SHIFT CHANGE Podcast: Recent Episodes

Jason Blount

As a personal strategic coach, I'm taking all my experience of 25 years as a Firefighter Paramedic, caring for those going through some of the worst days of their lives, and combining it with how I went through my own personal crisis. Taking the lessons learned, this podcast is to help those suffering, to shorten their own journey through a crisis. To simply say that even the smallest of shifts can create changes that are long-lasting. Changing the very trajectory of our lives!

In this week’s episode, Coach J points out, when dealing with a difficult time in your life you can find wisdom, encouragement, and hope from looking at the past.

Let’s face it, sometimes we have a real memory problem. In the heat of the battle, we can forget that we’ve been in tight spots before and the lessons learned going through them. While we don’t want to revisit the past with regret, we can look to it to be our teachers!

If this sounds like you, I get it and I’d like to invite you to reach out to me and tell me how I can support you. As a Coach, I can provide individual support to help you walk through this.

Is so easy to find blame in others, isn’t it?  Why is it so hard sometimes to admit that it may be our fault and take responsibility for it?

In this week's episode Coach J askes that very question?

In this BONUS episode, I sit down at a round table with my brothers in arms. We’ve all gone through divorces and get together once a week to share our insights and lessons learned from our own failures and successes.  Taking responsibility can mean different things to us as we go through a divorce and the fallout in the years following. Taking responsibility for the right things can be very empowering and build our confidence as we navigate this difficult topic. We call our group Ex-Men roundtable and I hope to share more of these in the future!

If you are going through a divorce and I can help support then I want to invite you to contact me. As a Coach, I can provide individual support to help you walk through this.

Have you found yourself questioning who you really are? What are your values, beliefs, and interests are, and if they are serving you?

In this week's episode Coach J askes that very question!

We get our identities from so many things as we grow through this life from our families, relationships, and associations. They help us form our view of the world around us, but some may not serve us and in fact, can be toxic in how we see ourselves and others.

What if part of our identity was high jacked? What if it was given to us to keep a secret or keep us in a mold that serves someone else’s needs and how it affects our perceptions, judgments, and actions?

We are going to take a look at that and what steps we can take to create more awareness of how those things play out in our lives and what actions we can take to something that better serves us!

If this resonates with you, and you are looking for support then I want to invite you to contact me. As a Coach, I can provide individual support to help you walk through this.

In this week's episode Coach J opens up about what he experienced in the loss of his own identity while going through a life crisis and the SHIFTS he discovered on the other side.

Our identity. We form our identity from the values and beliefs we carry. Our status in our culture, occupation, finances, role in the family, personal traits, habits, hobbies, and many other things go to gather to create our identities. It is who we are and are introduced to those around us. It gives us status, credibility, confidence, maybe influence, and authority.

It is the words following, “I AM”!

So, what is at the core of all that goes into our identities? What part of our identities takes center stage, or do they all hold equal value? Who are we when we feel we lose a part or all of that Identity?

If this sounds like something you have experienced, and you are looking for support then I encourage you to reach out to me. As a Coach, I can provide individual support to help you shorten your journey through a difficult time. I assure you; you are not alone!

Taking a lesson out of my time in the Fire Department on this one. It is so important to know who actually has your back in good times and bad! To have some you have a rapport with and, is willing to speak the truth rather than offer flattery!

Do you people in your life that you;

  • Feel a real connection to
  • Accept you as you are
  • Will be honest with you even it's uncomfortable.

Are you safe for others?

As I am sitting in a socially distanced auditorium getting ready for my 18 yr old daughter's play to begin I thought about her journey and resolve to take action even if it is imperfect action! She has been in 20 plays so far. It wasn't always easy and over the years I have encouraged her to get up, learn the lesson and keep going after what she wants! At the same time, I admit, there are things in life, stages if you will, that I am scared to step out on and have to remind myself of the same things I told my kids!

  • What is holding you and me back from taking the "imperfect action" we need to get what we want in life?
  • So many of us hold ourselves back by our own self-judgements and fears of rejection in one way or another.
  • What if we just looked at it as feedback for us to learn from and grow?

These may be things that, once you tackle, allow you to move the needle. Things that allow you to see new opportunities, things you can automate, things that give you more confidence in other areas of your business or personal life, and relationships.
