Longshot was born Charles Cousins in Washington, DC on August 24, 1971. He started writing poetry at a young age and won his first poetry contest in the third grade. In the seventh grade, his love for music became more prominent when he switched from break dancing, and became a rapper -- as defined by the culture he was living in. At the tender age of sixteen, he experienced a very traumatic event in his life, due to the insensitivity of a previously loving father. This event caused him to put down his pen. Consequently, he would not pick it up again until sixteen years later. After being transformed by God from the inside out, Charles became “Longshot”. The name, as he likes to explain, was birthed because he was homeless and had to eat out of trash cans. Also, people believed that It would be a “long shot” if he would even survive or be successful. While they assumed his demise, God had other plans for his life.Longshot has made a name for himself as an explosive and energetic Christian poet. “Its about ministering, I just want to win souls” he says. Longshot continues to minister consistently throughout the region and is submitted to God’s plan for his life.
