Hello andwelcome to Macabre for Mortals, thank you for joining me for this true crimeepisode. This is another cold case that was lost in mystery for a long timeuntil it suddenly heated up again. There are very few cases that become so coldand then suddenly become solved as quickly as this one. My intrigue into coldcases always fuels my passion, and I wonder if at some point I will be able tohelp a victim and their families.
The case ofHelen Brach, the heiress who mysteriously disappeared in 1977, is still one fothe most surprising cases in the United States legal history. No witnesses, nobody and no leads for the police to follow up on, the case went cold veryquickly after her death, even though clearly someone had been killed for hermoney. Then in a surprise twist, the case warmed up many years later, and theman who was responsible for her death was finally brought to justice.

As I have said I have a head study month the month of June and everything just seemed to catch up with me, but I am back on schedule now and looking forward to the next few months of continuous episodes.
This week, as promised, I will be speaking about blood spatter. I read a book about six years ago called blood secrets by Rod Englert and it has always stuck me since how much investigators can tell from a scene just by the blood spatter. Don’t get me wrong this is not for the feint hearted.

Hello and welcome to this weeks episode of macabre for murder. I hope last weeks episode was a little different to the normal true crime episodes and that it gave you some enlightening information on the case of Shaun.
This week I will be delving into another subject, that of werewolves. Since I was young the lore of vampires and werewolves has fascinated me. I have read many fantasy and sci-fi fiction on these groups and I always wanted to know more about were these lores came from and how they have morphed into the stories of today. I find it fascinating that no matter were in the world, at each point of history, human beings has similar stories about creatures of the night. They shared many common characteristics but also had some differences based on the culture they were formed from. This always makes me awe inspired that even though we are different through time and culture we still have the same train of thought.

I enjoy these subject and I believe they do make up the nature of humans. The tapestry of our past makes us the picture of who we are today, and only we can alter it for future generations.

Hello and welcome to another episode of Macabre for Mortals. Thank you for all the lovely comments that I have received in regards to my last few series. It is really encouraging to read such great responses.
I was a bit unsure about what true crime I was going to cover this week. I would like to cover a serial killer but I am trying to find a way to cover the crimes with having the victims still central. I will cover one of the serial killers in which I have done quite a lot of research on in my time. But I think that is going to come after my next in depth series on Schizophrenia.
This week I am going to cover the case of Shaun Ouilette, which I have just watched a documentary on and the interview was mainly with his mother. I felt that this kind of documentary was well done as it focused mainly on Shaun and what he was like as a person and only touched on his killer slightly towards the end of the episode.
For myself, I feel I have been able to empathise with the victims of crimes, but since becoming a mother something has become far more poignant whenever anything happens to a child. I imagine how I would feel in this mothers situation and honestly I think it would kill me or bring me to the brink of it. People who are grieving or experience this sort of trauma have such amazing strength. I know eventually they resent hearing that because they shouldn’t have to be strong, they should never have had to experience this sort of trauma. To these victims, I am sorry you have had to bear this.
This murder was also covered in a Law and Order Episode, and honestly they did it justice. The one thing I have always respected about this show is the fact that they don’t gloss over the hard parts of a crime. It maybe glamourised but they always show the disappointments and the wrongs in every part of the case. The episode is called Trust and was released in 1992, if you are interested in giving it a watch after listening to this episode.

Hello and Welcome to another Episode of Macabre for Mortals. This is part two of the three-part series on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. As we learned from the first episode, there are lots of ways for PTSD to emerge and also a lot of ways the symptoms can develop. As with most disorders there is not a one size fits all diagnosis. This is mostly down to our new invested interest in the field of mental health. I say this since the medical field has been interested in disease and the workings of the human body for thousands of years. But when it came to mental health, it was a lot easier to lock people away and forget about them than understand what the brain is going through. However, like physicians of the past, I believe that at times we are so eager to find out about mental health that we pigeonhole symptoms and patients into the wrong categories too fast rather than spending quality time and finding their correct diagnosis or their unique symptomology.

In secondary school (or high school to my international listeners) I was fortunate enough to have classics and Latin as part of my curriculum. I loved anything to do with the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations and how their languages have influenced all of our modern languages around the world today. This is the part of the series were I will be focusing on the victims of NPD, these people can be so affected by the type of abuse this personality can inflict that it can take years, or sometimes, a life time to get over it. Hopefully I can equip you with the signs and information for you to see if someone you know or yourself is being subjected to someone with a NPD.

This week we will be building on last weeks episode, so if you have not listened to that yet then pause this and go listen to episode 5. This week we will be discussing the subject of Munchausen syndrome by proxy. I will discuss what the symptoms are, what causes it and how common it is. I will then finish off the episode by covering a few cases surrounding this syndrome.
Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSP) -- or Munchausen by proxy -- is a psychological disorder marked by attention-seeking behaviour by a caregiver through those who are in their care.
MSP is a relatively rare behavioural disorder. It affects a primary caretaker, often the mother. The person with MSP gains attention by seeking medical help for exaggerated or made-up symptoms of a child in their care. As health care providers strive to identify what's causing the child's symptoms, the deliberate actions of the parent or caretaker can often make the symptoms worse.

Munchausen Syndrome is a factitious disorder in which a person repeatedly and deliberately acts as if he or she has a physical or mental illness when they are not really sick. However, the syndrome itself is considered a mental illness because it is often associated with severe emotional difficulties.
