Conversion therapy, which aims to turn gay and lesbian individuals straight, has harmed hundreds of thousands of LGBTQ people since it originated in the late 1800s. Even though it has been thoroughly dismissed by the modern medical community, conversion therapy is still practiced in many countries even today.
In the months following the 2016 election, 1 in 10 couples had ended relationships over political differences. The rate was twice as high among millennials. A quarter of Americans reported knowing someone whose relationship had been negatively affected by the 2016 election. Are politics ruining our romantic relationships?

Similar to white men in California during this time, Chinese men greatly outnumbered Chinese women, and it didn’t take long for Chinese gangs to take advantage of this situation. They set up brothels full of Chinese women throughout Chinatown and other areas where Chinese men congregated. San Francisco’s Chinatown became the epicenter of the Chinese sex trade in America. While the sex trade was hazardous for all women during this time, the prostitution of Chinese women was built on a particularly dangerous foundation of human trafficking, organized crime, and subjugation.

After our recent episode on Gloria Steinem, I wanted to look into another area of her career for a bonus episode. I saw that she was an anti-pornography feminist, and I thought “Hey - I’ll do an episode on that!” But once I started my research, I went down a giant rabbit hole concerning the decades-long debate between pro-porn and anti-porn feminists. So we will tip our hats to Ms. Gloria Steinem for being the launching point for this fascinating topic.
