Confession Time | One Equipping Class on The Creeds

Episode 1: Jesus Christ is Lord

To the “Ekklesia” or Christian gatherings all over the world, this is our first class on creeds and confessions. Today, we will talk of the most basic yet the most meaningful of all confessions: “Jesus Christ is Lord.” To not believe and surrender to this is a matter of life and death. There is no middleground.

Episode 54 | Part 2

This is the second and final slice of the message entitled “Deadly Discipleship.” Jesus divides the crowd, the sheep and the goats, by telling them the truth: come, follow and die. He brings them to the cross. And yes, this is discipleship. From the vantage point of Luke 9:23-25, Twister once said that “the cost of discipleship is the disciple’s life. Here, you attend your own funeral.”

What does this mean? Why is Discipleship deemed deadly?

Again, you are listening to Cross Radio. Have a cheerful and Christ-filled day ahead! 😉

As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. - 2 Timothy 4:5 (ESV)

What was the ministry of Timothy that Paul passionately encouraged him to endure to the end? And why is this so important for you and me and our times to really get a grasp of this?

On this episode, brother Jayrelle continues with his exposition of the passage in 2nd Timothy. This is in line with our topics on Postmodernity and the need for the church to radically go back to the Word of God as authority for faith and practice. On this second part, expounding once again on where he took off last time from 2 Timothy 4:1-5, brother Jayrelle will make sure that the call for pastors and churches in expository preaching and listening is clearly addressed.

Part 2

The mark of true Christianity is not the absence of sin, but the presence of sanctification. It is the presence of God in the life of man. And the false gospels cannot manufacture this artificially - both in justification and thus, sanctification.

The Postmodern Gospel, in its distortion of the true gospel, is not powerful enough for the JUSTIFICATION of unworthy sinners who repent and believe. But SALVATION is not just the one at risk, but then, in effect, so is SANCTIFICATION. The Postmodern Gospel cannot manufacture “walking in the Spirit” because it is not of the Spirit.

Today, on our second and final slice of our Postmodern Gospel message, learn more about what it means to be sanctified in and through the gospel’s message of true freedom and the Spirit’s sanctification.

Part 1

“Bride of Christ, I plead with you to keep His message and yourself pure. Stop flirting with the world.”

Now, in the postmodern age, we negotiate with our culture to the extent that we distort our message, and thus, ourselves as His bride. Yes, now, culture is authority and not Scriptures – and this is our downfall. A society rises or falls depending on how they trust and obey the God of the Bible. There is no authority anymore, and Christianity is just one of the religions that may or may not be true but can be helpful to make our lives worth living.

We call such times postmodern. And the postmodern world calls upon its citizens to be like everybody else: a false sense of equality, a compulsion towards entitlements, a gratifying and glorifying of the flesh.

Be scared believers. If you are not standing on the truth of His Word, if you do not obey, be very afraid.

Such a time as this, we go back to the Word and scan with our heads and hearts through the letters of the apostle Paul, specifically in his first Epistle. Galatians is needed more than ever.

Cross Radio Episode 44 | TDN Chapter 7: Jesus

Our Christianity rises or falls on how our lives - our entire beings - are being shaped by this Name: Jesus. Will heaven be heaven without Him? This is why we get these important points: our utmost goal is Jesus; we worship Jesus; we obey Jesus; we trust that what Jesus did and accomplished is enough to rescue us. We fix our eyes on Jesus. We follow and make followers of Jesus Christ. It’s all about Jesus. And “in Him”, I have everything. This is all that matters. Christianity is Christ.

Cross Radio Episode 43 | TDN Chapter 6: The Gospel Today

This may sound like a sweeping declaration, but this is true: Every Church Leadership, Discipleship Organizations and Believers in General should not miss this episode! The Gospel is at stake and everyone should really be serious in, borrowing from Michael Horton’s words, getting the gospel right and getting it out! With these set of questions, we challenge all disciples worldwide to really hold on, hold fast and hold firm to the very message that makes Christianity Christianity.

Before Spurgeon died, he fought what we now know as “The Downgrade Controversy”, where he, with all might, fought a lonesome battle against the secularization of those who claim as God’s bride, and so the distortion of the gospel. He writes -

“No lover of the gospel can conceal from himself the fact that the days are evil. We are willing to make a large discount from our apprehensions on the score of natural timidity, the caution of age, and the weakness produced by pain; but yet our solemn conviction is that things are much worse in many churches than they seem to be, and are rapidly tending downward. Read those newspapers which represent the Broad School of Dissent, and ask yourself, How much farther could they go? What doctrine remains to be abandoned? What other truth to be the object of contempt? A new religion has been initiated, which is no more Christianity than chalk is cheese; and this religion, being destitute of moral honesty, palms itself off as the old faith with slight improvements, and on this plea usurps pulpits which were erected for gospel preaching. The Atonement is scouted, the inspiration of Scripture is derided, the Holy Spirit is degraded into an influence, the punishment of sin is turned into fiction, and the resurrection into a myth, and yet these enemies of our faith expect us to call them brethren, and maintain a confederacy with them!” (Charles Spurgeon, 1887).

Ben Franklin was perceptive and honest when he penned these words:

“There is perhaps no one of our natural passions so hard to subdue as pride. Beat it down, stifle it, mortify it as much as one pleases, it is still alive. Even if I could conceive that I had completely overcome it, I should probably be proud of my humility.”

So why bother pursue humility? Can we really kill it? Being humble seem like a bard, singing a joke on us that we will never, ever experientially understand. Or is it?

The Bible is clear though: when God demands something from us (a command or an instruction), we are sure that His grace has provided power for us to do so. What He demanded from us, He provided for us. This is true in salvation and even in our sanctification. This is no joke.

We have a solution…

Listen and know more about this on our CROSSCAST entry today 😉 #CrossRadioPH

There is a war between God and man. But, through His blood, Jesus alone is sufficient and worthy to reconcile man with God.

Cross Radio Episode 41 | TDN Chapter 5: Jesus is Enough

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. - Romans 3:23-26 (ESV)

Today, we will study deep-sounding words with the purpose of not trying to sound smart but to really plumb into the joyous riches of His Word, enjoying HIS grace and truth. These three words are “JUSTIFICATION”, “REDEMPTION” and “PROPITIATION”. These are essentials in order for us to understand why Jesus is enough and what difference does it make for you and me.

“At the end of the day, we sing this with everything we have: Your blood has washed away my sin Jesus, thank You The Father's wrath completely satisfied Jesus, thank You Once Your enemy, now seated at Your table Jesus, thank You”

Cross Radio Episode 40 | TDN Chapter 4: The Sinfulness of Man

“as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one." "Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive." "The venom of asps is under their lips." "Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness." "Their feet are swift to shed blood; in their paths are ruin and misery, and the way of peace they have not known." “There is no fear of God before their eyes." Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it- the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” - Romans 3:10-23 (ESV)

Cross Radio Episode 39 | TDN Chapter 3: The Holiness of God

“Ignorance of the distinction between the Law and Gospel is one of the principal sources of all abuses which corrupt and still corrupt Christianity.” - Theodore Beza⁣

There is a difference between Law and Gospel. And there’s no other antidote to knowing the distinction than to go back to the holiness of God. When Holiness demands our very lives through the LAW, Holiness itself provided it for us - in Christ. Law is do, do, do. Gospel is “done” - Christ Himself accomplished everything for the salvation of His own. We need to understand the difference. A look on God’s Holiness provides for us answers seeing that we can never Do something to merit His favor because His standards is HOLY HOLY HOLY. We need someone Holy, someone who can represent both God and humanity to save us.

On the third chapter of our DISCIPLE’S NOTEBOOK, we go into the Gospel Primer focusing on God’s holiness. We live in an era when the world has less or no regard to the Holiness of God and abuse or misuse the “Love of God”. That is why we find ourselves distorting the gospel message. That we have fallen short of God’s glorious and holy decrees. It is this very God, with His glorious and holy character who provides a way for us: what He demanded, He Himself provided. Thus, the gospel.

Hell hath no fury than a Christ-built church. ”

“With all that’s happening around the world, we see a very crucial fog that is causing panic in some of the churches globally: will the church services still continue? What if the government will permanently lock us down? What if the church buildings will not be opened? What if no one gives tithes and offerings anymore? What if we can’t fellowship and sing together physically anymore? Are we gonna be under China now? What will the pastors and ministers eat? I have no idea. All I know is that I need to go back to the Bible and see what God has to say. We ask real and honest questions and we go back to the Word of GOD – always – and search for answers from heaven’s publications. What if, what if, what if.”

“In coming to Christ we do not bring our old life up onto a higher plane; we leave it at the cross. The corn of wheat must fall into the ground and die.

We who preach the gospel must not think of ourselves as public relations agents sent to establish good will between Christ and the world. We must not imagine ourselves commissioned to make Christ acceptable to big business, the press, the world of sports or modern education. We are not diplomats but prophets, and our message is not a compromise but an ultimatum.

God offers life, but not an improved old life. The life He offers is life out of death. It stands always on the far side of the cross. Whoever would possess it must pass under the rod. He must repudiate himself and concur in God's just sentence against him.” - A.W Tozer

“If anyone would come after me,” Jesus boldly preached. “Let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23) Following Jesus means taking up my cross daily; and the secret to taking up my cross is counting my “self” as nothing. In the context of the cross, my greatest enemy is my self.

“Theology matters. Proper doctrine is crucial. The Scriptures first and foremost is profitable for doctrine before it can even be practiced or lived out. Proper theology, in truth and in grace, as rooted in the the proper handling of Scriptures, shapes the entirety of a man’s life, making him “complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17). Thus, Jesus was indeed clear when He declared that the Word of God is Truth. And this Truth sanctifies His people (John 17:17). Theology shapes the whole man; Truth is for Life. Your life and influence will very much depend on the very truth you stand on and enjoy. Go back to the Bible and then do not go anywhere else.”

The church is having some difficulty breathing. She is choked by the world thinking that the world is her Lord and Savior: something that Satan has far too long lured her from the very beginning. Satan tried to lure Jesus into kneeling and bowing down to him and promised him the whole world, and Jesus rebuked the devil. How? He held on to the Word. Our Lord knew where the battle lines are drawn. The moment the church bows down to the world, that’s where our downfall begins.

Take time to listen and challenge yourselves to really dig deep into the Word of God and so obey it out of your love for the God of the Word. This is Breathing Lessons - Part 5.

(4/5) Chapters 3 & 4 of Paul’s second epistle to Timothy are the last known chapters that the apostle Paul wrote before he died. In it, we see Paul’s crucial words, given to his disciple Timothy and also echoing towards us who are leaders, pastors, ministers, or simply members in the church. Take note, Paul writes here, that the last days will be marked by a great deluge of worldliness: the people will do everything out of their love for the world and will do almost anything to disregard the Word.

Satan tried to lure Jesus into kneeling and bowing down to him and promised him the whole world, and Jesus rebuked the devil. How? He held on to the Word. Our Lord knew where the battle lines are drawn. The moment the church bows down to the world, that’s where our downfall begins.

(3/5) About to be poured out as a drink offering, Paul shares his final moments writing for his disciple Timothy to come to him. Here, he writes his sharp words, a charge not only to Timothy but to all the ministers and leaders in the church to seriously - preach the Word. While the world is going from bad to worse, Timothy is charged to live a godly life through being serious in living for and equipping the church with His God-breathed Word - not for the entertainment of the goats’ itching ears but to feed Christ’s sheep. Even when everybody would love to be tickled for entertainment, the pastor should know that his primary job is a life-and-death call to rightly divide the Word of Truth as the sanctifying agent of the church and nothing else.

(2/5) Paul understood very well that in ministry, people will desert you and leave you behind because you will have contrasting loves. Today, meet Demas. See how both he and Paul parted ways in one of the most painful of all departures: one left for the world, one for the Word.

This is why Paul longed for Timothy’s companionship and also because he wanted to charge Timothy with something very important, something to warn this young pastor to not go where Demas went, to preach the Word more than anything else - in fashion or out of fashion.

Take time to listen and challenge yourselves to really dig deep into the Word of God and so obey it out of your love for the God of the Word. This is Breathing Lessons - Part 2.

(1/5) We are living in perilous times. In fact, the apostle Paul, on his last letter (his last written words), gave an imagery of what the world will look like “in the last days” (2 Tim.3): it will be times of difficulty (v.1), believers will be persecuted as they choose to live in godliness (v.12) and everyone will go on from bad to worse. What was Paul’s final charge to his beloved disciple and son in the faith? This same charge to Timothy by Paul is the very same charge of God towards His church.

Take time to listen and challenge yourselves to really dig deep into the Word of God and so obey it out of your love for the God of the Word. This is Breathing Lessons - Part 1.

Part 2: “Prayer redounds to God’s glory, for in prayer we do but acknowledge our dependency upon Him.” - A.W Pink, Sovereignty of God

Hey hey! Today’s the second slice of our mini-series about God’s sovereignty and the prayers of His people where we ask this question: what does it mean to say that God is sovereignly in control over everything? Does this mean that God has decreed and over-ruled everything from eternity to eternity? If that’s the case, is prayer still necessary?

Again Cross Radio brings you an imaginative rendering of a scene from Luke 24. (This one’s one of my favorite episodes so far) Let’s journey once more, on the road from Calvary and walk together with these two downtrodden disciples. This may very well be needed today, especially in this season of global pandemic wherein death seems to win. We need once more to remind ourselves what happened two thousand years ago and hold fast to the hope of our lives: that Christ came, Christ died and yes, Christ has risen! Indeed, what’s central to our faith is vital for our lives.

Have a good and godly day!

(2/2) Peace In The Time Of Corona

Yesterday we tackled on the subject of peace, specificaly “peace with God.” Today, we will learn then what we call the “peace of God” and ultimately - the “God of peace”.

(1/2) Peace In The Time Of Corona

• God is not a God of explications; the Bible is not a book of explanations. The Word of God magnifies the God of the Word in His promise-keeping. God is the God of covenantal promise. Living by faith is living by His promises. Here, Jesus gave the promise of “peace”. But He added the kind of peace it would be: not the kind with force-fields and fire-power and heavily guarded by soldiers that are the Earth’s Mightiest. It was not the kind of peace that fiction can simply write about; not even the peace that “the world gives”. Jesus was clear with what He was promising them: “my peace I give to you.” Get a load of this: “My peace”. It was Jesus’ peace. •

(Sorry for the few glitches on the recording. I am also learning why this is happening. As of now, I still don’t know how to fix this. The screeching will end in the middle of the lesson) 😅

Today, on our third and final slice of our exposition of Romans 8:28, we ‘ll understand what the Word of God meant when the author said “good”. Is the Global Pandemic - CoVid-19 - part of all things? What’s the ultimate “good” by the way?

Is there purpose in suffering? Do we find life’s meaning in the tortures and pain we experience?

I know, everyone wants to ease the burdens of life especially in what’s happening all around us. We always want what’s positive, sometimes at the expense of truth! However, we may be missing what God wants us to learn if we go back to our own self-centeredness and self-preservations because we tightly cling on to what’s vain and self-promoting. Pain might share a lot - the truth that life is not about us. But, it’s meaning goes deeper because yes, we would rather face the harsh truth than comfort ourselves with self-preserving lies.

I invite you all to take a look at your life and see it from the perspective of pain and suffering. This is not masochism coated with cool verbiage. This is looking at the cross and seeing that suffering is at the heart of our faith. Is there any sense in all of these? Maybe, maybe, we’ll find deep joy and meaning inside the vortex of life’s deep ache. What can agony teach us? Maybe, maybe, we’ll learn much from misery than luxury, from pain than in prosperity. Sit back, relax and listen intently to our session today as we tackle “Meaningful Senselessness.”

Have we lost that sense of awe and wonder, that childlike response to God’s magical mysteries? Are we too desensitized with what’s amazing that, like Dodong in the writeup, we are not startled anymore by God’s grace because we are too used to seeing parts of it? As Big as Buses is a refreshing facewash, a wake-up call from what we think we know, but failed to be enamoured at. We need once more to be astonished not by what God can give nor what He calls us to be, not even the wonderful things He has created in front of us. We need to be amazed once more with who He is.

Today we’ll see that there’s a big difference between asking God to show us something glorious and asking Him to show us His glory.

If my deepest desire is to know God, then being still is necessary. I need to be still in waiting, pray without ceasing, patient for Him as He works everything in me and through me, and bring that spirit of waiting wherever I am, in whatever situation I am in or whoever I meet. Waiting on God is knowing that God is God and His timeline – fast or slow – is never one second late. I need to – whether easy or hard – surrender to His time plans. “Be still my soul, be still.”

Fact-Faith-Feelings.

Simple right? Well, a simple slogan such as this can be so heavy and hard to apply because, yes, we tend to obey emotions rather than truth. Or simply put: we disarrange the order by feelings first and making these emotional hypes as the basis of our realities. On the fist part of our “Chaotic Peace” segment, we’ve learned about plain facts: the smaller chunk (the world and all the data within) and the fuller picture (the Word of God). On our the second slice today, we end our two-part session entitled “Chaotic Peace,” with what faith is after we have gathered the facts, and what entails afterwards. Coming from the Christian point of view, we see now the pandemic through the lens of faith, rooted in the Truths of Scriptures, and then we move to feelings. To disarrange the order might cause spiritual and eternal pandemonium. (Connect with me through email: twisterjover@gmail.com)

March 24, 2020 | Global Pandemic is still “on” but faith is not “off”. This is the first slice of our two-part session entitled “Chaotic Peace,” where we tackle about True Faith in this world of Fake News. Why is this important? Because fake news, as it is rooted in lies (not truth), becomes more deadly than the virus as it leads to pandemonium, unhealthy panic and ultimately death. This draws us to the Truth and why this Podcast is all about the Christocentric Word shared to this Christo-needing world.

March 23, 2020 | During our first episode, we talked about the Content of the Gospel - the glad tidings about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and how this message is “of first importance”. Paul clearly proclaimed the truth that he was not ashamed of this message, although this is foolishnss to the Greeks or a stumbling block to Jews. We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Part-2 talks about the “context of the gospel” (The Gospel Primer and the Gospel Proper) giving us a clarified understanding why the gospel is of first importance and in understanding it would clarify our vision on how to share and enjoy it! Solus Christos 😊

March 22, 2020 | We’ll begin with the end: our first podcast episode is about the message we need to hear as the world is ending! Alright, it’s not yet ending. I have no prophetic or apostolic authority to claim such! However, we always live in the history wherein the God over it all is pointing us to a spirit of urgency: we are always on the brink of time’s precipice. There is a sense of eternity awaiting for us and before we drop towards it, we need to hear this message, receive this by faith and share this to others! However, what is this message? Do listen 😊
