On this episode, Josh & Drew sit down with guest Amy Frank to hear another powerful story of redemption.

Amy takes us back to her childhood where her story starts in "complete blindness". Amy grew up in an abusive home in Texas and came to Mississippi with her mother and siblings to get away. Because of the abuse, Amy lived a isolated childhood. Even as a kid, Amy found herself in a care taker role, not experiencing a typical childhood.

As a rebelous 16 year old with a baby, Amy found herself abandoned by her family in a time that she desperately needed them the most. Living 4 hours from her home, she found herself rejected by those she had knew all her life, and feeling completely lost a feeling that would follow her for years to come.

Years later Amy found herself alone yet again after a rough breakup. It was there that she was introduced to crack cocaine for the first time and was instantly hooked on the numbing effect of that high.

Amy spent the next few years running and chasing that high that made her forget being lost. That running eventually caught up with Amy and that's where she had her "But God" moment in a Rankin County Courtroom. A single moment that changed Amy's life from being lost to being found.

Has the consequences of a choice you made in the past finally caught up with you?

We will all make bad choices, some more than others. Regardless, we will all make bad choices in life. Sometimes the payment for those choices comes instantly and other times there is a delay; but rest assured the bill always comes.

Colossians 3:25 confirms this. "..he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality."

For some of us, we made a bad choice and that choice is what catapulted us into recovery. It only seems right that us accepting a new life in recovery would absolve us from any guilt or of any consequences from what we had done in our old life.

That is just not the case. In this episode we will hear of someone going through this exact situation. The guys break down how we should press on and continue in our sobriety and recovery even though the bill has come due.

It's that dreaded time of year again, it's another Season Finale of Unashamed Recovery. As we say goodbye to Season 4, we are going out with a bang! The guys sit down with the director of Voice of Hope Men's Recovery Program, Jon Layton.

Jon's story starts off like a lot of our stories, with a lack of accountability. From a lie from the enemy planted early in life, Jon finished high school already wrapped in the chains of addiction. Those chains only got tighter as the years went, as nearly 2 decades passed by. Living as a functioning addict, Jon lived in denial for years in the blur of his disease.

It wasn't until 25 years later that rock bottom would finally find Jon in the darkness of the pit that he had dug himself in. Jon finally heard the voice of hope that called him out of that darkness and has been living the sober life ever since.

S4 Ep 041 - Through the Veil: Unmasking Blind Spots on the Recovery Journey

Have you ever found yourself needing to change lanes on a 4 lane highway and you look around and check your mirrors and you don't see another vehicle around so you go ahead and start drifting over only to be confronted with the surprise honk of another vehicle coming up on your side? That vehicle had been there the whole time, hiding in your blind spot.

Those of us in recovery can get blind spots too, and it's just as dangerous as crossing over onto another vehicle on a highway. Because for us, blind spots in our recovery usually means we are heading for a relapse.

Today, we're diving deep into the blind spots in recovery, guided by the wisdom and teachings found in the Scriptures. We all have blind spots—those areas of our lives that we're unaware of or struggle to see clearly. In the context of recovery, blind spots can be significant obstacles on our journey to wholeness. Just as Blind spots are often hidden from our own view, and it takes divine revelation and self-reflection to recognize and address them. So buckle up, put on your blinker as we go through the veil : unmasking blind spots on the recovery journey.

It is so easy for us to continue acting like an addict even after we get into recovery. Often times we are still carrying around the baggage of bad behaviors that we picked up in our addiction. But if we are to grow and change, those behaviors that helped us to survive, has to be replaced with good choices, because once the use stops, action has to follow. Old ways won't open new doors. And that is exactly what Josh and Drew are digging in to on this episode with 8 ways to help the process of breaking the bad.

Serenity goes hand and hand with the recovery process. At first it seems unobtainable...almost impossible. We start thinking we will never be able to live in a serene state of mind inside the chaos that is our brokenness and our hurt. But, early on in our recovery journey we learn that we must give up control and surrender to our higher power. That is where the serenity prayer comes in to teach us to be okay in the moments where we can or cannot change the outcome. It teaches us to live in the moment and for us in recovery, it's crucial for us to maintain the one day at a time lifestyle. In what areas of your life can you apply serenity today?

The Serenity Prayer:

God, grant me the serenity

to accept the things I cannot change,

the courage to change the things I can,

and the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time,

enjoying one moment at a time;

accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;

taking, as Jesus did,

this sinful world as it is,

not as I would have it;

trusting that You will make all things right

if I surrender to Your will;

so that I may be reasonably happy in this life

and supremely happy with You forever in the next.

S4 Ep 039 - stay the course :

The recovery process isn’t always a mountain top experience. The excitement and the new recovery smell will soon fade. It’s then that we will open ourselves up to burnout and fatigue. It’s then in our weariness that we must press on. In this episode let's talk about perseverance in our recovery and practical ways we can implement them into our daily recovery. We are also looking at several scripture references for perseverance including :

•James 1:2-4 :

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

•Galatians 6:9 : 

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

•2 Corinthians 11: 23-33 :

“Are they servants of Christ, I am a better one. I am talking like a madman with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless beatings, and often near death. Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the 40 lashes, three times I was beating with rods. Once I was stoned Three times I was shipwrecked a night and a day. I was adrift at sea. On frequent journeys in danger from rivers danger from robbers danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, and danger from false brothers in toil and in hardship through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food and cold, and exposure. And apart from the other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches. Who is weak, am I not weak? Who is made to fall, and I am not indignant. If I must boast I will boast of the things that show my weakness, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus, He who is blessed for ever knows that I am not lying…”

Last month, we heard a remarkable story of how one person was saved by grace.

In this month's episode we are looking at addiction from the point of view of the spouse of an addict.

Josh and Drew sit down with Krisha, the founder of Spouses Choosing Hope in Addiction and Recovery [S.C.H.A.R.] a support group that is for the spouses of addicts. Krisha drops us right into the middle of her story that set the stage to ultimately create S.C.H.A.R. and how it was born out of recycled pain when she found out she had been married to an addict. At the end, Krisha learns what it truly means of love lived out.

Eventually we will get to a place inside our recovery that will require us to step outside of the blanket of protection that our anonymity provides. Step 12 requires us to share what we have learned with others; to give back to the program that gave so much to us. When we work the program properly, by the time we get to Step 12, we should be at a place of healing that now allows us to own our story and to be comfortable in shedding the anonymity and sharing the hope. Inside recovery circles all over the world, we hear these three words a lot!

The thing about discouragement is that it can come out of anywhere and can come from anything. If we are not careful that doom & gloom hanging over our recovery can lead to a relapse. S2 Ep 016 : alone | Dana’s Story Our last episode told the tale of a common battle for men. Episode 016 continues that tale and then some. Dana's story tells the opposite side of that coin, the stigmatized porn addiction struggle of women. Dana's story begins with the childhood trauma of severe blame and eventually multiplies with grief. Like most porn addicts, the addiction soon progresses into sex addiction and Dana find herself in numerous relationships but none seem to fill in the void in her life. None seem to fill in that lingering feeling of being alone.

S2 Ep 015 - masks : the war with myself | Josh’s Story

As we continue into Season 2, Josh takes a turn in the hot seat for this episode.

Josh's story is a lot like many other men. Josh's drug of choice isn't your typical fix of drug or alcohol. At a young age Josh was introduced to porn and from that moment he was thrown into the rabbit hole that he didn't escape from for over 20 years. What started off as a 'innocent' image of the monthly playmate led to infidelity. Inside the chaos of Josh's addiction, he did like so many addicts and learn to embrace the use of masks to survive. Josh had a mask for everything.. One for church, another for work, a home mask, family mask, husband mask, father mask, and the list went on. Josh became very good at juggling those masks and became good at wearing the right mask at the right time to be the person he was expected to be. Masks gives us the illusion that we are in control. Even at rock bottom Josh still thought he was in control of his addiction.

Her opioid addiction had spiraled out of control and had landed her into forging prescriptions throughout South Mississippi.
