Welcome to part 7 of the Adrian Stonebridge story.
This episode is absolutely jam packed with amazing chapters from Adrian's story. We start off by talking around a couple of typical issues I see in the tennis coaching world. We quickly then jump back into Adrian's story and he unpacks what a typical year in his coaching academy looked like. From here, he explains how his Channel 4 TV series came about and the doors it opened for him to create a huge national tennis roadshow which reached 1000's of children around the UK. Just when you think there is nothing more he could have done, he tells you about his one man stage show and his experiences on the stage of the BAFTA's.
This is an absolute gem of an episode and now I would like to offer you the opportunity to ask Adrian any question you have. Please get in touch with me with your question and I will select the best ones to ask Adrian on my next episode.
Please share this with your friends and family. It is a story to be told.

This journal entry brings you former Marine Commando, Howard Green.
Howard left the marines and ventured into the world of strength and conditioning. Shortly after, he was attracted by the chaotic nature of tennis.
Over the last 11 years he has built a brilliant reputation in the tennis world and now leads the fitness programme at Bolton Arena, England.
Having spent some time as the fitness coach to Ana Ivanovic, he has taken stock and focused his efforts on developing the physical attributes of young emerging tennis players. He has created a fantastic programme called Tennis Supermovers which breaks down the fundamental movements required to build great physical foundations. This is now available for anyone. See the link below.
https://www.tennissupermovers.com
Howard and his friends have also just completed an incredible challenge for their friend who has tragically been diagnosed with MND. They climbed the 3 peeks in Yorkshire, England in 12 hours, carrying their friend on a stretcher. They are raising funds for MND and I have copied the link below.

This journal entry brings you, 17 year old tennis player, Rosie Sterk.
Rosie has just secured her full tennis scholarship at Montana University and I thought it would be great to chat around that process and some other tennis topics. What I wasn't prepared for was just how amazingly articulate, wise and passionate Rosie is.
We take a dive into her teenage tennis years and she gives fantastic opinions and advice on what could be done to attract and retain more female competitors. We also go through her life changing experience of being a WTA Futures Stars player at the 2019 WTA Finals in Shenzhen. It is clear to me, when Rosie spots a slightly open door, she smashes through it and maximises the opportunity.
I was blown away by Rosie in this chat. Please pass it on to your tennis friends, parents, players and coaches.

I am delighted to bring you Lara Suarez-Neves, mother, tennis coach and, now, working in brand identity within the tennis world.
It is vital we get the messages from this podcast out there for people to speak about. Lara tells her story into tennis playing and coaching. Her coaching career was put on halt when she became the mother to two beautiful girls. Lara talks brilliantly well about how becoming a mother instantly changed her identity and made it very difficult for her to maintain a career she had worked so hard to build over the years.
She has now created Seven Love Studio which has a niche focus on building the brand identity of tennis clubs, organisations and coaches across England. If you would like to know more about her business, please click on the link below.

Please share this episode far and wide, especially with mothers who may be experiencing the same emotions Lara has.

A true Scottish tennis stalwart, who is admired by everyone in the game. One of the most honest and humble coaches you could ever meet. In this episode you will hear how he got into the game, took the brave plunge to go into full-time coaching in the 1980's when he had a secure job as a PE teacher.
Mike was largely responsible for keeping me in the game in my teenage years and I know 1000's of players feel as affectionately as I do about him.

Mark has developed many Scottish players from their early years, through to playing international level tennis.
Coach to ATP top 50 doubles player, Jonny O'Mara for 12 years.
This is podcast of 2 halves. 1st half we delve into the unique route Mark took into tennis and coaching. The 2nd half has a really deep dig into where Mark feels his career is now and what he would like to do in the future.
For me, this was one of the most real conversations I've had on the show. I kept Mark on the edge of his discomfort in the 2nd half for a reason. The lightbulb moments kept popping away with the most important one being, even the best need people to learn from.
Please share this with your tennis friends as it has important messages laced throughout.

I asked him on the show to talk about his new venture, the Portuguese tennis culture and the why he's made such a bold move.
He is a great coach who is comfortable at all ages and stages. If you are interested in travelling to the Algarve to play tennis, please get in touch with him. He is one of the most genuine people I have ever met.

Entry 44 brings you Australian tennis coach, and now, Playsight Managing Director for Europe and UK.
Rodney didn't start playing tennis until he was 12 and entered his 1st competition at 13. Less than 5 years later, he was competing in the Australian Open Junior Event. This is a meteoric rise.
He took up a college scholarship and gained a degree in Forensic Science. He wanted to join the CIA but a twist of fate lead him back into tennis coaching in North London. Several years later, he moved on to an academy in Frankfurt, Germany and now works full-time for Playsight.
We talked about the different tennis cultures between Britain and Germany, how the pro tour needs to completely restructure, how he set up the 1st pro sports event in lockdown which was watched by 180 million people and finally how Playsight hopes to lead the way in revolutionising the screen watching experience for tennis fans.

Entry 43 is a proper journal entry.
13 minutes of my lockdown reflections. I talk about professional tennis and what it has revealed, including Novak Djokovic's exhibition.
I then move on to my reflections on what I need to be truly happy
I get a little controversial on how some coaches believe they are entitled to earn a living from tennis when they don't even promote the playing of the game.
Finally, I talk about the importance of kindness and how it has really helped me through these strange times.

Entry 42 was an emotional chat for me. Elizabeth Caproni is an actor, writer and impersonator.
In her mid-teens she was bullied by her, so called friends, to such a degree she left school with no qualifications despite being in the top classes in most subjects.
Why was she bullied? Simply because she expressed the opinion that she wanted to be an actor.
She left school, moved to London and pursued her dream. Having starred in programmes such as Trial & Retribution and soap opera, River City, she now has a career as a successful script writer and impersonator of famous people such as Cheryl Cole and Nicola Sturgeon.
Her story left its mark on me as I could draw parallels with wanting to be something different to the norm, a tennis coach. I had to fight to be this and was ridiculed by many of my friends, peers and teachers. 29 years later, I get the privilege to speak with amazing people who we can all learn from.
Take your time with this episode and soak up the key messages within it.
Thank you Elizabeth for being brave and strong enough to show your vulnerability.

Entry number 41 to my tennis journal is with UK legendary coach, Mike James.
Mike is the director of coaching at one the of the UK's best tennis clubs, Halton. He has been there for 27 years which is testament to his ability to have a clear vision which constantly evolves.
Originally from Kenya, he moved to Arizona in his early teens an then on to Arizona university to play college tennis before forging a coaching career.
Mike is, without doubt, one of the most authentic people I know and is constantly looking for ways to develop himself, his club, coaches and players.
I hope you enjoy this chat as much as I did.

Vania speaks about what she learned from all the amazing tennis coaches she's had over the years. The list of names alone is impressive.
Vania gives great opinions on the importance of game development and ensuring you take into account the personality of the player.
You will hear how influential her mother has been on her mindset and perspective on how women can succeed when provided with opportunity.
Finally, we talk about her journey into charity work.

Author, Speaker and columnist, and genuinely one of the nicest people I have ever met. He is world renowned for his work in the mind and body connection.
10 books later, he has made the time to leave an entry in my tennis journal.
This was a truly fascinating chat which has left me pondering all the possibilities of transferring his work into the tennis world.

There are revelations in here which turn regular tennis thinking on its head and I can't wait to have lots of discussions around these topics with my tennis peers.

Greg McHugh is a very successful professional actor. Made famous for his creation of Gary Tank Commander, playing Howard on Fresh Meat and starring in The A Word. A talented writer, actor and comedian for sure.
However, what most people don't know, is Greg's first passion was sport.
In this episode, he talks of his journey through sport, who influenced him as a teenager and how he transitioned into drama.
We then speak about the surprising parallels between the acting and the tennis world.
This was a real treat for me. I could have spoken to Greg for hours and I am sure you will enjoy it also.

It was a real pleasure chatting with ex-ATP player, Ed Corrie. He left a fantastic entry in my journal and one that had me thinking for hours afterwards.

This was an enlightening chat, as my perception of spiritual and soulful work was that it is intangible. However, I could not have been any more mistaken as most of the work results in practical activities you can do in your own time.

In this episode you will hear from the one and only Garry Cahill.
Gary was the performance director and national academy coach for Tennis Ireland for 14 years. 4 of those years he was Davis Cup Captain for Ireland. He has worked with players who have played the main draw of grand slams at senior and junior level. He has a wealth of experience in player development.
He is the founder of an exciting new company called Prodigy Tennis. He has assembled a fantastic team of coaches and, has most recently, done what very few people in tennis manage to achieve...... he has built his own indoor tennis courts out of a school sports hall. Better still, he did this with the help of the parents of players he coaches and halved the total build cost.
You will hear many great opinions and insights to the performance world along with brilliant tips on how to coach players within match play.
It was a real pleasure talking with Garry and it could have easily gone on for hours on end.
Have a listen and share it with your sporty friends and parents of sporty kids.

I have taken a different approach for this podcast. In this 7 minute podcast you will hear my thoughts on the statistic that is dominating tennis.
70% of all points are finished within 4 shots. I believe this stat is being butchered and misunderstood by coaches. In this show, you will hear me scratch beneath the surface of the statistic.
In this episode you will hear from the exceptional Dean Sutherland.
Dean is a former multiple world kickboxing champion and has made a smooth transition into the world of professional boxing.
You will hear how he was transformed into a fighting machine from the age of 3 and exhausted all options in kickboxing.
Now he is on a strategic mission to make it to the top of professional boxing with a world title in his plans.
When you listen to Dean speak, I am sure you will agree there is no stone he will leave unturned to make this dream become a reality.
We discuss the similarities and differences between tennis and boxing.
I can safely say, this was one of my favourite chats so far. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

It is clear to me, the coaching skills required and displayed in disability sport are amongst the most pure in coaching. I have witnessed experts first hand in recent months and if more coaches had these exceptional skills then GB tennis would be in a far more healthy place.
If you are involved in disability sport, please share this amongst your peers. If you are not, listen on and listen to someone truly authentic talk about their journey.

Episode 1 went down a storm so as promised here we have part 2 of the Louis Cayer interview.
In this show we go into more specific details on player and coach development. Louis shares his wisdom, thoughts and experience on the wide range of topics. We start by hearing how Louis prepares to work with a new player. We then discuss what things are visible in a potential performer and how to test the values of a player, how personality clashes does not mean players cannot work together and still have success at the very highest end of the game, and the priorities for developing young performers and what skills should be focused on. Louis addresses the perception that great singles players don't play doubles and talks about the trend of top singles players becoming injured and the importance of having healthy development plans for younger players. Lastly, Louis shares what he would like to see prioritised in coach education in the UK.
