When we released his EP Eternal Waves earlier this year on our sublabel OOSSHA our press text wrote "Nijmegen based @lucadellorso found some sort of time machine that brought him back to the days of Disco Magic and Il Discotto; a time where wobbly synths, heart felt handclaps and sweet melodies filled the air". Well, listen closely to this lovely mix with an hour full of gems by the man himself.

For the 30th anniversary we've asked our good friends SHMLSS to do the honour to provide a special edition of our SoHaSo podcast series. The duo’s name has been heard more and more in the last couple of years, echoing through the city of Amsterdam, Holland and beyond. The guys connected through their love for Disco music but their productions and mixes show their ability to effortlessly blend their roots with genres like Africa beats, Ambient and Industrial House grooves. Besides collecting and playing records they’re also running a vinyl only label called ‘XXX’.
This podcast perfectly showcases their ability to morph from one style to the next. Starting out with crickets, drum playing and otherworldly chords and melodies, they then take it back to 80’s DX7’s and gated reverb snares before injecting more modern sounds and repeating the circle all over. Along the way music both old and anew is used to provide an essential listen, a compelling journey through their inspirations. Enjoy!

For the 29th edition of our SoHaSo podcast series we've invited Fader From Borneo, you might know him from his remix for Nuno dos Santos' track 'Storm Inside' which got released on last years' Trignometry Of Love Remix EP. But of course that's only the tip of the iceberg, as an owner of his Borneo records he releases everything from house to italo by artists such as Professor Genius, Asan, Sir Stephen and himself. Besides this he hosts his 'Greeting From Borneo' radio show on Red Light Radio and is a regular guest at the Operator radio station from Rotterdam.
This podcast hits you in the guts by starting off with some old school hard hitting electro but eases the pain soon after with some ethereal sounds and synthesized pan flutes. It continues the journey with an array of sounds that could be thought of as electronic music, as interpreted by a tribe from a deserted island somewhere along the Asian coast. Enjoy the waves!

We enter the fresh year of 2018 with a new edition in our SoHaSo podcast series, this time inviting Dutch prodigy Bas Dobbelaer. Bas isn’t new to the scene but has been steadily working away on a characteristic sound and finding his own grooves to play, which is now definitely paying off. Bas sets out to find a special sentiment in his sets that fits that particular moment, alway trying to tell a story within his selected records. Those contain broken beats and odd time signatures all the way to trippier dance floor belters, but most of the records in his collection can be described as ‘rhythmic and atmospheric’.
Bas Dobbelaer has created just such a mix for us that fits his trademark style. Starting out with something that sounds like a field recording from a train station, the rhythmic patterns slowly emerge while ambient synth swirls fill the environment. Steadily drawing the listener in with more impactful, trippy and minimal beats. The first half of the mix sounds like it could be best experienced on one of those train rides where endless fields quickly appear and dissolve in the distance, away from your window seat. Don’t let it soothe you too much though, the tempo and intensity are picked up in the second half before softening the landing right before arriving. Wherever you are listening, we hope you can enjoy it just as much as that train ride!

After our 25th anniversary edition we have the invited the lovely Sevensol for the new addition to our next run of SoHaSo podcasts. We had the honour of seeing Sevensol play at our hosting at Paradigm Festival last summer as part of his Manamana outfit together with Jan Barich aka Map.ache. Together with Dennis Knoof (Bender) they also run the incredible KANN Records label, which has a low output high quality approach to everything they do. Techno, down-tempo music, soulful and trippy all fit the description but their sound is surely placed in a garden they have grown themselves. The originators behind the label had very different upbringings but in the label they combine their interest and create a common ground in the love for (diverse) music.
The mix Sevensol has created for us is a nice blend of some of the sounds that can be found on the KANN label. Exposing the deeper and trippier side of the spectrum, not only transitioning from one big climax to the next. We certainly appreciate this breath of fresh air in the sometimes overly pumped up music side of things nowadays. We hope you can enjoy it just as much!

Time flies, we’ve arrived at our 25th SoHaSo podcast! The latest in our podcast series is a very special anniversary edition by none other than great dj and friend Melon! Melon is a natural all round artist, a DJ’s DJ who has managed to gain residencies and regular bookings at some of the finest clubs around the globe - purely by being great at spinning records. His awesome record collection, spanning three decades of dance music, is the base for a unique sound that is always a few steps ahead of the game. Timeless, muscular house in all its glory and variety which could be regularly witnessed at his monthly residency at Trouw. Not your average human being. Something that becomes obvious the second he enters the room – a beaming, larger than life personality that cannot possibly be ignored, with releases & remixes on top notch labels such as Innervisions, Rekids, Rush Hour & his own imprint Ratio? music.
After this summer’s festival Melon has decided to step away from performing for a while, in his own words ‘Music will always be my passion & records will be made (new material is on its way) but todays DJ culture doesn't feed my creativity as it used to...time to change the game!’. That’s why we feel even more honoured to have him onboard for our podcast series with an edition extraordinaire. A three hour journey from start to finish that touches upon everything from slow house music to fierce disco, from Rene & Angela to Arthur Russell. It really showcases Melon’ talent and keen talent to put together a personal journey through different records.

We continue our journey in the SoHaSo podcast series with a fresh addition delivered by our Munich friend Niclas Gillich, also known as Samsa. Even though at the of 23 he is still quite a new face in the scene, he has been appearing more and more lately with regular appearances at MMA (Mixed Munich Arts) and gigs throughout Europe. Samsa is also involved behind the scenes, as a founder of the South German event series ÆTHER and co-organizer and resident of the upcoming Farrago Festival. A festival that offers an intimate celebration of electronic music at a stunning Bavarian castle located in the lush green folds of South Germany, combined with a very tasty line-up.
His taste in music can be described as eclectic, which can definitely be heard in this SoHaSo podcast, and has evolved from a young age throughout his experience as a musician. Having played multiple instruments before getting in touch with the electronic sound worlds that further paved the way for his development. All his experience is now channelled through his main moniker Samsa, which is focussed mainly on the deep, driving and atmospheric spectrum of the dance floor. An hypnotising introduction by Sei A functions as the catalyst of this sonic journey, slowly engulfing the listener in a womb like state filled with heartfelt melodies. Diverging from here, Samsa slowly introduces more and more rhythmic elements but keeps the hypnotising undertone to further suck the listener in. Building the energy until about halfway through a definite switch is made to driving cosmic music, resulting in a sonic excursion that’s worth repeating…

A fresh new chapter in our SoHaSo podcast series, delivered by Dutch rising talent Gijs Voesten, also known as Lucky Done Gone. His name has been circulating more and more through the electronic music scene, with regular appearances at Red Light Radio and festivals like Sziget, Mysteryland, DGTL, Straf_werk and others.
The Dutchman has an interest in a broad range of sounds and tries to tell a personal story with his sets, creating intense journeys that range from Chicago to Detroit, from the UK to the Berlin sound. This can all be clearly heard in his latest podcast for SoHaSo, sharing a similarly diverse audio spectrum. The podcast starts off with a gentle touch, ambient sounds from the rainforest, deep shaman drums and birdsong all enter the sound stage to get you in a state of trance. Jazz drum cymbals, strumming wobbly guitars and synths soften the landing before diving back in with some new age inspired synthapella’s that lead into the first drumbeats fifteen minutes into the set. Continuing the journey, everything from African percussion lines to 80’s fm synth bell melodies and TR-707 grooves are combined, resulting in a myriad of warm and soulful sounds.

The latest chapter in our SoHaSo podcast series is created by the eminent Belgion-born & Berlin-based Locked Groove. The ever shifting landscape of techno and house has been a fertile ground for this talented producer, having released his hypnotic work-outs on labels such as Afterlife, Hotflush, Permanent Vacation, his eponymous label Locked Groove records, Speicher and Turbo Recordings. We personally know him for his track ‘Namibia’ on our SOMEWHERE II compilation, as well as hi latest rework of Presk’s 2BXPRZD which was released on a collaborative EP between SoHaS and Mary Go Wild. Both of which we love!
Both his productions and dj sets share the effortless luster of classic Chicago anthems and the eerie qualities of raw industrial jams. This crossover complexion showcases a bold vision that separates him from the tropes with an uncompromising influence. You can very much hear this in his SoHaSo podcast which doesn’t beat around the bush.. Starting out with some percussion grooves before diving in a raw techno-influenced tour de force that smashes you in the most positive way.

The 21th episode in our SoHaSo podcast series is marked by one of the illuminating figures within London’s underground Electronic Scene: Scott Fraser. Producing his own music since the 90’s with his Bios project and nowadays under his own name and a string of monikers, running the Crimes of The Future label with Timothy J Fairplay, releasing music by Black Merlin, Perseus Traxx and others, alongside it’s similarly named club night in Glasgow, his monthly Body Hammer party he co-runs in London with Joe hart and his own DX Recordings imprint. We know him for his Dark Matter Reconstruction of Sigward’s MX86 which was released on SoHaSo’s Black Mambo EP and is still one of our personal favourites. His own sound is constantly exploring the more offbeat edges of electronic dance music and is inspired by the sounds coming from Chicago and Detroit and a live and hands-on approach to making music.
All of this can be heard in his SoHaSo podcast which gets a short introduction by an electronic text to speech representative before diving straight into jacking grooves and saturated 808 beats full of funk. The mix shares the same live feeling he uses in his productions and provides a refreshing journey for your eardrums.

Our fist SoHaSo podcast of the year is something truly special. It’s brought to you by the mastermind behind our latest release and the track Europa on the SOMEWHERE compilation, it’s the work of Quince. Listening to his Rif EP you might have expected something completely different for this podcast, but it’s a sign of the broad range of sounds that influence Quince to produce his own signature sonics. Aptly titled ‘Quince’s West African Psychedelic Funk Show’, it’s an hour long blend of Fela inspired grooves, backed by hypnotising keys, phasing synths and blazing horns. We certainly have transported to a warm and sweaty place somewhere far away from the cold outside our office, which is a very welcome addition and it might do just the same for you… Enjoy!

As the leaves are slowly turning yellow, the temperature is dropping and the layer of cloths is thickening we are happy to present a new SoHaSo podcast by our good friend KAAP which suits perfect for a headphone stroll trough the autumn forest. KAAP is known as the head honcho of his own tape label Yield, which has put forth some quality releases by the likes of Central and Dj Sports besides being a playground for his own musical experimentations in the lab. His lab is filled to the brim with analog gear that smells like the dusty and grainy sounds you can find in his own productions. Old drum computers, tape machines/echo's and quirky little synths all add to the vibe and and raw airwaves that are produced by his space ship.
KAAP has also been a part of our early SoHaSo label nights at the now legendary defunct club Trouw and he might even make an appearance on a future release (hint). This podcast oozes with character, firing off with dub and ambient vibes before picking up the pace with more compelling grooves, speeding up along the electro highway heading down the rabbit hole. The perfect antidote or amplifier, depending on you're approach, for those rainy November afternoons.

Summer is slowly closing it's wings on us, and we're moving from the festivals and time spent outside inwardly for introspection. We couldn't be happier to present a musical journey by Stefan Vincent that fits right into this change of moods. Stefan Vincent is known by his quality output on labels like Dynamic Reflections, Stockholm LTD and became an even closer friend with his track 'How It Could've Been' on our SOMEWHERE sampler and compilation. Although Stefan Vincent is known for his driving and melodic 'techno' productions, this is far from your average club music podcast. It's an emotional journey from start to finish, with acoustic soundwaves that hit you right in the chest. Starting out with some soothing Boards of Canada's pads, moving into string work by Arvo Pärt, Colin Stetson and music from the film Under The Skin by composer Mica Levi, you can feel something hauntingly beautiful beneath the surface. In his own words it’s ’a selection of music I listen to at home, to get inspired or just because I feel like it, music with different colours and textures.' It's something that deserves attention, and we think is worth listening to from start to finish preferably on your own in a place where you can close your eyes...

Last year has been a truly wonderful and fruitful trip, and we’re looking forward to see what this new year will bring us. Island Kizhi is a French kid exiled in Amsterdam, as the title of his track on our SOMEWHERE compilation might suggest a ‘Lone Boy’.
