Wake Forest Women’s Soccer Head Coach Tony da Luz might be the most interesting man in Deactown. In his 28th season guiding the Demon Deacons, he’s amassed more than 300 wins & collected 11 wins over top-5 teams, including 2 this season! But it’s the path da Luz charted from the west coast to the east coast that might draw the most unique fascination.
From aiding in missile building after staring at San Diego (yes, really), to moonlighting in construction while guiding a first-time Toreros women’s program, da Luz & family have carved out a home in Winston-Salem. He’s established Wake Forest as an annual player in the ACC race and has remained energized throughout the everchanging landscape of intercollegiate athletics. And maybe more than ever since his arrival in 1997, the Deacs are a legitimate national championship contender in 2024. Listen to da Luz’s story as he details his past and the current installment of Wake Forest women on the pitch that aim for a return to the Women’s College Cup.

After 15 seasons as a player professionally in 3 countries, and roughly 25 more years as a coach, Harrison's unique perspective & experience provides substantial value to the Thunderbirds production & development on the ice, yes, but his authenticity & personality are what fans should be equally excited about.

After starring at Gardner-Webb for 4 seasons, Lauren Bevis has decided to play her graduate season at High Point University. The Preseason Big South Player of the Year is no stranger to the league, nor the area. Bevis played for the Winston-Salem Stealers while being home schooled throughout her high school career in the Triad. It was one specific influence within the AAU powerhouse that helped land her on the radar of the Runnin’ Bulldogs. And now, Bevis has an opportunity to play her home games somewhere that resonates so much with her own roots, and more importantly, at a critical time in her & her family's life.
Follow along as Bevis explains her decision to transfer to High Point, how she believes her game will translate at HPU, her practice habits, the instinctive leadership qualities she possesses, her goals beyond basketball, and what most drives her commitment to life and basketball.

It may be fall, but winter is arriving sooner than expected in the real estate market. Blake Ginther from The Ginther Group in Winston-Salem is here to explain why the cold weather trends are happening sooner than usual. But it's not necessarily bad news for the housing market consumer. If you're a seller, prices aren't going down... just sales volume. So, just adjust your expectations from an offer perspective or what you might have to do to prepare your home to hit the market. And if you're a buyer, there's less competition out there. Act now before it comes back in the spring!

It's our local music podcast!
Joseph (Zack) Brewer is the owner/founder/operator/booker of Key City Sessions, a concert series in Wilkesboro NC. We talk about the sessions, religion, condemnation of artists, and more.
Written by J. Zachary Brewer: " I started Key City Sessions in July of 2019 in an apartment I shared at the time with my brother, David, at Key City Condos in North Wilkesboro. Pennsylvania-based songwriter, Alyssa Hankey, and I got in touch over Instagram, and she hadn’t found a good NC venue on her tour. After reaching out to 2 or 3 spots for her to no avail, I decided to use my apartment for my first show in July 2019. The name Key City comes from the old furniture factory that used to be in our area, one of their buildings of which was renovated into condominiums and ultimately my first home. Ultimately, I had a kind HOA who very nicely and appropriately told me it probably wasn’t the best idea to be doing monthly shows in my living quarters. After 5 shows in 2019, Key City Sessions was put on a temporary hold save for 2 events at the homes of some kind friends and concertgoers - Gerianne Hannibal and Anne Showalter - February and July 2020 respectively. Producing and tailoring events to fit my vision of what an intimate, fun, and social concert should be was too important for me to stop in its tracks. I was blessed to find the historic home of Judge Johnson J. Hayes in downtown Wilkesboro was up for sale, and quickly moved on the opportunity in the spring of 2020 after running into options that were not near as promising. The flowing rooms, ample concert space, extra bedrooms for housing touring artists, history (you can find 100-year-old court documents framed on various walls), and prime location downtown fit exactly into the mold of what I needed to continue doing for my community and artists. Living in semi-rural Appalachia where music events, especially diverse ones, are not as common as in the city, it’s crucial for me to provide something unique for those in my area, some of whom may not have the opportunity to experience it otherwise. My shows are donation-based, and I hope to always keep it that way. My doors are always open for good people wanting to get away from their work week and enjoy a night of positive music and for musicians in need of respite. With concerts goers from NC to Virginia and Texas, and musicians from Nashville, Sweden, Israel and beyond, I hope people from around the country and world continue to gather under one roof for a common purpose of enjoying one another’s presence. I give a sincere thanks to those who have helped me in various ways for my concert series, including all of the amazing artists who have performed and continue to do so here at Key City Sessions."

'Play hard, play smart, concentrate.' Head Coach Brian Robinson's message to the Lady Villains recently netted the Bishop McGuinness girls basketball team their 11th state championship under his reign. The culture Robinson has established since his arrival in Kernersville is supremely unique, hence the unprecedented success his teams have experienced since 2002. It's a career arc that he never envisioned, and one that carried extreme doubt before he ultimately took the job at the small Catholic school. Now, Robinson's approach and love for the game of girls basketball has reverberated nationally as he tirelessly works to enhance the product. Robinson isn't in it for the acclaim or accolades though, and his humility shines as brightly as the smiles on the faces of those who play for him. Listen as Robinson explains the motivation behind building & continuing the winning tradition at Bishop McGuinness, plus, how the people in his own circle continue to drive his passion.

In this podcast, we discuss issues surrounding race and the experiences of people of color in the opera world. Our two guests are Marsha Thompson and The Reverend Kenneth A. Pettigrew
Ms. Thompson began her musical studies as a violinist. During her time as a violinist, she played in regional symphony orchestras in Louisiana and Texas including, Galveston Symphony, The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra, Southeast Louisiana Symphony and Texas Music Festival Symphony Orchestra. Ms.Thompson decided to sing full-time after receiving a full scholarship to the prestigious Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, CA to study with Marilyn Horne.
Since then, she has sung the roles of Tosca, AIDA, Abigaille, Sieglinde, Violetta, and several other leading ladies. The New York Times describes her voice in the role of Violetta as “a warm agile soprano with a secure technique,” Opera News stated of her “Pace, pace, mio Dio” that “[she sang] with a cascade of refined yet plush Italianate sound; …an expertly introspective performance.” Ms. Thompson has performed with Teatro Municipal de São Paulo, Union Avenue Opera, New York City Opera, New York Grand Opera, Opera Carolina, and Mississippi Opera, to name a few.

A 4-star student-athlete, a 4.0 GPA, the love from his family, and his strong faith are among the key ingredients that make Sam Pendleton a perfect fit for Notre Dame. But then there's his robust size, his insane quickness at the line of scrimmage, the mauling power, and ferociousness to create space for running backs or allow time for the quarterback. The Fighting Irish have a history of churning out some of the most elite offensive lineman, both on and off the field, and Sam's commitment ensures he's among the next in line to don the navy blue and gold.
Listen to the story of Sam Pendleton, as he tells it: The April 25th decision, how late it was that Notre Dame came into the fold, the deep connection with his lead recruiter, how a Pfafftown boy plans to transition to South Bend, and how Sam intends to continue to build upon his strengths and chisel away at his weaknesses between now and 2023.

The best college basketball coach in North Carolina you HAVEN’T heard of is Matt Ridge. Ridge has built the men’s basketball program at Davidson-Davie Community College from scratch, and it’s been a winning recipe from the very beginning. The Storm have won close to 83-percent of their games under the direction of Ridge, including winning 12 conference titles, 5 Region X Tournament Championships, and securing 5 National Tournament appearances. Fast forward 14 years, and Ridge has DDCC primed to make another deep postseason run, and just maybe, win it all.
