The home to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea has been conducting a lottery to determine which annual pass holders may visit the park on any given day, due to overwhelming demand while the parks' capacities are limited. The resort will stop conducting the lottery for assignments after December 2020 and will begin issuing refunds for pro-rated annual pass holders. The resort also will not extend annual passes for the period that the parks were closed, as it had offered during the pandemic shutdown.
Tokyo Disney said that it will provide an update on the future of its annual pass program by the end of March 2021.
Some Walt Disney World street performers and other park entertainers were among an undisclosed number of Disney employees who found out Tuesday night they were being laid off.
Some of the affected workers took social media to share that their time with the company had come to an end. Among those being let go is part of the acting troupe at Disney's Hollywood Studios known as the Citizens of Hollywood.

When Walt Disney World Resort first reopened, Disney, announced that nighttime spectaculars would not be available for Guests. That means that for the time being — since the theme parks reopened in mid-July — Guests haven’t been able to see Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom or Fantasmic! at Hollywood Studios, amid other nighttime shows.
But when will Fantasmic! be up and running again? We aren’t so sure, but it appears that the show won’t be operating anytime soon. The latest aerial images from @bioreconstruct show that the Fantasmic! the lagoon is still drained.

Joseph "Joe" Rohde is a veteran executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, the division of The Walt Disney Company that designs and builds Disney's theme parks and resort hotels. Rohde's formal title is Executive Designer and Vice President, Creative.
He was born in Sacramento, California, and raised in Hawaii. He graduated from Chaminade College Preparatory, Canoga Park, Calif., in 1973, where he starred in student dramatic productions and was Class Salutatorian. Rohde received a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Occidental College in Los Angeles.
Rohde's trademark is a large collection of earrings he wears in his left ear, all of which are souvenirs from decades of travel to remote corners of the world. This tradition began when he stuck his 5-year anniversary pin into his ear.

Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast[1] is a trackless dark ride at Tokyo Disneyland based on Beauty and the Beast.
It was originally scheduled to open on April 15, 2020,[2] but the opening was postponed indefinitely following the closure of the park due to the coronavirus pandemic. In mid-September 2020, the attraction was confirmed to be opening on September 28, 2020.[3] The ride soft-opened a week earlier on September 21, 2020[4] along with The Happy Ride with Baymax.

The Dip, Also Known As "Toon Acid", is a greenish, ghastly chemical seen in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. It's Judge Doom's preferred method of Toon execution. According to Lieutenant Santino, it's a mixture of turpentine, acetone, and benzene, which all of them are paint-thinners. Combined in the real world, they make up the solution hand animators used to use to remove ink from animation cells. This could be considered an inside joke, as your average audience member would not know what these ingredients made up. While relatively harmless to humans, any toon that comes in contact with it will melt instantly and is apparently the only surefire way to kill a toon (although Eddie Valiant gets most of The Toon Patrol members to laugh themselves to death). Ironic enough, Judge Doom ends up being dipped himself near the end of the film, after revealing himself to be actually a toon.

Finding Nemo – The Musical is a live puppet musical stage show based on Disney/Pixar's 2003 film Finding Nemo, located at the Theater in the Wild in DinoLand U.S.A at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The 40-minute show (which is performed five or six times daily) started holding previews on November 5, 2006, officially opening on January 24, 2007. The music, composed by Robert Lopez and his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez, the same couple that composed the music of Frozen and Frozen II, uses direct lines from the film, bringing the film characters to life on stage.

Disney is conjuring up a new “Haunted Mansion” live-action movie, based on its 51-year-old Disneyland theme park ride, with “Ghostbusters” writer Katie Dippold.
Producers are Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich through their Rideback banner. Lin has extensive producer experience with the “Sherlock Holmes,” “It,” and “Lego” franchises. He and Eirich teamed on Disney’s live-action “Aladdin” movie last year.

The Country Bears is a 2002 American family musical comedy film, directed by Peter Hastings, produced by Walt Disney Pictures, and based on the Disney theme park attraction Country Bear Jamboree. The film stars Christopher Walken, Daryl Mitchell, Diedrich Bader (in a dual role), Alex Rocco, and Haley Joel Osment as the voice of Beary Barrington with the voice talents of Candy Ford, James Gammon, Brad Garrett, Toby Huss, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Stephen Root.
It was Disney's second theatrical film based on an attraction at one of its theme parks and the third overall film based on an attraction following the television film Tower of Terror (1997) and the theatrically-released Mission to Mars (2000). Its world premiere was on July 21, 2002, at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, California. After that, it was released to theaters nationwide on July 26, 2002, and was a box office bomb, grossing $18 million of its $35 million budget.

Trader Sam appears at the very end of the Jungle Cruise attraction, holding a shrunken head aloft in his hand. A "Head Salesman", the Skipper comments that he's offering a special deal: "Two of his heads for one of yours". During the '80s and '90s, the Trader Sam figure wore a colorful tribal mask, though this was removed in 2005 during the refresh of the attraction.

In another major blow to movie theaters, Disney announced “Mulan” will forgo its planned theatrical release. Instead, the live-action remake is premiering on Disney Plus on Sept. 4 for a premium rental price.
The company believes that the release of the action epic will help drive subscribers while serving as a valuable test case to determine how much of their hard-earned cash customers are willing to part with in order to watch a movie that was originally intended to debut exclusively in cinemas.
Unlike the rest of the content available on Disney Plus, “Mulan” won’t be available directly to subscribers. Consumers in the U.S. and other territories will have to pay $29.99 to rent the movie on top of the streaming service’s monthly subscription fee of $6.99. In markets where Disney Plus isn’t available, “Mulan” will play in cinemas.

Born in Los Angeles on February 1, 1947, Tony Baxter grew up in Orange County, California. It was the perfect time and place for this future Imagineer—he not only witnessed the birth of the theme park industry, but he also grew up alongside his beloved Disneyland. A Disney fan from an early age, Tony especially enjoyed his weekly visits with Walt courtesy of the Disneyland television program. The show whetted his appetite for Walt’s new wonderland rising from the Anaheim citrus groves. In his spare time he could be found building models and mocking up rides in his backyard.

Today we are thrilled to share a first glimpse of a project Imagineers have been working on since last year. Splash Mountain – at both Disneyland park in California and Magic Kingdom park in Florida – will soon be completely reimagined. The theme is inspired by an all-time favorite animated Disney film, “The Princess and the Frog.” We pick up this story after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.
Tiana is a modern, courageous, and empowered woman, who pursues her dreams and never loses sight of what’s really important. It’s a great story with a strong lead character, set against the backdrop of New Orleans and the Louisiana bayou. In 1966, Walt himself opened New Orleans Square when it became the first new “land” added to Disneyland park, so it feels natural to link the story and the incredible music of “The Princess and the Frog” to our parks.

There was some big Disney Broadway news this week with the announcement that Frozen will not be reopening on Broadway and that Hamilton will be coming to Dinsey+ on July 3rd
Disney’s Frozen has become Broadway’s first long-running casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic and industrywide shutdown. The production, which opened March 22, 2018, at the St. James Theatre, announced today that it will not return when Broadway reopens — whenever that might be.
In the closure announcement, producers said the musical will not re-open “as a result of the industry-wide shutdown and resulting economic fallout.” The production’s final performance was Wednesday March 11, having played 825 performances and 26 previews.
“In the summer of 2013 when Frozen began its road to Broadway,” said Thomas Schumacher, President & Producer Disney Theatrical Productions, “two things were unimaginable: that we’d soon have five productions worldwide, and a global pandemic would so alter the world economy that running three Disney shows on Broadway would become untenable.
