Andrew is a serial entrepreneur who was the first in his family to start a business, or as he calls it, a 1st Generation Entrepreneur.
In 2006, he started an IT consulting business as a one-man show. Over time that business grew to $2M/year before he sold it in 2021.
During that time, he also founded a digital advertising startup, a commercial real estate company, and even a small car dealership.
Important Note: Not all of these were a runaway success.
Because Andrew grew up without any formal training/education on what it takes to properly grow a business, he always felt as though he had to learn everything the hard way, and that the road to success was filled with uncertainty and indecision.
Now that he has successfully run the gamut of starting, growing and selling a successful business, he is on a mission to help as many 1st Gen Entrepreneurs as he can. His primary goal is to help them beat the odds of failure, get over the “entrepreneurial hump” (as he likes to call it), and actually enjoy the freedoms that business ownership has to offer.
To that end, he’s founded an online support community built specifically for 1st Generation Entrepreneurs, where they can get all the help, support & guidance they need to grow their business successfully.
Topics/Key Moments [00:08:35] Outsourcing IT department provides predictable revenue, hiring, and peace of mind for CEO. [00:09:42] Hiring full-time IT person expensive; diverse skills needed. [00:14:54] Entrepreneurs aim to prevent mistakes but acknowledge that some will still be made. [00:17:54] Entrepreneurship offers freedom, such as the ability to make spontaneous decisions and enjoy simple pleasures like going for walks. [00:22:01] Some doubt their fit, but for those with passion, challenges can be overcome. [00:23:23] Having a supportive community can greatly benefit entrepreneurs in overcoming challenges and increasing their chances of success.

Rael Bricker, The Excellence Guy, promotes the idea of being excellent – showing up as the best version of yourself (or your company) every day.
“In 2013 I was given a rude awakening when after a season of triathlons, I decided to run a marathon. All this was part of a plan before turning 50. Each time I ran, I experienced neck pain and it was discovered that I had two blocked arteries. I was the lucky one as I managed to dodge a bullet and ended up with two stents. Today I am probably back to close to my fitness and strength from 2013, but much more self aware of listening to my body This experience helped me to find my purpose in life. I found my purpose in sharing the experiences of journeying and achieving excellence with business owners and entrepreneurs around the world After 30+ years as a serial entrepreneur, in everything from education to finance to fitness, I’ve now made it my mission to share my knowledge and expertise with others. Seeing that light come on, and connections being made in people’s heads as to how they can weave my experiences and advice into their businesses reinforces that this is where I need to be."
From being 6000ft underground in a gold mine, to starting an education business (that grew to have 4000 plus students) to spending years working in venture capital, Rael Bricker has seen it all. He has listed companies on multiple international stock exchanges, and his financial services group has settled more than $3bn in loans over 21 years. Rael has the unique distinction of having sold more than $1bn in mortgages from stage. Rael’s diverse work history combined with unique global research interviews with companies in more than 25 countries allows him to work with leaders and managers on growing and achieving excellence, as he has experienced the rollercoaster himself and knows how to navigate the twists, turns and loops.

CASEY CAVALIERE IS AN AMERICAN RECORD PRODUCER, MIXING ENGINEER, SONGWRITER, AND ARTIST COACH.
His creative work ethic has been sculpted by a career spanning over two decades with his band The Wonder Years, including multiple Billboard chart-topping releases, extensive global touring, and the mentorship of music industry heavyweights.
This wealth of experience has galvanized his creative philosophy around trust, authenticity, experimentation, and self-discovery. His dedication to these ideals has cultivated insights that he draws upon at every stage of the creative process - helping you to discover and refine your artistic voice, and creating strategies to help you grow and amplify your music career.
His decades spent making records as both an artist and a producer has helped Casey cultivate an empathetic ear for the tough decisions and open-ended ideas that follow every musician throughout their creative careers. He understands how profoundly personal and paramount the process of actualizing an idea can be for an artist. For this reason, his production philosophy is heavily centered around understanding the inspiration, the story, and the artistic vision at the heart of every song he creates. Whether working remotely with an artist, or side by side in the studio, the job is the same: Identify and refine the crucial elements that make your song noteworthy, and amplify them until it’s unforgettable. Your record is the sum total of countless questions, big and small. Questions answered not only by you, but by those you trust to answer on your behalf. Above all, it's Casey's intention to use what he knows to help musicians choose wisely.
Alongside his work crafting compelling songs, productions, and mixes, Casey's path through the world of artist coaching is guided by care and kindness; it’s a style driven by honesty and an ear tuned to open-mindedness. No two artist's careers are the same, and Casey approaches the uniqueness of each project with the desire to unlock new creative avenues and a greater appreciation for the bigger picture. He understands that the magic of creation is a visceral and transcendent phenomenon that isn’t perfect each time. Becoming a “complete artist” is a bold venture down the road toward artistic fulfillment, with frequent stops for open communication and a journey marked by realistic goals. By prioritizing accountability and chasing the compounding domino effects of small ideas, Casey hops in the passenger seat and navigates clients towards a future where the authenticity and delivery of their work is disruptive and long-lasting, inspiring reactions long after the release date has come and gone.

Key Moments [00:00:28] Podcast host Seth welcomes CEO Mike Wiston from Japan, founder of Mopod, a podcast promotion engine. Mike is drinking 20-year-old whiskey. [00:06:16] Japanese culture values pride and dedication in all jobs; people are friendly and professional, with a focus on quality of life over money. [00:10:44] Podcasting is a discovery issue with many podcasts out there, including zombie episodes. Digital content disappears and podcasters can use tools like Mopod for a boost. It allows entrepreneurs to interact with others without doing ads. [00:14:16] Achieve organic growth before paid media. Validate with organic engine before spending money on growth. Example of newsletter with low open rates. Don't pay for media if not getting organic growth. [00:17:59] Uncertainty and risk come with entrepreneurship. Relying on one major client is financially dangerous. Diversify investments to avoid losing everything. [00:21:36] Facebook group started for pandemic karaoke leads to successful podcast featuring weekly theme songs. No negativity or monetization. Number 5 music podcast in US and Canada.

Rick is a local startup celebrity having started two startups in Philadelpha. His first was Boomi, which was bought by Dell, then spun out again and is still located in the Philadelphia area. His current startup is Guru, which is an internal communication tool for business.
Rick's entrepreneurial journey began: Rick bet big on the future of the cloud when he founded Boomi in 2000. The early years were tough though; he ran into some challenging chapters and has openly said that "Boomi 1.0 failed" — however, this failure taught him some lessons that later helped him build Boomi up to be acquired by Dell and to start Guru in 2013
Starting Guru: Rick often talks about Guru being born out of necessity — he saw that most intranets and wikis had painfully low adoption and usability, which meant that employees often didn't have access to the information needed to do their jobs. He founded Guru to offer companies a new way to solve this age-old problem.
The new world of work: as Rick guided Guru through the pandemic and shift to remote work, he formed strong opinions about the new world of work — a topic he's hugely passionate about these days — and believes that many companies are struggling to thrive in the remote-first world because they're still approaching challenges around productivity, employee engagement, and agility in with old-world thinking

Ryan Perri and a bunch of friends had an idea one night at a bar in South Philly. One of their friends was going through a rough patch. They wanted to cheer him up. They knew that if they just sent him cash via Venmo he'd probably just pocket the money and not get off the couch. So, over some brews they came up with an app called BruYou, where you can buy yourself or your friends' beers at local bars. Because the app pays the bar right away, the recipient has no choice but to go to that establishment to get the brew. After that night at the bar, Ryan and his friends knew they had something. Fast forward to late 2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic. The app morphed into a way to support your local watering hole. Now in 2022, BruYou is going strong, and this side hustle might become a main hustle soon.

Elyse went to UNC Chapel Hill and managed to never go to a basketball game. She was too busy working. Not necessarily because she needed to, but because she wanted to and enjoyed it. In college, Elyse wanted to be and journalist and editor, but then one day her professor revealed what an editor makes. That was when she decided on a different path — sales. After graduating college, Elyse went into sales and quickly learned that the way of selling didn't fit her style. After some time, she left and started sales coaching, which eventually lead to She Sells, an online mastermind for women salespeople, looking to get better at their craft. In this episode we talk about her journey as an entrepreneur and where that's led her to today.

When Kylee Pedrosa found out that her, then, 2-year-old daughter had Type 1 Diabetes, her whole world flipped upside down. Little did she know that it was the start to a whole new career path and entrepreneurial journey, that would bring her to today where she's a diabetes nutrition coach and nutritionist. Kylee, and yes, I'm a bit biased since she's a really good friend of mine, is fantastic. She takes a wholistic approach to diabetes both Type 1 and Type 2. He's all of that mixed into one amazing, friendly, helpful, lovable package. Travis has always been creative. He says it has to do with escaping from the reality of his parent's divorces and normal childhood issues. Instead of turning to drugs and alcohol as a kid he turned to creativity and started building stuff. In high school and right after, Travis, along with three friends started a semi-successful rock band and toured the country. After hitting a wall in success, Travis decided to take these talents and put them to good use. After taking a cubicle-hell job with an hour-long commute, he started listening to podcasts and knew he could help these creators sound better to match the quality of the content. Soon after his podcast/audio engineering agency was born. After the agency started, everything started to come together. Best of all Pod Decks, for which he's known for came about as a fluke and now is a 6-figure business for him. Tune in to hear the full story.
