non-Contradiction - The mutual exclusive of a true statement must be false and vice-versa.

During the Crusades, there were three parties: the Syrian Sunnis, the Fatimid Shi'ites, and the Christian Crusaders. When the Crusaders went to conquer Fatimid Egypt, the Shi'ites called upon the Sunni Syrians for help. A simple hadith with a huge meaning. The hadith he begins with has to do with breaking the fast, but it extends to a much larger issue: identity. Today everyone is clamoring to identify themselves with something new, from sexuality to gender. But what is the real source of who we are, what our identity is?
Why did the Prophet ﷺ marry Aisha at such a young age? Ultimately, this question leads us to a greater, more foundational question. Namely, what happens when revelation tells us something that culture or intellect holds is wrong. In sum, reason vs revelation.
This is because Aisha's age was not a problem at all. Not to her. Not to her mother. Not to her father. Nor even to Muhammad's own enemies in Makka and beyond. It is only a problem for people post-Industrial Revolution, when marriage ages went up for both boys and girls.
Marriage and all that goes with it, is relative and subjective to time and place. The criticism of the Prophet's marriage to Aisha is an anachronistic argument. It applies the norms of one era to another era. It may also be an instance of CULTURAL IMPERIALISM, dominating a people physically & economically, then defining for them who they are, and what they ought to believe is right and wrong.
Lady Aisha, Allah be pleased with her, was a vibrant woman. In fact, she may have been the most vibrant of all the Prophet's ﷺ Companions. She taught scores of men and women and even was involved in political life. This is not a woman who reflects the mental or emotional baggage of an abused girl.
Those who ask why the Prophet ﷺ married Aisha at such a young age have to accept this evidence, because they have already, wittingly or not, accepted Aisha as a source, for it is her testimony---and only her testimony---that tells us her age at marriage to begin with.
For over a decade, this has been the adhān heard at NBIC, the New Brunswick Islamic Center. It is in the style of the call to prayer on the Prophet's time ﷺ. Namely, it was not long and melodious. It was minimal and to the point. As this one is. Enjoy.
