When should you change your carry ammo? Is it necessary? Will carry ammo go bad? What could make it go bad?
Be the leader now so that you can learn to be better if you ever have to defend yourself or your family.
Like every skill you have for self-defense, de-escalation should be practiced any time you can.
How skilled are you with your EDC? Are you skilled enough? Do those skills matter?
You’ve seen all the pocket dumps. I’m sure you have argued and heard the arguments of what gun is better to carry and why. Whether it’s for the zombie attack or to carry every day. We argue about gear all the time. Then, sometimes, we talk about skills with that gear.
I’m here to tell you that tactics are more important than the gear and the skill you have with the gear. Your understanding of what is going on and your move toward what you want to happen is your tactics.
A definition of gear is obvious, it’s the stuff you have. The definition of skill is how you can use that gear. Your tactics are the overall mindset and how to employ your skills towards a goal. It’s just bigger thinking.
The first part of being better at tactics is defining a mission. Think strategically now, because when someone is trying to kill you it’s hard to think about anything else besides surviving and panic.
Decide what you will and will not do to further that mission. Some hard questions to ask yourself are will you pass an injured kid to stop a killer or evacuate your family? What about a kid you know that is calling your name for help? To even the toughest warrior, that is a hard question. Answer them now so later you don’t have to stop in the heat of the moment and make a decision.
Part of defining your mission is knowing your priorities of work. Those priorities becomes your SOP (Standard Operating Procedure). Mine are, in this order, on purpose, my wife, my kid, myself, other people in my charge, extended family members, kids, and other people when I can.
If you look at my priorities of work; mall shooting with my family at my side, you are on your own. A school shooting with my kid in a class room, everyone else is on their own. I’ll help if I can, but my kid comes first.
Part of my priorities of work is also my mission parameters; 1 – I have to be able to look myself in the mirror every day no matter what I do or don’t do. 2 – My family has to survive, then me. 3 – Is the United States’ “Justice System.” I’ll deal with life in that order.
So if it is a school shooting and my kid is in there, law enforcement better have a good plan and be executing it when get there or I will. I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t do something when no one else was and my kid didn’t survive.
When you start thinking at the upper level everything just starts falling into place. In any situation, I will figure out my mission very quickly by going t hrough my mission parameters and priorities of work.
If you do the “what-if” game when you see things in the news and go through your priorities of work and mission parameters you will figure out what your mission is and how to execute it.
If you need a quick reference the Marine Corps provides the acronym DrawD or what the enemy can do in the defense; Defend, Retreat, Attack, Withdraw, and Delay. If something happens in the “real world” you are in the defense and you can choose one of the five.
Whatever you chose, do it, and do it well. Your life depends on it. These quick thoughts are the beginning of tactics.
Stay Safe,
Ben
Everyone seems to be catching up to me lately… and it sucks.
I spent 10 years in the Marine Corps including a combat tour and being part of an anti-terrorism force. I left the Marine Corps to return to Iraq as a private contractor for the U.S. Government fighting terrorism. I gave a large portion of my adult life to fighting terrorism and the horrors that most people don’t want to deal with. To me, a terrorist is about the lowest scum on earth.
Then in 2008, I was called a terrorist for the first time by then-President Obama. The term domestic terrorist had just started and I was on the list. Being a white male, military-aged, former military, contractor, Christian, and gun owner I was on the top of the list. Everyone thought I was crazy for saying the United States Government could do such a thing. The truth is they have been doing it for a long time. Welcome to the party!
Through the years it has only gotten worse. I know I’m on every watch list the government has which makes me both sad and proud. Yes, I will associate with the deplorable’s, that is almost half the country. Yes, I cling to my religion and my guns. Yes, I’m proud to be an American. Yes, I think our government f’s things up a lot. At least I’m not on the no-fly list… yet.
All of these lists that you don’t know you are on, how you got there, or how to get off are a threat to every free person in the world. And I don’t know how to fix it.
It is not time to fight the great boogaloo (which is now a terrorist word as indicated by a leaked FBI memo). I’m trying to get more involved at my local political level because I know local politicians grow up to be state and federal politicians.
This blog is about self-defense. So you might ask how all that plays into your self-defense. Well, the “Justice System” hasn’t been not been impartial for a long time, it has gotten worse. If the “they” of the world think you are on the wrong side it appears unlikely you will get a fair trial.
Do you remember the Austin protester during a BLM protest that was carrying an AK openly and gave a weird interview with his rifle right before the shooting? Then an Army Sergeant driving for Uber, carrying a concealed handgun with a license smoked him after ending up in the crowd by mistake. The Army Sergeant got convicted of Murder early this year over three years after the shooting.
I’ve known since I was a teenager that the deck was stacked against me if I have to use deadly force. It was what I was taught in Law Enforcement and it didn’t take much research at the time to see that if the U.S. Government wanted you, they were going to convict you.
So, you are out there, just trying to protect yourself. Take extra care in what you do. Be more mindful to stay out of places that might put you and your family in danger. Be more careful about where you insert yourself into other people’s problems. And be more careful about who you argue with. All of this could end you up in prison for the rest of your life… and is more likely to happen now than it was five years ago.
In conclusion, welcome to this shitty party that somehow we all ended up in.
Stay Safe,
Ben
If you have to defend yourself should you give medical aid to the person that just tried to hurt you?
What training scars and bad habits do you have that will "get you killed in the street?"
I know you have at least one, we all do.
If you get caught in the aftermath of a mass shooter what should you do? Yes, mass killer would be a better description now that vehicles and knives are becoming popular.
Traditional knowledge of self-defense says you should be changing your schedule for your safety; but doesn’t it really help that much?
Do you ever just go shooting for fun? Or is there always something to learn? There is always something to learn, but you can go shooting for fun.
This podcast is all about different things. It will be explicit because the NRA really enraged me with their cancellation of the Annual Meeting.
We can't always carry a gun in a conventional method, sometimes you have to learn unconventional carry methods to be able to carry a gun every day.
Having a plan for your self defense begins with what is your mission? What are those things most important to you?
How you can measure risk better, why we suck at it, and how to do it better.
I spent the last couple of weeks in California, mostly Yosemite National Park. It was amazing! One of the most beautiful places on earth. Go if you ever get the chance. I would say it is worth the risk of going to California and going unarmed.
While I was there with my family, we stopped to play some games in the Guest Lodge because it was raining. There was a lady with two young boys, probably 5 and 7. The kids were wearing masks, but she wasn't.
During our game, I had moved around the table towards the side of her boys. She asked me to move because I wasn't six feet away and her kids were not vaccinated yet. I did so because I was on vacation and not there to start an argument. My wife was proud of me for keeping my mouth shut and just moving.
But it reminded me, most people, including professionals, suck at measuring risk. Let's break down a simple risk calculation for her kids dying in Yosemite versus from Covid.
There have been 126 deaths in Yosemite national part over the last 10 years according to Outforia and an article about deaths in national parks. And, about 4.5 Million people visit per year according to Statista.com.
I couldn't find actual COVID numbers for kids' deaths in America, so I used the Texas numbers to get an equivalent. In Texas, there have been 20 kids 9 and younger that have died from/with COVID (not sure how to say that right now). The population of Texas is about 29.2 Million.
If we break those numbers down to look side by side you get:
When you break it down, being in Yosemite was way more dangerous than getting COVID and dying.
As a contractor, I was in charge of base security at a large FOB (Forward Operating Base) in Iraq. The base commander wanted me to make sure no one ever got hurt on his base. I tried explaining to him that I could simply mitigate the risks from outside the wire but I couldn't stop everything. Someone will fall out of their rack or worse, and what did happen, a soldier committed suicide on the base right after I left. It was horrific, but it was something I couldn’t stop or even begin to work on as a security specialist focused on the threats from the outside.
At your home, work, and when you travel, you should be looking to mitigate the most dangerous potential risks. You have to weigh the risks of something happening versus something that you know and understand.
I just got back. California is not friendly towards guns. I decided the risk was higher of a police officer messing with me over having to use my firearm to save myself or my family. And, as I was hiking through the backcountry I wished I had my gun in case I ran into a bear. The risk of being attacked by a bear in Yosemite is almost zero as long as you don’t try and feed them, or mess with a mothers’ cubs. Doing those two things is the best way to mitigate my risk of a bear attacking me while out on some back-country trail in Yosemite. Yes, that danger is different in other parts of the country.
As I implied earlier, there is not a zero chance of being attacked by a bear, but an almost zero chance. I could still come across a starving animal, or cross a trail at the wrong moment right after her cubs crossed but before the mother did.
Everything in life has a risk. Getting out of bed, or not getting out of bed has a risk of death. There have been car crashes and even plane crashes that hit the house where someone was sleeping and killed them in their own bed. Life happens.
We have to be able to judge risk on an intellectual scale, not our feelings. A bear is scary as shit! I’ve been chased by one back when I was a teenager. Scariest moment of my life. But the reality is, the roads in and out of Yosemite are tight winding and on the side of a cliff most of the time. The chance of dying on the road in and out of the park has to be close to a hundred times mor...

I had to change a couple things because of my carry method didn’t work with the left hand not working.

We all know problem #1 is surviving your self defense encounter. Problem #2 is generally considered the court battle. But really that is problem #3. You have to be able to live with yourself after the fact.
It’s not always what we did, but also what we didn’t do, or how things could have gone wrong that can really haunt us. It’s not a win if you survive your encounter, and then the court battle only to lose yourself years later by self-medication or worse. You have to be able to live with yourself and what happened.

This FMF is all about thinking outside the box. Use things around you to improve your self defense. Everything has multiple uses and that includes for self defense.
We talk all about awareness for self defense; how can you measure it and how can you improve it. I ask you some simple questions to gauge where you are in your awareness skills and then give you 3 simple things to work on and 2 advanced tactics to help you take your self defense awareness to the next level.
Review of the CZ Scorpion Evo and how it could fit your self defense needs when carried in a bag.
Today is all about Minute of Angle v Minute of Man, why one matters, and one doesn’t. Which one you should work on, and which one you should ignore for self defense. And it’s all about knowing yourself and your gear. That is the only thing that will count if you ever have to use your firearm in self defense.
Having a security mindset can keep you safe before you have to use any other self defense technique. Setting up your life so you don’t have an actual confrontation that puts you, your family, or your home in jeopardy is the best way to defend yourself.
Why a pistol caliber and what a bag gun would be used for. What to look for In a bag gun, and 3 reviews Ruger PPC, Scorpion Evo, and Sig MPX
Do you have rights, legal or otherwise during a lethal encounter? Should you? How can you create, demand, or gain those rights?
This podcast is more on how you think about things when you are in an armed conflict. If someone is trying to kill you, or threatening to kill you, what should you be thinking about so you can save your life. Rights during an armed conflict are an academic conversation that has no place when some monster is trying to kill you or your family.
Today: I got the chance to shoot the M&P and Sig with different slide mounted dot sites on each side by side to do a comparison. I still want a pistol with a dot, just not sure which direction I should go.
I really like the Sig and the M&P. I’ve been carrying the M&P9 for about 5 years now and really like it. Smith is trying to update the platform but not doing it fast enough to keep up with the market at this point. They should be out with all the Red dots on top of them, but they are not yet. I think it’s a marketing ploy that they are waiting to introduce the M&P 2.0 with slide mounted dot.
The only thing keeping me from switching to the Sig 320 is money. It’s an incredible amount of money to switch platforms, holsters, magazines, training time, back up gun, and the like make the endeavor way more than just buying a pistol and switching.
Here’s what I found shooting them side by side:

This is a Truck Talk Tuesday all about traveling and your self defense. I give what I’ve actually been doing the last couple months traveling for work and vacation. You will learn tricks and tips that will help you stay safe while you and your family travel.
What's new from SHOT Show 2019 that you might be interested in, firearms, self defense guns, gear, and more.
Can you spot a predator before you become their prey? We go through one of the greatest books about self defense in our modern world. In my library there are only 3 books you need to read and re-read, this is one of them.
In Dangerous Personalities, former FBI profiler Joe Navarro shows readers how to identify the four most common "dangerous personalities" and analyze how much of a threat each one can be.
“…you can’t even break a rule, how would you be expected to break bone?” – Khan to Spock. Can you break society's norms under the gravest extreme?
Combat Accuracy is a term I like to use for having effects on target. To me, it needs to be good enough to win the fight. Combat Accuracy is a term people are picking up to mean, it’s good enough for now, or that means someone can’t shoot so they say I’m combat accurate. It’s all BS.
Friendly fire is just as dangerous as enemy fire. They will both kill you dead. Bullets don’t care, so friendly fire isn’t friendly when it’s coming towards you. How can we avoid giving it? How can we avoid taking it? What can you do to make yourself safer from another good guy?

Today: This is a Truck Talk Tuesday, just a discussion with you and me in a long drive. Talking guns, gear, and mindset. Continuing our mindset discussion from last Truck Talk, we talk today about never giving up. The military taught me this after I already knew it. Adapt, improvise, overcome was the saying of the Marine Corps when I joined. I simplified that to Winston Churchill’s easy saying, Never Give Up, Never Give Up, Never Give Up.
Once you start, just keep going and you’ll win sooner or later. The bad guy will make a mistake, just give up, or give you the opportunity to escape. Keep pushing forward. If you know anything, can hear anything, you aren’t dead yet. Keep going. Never Give Up!

Today: This is a Truck Talk Tuesday, just a discussion with you and me in a long drive. Talking guns, gear, and mindset. Continuing our mindset discussion from last Truck Talk, we talk today about evil walking among us. It’s the one thing police officers understand that must other people don’t. The worst of the worst walk among us in our everyday life. That “three time looser” is in the convience store line right behind you along with the guy that just got out of prison for raping and killing someone. That’s not to mention the ones that haven’t been caught yet.
You need to understand that these people are out there, and you actually interact with some every day. As long as you aren’t chosen as their victim you will never know how evil these people are.
Just look at your local news to see how bad those people are that live around you.

Today is a Truck Talk Tuesday, it’s just you and me talking about self defense and guns in the truck on a long driver.
Specifically we get into the mind set of self defense. Your mind set is more important then any skill you can have. It’s your mind set that allows you to do anything, and everything, and see things coming.
There are three parts to this series and today we talk about it can happen to you. Bad things happen to good people and you could be one of those people that bad things happen to. You have to except that these bad things could happen to you and then you can prepare yourself for them.

Self Defense is hard
No one wants to believe it can happen to them
Liability is what more companies, schools, and entities care about – Even over human lives
They look at raw numbers and not the people and lives that they share
Money is more important than human lives
We outsource everything in our lives
Self Defense Protection the Family Food Preparedness Teaching our Kids Law Care Done it for so long that we don’t even think it is our responsibility anymore
Hardship creates hard men, those hard men turn around and try to make it easy for the next generation, then the next generation makes it easier on the next, until something happens and hardship creates another generation of hard men.

Today: Should we arm school teachers? Should school teachers be allowed to be armed? Two different questions. This week we are looking at whether the government should spend tax money (our money) to train and equip school teachers with firearms. It’s a good discussion to have, and one that is long overdue.
The concern I have with the argument going on right now over that question is the primary reason people on both sides of the gun rights debate is money, funding. Who is going to pay? That we can’t afford to take any money away from what is already going on in schools. Stupid argument if you ask me… and here’s why.

Today is a Truck Talk Tuesday with Ben Branam back from a little time off because of life.
Today we talk about what’s good, better, and best when it comes to carrying a gun and defending yourself.
I want to change your thoughts on how you think about others carrying a gun and maybe yourself. I know you carry the best possible way and the best possible gun out there. But not everyone does. I think it’s good if good people carry a gun. Any gun is good, some are better, and we could start a bar fight on what is best. As long as it’s safe, it’s a good way to carry. But we can always get better.
Remember that the next time you want to talk down about how someone is carrying a gun.

Today: Movement is one of the best ways not to get shot during a gun fight. You’ve heard “shoot, move, communicate, and you should always being doing 2 out of 3.” Well how do you shoot and move. Do you move then shoot, or shoot and move at the same time. Listen to the podcast to find out what is the best.
But think about it. Without any bias from prior training. Is it better to shoot while moving or move then stop, then shoot? Most people say you can’t shoot and move at the same time and make any hits. That’s false. Your hits will be better if you stop, but you can still hit your target and be combat effective while you are moving.
To find out how listen to this podcast. If you can’t figure it out from their, you can join the Shooter’s Club Members or take a Modern Self Protection course.

Mine went well, Massad’s not as well. No one got hurt on either but Massad did have an ND (Negligent Discharge) where no one was hurt and there was no property damage. If it can happen to him it can happen to any of us.

1 min to get first 911 call going (6 victims) 1 Min for 911 to take info (12 Victims) 3 Min Response time (30 Victims) 1 Min to enter (36 Vics) 1 Min to find (42 Vics)
What is the acceptable number of dead or injured before police get there? Armed Person on scene stopped in average 1-2 minutes about 9 shot Make a plan to stop the shooter Then there is Terrorist

Today: This is a TTT (Truck Talk Tuesday) where we discuss a single topic like it's you and me sitting in the truck for a long drive. This week is on why you should set security first anywhere you go and anything you do. It's an old habit drilled into me by the Marine Corps and is a great habit for you to get into.
Do you make your security the first priority when you get anywhere? Do you look for exits? Decide what to do if something goes sideways? Do you put any conditions or protections between you and something bad?
I just moved into a new house (that's why I haven't been podcasting) and the first thing I did was start my security plan by setting security. I put in the alarm system and met my neighbors before I moved the first box.
Do you set your priority for security that high? Always?

Outline:
How we train and teach should be done to the amount of time, effort, and money that is to be allocated to the task.
4 Kinds of self defense people:
Lifers – People that make it their life’s work to be the best they can be at their station in life. Professionals – Those people that treat it as part of their jogs. They schedule time like it’s a part time job and work on it every week, month, and year of their lives. Hobbyist – People that work on it from time to time because it’s fun. Dabbler – Buy a gun and take a class and then go to the range for fun and don’t worry about it.
Different Ways to Train People
All want to have fun, but in different Ways
Lifers – Want a challenge to make it fun (something so challenging, it maybe impossible). Professionals – want to make a real-world association Hobbyist – Want to see improvement to have fun Dabbler – Wants to accomplish something to have fun
Course Creation
Lifer – As hard as it can be… with the impossible in there just to see their limits Professional – Everything challenging but doable Hobbyist – Culmination at the end… crawl, walk, run method Dabbler – Each drill being fun and easily accomplished
Skills Desired
Lifer – Best of the Best… Won’t except anything but shooting with the best and pushing themselves and everyone around them Professional – Be able to see that they can handle anything in their world Hobbyist – Enough skill to know that they can take on almost anything Dabbler – False skills that says they can do what needs to be done

A look at modern law enforcement’s problems in America
Warren vs DC 1981
Police are not liable for not doing their jobs, neither is the city, county, or department No duty to protect specific people Three women kidnapped, beaten, and raped for fourteen hours after the police failed to investigate a burglary in progress correctly, leading to the kidnappings.
Castle Rock vs Gonzales 2001
5-2 Court Decision Law Enforcement not responsible for not enforcing a court order or the law Order Against a husband, who took the kids, murdered the 3 kids, then committed suicide by cop in a shoot out at the police station No law enforcement interactions or investigation, and court said they don’t have to.
Latest School Shooting
Up to 4 officers being investigated for failure to act 1 was there and is now suspended 1 time is bad luck, 2 is coincidence, 3 is enemy action
Cop at Columbine High School
Florida Night Club there was a cop on duty as a guard
Law Enforcement Problems
PR Officers instead of Warriors A few bad apples… not Wimps in Command Money above people Don’t cause problems for the SGT and above Law Suits Citizens duty to help LEOs Citizens duty to follow commands US Against Them on both sides of the Badge Come home no matter what
Breading Generations of cops to not do anything
Schools are teaching people that violence is Never the answer
People get Programmed and need to take responsibility for that

What I want in a Handgun Mounted Light:
Switch: Easy to operate, Doesn’t change my shooting, use either hand Master Disable Switch that can be used when on or off the gun Easily taken off and put on the gun Common enough holsters for concealed carry and tactical use Bright mode and low mode that is easy to select Rechargeable Batteries and Use common batteries in a pinch LED Battery Life Indicator
Tactics
Light and Move Cover the light for navigation Light, Sweep, Move Don’t need the light on to shoot Face is a good place to shine the light Less effective every time you use the light on someone More light is not always better More to learn and train; not less work
Weapon Mounted vs Handheld Light
Weapon Mounted Whenever Possible Advantages outweigh Disadvantages Advantages
One Handed Use Never Lose it Don’t have to put is someplace Light is always pointing where the gun is pointed… less extra work Gun goes away, light goes away
Disadvantages
Holsters
Bigger Not as Safe
Always pointing the gun at something (Use tactics to minimize this problem) Heavier More Maintenance
Final Word: BOTH!
Weapons Lights I’ve Used and are common:
Surefire X300
Rocker Switch for on Push for on Sucks Indestructible
Stream Light TLR-1
TLR-1
Rocker Switch, one way on, other way momentary Easy on and off (relatively) Good Price Works Well My current favorite
Crimson Trace
Crimson Trace LightGuard
Grip Activation (Not a fan) Slim 1 Battery
Inforce Light APL
Inforce APL
Currently Testing Push in for momentary and on Light Weight Fits same holsters as Surefire Lights Shorter then Surefire or TRL-1

This podcast will give you a new way to look at your interaction with a police officer so you don’t get killed by mistake. Take a look at what you are doing.
Like most things in self defense, if you plan ahead a little by thinking about what you are going to do, there won’t be a problem.
The secret to learning how to deal with a cop during a traffic stop is to think like a cop. We get into how cops think, why they do what they do on traffic stops, why they might not be officer friendly at first, and what you can do to help your situation.
With a couple tips thrown in on how to get out of a ticket.

The Caliber of the Episode: .215 better known as the 5.45x39
Developed by Russia in the 1970’s to be faster and lighter Deployed in 1974 for the AK-74 West Germany and other Western Europian nations didn’t want to call it the 5.45x39 because that’s what the eastern block called it, so it was called .215 The name went away in the 90’s ATF ruling in 2014 Review asked by Border Patrol
Think like a Cop to know how to work with one
Top things that cops get killed doing or injured; traffic stops and domestic violence calls They are looking for bad guys
Not to be just ready, they are actively searching for bad guys to pull over and arrest 3 Strikers They have no idea who they are dealing with in the stop
They assume you are going to try and hurt them, that’s how they stay on top of the situation if it goes bad Who knows what happened yesterday or at the last stop for this cop or his/her friends They have studied a bunch of shooting and cop murders that started at a traffic stop Older cops where taught only bad guys and cops carry guns… if you aren’t a cop and have a gun…
Don’t do Anything that would push you into a bad guy look
Friend at the police academy go pulled over and put his hands on the roof of the car as the cops where coming up Nothing unusual; if you are carrying a gun you have enough to deal with that is out of the ordinary
Do’s and Don’t’s
Do put on your blinker and slow down once you know you are getting pulled over Don’t start driving crazy and staring at the cop in the mirror, you look like you can’t drive or are ready to flee Do pull over in a place that is out of traffic and will be safe for you and the police officer, even if you have to go through the construction zone to get to an exit or where there is a shoulder to pull out of traffic Don’t block traffic unless told to do so Do put the vehicle in park, roll down your window, and put your hands on the steering wheel and wait Don’t be fishing for things inside the car while the cop is walking up Do be nice to the cop Don’t have an attitude Do have the car off Don’t be trying to get stuff for the officer (Philando Castile MN, Eric Scott Las Vegas) Do let the cop know that you have a gun Don’t let the cop find it on his own, or make him/her ask Do follow the cop’s instructions Don’t say I can’t Do talk through what you are doing as you are doing it ...

What’s the Difference:
Weight
Original 27.5 oz 0 Full Size 27.8 oz 0c 24.0 oz 0 15 rds 28.0 oz Glock G17 25.06 oz Glock G19 23.99 oz
Full Length Internal Frame Trigger Bar Texture
Look
Really Awesome with the new texture and color New Slide cut with forward serrations looks cool The FDE Color is actually good looking Finish of slide and frame match better Big metal sights
Feel
Feels good with the new texture and different back straps Texturing sticks to the hand Correct Grip angle With my big hands I can feel if there is a mag in or not Points very well
Fit
Fit and Finish on the guns is good Better then what I would expect for the price Barrel lockup was solid and accuracy was good on the 3 I used for the test Fit everything the same as the original
Shooting
3 Different Guns Used and shot 660 rounds
Full Size 200 rounds Compact 360 rounds Shield A little less then 100 Rounds
Full Sized
Used second day of a class I taught. Borrowed from someone that got it brand new Shot just like my gun
Compact
Used for the second day of Critical Defensive Handgun by Paul Carlson Ran tons of drills w/ Tulaammo in it Shot well Reloads where good I liked the 15 round mags better then the 17 Liked the recoil impulse better then a Glock 19 Follow ups where still fast and easy Didn’t bother my hand even after all day
Shield
The same… Liked the more aggressive checkering because the gun doesn’t fit my hand (it’s too small) Don’t like the price increase Will probably just have my checkered for the price
Loved
Different Trigger Bar and Sear engagement Loved the “Broke in feeling trigger” Same Holsters Same Magazines Same almost everything
Liked
Look of slide Aggressive Texture Price on the M2.0
Didn’t Care For
4th Blackstrap Aggressive Texture against bare skin Same Slide and Barrel Design Different between the full size and compact slide is .25”
Could do without
The name is still too long (it got longer not shorter) Mag extensions still suck for them all Couldn’t find any difference between the Shield 2.0 and original except texturing and slide serrations Price on the Shield Slide Serrations are only good for looks

Isn’t random But it’s violence like anywhere else but there is a reason Maybe against someone you consider a friend Harder to ignore than any other place Probably just mostly bully crimes but be prepared for more Probably a group… think hate crime
Violence Against Staff
For some reason happens Normally not lethal Wait to jump in, you don’t know what things the church has in place and you may get hurt by them
Mass Shooting
Normally 1 person Some will have bombs Locate, close with, and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver. And to repel the enemy’s assault by fire and close combat. Probably a bully Be ready for them to run or suicide They’ll kill until someone stops them
Terrorism
Multiple Attackers Probably have to deal with explosives Might be yelling so easier to find Lately it’s been kill everyone, but kidnaping is historical and could make a comeback Get your family and as many people as you can to safety Up to you to pick the line you will stand on to the death

Thoughts on the Glock 19 Gen 5
Trigger:
Loved shooting if from Reset Don’t like the first trigger pull Felt like shooting a DA/SA Gun
Look:
Like the new pointed front Love the no finger grooves Want a trigger guard undercut Like the checkering
Feel
Like the Texturing Don’t like the front cut on the grip to get the magazine out if you need to Balanced the same as a Glock 19 All the controls feel the same New Ambi Slide Stop seems to work very well as a stop and release My Wife said it has the easiest slide to pull back of all the guns she’s fired (she’s limited to the guns in my safe)
What Glock Updated:
No Finger Grooves Different Barrel Design
New Rifling Recessed Crown
New Finish Flared Mag Well Ambi Slide Stop Coiled Springs over Leaf
On the slide Stop Take Down Latch
Striker Extractor Slide Cover rear Plate Striker Hole All Trigger Parts

Today: We discuss the court case of Commonwealth of Pennsylvania v. Darrin Mouzon as a tactical matter and a legal matter. We look at the case from Mouzon’s point of view legally and tactically, but also look at the case from the victim’s point of view (King, couldn’t find his entire name on line).
When Mouzon used his gun in what I’d call a bar fight, was that legal? Should he have used force at all? Was he legal to use force at all? Should he have had his gun at the time? Was he the bad guy?
Should King have intervened in a verbal altercation and turned it into a bar fight? And if he was going to intervene physically, was that legal? And he should have done it better if he was going to get involved because King ended up being shot and killed by Mouzon.
Mouzon went to prison for Man Slaughter but appealed to the Pennsylvania Supreme court that he acted in self defense.
There were more legal and tactical errors in this case then I think I’ve ever seen. Listen to the podcast for a full break down.

Are Gun Rights more important than Private Property Rights? Can there be a middle ground? Does one exclude the other?
It’s a hard question. We all want Gun Rights (and I haven’t met a gun law I like). But we all want the right to our real property too. Do your property rights trump my gun rights?
Bob Mayne discusses this topic with me while we are in the truck headed to the Gun Rights Policy Conference in Dallas Texas.

Today: Shooting Suppressed Guns. How’s that work? Does it help? Is it worth it?
I shot a competition using suppressed guns last week at my local range, LoneStar Handgun, here in San Antonio and had a blast.
Every time I go out I’m always trying to learn something. I got to shoot, for time, and score, a full auto MP5, Remington 700 .308, a Smith .22 Pistol, FN Shotgun, and the new Maxim 9mm, all suppressed.
First thing I learned is that when it isn’t your gun and you haven’t shot it before and don’t know the set up, it’s hard. So in the real-world you think you are going to do a battle field pickup and fight the bad guys, you better know and be good with a lot of different weapon systems. But even if you are good with that system (like I can run a bolt gun) that specific gun will have it’s quirks. Like what range is the rifle zeroed at? What ammo was it zeroed with? And what ammo is in the gun?
Second I learned again that suppressors are the best compensators on the market. They reduce recoil a tone! The FN Shotgun was a dream to shoot with a big suppressor on it. Even a small statured young girl at the range did very well with the shotgun and it didn’t hurt or push her around.
If you ever get to do an event like this, take the opportunity and go for it!

Today: I talk about my experience over the Labor Day Weekend in Rockport TX one week after Hurricane Harvey destroyed the town.
I talked straight from memory and tried to put it in chronological order. I recorded this the day after we got back.
It messed with me and I didn’t get everything right, but I think you’ll get the gist of what is happening down there and what it looks like.
This is a longer podcast because I didn’t look at time or try to cut it up at all. I just recorded my thoughts and feeling after I got back.
It did take me a couple days to get back into the swing of life. For most of Tuesday and Wednesday all I could think about was what the people down there are going through.
Listen to the podcast and help if you can. But at least hear what they are going through.

Click Here Get Notes by EmailToday: Are you prepared? Are you really prepared for anything? Hurricane Harvey rolled though Texas and then came back for more. The storm went through and devastated a bunch of small towns along the gulf just missing some of the bigger ones.
When it came back for more it slammed the Houston area. Houston is one of the biggest cities in America and is now under water as of this recording. They had record amounts of rain, and well over the 100 year flood event. Houston doesn’t do well for flooding as it is. Highways in and out are closed because the road is gone.
What are you doing to be prepared for a disaster in your area? In your home? Are you really doing everything you could be doing?
Outline:
Where Harvey Hit
People Being Displaced:
Large influx of people The 10% are out of their element Uptick in crime Bad guys lose their normal income and hunting grounds Everyone is a little more desperate
My Preps
Truck set up easily for emergencies Need to add wood and more screws to it Have lots of cribbing material
Home
Need more boards to home to shore up holes if I need it Need some tarps for the same reason for holes in roof Could use another ladder More rope 550 and Cotton Rope
Food and Water
Want 6 months on hand We took in someone and probably had a week with extra person Water was starting to be cleared out Want extra cases to donate to people; bottles are best Air conditioned building in the back would be great for stores
What I’m doing
Clean out our home Add lots of preps with extra room
Old Military Rule: Always be improving your position.
What are you doing to prepare for a natural disaster?

Today: Today we discuss a bunch of indicators about you actually being under attack. We also spend time on what point an actual attack begins and how you can keep that from happening.
Avoidance is always the best. At what point has a bad guy picked you as a victim? Is there anything you can do about it? How can you keep from being selected? How long does it take for the attack to happen? What’s a victim interview?
All this about your self defense and more. Your mind set to get out of danger is more important then any fighting technique you can learn.

Today: Plate Carriers for Law Enforcement and civilian self defense use is on the rise and within a reasonable price now that you could actually own one with plates. But which one should you get? And what should you fill it with?
What carrier should you get? Or what style at least to start with. Then what plates and armor should you put into the armor carrier?
After you have your plates and armor, what to put on it. Magazines, flashlight, first aid kit, what would be best?
Then once, it’s all set up, when should you use it and how should you stage it?

Today: This is a Truck Talk Tuesday. Just out of my mind and into the recorder like we were having a conversation in while traveling.
I’m talking about the Firearms Safety Rules. The 4 handed down from Jeff Cooper himself. Should they change? I’ve been thinking a lot about Number 2; “Never point the weapon at anything you don’t intend to shoot.”
It’s a negative and our minds don’t always hear the “don’t” in things. And where do you point the gun during administrative handling?
I’m thinking of changing it to “Always point the muzzle in the safest direction possible.”
What do you think? Leave me a comment below.

I start with a quick history of the guns. Then jump into my first thoughts on the original 320 when it came out.
Then I talk about the 320 RX in great detail. This was a spectacular gun and if you are thinking about getting one, listen to the podcast to confirm you decision to buy one.
Last I discuss the 320 X-Five. I didn’t get to shoot this one as much as the RX, but had a good feel for it. It feels like a gun should. The balance and recoil is right and it points like a 1911. What more could you want?
In the end, I’m always looking for a better mouse trap, and the Sigs may need to replace my current carry Smith & Wesson M&P guns. I’m not sure yet.

From the P250 Introduced at SHOT 2014 Wasn’t exciting Looked like a revamped P250 Done before by Kel-Tec and Styer The HK VP series outshined it at the time Sold some quietly, but not much Won the military contract, Now everyone wants one Sig had the X-Five and RX model coming out before the military contract was awarded It hit perfect for them and now the gun is really hot
Like the 250
Super Accurate Nice DOA trigger Pointed like a gun should Modularity was cool but didn’t care that much Almost bought one more then once and should have
Original 320
Shot some and liked them more then the VP series of guns Didn’t get popular so there wasn’t a lot of holsters out there for them After announcement Sig went full in on them Same accuracy as the 250 Everyone complains about the high bore access and recoil management I feel the difference shooting one but not a real problem Like
Trigger Finish and fit Feel in the hand Sights Pointability
Not So much
Popularity High bore access means it needs to be shot a little different
P320 RX
Has the Romeo 1 reflex sight on it installed at the factory About the Romeo 1
Loved it Bright indoors Aligned perfectly no searching for it Auto on and off with movement Top Loading Battery Weight is down to 0.8 oz (RMR is 1.2 oz) Different batter then others Big Buttons can sometimes be activated when you don’t want them to be
Accuracy: I outshot my carry gun by 3 points with it on a DOT Torture test Had one weird feeling trigger malfunction, but I think it was me
P320 X-Five
Every thing done to it Weight in the grip for balance 5 inch barrel cut slide flared mag well Just nice
Flat Triggers
Initially liked one with an Apex trigger in it These two had flat triggers from Sig and I had problems figuring them out

This is a Truck Talk Tuesday. Just out of my mind and into the recorder like we were having a conversation in while traveling.
I was thinking about having enough gun from the last episode and now I’m thinking about the long gun I carry on the road when I’m out of town for work.

Today: Do you Carry Enough Gun to handle what may come your way? Maybe, maybe not. The bigger gun we can carry is generally better, but practicality has to be part of our lives also.
Carry as much gun as you can get away with for any given circumstance. That will mean different things to different people at different times. What can you carry, and do you carry more when you can?
I carry a couple different guns and configurations. I’m always looking for something better but rarely change what I do. What works, works.
This podcast is all about different thoughts for different times, and what you can practically do to make yourself and your family safer.

Today: Truck Talk Tuesday: I’m in the truck talking about one topic, no outline, just you and me talking on a long drive.
Stupid Gun Tricks, we all have seen them go wrong, like here, a Girl Shoots Boyfriend for YouTube Stunt. I know you aren’t that dumb, but we have all done things we probably shouldn’t have with guns and other dangerous things in our life.
I go over a different way to think about this so that you can evaluate the risk of anything you are thinking of doing. Because “It sounded like a good idea at the time” is not a good excuse for getting someone hurt later.
As in the story above you can see that the girl was charged with Manslaughter and their kids will grow up without a dad.
Don’t do crazy stuff without evaluating all the risks. And doing risky stuff just to get famous on YouTube is stupidest reason I’ve ever heard.

Click Here Get Notes by EmailToday: The American society has a great divide in it. Us v Them that has nothing to do with who we are, but how we are being manipulated by others that want something from us. This divide in American Culture has been growing for years as we scream past each other, instead of talk to our neighbors. Now that same divide is starting in the gun culture and even down to the self defense sub culture.
Every shooting that is pushed in the media seems to have us fighting each other about stupid things instead of looking how we can fix the world. Sometimes we people do wrong and need to go to jail, but that needs to be found after an exhaustive search of fact. Assumption and projection has no place in a court of law where someone’s freedom is being complicated.
We as a self defense community are better then that. We should be having discussions about how to make ourselves, our community, our country, and the world a better place.
The latest thing trying to divide us is the shooting of Philando Castile by Officer Jeronimo Yanez in Minnesota. Officer Yanez was acquitted this week of all charges in the shooting. A court of law has decided and we should respect that as much as we like it or not.
We can have discussions about Law Enforcement needing to be better trained, better vetted (not just when hired but also during their career), and how us as civilians that interact with police should be better trained and practiced about interacting with law enforcement. The other crap, is just crap and if we fight amongst ourselves about it, we will lose everything our sub culture has gained in the last couple decades.
In this podcast I’ll be talking about the shooting, the videos that have been released, legal standard for justifiable use of deadly force, and some of the background that may or may not have made a difference.

Click Here Get Notes by EmailToday: Truck Talk Tuesday we talk about the NRA’s Honor and Carry Guard Program. Is it any good? Should you want a class or insurance from them? How is the NRA acting now that it is officially in the training business to make money?
The Honor Guard is their new (and improved?) training program with high end former military guys leading it. Should you go get training from them? I don’t know. I’d like to take a class and find out before passing judgement, but as of right now, it looks like an advertising gimic and there are so many great instructors out there. Let someone else spend their money to find out how good or bad it is.
The Carry Guard is their insurance program. I’ll do without it. They will put 20% of whatever amount you paid for upfront and then reimburse you for the other 80% afterwards. Worst case (Jorge Zimmerman) your defense could cost millions of dollars. Carry Gard “Gold” is up to $150,000. So if you have this program, get into a gun fight and win, then get prosecuted for it, the insurance will put up $30,000 (20%) and will reimburse you for the rest (sooner or later? After you are acquitted?). I don’t know when.
The NRA kicking people out of the NRA Annual Meeting is scary to me. I don’t mind the rest of it (think it could have been done better), but the NRA excluding people because they are doing things the NRA wants to do to make money at the last second. Well, that just feels wrong and unethical. I think they need to reavaluate how they are going about this and start again with an appoligy to some of it’s members about how they where treated. Right now I don’t trust the NRA to keep its word because it lied to people that it had let into the Annual Meeting. When you allow someone to come, they pay for booth space, have been there before, and then call them two weeks out and say they aren’t welcome without a real explanation, that’s wrong.
Everyone makes mistakes, including the NRA, and I hope they can right themselves after this one, and make things better.

Today: Terrorism will continue to work in America for one simple reason: the people are not ready to do what is necessary to combat it.
Some of you are ready for the fight, to help law enforcement, and stand up for what is right even when it’s hard. Most people in America are not. They just want “someone” to do “something” about it.
Until we fix our culture terrorism will continue and may end up winning if we as Americans don’t fix ourselves.

Podcast Outline:
The Public in general is not ready to do what is necessary.
They will not get involved before, during, or after an event. Race-a-phobia will drag us to our doom.
The Public will not law enforcement do what is necessary
Law enforcement does nothing and has no push back from the public with real consequences on the officers, supervisors, administration, or government involved. Officers that do things get major push back even when things go right. To the point they may lose their freedom, family, and everything that they ever worked for. Citizens will not stand up for officers doing what is right.
Law enforcement will not do what is necessary
War is not about arresting and convicting people Law enforcement training sucks
Federal Agencies are a joke
Race-a-phobia will get them fired or worst. After little kids at the airport Terror watch lists and warning are a joke Looking for bad things, not bad people
Military
Overuse of military force. Bombing them to the end will not work unless we do a war of attrition on an entire population (we should not be wiping out entire countries full of people). Fear of acting on small scales If commanders lose people they lose their careers. If they do nothing it is easier and faster for them to advance. Only way to win this is one-on-one fighting in the streets. We will lose war fighters, but can win the war that way. Our Spec-Ops troops cannot do it all. Conventional forces will have to get unconventional to get the job done.

Click Here Get Notes by EmailTruck Talk Tuesday (TTT): A shorter podcast with just one quick topic to keep you thinking about your self defense.
Today: Brass Check/Chamber Check/Press Checks; Whatever you want to call it, should you do it? When should you do it? When shouldn’t you do it?
Quote of the day, “Do you even Brass Check, Bro?”
Almost every instructor has an opinion about when and if you should do a brass check. In the simplest, a brass/chamber/press check is pulling the slide or bolt back on a weapon to make sure there is a round in the chamber.
On one extreme are the instructors that say you shouldn’t have to do a chamber check because you should know without a doubt if the gun is loaded and you should be able to feel when you load the gun that a round went into the chamber.
To tell the truth, if I’m paying strick attention I can tell if a round when into the chamber when I load my handgun and my ARs. I can’t tell if one went in the chamber on all handguns and all ARs. And I can’t tell even on my AK if one went in the chamber when I racked the bolt. So that doesn’t work for me.
On the other side of the argument is the instructors that say, you should chamber check your weapon every chance you get. They run around the range before every drill and do a check. It slows down everything and builds bad habits.
I’m in the middle. When you load your weapon, you should check to make sure you did it correctly. Your life could depend on it. Then anytime the gun is out of your control you should check it to ensure it is in the condition you want it in at that second while you are handling it.

Today: Calling 911 is a part of our world. If you have never done it you should. Like everything in the world, it takes practice to be good at it.
During this podcast we go over two 911 calls. One went well even though the operator was kind of being a pain. The second one went badly even though the operator was doing a good job of helping the caller.

Last week I called 911 twice in 2 days
What you should expect from a 911 operator
How you can make the call go better for you
Example 1: Can be found here (scroll down and play the call, skip the article).
The caller does well after the bad guy hit him with a car and then tried to run him over The operator doesn’t fully listen to find out what is going on and has a bunch of miscommunications This could happen to you
Example 2: Hear it in this YouTube video that is only sound.
The caller says a lot of things wrong Doesn’t want to listen to the operator (even though this operator is giving good advise) Things go very slowly for a long time and then get very exciting at the end
Neither example were convicted of a crime.
How could you do better?

Click Here Get Notes by EmailToday: The new Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 was announced at SHOT Show in January of this year. From Smith’s web site “…the M&P M2.0 delivers an entirely new platform, introducing innovative features in nearly every aspect of the pistol, including trigger, grip, frame, and finish.“ Not sure that is the case, but it is pretty cool.
This podcast compares the old M&P I’ve carried and used for almost 5 years now to the new (and improved?) M&P 2.0. While Smith says it’s an entirely new platform I found that not to be entirely true. They redesigned the trigger but kept the same slide configuration. In fact I put the old slide on the new gun and it appears to work just fine.
Listen to the podcast to get a complete comparison of the M&P and the M&P 2.0. Is the 2.0 better and/or worth replacing your old gun for? Listen to the complete M&P 2.0 Review.

Podcast Outline:
Start with a Plan
Make it simple – Example: Bunker in place, call police, and wait for them to take care of the problem. Don’t forget to have a way for police to get into your home without kicking in the front door (especially if you have hardened the door)
Harden Your Home
Lock your doors…. always Start with making your front door to breach (check out this post on Securing Your Door) Window Coverings (like these Window Coverings on Amazon) Cut Back Plants Lock all Doors
Harden a Room
Add an outside door with a dead bolt to a safe room to your house
Use Motion Lights
Set up motion lights Create a lighting plan I just bought these motion lights to test on Amazon
Only Go if you have to… Here’s a couple ideas
Move if you have to Light and move Don’t be afraid to turn on lights (something like these remote control plugs on Amazon can help Move at the ready, figure off the trigger (remember and use all safety rules) Eyes and gun move together Practice moving smoothly through your house Learn long angles
Slow v Fast Movement
Slow
Pie each corner, slowly One step at a time Shuffle small steps Methodical
Fast
Turkey Peak Found Corners Light and Move Tactical Pause I like speed
Tactical Patience
Why are you clearing the house? Why are you leaving your bedroom right now? Pause and wait a minute… Look, listen, feel
Retreat/Escape
Would you stay if there was a fire? Why do you have to stay if there is someone in your house? Defender is always at the advantage
7 to 1: Attackers v Ensconced Defenders
If you can go out the back door and wait for the cops… why not? Make sure you get all your family out
What Happens if they get by you?
They have their way with your family You’ve pissed them off… a lot. They will take it out on your family More then any other situation you can’t lose!!!!

Today: How fast matters in a gun fight? What speed matters? And how can you measure that time? Speed is relevant to the bad guy. So how fast do you need to be?
Rob Morse called in a Voice Mail about the conversation Paul Carlson and I had about how fast should you shoot on the last podcast. He brought up a great point about awareness and when you should use your speed.
Shooting fast matters, but not as much as self defense tactics or your awareness of what is going on.

I really enjoyed it and of course learned some cool stuff. I’m excited to say that I learned more then usual at these things. I’ve gotten to the point where I only learn one or two things at each event I go to. This one I learned a lot. So I’m going to bring that knowledge to you.
This week is an overview about big thoughts and changes that I made to my life right after coming back. These include changing my ECD, more personal focus on gun safety and safe storage of firearms, and different modes of carry.

What I’m Changing in my life:
My Every-Day-Carry: I’m going back to carrying a pocket revolver thanks to a class from Chuck Haggard Only 1% of our Gun Culture take training – Course from Karl Rahn More Focus on Gun Safety when they aren’t on me – John Farnam No more C-Grip or Palming the Gun to holster the gun Use Eye Pro/Safety Glasses all the time when handling guns
What I’m Considering
Appendix Carry – Spencer Keepers I want to test this and learn more about it. I’m considering taking a Keepers course and am ordering one of their holsters. Force on Force Training – How to do it safely, should I add it to the training I provide, and should you be taking a Force-on-Force course? Everyone loves shooting, not everyone loves everything else in self defense You don’t always have to stop an active shooter/killer, if you keep pressuring him, he’ll generally kill himself Different Holsters: Appendix, SERPA, et al. Because they are popular, we should know about them and how to use them. Holsters that sit too low… Trash them Change my terms I use… Threat v Bad Guy Trying to get work as an expert witness… You are an expert too. Act like it when asked a question about shooting or self defense.
Requires more Thought
Violent Criminal Actors (VCAs) – How evil people really can be, that those evil people are here in your neighborhoods, and how you have to deal with them (Class by William Aprill) Terrorist Bombings I’m the top of the top when it comes to training and self defense (but I’m not alone and neither are you). No Gun Signs at big churches “We no longer have a nation of laws; we have a nation of agendas… Adjust accordingly” – John Farnam Farnam said the first thing to do in any self defense situation is move. Figure the rest out as you go (almost a standing ovation from me) Safe vs Unsafe guns Training is down everywhere

Click Here Get Notes by EmailToday: We discuss the case of Georgia v. Daniel Ray Brown. Brown was a CHL holder who tried to help during what he thought was a self defense situation, but without the proper training and background he messed it up. He ended up with law enforcement and a couple judges pissed at him. Luckily no one was hurt but it could have been a lot worst.
If you are going to help someone else you need all the information you can get before acting in self defense of others. If you are wrong it could cost someone (including you) their life. Listen to the “what ifs” throughout this podcast and make sure you do it right, help the good guy, only hurt or capture the bad guys, and keep yourself out of legal trouble!
In defense of others is one of the most complicated parts of the law of self defense. Self Defense law is already screwy with little settled case law to pull on. Law Enforcement has been doing it for a long time, but for some reason the good cases of self defense are mot being let into a civilian self defense cases, but the case law that will hurt you will be brought in. This is something you can’t afford to mess up. Learn as much as you can so you can do it right, help the right people, and stay out of prison.

Initial Report Post Trial Report
What Happened:
Brown at the Mall having breakfast at McDonald’s with his mom See a white man running away from two black men Black me tackle and start fighting with the white guy White Guy start yelling for help and that they are trying to kill him Brown has a CHL and is carrying his weapon Tells his mom to call 911 and goes to help Pulls his gun and orders them to stop Black guy says the white guy is a client and keeps fighting with him No one is wearing uniforms or distinctive clothing Brown asks for ID but doesn’t get anything Brown fires a warning shot into the ground a couple feet in front of the fighting men Somewhere after that, and before police officers arrive Brown puts his gun on the ground and moves away from it. Police arrive with guns drawn after reports of shots fired My Favorite quote of the entire mess by the first responding officer and his body cam “Where’d you get a concealed carry license from? Kmart?... Warning shots? We don’t fire warning shots.” Brown convicted by lower court of battery and discharge of a firearm within city limits Appealed, conviction of discharge of firearm upheld, batter dismissed Judge revoked Brown’s carry permit and confiscated and destroyed his gun Allegations of Racism running all over this
Georgia has no training requirement for a CHL, so Brown had no documented training at all.
He said stupid things throughout to everyone and it cost him, and it might cost him more as things move forward.
Just for good measure the local paper adds this:
According to Hanes Mall’s behavioral code of conduct, mall visitors are asked to refrain from “carrying or displaying weapons of any kind except those carried by certified law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties.”
“As a private-property owner we are allowed to post our expectations. That does not mean that necessarily we are able to determine every person that may or may not be on the property or on the adjacent parcel owners’ properties.”
Nice!!!

My Father, Bryant Martin Branam has the rifle he first bought. He handed it down to me about 5 years ago so I could teach my son how to shoot on it. A great way to start with youth and to keep them in it for a while. My son, now 7, wants to outgrow it already. He wants to shoot my AR more then the .22 already.
My father bought this rifle from Montgomery-Wards back in the early 60’s. It’s so old it doesn’t have a serial number. He walked into the department store with his mother (in a wheel chair at the time) and walked out with a rifle. “The good old days.”
I fired my first round out this .22. I wish I could say I made the hit and that I haven’t missed since, but… You know how that goes.
I hope this inspires you to find that small thing you can pass down and create or keep a tradition going. Whatever it is, take the time to film it and save that file ever where so that in the future your children’s children can see who you were.

How do you know if someone is after you?
Awareness is the key
Get your head up Pay attention to the world around you Look ahead of where you are going
Driving just over the hood or 3 cars in front of you
Plan what you are doing and where you are going
Schedules
We are creatures of habit Very times and routes
Go a different time
Run an errand Go to the gym before or after
Come home a different way
Watch for people that follow you in your car
Why is that person there?
IF you can answer this question you can find the people that want to hurt you Start doing this the next time you are out It’s easy to test, just profile someone What are they doing and why are they doing it this second A guy standing alone in a department store around the ladies clothes A guy smoking a cigarette outside a Walmart in the dark
Awareness Check
Do people surprise you? Do people you know see you first? DO you run into people or things when you are out? Halloween scary houses get boring because by default you see things before they happen

3 Types of Bad Guys
Wimps – This type will give up as soon as you resist Bullies – This type will need some convincing to give up. You will have to inflict damage and/or pain when you fight back to get this type to give up so you can prevail. Dedicated – These are the worst of the worst. They will not give up until you make them physically. Rapist, murders, and terrorist would all fall into this category. They will take what they want form you and will only be stopped if you physically make them. They will not give up and will not be deterred. These scare me.
Be prepared to deal with all three. You first have to assume you are dealing with a dedicated attacker Then use the appropriate force if the attacker gives up or shows to be a wimp or bully.

Difference Between the 556 NATO and .223 Remington
556 Case Mouth Conducer 55,000 PSI; but SAAMI says it’s closer to 60,000 PSI .223 Copper Units or Measure (CUM) or called Mid Case Transducer, SAAMI says the max 55,000 PSI SAAMI Spec vs NATO Spec Chamber
Chamber the same except the throat or lead
.223 is 0.085” 56 is 0.162”
Cartridge Difference Interchangeability (you can shoot .223 and 5.56 in a 5.56 NATO chamber, but not the other way around. Buy a 5.56 chambered gun)
Ammo I’ve Used
556 NATO 62gr Green Tips (M855) 556 NATO 55gr FMJ (M193)
Military Moving
M855A1 Marines stuck on M855 But using MK318 Mod 2 in combat Rumors of 75 or 77gr long range bullets Change is coming
For Home Defense
Trusted 55gr FMJ Ballistic Performance Everything else you give up performance in tissue to gain other things Ammo companies and what they will give us
Considerations
Do you need barrier penetration? Length of Barrel
Creates different velocities Different Velocities mean different yaw and shatter points Shatter is what gets you desired effect Has to being going fast enough About
2600 FPS or above to get shatter 16” 2800 FPS at muzzle 20” 3000 FPS at muzzle From Ballistics by the inch
18” 2983 16” 2943 14” 2878 12” 2616 10” 2380
Anything with a shorter barrel needs a different kind of ammo Consider Hornady TAP With short barrels and 55 gr bullets not much more then a 9mm
Consider the longest shot you may take Wall Penetration If you go extra heavy barrel twist matter

So called gun show loophole limit private sales or make small dealers become licensed "not a plot to take away everybody's guns." "If a child can't open a bottle of aspirin, we should make sure they can't pull a trigger on a gun," Obama says. He compares "smart guns" to smartphones that require a fingerprint to unlock the device and mentions trackers that could help find a stolen gun. The president's plan rests on four main points:
Background Checks: Require all gun sellers — including online and at gun shows — to have a license and perform background checks. Have the FBI overhaul the existing background check system. Enforcement: Improve the use of America's existing gun laws, and add 200 new agents to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Mental Health: Remove barriers that can keep states from reporting and sharing information about people barred from owning guns for mental health reasons, and spend $500 million to increase access to mental health care. Technology: Push for research in gun safety technology, such as "smart guns" that can only be fired by authorized users. The research would be done by the Departments of Defense, Justice and Homeland Security. The White House notes the federal government is "the single largest purchaser of firearms in the country."

Be careful with the term "Home Grown Terrorism." I'm afraid the term means me! President Obama said it when he was elected (along with calling me a tax cheat), and when the new "Domestic Terror Counsel" was announced by John Carlin Head of the DOJ's National Security Division. Yes you've never heard of him and that's on purpose. This new counsel could be the start of a new division and then government agency that's only duty is to monitor me.
Here's my thoughts on the new counsel. It also pushed me over to talk about civil war and how people throw that thought about and shouldn't. Most of them don't know what they are talking about and it will be worst then most people could ever image.
