The Church of England bishops and members of the recent General Synod meeting (held on the 6th to 9th February 2023) upheld the concept of endorsing, affirming, blessing, and celebrating same-sex relationships. This is dangerous because it is at odds with the traditional view and the the accepted doctrines of the church. The Archbishop of Canterbury has told a gathering of bishops that church members have “disagreed without hatred” this week over same-sex marriage decisions. It comes after the archbishop reaffirmed a 1998 Anglican declaration rejecting same-sex marriage, sparking a controversy over the church’s relationships with the LGBTQ+ community.

The rescue of animals by Paul "Pen" Farthing has garnered criticism in that he brought animals out of #Afghanistan from Kabul airport whilst many humans were left stranded. Note that #PenFarthing himself has never said the cats and dogs were a priority over humans. All he did was try to save some animals from the consequences of human behaviour. Easter is about new starts, new life, new birth. This is often symbolised with images of eggs and chicks. We give and receive Easter eggs and maybe cards with pictures of spring sunshine or newborn chicks. All these are symbols of the season of spring and of a new, start a new beginning. We think about new life at Easter is because Jesus, who was crucified on that first Good Friday, rose to new life on the first Easter Sunday. This is not just a wonderful story, it’s an historical fact. Jesus’ body was never found and his resurrection never disproved. This was despite the best efforts of the mighty Roman Empire and the committed and powerful Jewish leaders to destroy the early church and discredit their belief. The early disciples were changed from a frightened and disillusioned group to men who stood up against the authorities and eventually gave their lives for what they believed – for what they knew to be true – that Jesus came back to life on Easter Sunday. New life for Jesus leading to new life in his disciples. The impacts of what happened that first Easter are still relevant today. When Jesus died and rose, he did it for us. There's an old Yiddish witticism "To make God laugh, tell him your plans." Perhaps we’re accustomed to thinking of Jesus only as “a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief” (Isa 53:3). His crucifixion is certainly no laughing matter. Or maybe the image of a laughing Jesus offends simply because it makes him too human. Yet Hebrews 4:15 tells us that Jesus is able to sympathize with us because he is exactly like us (minus the sinning). A few musings on how UFO's keep cropping up in the area in which I live. On the morning of Tuesday 3 May 1977 at around 1am, what must surely rank as the largest UFO ever reported was allegedly seen over Wirral.A cabby working for CC Taxis was parked up on Wallasey’s Penkett Road, waiting for a woman to pay her fare. The moon was full and Penkett Road was bathed in its silvery light. A shadow fell across the neighbourhood and the cabby looked up to see an immense black disc-shaped object blotting out the moon as it slowly moved east towards the river. The woman the cabby had been waiting for came out of her house to pay her fare and also saw the gigantic object overhead. A man walking his dog on nearby Caithness Drive saw the gigantic UFO and at the exact same time on the other side of Wirral, a young courting couple who had been sitting in a parked car on Caldy Road also witnessed the eclipse of the full moon by the UFO. As more and more sightings of the giant in the sky came in, it was established that the craft must have been around ten miles in diameter. It was seen by people in Liverpool, Chester, Flint and Ellesmere Port. Overnight in March, the doors of every church building were closed, unilaterally. And they were not responsible. It was not their fault. But it could have a permanent effect. The death of George Floyd, an African-American man in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has prompted a global outcry over the scale of racism and police brutality that exists today. Mr Floyd pleaded to officers “I can’t breathe”, but police officer Derek Chauvin continued to press his knee into Mr Floyd’s neck for almost nine minutes. Maggie and Pete discuss why we need to get up and go on world mission. We need to reach out the world in evangelistic mission because God has promised to bless all nations (or people groups) on the earth. What better motivation and encouragement can we have than the understanding that missions (blessing the nations with the Gospel) is in the sure purposes of God. Because Jesus has already purchased people from every tribe and nation with His blood. Like the Moravians motivated by this purchase we should repeat what two Moravians missionaries said as they set sail for India, “May the Lamb receive the reward of His suffering!” In other words, He has already purchased them, our job is only to gather in what is His.
We look at John chapter 3 and its enduring importance in bringing people out of a path to destruction into ultimate salvation. “If we were asked to read to a dying man who did not know the gospel, we should probably select this chapter as the most suitable one for such an occasion; and what is good for dying men is good for us all, for that is what we are; and how soon we may be actually at the gates of death, none of us can tell.” (Spurgeon)

God does exist but how do you know that. Steve, Shereen, Maggie and your humble host Peter put forwards the reasons why they personally believe in God. We all know and believe many things about ourselves, our world, and the people around us. ll 118 of the Church of England’s bishops and archbishops have issued a rare joint rebuke of MPs for language “not worthy of our country”.
The College of Bishops say in a joint statement today: “In the last few days, the use of language, both in debates and outside parliament, has been unacceptable. We should speak to others with respect . . . We should not denigrate, patronise or ignore the honest views of fellow citizens, but seek to respect their opinions, their participation in society, and their votes.” Are they completely out of touch?
Teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg delivered an emotionally charged speech on climate change at the United Nations on Monday, drawing wide-eyed responses from political pundits throughout the day.
"This speech by far-left activist Greta Thunberg is absolute madness," said political reporter Ryan Saavedra.
The UK's highest court has ruled that Boris Johnson broke the law when he advised the Queen to suspend parliament in a bombshell unanimous judgement. The court ruled that it was "unlawful, void and of no effect". Supreme Court President Lady Hale said the prorogation was "void and of no effect", adding: "Parliament has not been prorogued." Does this mean that the Queen no longer has the right to prorogue parliament unless the courts say so. What a mess! Pete is worried about the constitutional crisis.

In a power grab by the state, there are proposals in England that will replace Marriage Registers and Marriage Certificates (issued at the time of the wedding) with a Marriage Document which will be prepared by the officiating priest before the wedding. At the ceremony, the Marriage Document will be signed by the couple, their witnesses and the officiating priest (in much the same way as the Registers are currently).

Nayib Bukele was elected president of El Salvador this past February. At the age of 37, he is the youngest president ever elected in El Salvador, and the youngest president in Central America. He has little political experience prior to this election, having only served briefly as a mayor. He is a successful businessman who had no ultimate desire to run for president.
Yesterday in El Salvador, President Bukele addressed a conference of pastors, businessmen and businesswomen, and local leaders. The day before, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited the presidential palace. He and Bukele announced joint efforts between the United States and El Salvador to confront drug trafficking, reduce pressures on immigration and pursue joint economic development.
At today's conference, instead of highlighting the successful state visit, Bukele delivered a personal testimony on his feelings about government. He told the story about being of Palestinian heritage and finding purpose in Christianity. He was a successful businessman by the age of 29, making more money than he ever dreamed. He had no desire to be a politician. He served as mayor to give back to his community as many self-sacrificing people do. Service on city councils, school boards and city task forces are often thankless jobs.
Last year, Bukele was approached by a group of pastors who told him they had received a spiritual message that he should run for president. His response was as you might expect: "No way; you've got to be kidding." Later, another group approached him with the same prophecy. He thought it odd, but this time took note. As the deadline for making a decision about running for president neared, he was approached a third time. These pastors were certain they were correct in their message to him. They asked him to prayerfully consider a run. When they pressed him for an answer, they told him they would respectfully accept his decision. He again told them no.
Bukele struggled with his final decision. Soon thereafter, another pastor whom he did not know advised him not to "fall into the fourth place." When asked to expand on what he meant, the pastor said it was missing God's call on your life. Bukele then decided to reconsider and filed for the office of presidency.
In the opening days of the campaign, Bukele fell into disagreement with his political party. They threatened to kick him out of the party, which would eliminate his position on the ballot. He stood his ground, and the party expelled him. In his testimony to the audience, he said he asked God: "Why would You lead me to this point if You wanted me to run? Why did You allow this to happen?" He paused and then referenced the fact that God did not answer him.
As was the normal in this scenario, a stranger turned up at the campaign headquarters and explained that Bukele could still get on the ballot with 50,000 citizens' signatures on a petition. He had no idea how to obtain them. The stranger said, "We'll take care of it." Forty-eight hours later, 200,000 people had signed a petition for his candidacy. When advised of this, the campaign manager thought they had said 20,000 because even that seemed like an unrealistic number.
Bukele won the general election with 53% of the vote, trouncing all party candidates at one time. No individual had won the presidency in that country since 1972 without a major party endorsement. On the night of the election, he was still surprised at the results. In discussions with his spiritual leaders, he was asked, what makes you think God needs a political party?
Since his election, Bukele has instituted more reforms than all presidents of the previous 49 years combined. For instance, he swept all prisons of cell phones so inmates could not direct illegal activity outside of the prison walls. Funny, no one ever thought of that before. before!
After his speech today, Bukele attended lunch with a smaller group of us. He told us that he had no prepared remarks for the morning speech. He walked to the stage intent on speaking from his heart to simply give his personal testimony. He was most grateful for God's faithfulness. A few of us had an opportunity to address him directly. It was clear that the way he receives information and decides how to act upon it is based upon an analysis of whether or not such action will help the families of El Salvador. In his general address, he said through all this he finally came to the conclusion that, when God continues to give you the picture so many times, and always shows up in support of the vision, that maybe it is time to start believing Him.

The United Kingdom is scheduled to have a general election on Thursday 8 June 2017. In response to infighting and voting against the Brexit process following the UK's decision to leave the European Union the previous June Theresa May came out and called for a general election in a statement on April 18th 2017.
