In this episode, we're talking to David Thomas, Chairman of the Society of Mortgage Professionals.

The UK mortgage market has undergone a significant structural change in the last decade. Record low mortgage rates have been accompanied by the tightening of affordability rules, and loan-to-value ratios that are far less than those of the pre-credit crunch era.

The demise of defined benefit pensions has also led to a growing number pulling cash out of their property to fund retirement.

This podcast episode explores how the Society of Mortgage Professionals can effect positive change in the mortgage market.

The issue of pricing and transparency in general insurance has never been under greater scrutiny. In September 2018, Citizens Advice submitted a Super Complaint to the Competition and Markets Authority, calling on them to identify remedies and recommendations to put an end to the penalty paid by loyal and disengaged consumers in 5 essential retail markets; one of which was household insurance.

Since then, the CII Public Trust Index has laid the framework which identified rewarding loyalty as the biggest opportunity for the insurance profession to build public trust.

In this episode of CII Radio, we're talking to Nigel Brook, partner at Clyde & Co, about climate change liability.

Today, most businesses are vulnerable to climate change risks. Companies in the energy sector, or other carbon intensive parts of the world economy, now face repeated litigation.

Increasingly, we're seeing pressure brought to bear on financial institutions too. For example, investors and more particularly insurers, regarding their involvement with energy intensive companies.

Claims may stem from physical damage to infrastructure and property, or from financial damage to share prices and underlying asset prices.

Climate change is now a critical boardroom issue.

Nigel joins us to discuss the key risk factors, from an insurance perspective, and helps to outline some of the opportunities for the industry, around responding to climate change.
