The Lord's Table exalts Jesus Christ as we celebrate and remember the price He paid to make fellowship with Him and with one another possible.
Two (of 6) examples Jesus gave to show how the Pharisees' external righteousness is inferior to the heart-righteousness of Jesus' kingdom followers.
The righteousness which allows us to enter heaven will surpass that of the Pharisees in at least 3 vital ways.
Salt is the quality of life to which Jesus' followers are called. Light is the quantity of exposure that life can/should have.
The 5th and 6th beatitudes are the first 2 radical rules of Jesus' kingdom focused on horizontal relationships with fellow man. 7 & 8 will be part 3.
The women who discovered the empty tomb experienced the same realities that we do "because He lives."
4 (of 8) attitudes necessary to be more righteous than scribes and Pharisees and which qualify you to enter God's kingdom.
Jesus' victory over the "lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the boastful pride of life" teaches us about the nature of temptation and how we can also win the victory.
Word by word encouragement for believers based on our eternal perspective gifted to us by our loving Father.
Continuing the "March thru Matthew" begun in December, we learn from John the Baptist ways that we can be faithful representatives of Jesus.
David used his sunset years to point Solomon and the country what would honor the Lord and make their lives successful before Him.
Instead of humbly seeking the Lord, David proudly forced his own costly solution - but finally he repented and God's grace abounded.
David is 65+ years old and looks back on God's grace and mercy in his life. Good lessons for all of us.
The last 2 (of 4) prophesies Matthew connected to Jesus' birth confirm to us that the Birthday Boy is our Savior, Messiah-King.

Ashcrafts have been faithfully serving in Spain for 36 years, mostly as Directors of Springs of Life Camp. WCBC is grateful and thankful to be a part of their support team.
The hurdles David overcame as he restored his throne are similar to the challenges that we face "along life's narrow way".
Absalom's rebellion had divided the nation. David took 5 steps to heal the nation; the same steps needed to mend any relationship - marriage, neighbors, children, or friends.
The death of Absalom is the culmination of David's painful reaping from his sin with Bathsheba and murder of Uriah her husband. Reaping painfully is the 10th and final principle he demonstrates in his greatest crisis.
Here we see 3 reasons to rejoice in God's plans; the 9th lesson David's example teaches us during his greatest crisis.
David's response to Absalom's rebellion shows us how to deal with crises in our own lives.
Contrasting 4 characteristics of man made false reconciliation with the perfect and complete reconciliation provided at the cross and celebrated at the Lord's Table.
Final 3 (of 7) characteristics of David's dysfunctional dynasty, which are the same for any family where sin gets a foothold.
4 (of 7) sad characteristics of David's dysfunctional family - prophesied by Nathan for David's adultery with Bathsheba and murder of her husband Uriah.
King David's gracious offer to Mephibosheth is one of the best illustrations of our King's grace to us.
II Samuel 7 has been called, "the charter that plots the future of kingship for Israel." 3 amazing promises were made by God to David, which he accepted. As believers we are included in those "exceeding great and precious promises."
David unifies the nation spiritually by bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. First he does it wrong, then he learns to do it right.
II Sam.3-10 record political, spiritual, and military triumphs which made David stronger. Here are the first 3.
David, Abner, and Asahel show us 3 very different ways to make decisions. Hint: only one is God's way!
Saul's suicide is not what kept him out of heaven. These final two negative character traits of this wicked king also motivate us positively to do the exact opposite.
Saul's life was a train wreck because he had no-heart for God. The horrific consequences of his sinful and foolish choices motivate us to cultivate our heart for God and seek His enabling to "walk in newness of life."
Examining Abigail's message and manner with David shows us 3 positive character qualities the Lord desires in all of His followers.
I Sam.26 generally repeats the Engedi Cave (I Sam24) episode, but the differences show lessons the Lord taught David and he wants us to learn also.
Abigail's peacemaking made her good. David's anger made him bad. Nabal's foolishness made him ugly. Lessons for us all.
David's encounter with Saul in the Cave of Engedi teaches us 3 important lessons for victory over vengeance.
4 ways God tempered David to become king are similar to how he prunes and disciplines us to make us useful vessels.
Palm Sunday was part of God's prophetic plan to identify Jesus Christ as Messiah, Savior, and King. It is part of why we do NOT have "Blue Fairy faith".
Contrasting Saul's no-heart hatred with David's whole-heart love, care, and service gives us a good pattern for making right choices.
David learned 4 ways that God can be trusted - the same ways God is teaching each of us to trust Him.
As Michal helps David escape, David writes a song (Ps.59) expressing his trust in God to deliver him and judge his adversaries. David teaches us 7 ways to "be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might." (Eph.6:10)
David accepted that "EVERY joy or trial falleth from above" and he saw Goliath as a challenge to be overcome by faith.
As Saul showed us what "no-heart" for God is, David shows us what "whole-heart" for God looks like. Here are the first 3 ways.
The last two (of 12) ugly characteristics of "no-heart" Saul prepare our hearts for the Lord's Table.
Jesus did not "just stop by" when He "tented/tabernacled" on earth. See how the Apostles heard, saw, studied, and touched the Son of God.
Jesus is 100% God AND 100% Man, plus several Biblical reasons why Jesus had to be born a human.
Jesus is "the Word" - the physical manifestation of the invisible God. He is Eternal, God, Creator, and Light.
Saul's attitudes, words, and actions revealed his heart was filled with selfish, reckless, conflicted, destruction. When God rules our hearts, we will know selfless, purposeful, and peaceful lives.
For having such a faithless dad, Jonathan's faith was like William Carey's, "Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God." His faith is displayed 5 ways which challenge us to lives of faith.
Samuel gave 4 vital principles to Israel as he handed civil authority over the Saul. They are equally vital for us today.
The final 3 (of 9) sovereignly orchestrated events or circumstances by which God revealed to Samuel, Saul, and the Israelites that Saul was to be their first king.
The 2nd three (of 9) "God things" used to convince Samuel, Saul, and the Israelites who their new king would be. May we all be sensitive to "God things" in our own lives.
The final 2 (of 4) consequences of rejecting Christ as King and enthroning self as king of your life.
The first 2 (of 4) warnings given by Samuel when Israel demanded a king encourage us to give Jesus Christ His rightful place as King of our daily lives.
4 character qualities demonstrated by Samuel in his youth which resulted in his confirmation as Israel's national spokesman for (prophet of) God.
I Samuel 1-7 is "Eli down, Samuel up" the rest of the Book is "Saul down, David up" - in both cases the difference is making God, His Word, and His will the #1 priority.
The reasons for Hannah's gracious behavior in Chapter 1 is because her heart was filled with God's priorities, Person, and purposes.
In Paul's parting words he presents the Galatians and us (one last time!) 3 "either/or" decisions related to true, Biblical salvation - by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
Four ways the Judaizers (and all false-teaching cults today!) demonstrate they do NOT glorify Jesus Christ. In Pt.2 (vss.14-16) we'll see the contrast in the Apostle Paul; who boasted and gloried in the cross.

Greater is He that is in me - #255
Greater is He that is in me (clap, clap)
Greater is He that is in me (clap, clap)
Greater is He that is in me
than He that is in the world.
Satan’s like a roaring lion roaming to and fro’
Seeing whom he may devour, the Bible tells us so
Many souls have been his prey
to fall in some weak hour
But God has promised us today
His overcoming power. (chorus)
On the day of Pentecost a rushing, mighty wind
Blew into the upper room and baptized all of them
With a power greater than any earthly foe
And I’m so glad I’ve got it, too;
I’m gonna’ let the whole world know. (chorus)
The Comforter has come! - #257
1 Oh, spread the tidings ’round; wherever man is found, Wherever human hearts and human woes abound; Let ev'ry Christian tongue proclaim the joyful sound: The Comforter has come!
Refrain:
The Comforter has come! The Comforter has come!
The Holy Ghost from heav’n, the Father’s promise giv’n!
Oh, spread the tidings ’round, wherever man is found:
The Comforter has come!
2 Lo, the great King of kings, with healing in His wings,
To ev'ry captive soul a full deliv'rance brings;
And thru the vacant cells the song of triumph rings:
The Comforter has come! [Refrain]
3 Oh, boundless love divine! How shall this tongue of mine
To wond’ring mortals tell the matchless grace divine -
That I, a child of hell, should in His image shine!
The Comforter has come! [Refrain]
Jesus calls us - #375
1 Jesus calls us o'er the tumult
of our life's wild, restless sea;
day by day his sweet voice soundeth,
saying "Christian, follow me."
2 Jesus calls us from the worship
of the vain world's golden store,
from each idol that would keep us,
saying "Christian, love me more."
3 In our joys and in our sorrows,
days of toil and hours of ease,
still he calls, in cares and pleasures,
"Christian, love me more than these."
4 Jesus calls us; by thy mercies,
Savior, may we hear thy call,
give our hearts to thine obedience,
serve and love Thee best of all.
Thank You Lord – by Dan Burgess
Thank You Lord For the trials that come my way
In that way I can grow each day
As I let You lead
And thank You Lord
For the patience those trials bring
In that process of growing
I can learn to care
But it goes against the way I am
To put my human nature down
And let the Spirit
Take control of all I do
For when those trials come
My human nature shouts the thing to do
And God's soft prompting
Can be easily ignored
I thank You Lord
With each trial I feel inside
That You're there to help
Lead and guide me away from wrong
For You promised Lord
That with every testing
That Your way of
Escaping is easier to bear
Thank You Lord
For the victory that growing brings
In surrender of everything
Life is so worthwhile
And I thank You Lord
That when everything's put in place
Out in front I can see Your face
And it's there You belong
Songs of Gentleness – 5-10-20
Gentle Shepherd
Gentle Shepherd, come and lead us,
For we need You to help us find our way.
Gentle Shepherd, come and feed us,
For we need Your strength from day to day.
There’s no other we can turn to
Who can help us face another day;
Gentle Shepherd, come and lead us,
For we need You to help us find our way.
Rescue the perishing
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o’er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
Tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save.
Refrain:
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.
Though they are slighting Him,
still He is waiting,
Waiting the penitent child to receive;
Plead with them earnestly,
plead with them gently;
He will forgive if they only believe. Refrain:
Down in the human heart,
crushed by the tempter,
Feelings lie buried that grace can restore;
Touched by a loving heart,
wakened by kindness,
Chords that were broken
will vibrate once more. Refrain:
Rescue the perishing, duty demands it;
Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide;
Back to the narrow way patiently win them;
Tell the poor wand’rer a Savior has died.
Refrain:
I am His, and He is mine
Loved with everlasting love,
Led by grace that love to know;
Gracious Spirit from above,
Thou hast taught me it is so!
Oh this full and perfect peace!
Oh this transport all divine!
In love which cannot cease,
I am His, and He is mine;
In a love which cannot cease,
I am His, and He is mine.
Heav’n above is softer blue,
Earth around is sweeter green;
Something lives in every hue
Christless eyes have never seen;
Birds with gladder songs o’erflow,
Flow’rs with deeper beauties shine,
Since I know, as now I know,
I am His, and He is mine;
Since I know, as now I know,
I am His, and He is mine.
Things that once were wild alarms
Cannot now disturb my rest,
Closed in everlasting arms,
Pillowed on His loving breast;
Oh, to lie forever here,
Doubt and care and self resign,
While He whispers in my ear
I am His, and He is mine;
While He whispers in my ear
I am His, and He is mine.
His forever, only His;
Who the Lord and me shall part?
Ah, with what a rest of bliss
Christ can fill the loving heart!
Heav’n and earth may fade and flee,
Firstborn light in gloom decline,
But while God and I shall be,
I am His, and He is mine;
But while God and I shall be,
I am His, and He is mine.

CCLI Song # 18723
He Giveth More Grace
He giveth more grace
When the burden grows greater
He sendeth more strength
When the labors increase
To added affliction He addeth His mercy
To multiplied trials His multiplied peace
Chorus: His love has no limit
His grace has no measure
His power has no boundary known unto man
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth and giveth and giveth again
Our store of endurance
When our strength has failed
'Ere the day is half done
When we reach the end
Of our hoarded resources
The Father's full giving has only begun (chorus)
A graspin' for answers
When life deals us cards
That we'd rather not play
We can cling to the promise
Of our faithful Savior
Who will give us the grace
To finish the day (chorus)
CCLI Song # 4199294

It Will Be Worth It All
Our trials hard to bear.
We´re tempted to complain,
to murmur and despair.
But Christ will soon appear
to catch his bride away!
All tears forever over
in God’s eternal day!
CHORUS:
It will be worth it all, when we see Jesus!
Life’s trials will seem so small
when we see Christ.
One glimpse of his dear face,
all sorrow will erase.
So, bravely run the race, till we see Christ.
with not a ray of light;
We’re tossed and driven on,
no human help in sight.
But there is One in heaven,
Who knows our deepest care;
Let Jesus solve your problems,
just go to him in prayer. CHORUS:
all storms forever past;
We’ll cross the great divide
to Glory, safe at last!
We’ll share the joys of heaven:
a harp, a home, a crown;
The tempter will be banished,
We’ll lay our burdens down. CHORUS:
Three Bible truths about kindness.

Everyone needs forgiveness
A kindness of a Savior
The hope of nations
Refrain: Savior
He can move the mountains
My God is Mighty to save
He is Mighty to save
Forever, Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave

Everything I believe in
Now I surrender Refrain:

We're singing for the glory of the risen King...Jesus

Hearing His voice in every line,
Making each faithful saying mine. Refrain:

Thy Lovingkindness #69
Thy loving kindness
Is better than life

Is better than life
My lips shall praise Thee
Thus will I bless Thee
I will lift up my hands unto Thy name.

Unto Thy name
My lips shall praise Thee
Thus will I bless Thee
I will lift up my hands unto Thy name.
Three Biblical reasons for celebrating the empty tomb.
Songs of Resurrection 4-12-20
Christ Arose #216
1 Low in the grave He lay, Jesus my Savior,
waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord!
Refrain: Up from the grave he arose;
with a mighty triumph o'er his foes;
he arose a victor from the dark domain,
and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!
2 Vainly they watch His bed, Jesus my Savior,
vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord! [Refrain]
3 Death cannot keep its prey, Jesus my Savior;
he tore the bars away, Jesus my Lord! [Refrain]
Because He Lives #213
God sent His son, they called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal, and forgive.
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.
Refrain: Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, All fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives.
But greater still the calm assurance,
This child can face uncertain days
because He lives. [Refrain]
And then one day I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain.
And then as death gives way to victory,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives.
Refrain
He Lives #220
I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today
I know that He is living, whatever men may say
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer
And just the time I need Him He's always near
[Refrain] He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives),
Christ Jesus lives today
He walks with me and talks with me
Along life's narrow way
He lives (He lives), He lives (He lives),
Salvation to impart
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart
In all the world around me I see His loving care
And though my heart grows weary
I never will despair. I know that He is leading,
through all the stormy blast
The day of His appearing will come at last
[refrain]
Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian
Lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ, the King
The Hope of all who seek Him,
the Help of all who find
None other is so loving, so good and kind
[refrain]

Grace Alone
Ev'ry promise we can make
Ev'ry prayer and step of faith
Ev'ry diff'rence we will make
Is only by His grace
Ev'ry mountain we will climb
Ev'ry ray of hope we shine
Ev'ry blessing left behind
Is only by His grace
(chorus) Grace alone
which God supplies
Strength unknown
He will provide
Christ in us
our Cornerstone
We will go forth
in grace alone
Ev'ry soul we long to reach
Ev'ry heart we hope to teach
Ev'rywhere we share His peace
Is only by His grace
Ev'ry loving word we say
Ev'ry tear we wipe away
Ev'ry sorrow turned to praise
Is only by His grace (chorus)
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms #354
What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
(Refrain) Leaning, leaning,
Safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the everlasting arms. (refrain)
What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the everlasting arms?
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the everlasting arms. (refrain)
More like the Master
More like the Master I would ever be,
More of His meekness, more humility;
More zeal to labor, more courage to be true,
More consecration for work He bids me do.
Refrain:
Take Thou my heart, I would be Thine alone;
Take Thou my heart, and make it all Thine own;
Purge me from sin, O Lord, I now implore,
Wash me and keep me Thine forevermore.
More like the Master is my daily prayer;
More strength to carry crosses I must bear;
More earnest effort to bring His kingdom in;
More of His Spirit, the wanderer to win.
More like the Master I would live and grow;
More of His love to others I would show;
More self-denial, like His in Galilee,
More like the Master I long to ever be.
Songs of Peace – 3-29-20
Perfect Peace
Quiet light of the morning skies;
perfect peace of God.
Enter the midst of our busy lives;
perfect peace of God.
Gentle presence that stills our fears;
perfect peace of God.
Heart of compassion that dries our tears;
perfect peace of God
Chorus:
Perfect peace of God
Guarding our hearts and minds
Brings to our lives, rest for our souls
Perfect peace, make us Your home
Perfect peace of God
Peace our minds cannot comprehend
Perfect peace of God
Flood the rooms of our hearts again
Perfect peace of God (Chorus)
Wonderful Peace #500
1 Far away in the depths of my spirit tonight
Rolls a melody sweeter than psalm;
In celestial-like strains it unceasingly falls
O’er my soul like an infinite calm.
Refrain:
Peace, peace! wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above,
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray,
In fathomless billows of love.
2 What a treasure I have in this wonderful peace
Buried deep in the heart of my soul,
So secure that no power can mine it away
While the years of eternity roll. [Refrain]
3 I am resting tonight in this wonderful peace,
Resting sweetly in Jesus’ control,
For I’m kept from all danger by night and by day,
And His glory is flooding my soul. [Refrain]
4 And me thinks when I rise to that city of peace
Where the Author of peace I shall see,
That one strain of the song which the ransomed will
sing In that heavenly kingdom shall be: [Refrain]
5 Ah! soul, are you here without comfort and rest,
Marching down the rough pathway of time?
Make Jesus your friend ere the shadows grow dark
O accept this sweet peace so sublime! [Refrain]
It is well with my soul #493
1 When peace like a river attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
"It is well, it is well with my soul."
Refrain:
It is well with my soul;
it is well, it is well with my soul.
2 Though Satan should buffet, though trials should
come, let this blest assurance control:
that Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
and has shed his own blood for my soul. Refrain
3 My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
my sin, not in part, but the whole,
is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more;
praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! Refrain
4 O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be
sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
the trump shall resound and the Lord shall
descend; even so, it is well with my soul. Refrain
Like a river glorious #494
1 Like a river glorious is God’s perfect peace,
Over all victorious, in its bright increase;
Perfect, yet it floweth fuller every day,
Perfect, yet it groweth deeper all the way.
Refrain:
Stayed upon Jehovah, hearts are fully blest
Finding, as He promised, perfect peace and rest.
2 Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand,
Never foe can follow, never traitor stand;
Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care,
Not a blast of hurry touch the spirit there.
3 Every joy or trial falleth from above,
Traced upon our dial by the Sun of Love;
We may trust Him fully, all for us to do;
They who trust Him wholly find Him wholly true.
Special abbreviated, "social distancing", worship service with music, announcements and a brief Bible message about believers' Holy Spirit joy in spite of the Corona Virus.
God's love for us, and our love for Him is the foundation for our love and service for one another and the lost.
Five (of 15) "woks of the flesh" which oppose God's Spirit and would love to control our lives.
Instead of an "opportunity for the flesh" our grace/faith relationship with the Lord frees us to obey Him as His servants, and to love one another sacrificially.
Paul gives 4 destructive characteristics of "troublers" which motivated him, and SHOULD motivate us, to trash those who diminish Christ and His infinite work on the cross making a relationship possible.
In Galatians 5 - 6 Paul describes 7 motivations to live the Christian life and "stand firm in the freedom" He purchased for us at the cross. Rejecting religion is the first step - here are 4 reasons why.
Paul's 7th and final argument uses an Old Testament example which "contains an allegory" contrasting Ishmael with Isaac to show how faith/sonship is superior to law/slavery for salvation.
Paul's 6th argument that salvation is by faith alone, not law keeping, is based on three profound aspects of his personal relationship with the Galatians as their spiritual father.
The final 4 (of 7) ways that believers are esteemed when we become sons of God through faith in Christ. When looking at "adoption" we watched the video of George Grimwade becoming George Musto - which you can watch at https://youtu.be/0WOzIQYS2nw
The Judaizers preached a perverted, false "gospel" by making the Gentile Galatians feel they must get circumcised, eat kosher, and celebrate Jewish feasts in order to "earn" a right relationship with God. Here Paul gives 3 (of 7) benefits of becoming sons - by grace alone through FAITH alone in Christ alone. THAT is the true gospel!
The Judaizers misused and abused their application of the law - the same as all man-made religions, cults, and works-righteousness systems do today. As Paul says here once again; the law was never given as a means to build one's own righteousness before God. If so, then Christ died needlessly (Gal.2:6). As Paul also wrote in Rom.10:4, "Christ is the end of the law to those who believe."

“Sola Gratia” - Grace Alone Rom.3:21-24 10-22-17
Introduction: “When it comes to salvation - God helps those who help themselves.” “Night and day I pondered until I saw the connection between the justice of God and the statement that “the just shall live by his faith.” Then I grasped that the justice of God is that righteousness by which through grace and sincere mercy God justifies us through faith. [we’ll see “sola fide” next week!] Thereupon I felt myself to be reborn and to have gone through open doors into Paradise. The whole of Scripture took on a new meaning. Whereas before “the justice of God” had filled me with hate, now it became inexpressibly sweet in greater love. This passage of Paul became to me a gate to heaven.”
By grace alone we are _______________________. Grace = God’s unmerited favor, giving us a gift we don’t deserve. Rom.6:23, Col.2:13-14, Rom.3:21-24
By grace alone we are ___________________ heaven. “But for the grace of God nobody could get in here!”
By grace alone we are ___________________ from religion. “My part was to run away from God as fast as I could. I kept running until he finally caught me.” Rom.5:20
Conclusion: The truth of “grace alone” destroys all human self-confidence, frees us from having to win God’s favor, frees us to serve God without fear, and takes the pressure off being His Ambassador.
