Firstly, let me quickly express what an honour it is to record the last ever Just Greg’s Retrospective mix. I’ve been following this series since its inception, so it’s amazing to get to close it up with one final “hurrah!” This mix encapsulates everything I love about Jungle and Drum & Bass. Traversing liquid, atmospheric, footwork, and dark jungle, I tried to squeeze in as much forward thinking music as I could, chopped up with some of my absolute favourite amen based classics. I hope you all enjoy listening to this mix as much as I did putting it together.

Hi there my name's Lindsay and I'm a DnB Producer/DJ from Sydney. I've been listening to Drum & Bass for quite some time now after discovering it through playing Video Games.
For this mix I've thrown down some tunes I've been digging lately, whether it's because I've been playing them out at gigs/parties, or I've been listening to them while I'm out/at home. For me to describe the mix, it's a rollers mix with a liquid flavour that doesn't take itself too seriously, but still flows well from start to end. This is something I've wanted to put up in quite some time and I'm happy that Just-Greg has asked me to do it.
Enjoy! Handsprime

Having dug out some of her favourite darker tunes due to her upcoming support of DJINN this Friday, Alchemists mix is fierce and shows her ability to delve into any genre she’s taken by. Alchemist often explores and plays between halftime wonky future dnb which is a fun approach for her live sets… but, with this mix her true UK roots are felt! This one is not for the faint-hearted!

At the tender age of only 22, SATL has already fashioned a body of work to be proud of, and shows a maturity to his sound and musical approach that belies his newness to the game. His ear for a strong hook and sample is evident across his work, and he has already produced a number of tracks that are consistently being drawn by a wide range of DJs, and have been released on leading labels such as Integral, The North Quarter, Shogun Audio and Fokuz Recordings.
Hi, my name’s Anthony AKA Kaizen. I'm sure a lot of you have seen me skanking about at raves over the last few years. Been into jungle/drum and bass since composing ‘chopper’ by Shy FX as my ringtone on my Nokia 5110 :) Rediscovered my love for it when moving over here about 6 years ago. Been Djing about a year and a half now. Honestly, the reason I chose these tunes for my mix is simply because I have only recently started categorising my tunes into genre/sub-genres (mission and a half) and these are a selection of some of the first ones I have actually got around to sorting out. Therefore I have been listening and playing around with them a lot the last month or so….Hopefully for your enjoyment as well as mine :). There is one tune in there that is extra special to me, ‘Walk the Line’ by @Paramount Music. It was written in tribute for one of our friends and a champion of a human! Much love Sammy T.
Hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

Andrew: - This mix explores the “Grey Area” sound, which in my opinion is some of the most interesting, forward-thinking, and unique music being made right now. A collection of artists associated with and influenced by Samurai Music sub-label Horo are examining how techno, drum & bass, and ambient music intersect with one another through varying time signatures, BPMs, and beat patterns. It’s a sound which is more than the sum of its parts, and it’s been a big inspiration to me since discovering it. The mathematics of how it works is fascinating, and what’s really exciting is that its underlying principles are generalisable to other styles of music. Even though the “Grey Area” sound is predominantly darker, moodier, and grittier, it’s possible to apply its philosophy to a wide range of styles and vibes. The potential for experimentation and creativity that discovering this music has created for me has me feeling as excited as I did when I first learned how to DJ. Capturing that excitement is what I’ve essentially tried to do with this mix: honour the original creators of the sound while also interpreting it in my own way and applying it to other styles I love as well.

My names Gillittene, I’m a Sydney based Dnb DJ originally from Durban South Africa. I focus my style of drum and bass on the more technical side of things, I like deep heavy bass with dark drums.
In this mix I decided to throw in the two main styles of drum and bass I’ve been listening to recently. First half of the morning mix is some bass heavy emotional liquid, you can never go wrong with that. The second half is a deep tech drum and bass that flows into each track.

A veteran of the drum n bass scene in Sydney, Pappa Jase made his mark on d’n’b in 1995, having been a prominent house dj (youngjase) for many years. As resident and co-founder of the seminal drum & bass club Basscode in the 90’s, he was instrumental in shaping the scene. At a time when Jungle was the dominant sound, Basscode was one of the first clubs to bring the more musical side of drum & bass to the masses, and Pappa Jase was a pioneer of the melodic drum n bass sound, known today as liquid.
The mix In August, each year, as the winter season closes, there is always a brief moment where the weather is unusually warm. That moment brings anticipation for summer, and the sounds on this mix are inspired by that approaching summer feeling. Touches of reggae and soul, these are sunsets, drum & bass style.
Cheers, Jase

The 4th season starts with Makeshift's journey mix. He began with some very chilled tunes and evolved into gritty jungle. Makeshift: - I'm Makeshift from the UK. Been DJing for about 10 years and play all kinds of things...but DnB wise I'm more into Liquid/Soulful stuff than anything...and a bit of Jungle, tho I have to admit I got into Jungle a lot later than most people. Here I tried to see if I could go from the most chilled tunes in my library, to one of the most rowdy - that Sully remix at the end has to be my favourite track on the mix. Sully is just absolutely killing it at the moment.

Billy Green: - This mix represents my current favourite aesthetic in bass music. Jungle and drum and bass feature heavily, but other styles such as dubstep and dark techno have always moved me in a similar fashion. The track selection is heavily influenced by the current bass music scene in Sydney - with the lockouts in effect the party people have migrated to warehouses and other obscure venues, and I am noticing the focus for parties span multiple styles of music with emphasis placed on the party itself. These are the tunes that I like to hear in such settings, with most of them being released in the past 6 months or so.

Mr Pink: - Big ups to Greg for asking me to do a retrospective mix, It's definitely something I've been wanting to get involved with since it's beginning. When I was first asked to compile a mix of the tunes I've been listening to over the last month I thought it'd be an easy task, then the more I dug into it the more I realized I listen to too many different styles. Originally I recorded a mix which had a bit of Liquid, Jump Up, Rollers & some Deeper/ Halftime vibes but the problem was it didn't flow too nicely. In the end I loaded up all the tunes onto some CD's (Yes i'm still rocking 1000's) hit the record button and just let it progress naturally. Picking a favorite tune from the mix is a tough one as they all have something different to bring, But I'd have to go with "Should Have Known by PHACTION". It's been on high rotation since I copped the release in May, It has a serious bassline and no matter what my mood it always puts a smile on my face and gets my head boppin.

I've dedicated this mix to those artists that inspire me most in the art and science of breakbeat manipulation. While most of the tracks in this mix are recent releases, the tracks from Fracture & Neptune and Andy Skopes are from 2004 and 2005 respectively. This mix also has a bit of a sci-fi theme, right down to the obligatory Blade Runner sample.
Massive shout-outs to Corey, Jack and Cassie, as well as everyone who's supported my musical endeavours in both Sydney and Melbourne. My next gig is with the Adidoss crew at Radio Bar in Fitzroy on Thursday May 18th - expect a rhythmic workout much like this mix. Peace!

I am Dj Munk and founder of Airbourne Crew which was active in Sydney’s dnb scene back in 2002-2005. I have been long retired from promoting and Djing in the Sydney scene but my love and passion for drum & bass, old skool jungle and downtempo and music never died. I still actively buy vinyl (old skool jungle) and digital tunes (dnb) and regularly mix it up at home on technics 1210’s. For me good music is not about bound by when it was released. Good choons sound timeless… Dnb wise I am a liquid, atmospheric and heavy roller & tek kinda guy. I can’t play one style for a whole mix. This mix is perfect example of my vibe for last couple of months.. to me most important thing is how music flows together. I always try to go deep with my music selection and let music breath in the mix and breakdowns.. the tune of the year 2016 for me was Tehbis & Touchy Subject - Elephants in the Room. It is a nice way to end this mix. Kinda my way of doing things. Hope you enjoy!

Over the last two years Philth has released a steady stream of EP’s across some of the genres most respected labels, with his cinematic vision giving us The Beasts, The Cosmos, The Elements, The Circle and most recently The Mammoth, which drew heavy support from London Elektricity. In the midst of this series he has delivered Attenborough-inspired singles with sparring partner Agman Gora, the anthem ‘Don’t Let Go’ and follow up VIP with regular collaborator Collette Warren, and made numerous guest appearances most notably on Riya’s ‘Sublimation’ LP and the subsequent Deluxe Edition. 28 year old Interior Design student from Sydney. I have fallen into the world of DJing after entering Your Shot, an amateur DJ competition back in 2015 which I came runner up in NSW with less than 30 hours DJ experience. I’m still learning, there’s so much to go through! I’m really passionate about drum and bass along with dubstep although I have a wide taste in music taste these two always grab my attention the most. The tracks I have chosen are from music I have been given over the last year. I have learnt so much from my peers and have found that drum and bass has so many facets to it, and I love all of them! These artists have been around for a while but I am still discovering music from them that inspire me to search for more and really refine my own identity within the genre. They are not the style I prefer to play but I think with these you can really become creative with mixing.

It wasn't easy coz he, sorry, it is quite introvert. It doesn't like to talk too much about itself but I think that's highly understandable. So, BattleDrone is a space traveler and Earth is just one of those planets it visits now and then. As it said "It's the only planet with McDonalds".
It turned out that their interplanetary wavelength communication is the same as we call drum and bass.
First time when I heard its crazy jazzy jungle drums and beats just blew my mind!
What a great way of communication :)
I hope you will enjoy its mix as I do :)

Alice D: - When Greg asked me to be a part of this series I was pretty stoked because all the mixes are very unique and everyone brings something different to the table. Greg having asked me not long after I got to open FF.01, thanks to the awesome boys at Flying Fortress, I had jazzy jungle vibes on my mind. So when it came time to do the mix I threw in a few I got to play at the gig and a few with a harder amen sound that I decided against at the time. Most of them are of older tracks with a few modern ones in there too. I start off pretty slow but build to 160 by the end and primarily because I wanted to play the Portishead - Glory Box remix because I've only recently discovered it and play it every chance I get (my housemates are reluctant to give me the aux cord as a result).

Person3: - I’ve been into drum n bass for about 10 years now and I found my way to dnb through hip hop. I wanted to put together a mix that showcased some of my favourite dnb sounds of the last few years, some of the places that dnb and hip hop have converged and to finish off with a couple of my favourite hip hop instrumentals of all time.

*About me: I've always loved music. It is my earliest memory of being alive. I grew up listening to groups such as Queen, Kool & The Gang, and other "Soft rock" and Funk acts, until I first heard heavy metal, at the age of 8. I threw myself into that head first, listening to the heaviest, and fastest metal I could find. Then I discovered Hardcore Metal, not the "emo-crap", but proper New York hardcore. Aaaaand then nu-Metal happened. I first heard Drum & Bass, as it was just being known from the jungle days. I was 16, and I fell in love! I didn't know what it was, or is, about it that I love so much, but it is the best thing I have ever heard, and I'll be listening to this until the day I die, AS WILL MY KIDS! I Dj "professionally" for a living, and I play anything from 4-6 gigs a week. I play Golden Era (80's & 90's) Hip-Hop, Classic 70's & 80's Funk and Disco, and Jacking & Bassline house. I love my job, however, it is also the reason that I don't get to come to as many DnB gigs as I'd like.

All my family are really in to their music, I learned to play the piano and saxophone from around the age of 10 and grew up listening to all sorts of music. It was my older brother that really got me into jungle and drum and bass in the late 90's. I was a bit young to be going out clubbing back then but I got hooked on the music through listening to his cassette packs of raves like Best of British and One Nation from back in the day. He had some 1210's and a good collection of vinyl and I just fell in love with drum and bass from then.
I know it's a quite general question but can you tell me which dnb tune was the first one you've ever heard?
That's a tough one! I couldn't put my finger on one but a tune which stands out as being memorable is the Alliance remix of Champion Sound by Q Project.
Why do play and produce liquid?
I'm not a huge fan of the 'liquid' label but I’ve always been drawn more in to the melodic, atmospheric side of drum and bass that you can get lost in, but as long as it has a good vibe and makes your head nod that's all that matters.
When did you start to produce music?
I first dabbled with production software in 2002.
Who are your favourite dnb producers?
Too many but top 5 would include: Calibre, LTJ Bukem, Lenzman, Alix Perez, Break.
What does make them special for you?
They are all just top quality producers who have the knack of making banging tunes that I’m equally happy listening to on headphones or on a big club system.
Thanks once more Dave!

BlueBeard about the mix: - So it’s quite obvious from this mix that my taste in 160-170 music has been going all over the shop in recent times due to exceptional outputs from a wide variety of different labels and producers pushing boundaries at the moment. When I was asked to put together a selection of tracks I have been listening to over the past month I realized a majority of it was footwork and modern 160 bpm jungle cuts, so I wanted to explore how well these two styles influence and bounce off one another. Hope you enjoy!

Syncopix:
I started mixing my parents´ oldschool compilations and recorded on mixtapes for friends and myself.
Around 85' I caught up with the New Wave and Synth-Pop sound. I got into everything from “Depeche Mode” to “Kraftwerk” and 70s Funk and Soul. Sometime later I followed up groups such as Hijack, Silver Bullet, Son of Noise or Gun Shot. It was hip hop and rap which accompanied me on my musical exploration. While playing all kinds of classic instruments I learned to play drums which lead to a logical progression to a faster and harder sound for listening.
In 1993 my first MK 1210's and a Vivanco mixer found its way into my bedroom. Vinyls would fly over them until 1994 the first D&B club called "De Underground/ Cubic" (Powerhouse, Hamburg) would open its doors.
In 2000 I started the Syncopix label as a platform for the music that coming out of my room. This pseudonym still stands for the production, the studio, and for my musical expression. The intension is to keep myself more in the background while the music does the talking.
Keeping it coming, I got in touch with the Hospital Records in London and they´d put out a tune called “Swollen” on their compilation series “Plastic Surgery 04 #2”. It followed by a 12” vinyl on their M.A.S.H. imprint “Soul secure/ Paris”.
The first official single “Happy-Happy, Joy-Joy” got licensed for the “Weapons of Mass Creation” compilation on Hospital Records. The 12” features the Hospital anthem “General Hospital” which is a tribute to the label. They also released the “Travellin´Man” single.
In 2008 I won 2nd time the German Drum and Bass award (future music award, best producer 2005 and 2007).
Also in this year I started a new project together with the Mojo-Club in Hamburg called “Rogue Soul”. It went straight into the BBC rotation playlist (“Be with you”), and the album got signed by the major label Edel Records.
I released my second album the Urban Symphonies in April 2009. Also in this year Hospital Records signed “Mr. Resident” for the SIIICK album. LtJ Bukem signed “So in need” for vinyl release on Good Looking Rec. and Spearhead has put its hands on tracks are called “Glossy” and “Stay In Touch” for a vinyl 12”. Dj Marky and S.P.Y. were remixed the track “Be With You”.
The year 2010 I started a new collaboration between Syncopix Records and the Vienna based label Blu:Saphir to work on a CD/digital label compilation for SYNC:SAPHIR. This platform is focusing on the more minimal and deeper drum n bass genre, featuring like Enei, Mr. Sizef, Joe Syntax and many more.
After a few studio switches and sound adjustments in 2015 I got back to work on my new Album which will be released early this year.

My name is Deccie and I’m a DJ/producer from Sydney, Australia. Anyone who’s at all familiar with my productions or sets knows that I’m a huge sucker for balls-out bangers. However, I do have a very broad taste in music and when I was asked to do the December Retrospective mix, I took it as an opportunity to show my softer side. The tunes I put in this mix are ones that carried me into the new year, along with a couple of personal favourites and my own work. I’m happy with the result of this mix and I hope it’s something that people will be able to listen to over and over!

Drum and bass has been my focus for around three years now, so I still feel that it's a relatively recent music development for me. Ten or so years ago I started mixing house then quickly onto breaks, both are styles of music that I still appreciate today.
There's a plethora of words used to describe subgenres and niches buried within any and all styles of music that confuse me. Irrespective of genre or style though, I guess there are two "common threads" or "sounds" that I've always loved. Be it dnb, house, breaks, even hip hop..
One is that fun, funky, feel good sound embodied by breaks labels like Goodgroove Records, Super-HiFi, Funk Weapons, Bomb Strikes, Jalapeño Records, Freestyle Records, etc.
The other is what you'll hear in this mix. Use whatever words you want to describe it. Maybe it's deep. Maybe it's techy? Definitely drum and bass. Whatever sort of drum and bass you want to call it.
When I was asked to record this, I shortlisted a load of the first tunes/artists that popped into my head. Artists like Sunchase, Zero T, Ulterior Motive, Survival, Dose, Enei, Scar. I chose these tunes simply because this is what I love listening to. Moulded and Infinite Drift will always be two of my favourite tracks.
Hope you enjoy it.
Jayem
P.s. I even sneakily through a tune of my own in there too. The only track I feel like I've managed to complete.

Hi, my name is Lars Vegas. I've listened to drum and bass almost 10 years (wow I just realised it). I've been Djing since I was 13. I started with Reggae and Dancehall which slowly turned into some serious DnB. I love my very techy DnB :)
I chose these tracks because basically they are always on my Iphone (after an accidental reset I put them back straight away).
As German I can't miss this chance to use some tracks of Rammstein. I hope you guys enjoy my mix.

This one's on the half-step / juke side of things, quite different from my usual tip. I've had that reggae tune, 'One Night I Burned', stuck in my head for a couple of weeks. It was that track that determined the whole shape of the mix. I must have tried at least a couple dozen different pairings and none of them quite fitted. Then I tried the Neonlight and everything started falling into place.
A lot of the tracks in this mix are ones I've bought recently, but there are some older favourites in there (Addison Groove remix, the DJ Rashad track) and of course there's some Inna Riddim tunes in there (Forestsound, Mike G) and some Sydney vibes (Slice, Undertow, Anomie).
Enjoy. If you dig, check out Inna Riddim on SoundCloud :)

I chose these tracks because of the progression within them. I feel like in a mix there should be a gradient in energy and atmosphere. This is an excellent way for dj's to pave the way for a headliner and get the audience hyped.

Hey ho, here is a quick mix I threw together of some liquid songs that I think are kind of interesting. It contains some old, some new and some unreleased music. Three of the songs here are from a belated five-track EP which I will give out in the next few days.

This mix consists of tunes from some of my favourite artists from over the years. There had always been a particular "sound" that guys like Matrix and C4C had in the late 90's and early 00's. Tunes that just works for any occasions, dance floor or not. To me, Calibre is GOAT, Fracture and Neptune for their consistently fatness beats, Ivylab are a fresh collection forward thinking producers and Vtek was the best forgotten Sydney dnb producer.
