Elders must aspire to the office, be above reproach, able to teach, leading well at home, not be a new convert and admired by outsiders.
The Law is Good! The Law is Laid Down for Sinners and the Gospel is lifted up for Salvation!
The Ascension is glorious and should be appreciated because it proves Christ's work of atonement is complete, accepted and sufficient. It proves that Christ has entered his office as high priest. It proves Christ is reigning as King.
Jesus is recognized as King, embraces His identity as King and is proclaimed and pursued as King.

We pray because we are Redeemed. Jesus warns how we are not to pray and instructs us on how we are to pray.
We are a people who are chosen by the Father, redeemed by the Son and sealed by the Spirit.
Boaz fulfills his promise to Ruth & Naomi to redeem them. While the nearest redeemer ahead of Boaz was not willing to pay the cost of their redemption, Boaz was. His honorable actions were blessed by the witnesses present. Jesus Christ is an even greater redeemer - who was willing to pay the penalty for our sin: death on the cross. His payment was sufficient and satisfied the wrath of God. This was evident through Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. All who trust in Christ alone for the forgiveness of their sins are redeemed, & have their sin debt paid for in full. Christ’s actions as our redeemer should likewise be blessed & declared to all people everywhere!
The plan for Rest (1-5), The Pursuit of Rest (6-9), The Promise of Rest (10-13) and the Patience for Rest (14-18).
Kindness is Seen in showing hospitality, provision & protection, extending generosity and in gentle correction.
Generosity is kind and necessary, rewarded by God, pleasing to God, an act of faith and a response to grace!

Our ability to rejoice in the Lord is amplified when our hearts are resting in the finished work of Christ alone.
Jesus sent out the 72 disciples to usher people into the Kingdom of God. While not everything in this passage is “prescriptive” there is good application for us today as for how we can faithfully & biblically engage the world evangelistically.

We must keep the cross of Christ in our “cross-hairs” if we are to have any hope of denying ourselves, picking up our cross and following Jesus. Our joyful obedience will be the byproduct of keeping our eyes on His.
There is no one on earth who is worthy of salvation. That's the whole point of the gospel. God came to save sinners who could not save themselves. However, it is clear that when a soul truly grasps what Christ has done for them on the cross, that which they could not have done for themselves, their life begins to look very different. That person now desires to LIVE for Christ & to HONOR Christ in all of their life… In short, they respond by joyfully living a life worthy of the gospel.And that is, in short, what Paul is urging the believers in Philippi to do: "let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ" (Phil 1:27). What are the components of a life "worthy of the gospel?" This passage gives us a few specific ones. It is important to see that while this applies to individual Christians, it is directed specifically to the church as one body! This is the way a CHURCH (corporately) is to live and operate for the glory of God.
The Lord our God is a majestic gracious God who is with his children and saves his children from their perils and sin.
God is sovereign over all things (the good, bad, and ugly). And God’s plan is unfolding exactly as He purposed. God (surprisingly) uses great adversity to advance His gospel message to the ends of the earth. Our trials and suffering have no power to stop us (or even slow us down) from fulfilling the task God has given us to glorify Him with our lives & make disciples of all nations. We are called as His saints to work together to advance the gospel in the world, through the church, and with purest joy!
In this passage we get a window not only into the heart of a pastor, but the prayer of a pastor for a congregation that he loves. 1. Paul first shares that he gives thanks to God for the Philippians and for their partnership with Him in the gospel. 2. Then, Paul reminds them of God’s faithfulness to believers to finish what He begins. This helps them (and us) endure in gospel ministry (which is very hard). 3. Lastly, Paul prays specifically that God would help them progress in the faith to the glory and praise of God.
The opening greeting of this letter is uniquely Christian... it reminds us of (1) WHO we are in Christ, and (2) HOW we are to live for Christ
A true Christian shows no partiality towards others because we imitate God’s perfect love demonstrated in Christ, who is the fulfillment of the Law and Prophets.
We must first die to ourselves, and then be raised with Christ (death is the road to Glory); we are each unique in design and calling and our calling is to bear witness to him; we will share in Christ’s glory with him; we have victory in Christ (oh death, where is your sting?)
The Gospel is the power of God. His power is sufficient to redeem the worst in humanity both among unbelievers and believers, because of Christ. God’s righteousness is the thing that sets everything right in the world: the most vile of evils, broken relationship, and even death itself.
God and God alone stipulates, speaks, safely guides, sees beyond, selects, strengthens, and specifies when His work is complete.

A true believer has pure speech, puts their faith into action, and keeps themselves unstained from worldliness.

To be able to say "He is Risen Indeed!" results in a transformed life and and expectant hope!
Our theology propels our doxology into Christ-centered, God-glorifying worship that takes its direction from God’s word itself.
A Christian’s fellowship and unity with other believers is made possible by the love of God in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, so that we would be mature and fully assured.
The believer's outward focus, inward disposition and life: reflecting Christ in everything
If we have been raised with Christ we are to seek the things that are above, where Christ is. We have died and our life is hidden with Christ in God.
God's faithfulness is shown in trials of our faith, for which he promises wisdom and eternal rewards by his endless mercy and generosity.
Paul boasts in his weaknesses as they are grounds for demonstrating God's power and grace.

A collision with Jesus results in a powerful transformation through the sovereign work of God in The Gospel.
John shows us in this text that Jesus is an amazing Savior who through The Gospel has set believers free from sin’s power and sin’s penalty/condemnation. In I John 2:1-2, John writes to sin compromisers and self-condemners about how they are to respond to sin in their lives. Further, those still condemned can come to Jesus for forgiveness by grace through faith in Christ.
We are called to redeem our time by imitating God, avoiding false teaching, living in the light and making the most of the time.
Pentecost was a watershed moment in the history of Christ’s church as the Holy Spirit came to indwell each of God’s people, thus ful lling God’s promise of a New Covenant. The result is that all Christians have the Spirit of God dwelling in them and empowering them to live for Christ.
Jesus says and demonstrates that He is the “resurrection and the life.” This truth assures us that all who have trusted in Christ will be raised to a glorious eternity with God.
While the crowds celebrate Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, they shout “crucify” on Good Friday, thus demonstrating the self-serving false discipleship of the multitudes. We, on the other hand, must be crystal clear who Jesus really is and follow him unconditionally.
Noah, who serves as a mediating priest, offers a sacrifice resulting in God’s covenant never again to destroy the earth through flood. Jesus, the greater than Noah, who serves as our Great High Priest, offers the perfect sacrifice of Himself, resulting in the forgiveness of all of our sin and God’s ultimate act salvation through judgment and eternal peace with God.
While God judges the entire world due to the depravity of all who inhabit it, His amazing grace is on display as He saves the “seed of the woman,” thus preserving the promise of the gospel by saving Noah and his family from the flood.
Jesus teaches us to have realistic expectations of what life and ministry looks like in His “inaugurated Kingdom.” Such expectations management is helpful for our encouragement and even perseverance as we serve Him in the midst of great opposition.
In this chapter we see the birth of Adam and Eve’s first two sons with the firstborn killing the second born and the ungodly line of Cain culminating in the polygamist Lamech, who boasts of his killing. While the “seed of the woman” (who would one day crush the head of the seed of the serpent) appears to be dead, God provides a resurrection of the line with the birth of Seth and men begin to call upon the name of Yahweh.

A crucial component of the “very good” of Genesis 1:31 is seen in God’s provision of a wife/helpmate for the man (Gen. 2:18-25). This one-flesh union between one man and one woman is the pattern for all subsequent marriages and was in fact designed from the very beginning to point people to the union between Christ and His Bride (Eph. 5:22-32).
Adam and Eve were created to have perfect fellowship with God in His Garden-Temple, being commissioned to work it, guard it, and expand it’s boundaries to cover the whole earth. Adam and Eve failed their mission when they sinned and thus God has been working out his gracious plan of redemption through the Lord Jesus Christ that will end in God’s Garden-Temple that covers the whole of the New Heavens and New Earth.

The book of Genesis recounts God’s creation of a perfect world, the fall of man, God’s judgment and the unfolding promise of the gospel. It’s here we first learn that God is not only the all powerful transcendent creator, but is also our loving and gracious heavenly Father who goes to magnificent lengths to redeem His people.
Christmas is all about the glory of God in the salvation of sinners. God the Son adds flesh to His divinity and enters into the world he created, in order to rescue us from the curse we brought upon ourselves.

In response to Daniel’s prayer, God’s messenger comforts Daniel and bolsters his courage by offering him a glimpse of certain future events as well as a glimpse into some of God’s current unseen work.

Regardless of what’s going on around us, God’s people can always have confidence that God is the sovereign King over all earthly kings and that He’s in control of the rise and fall of all kings and kingdoms.
Our sovereign God delivers His people from the worst imaginable fire; namely, the fires of hell. Those He’s saved are called to be faithful to Him in the midst of all trials, knowing that He’s with us as we live as exiles awaiting final redemption.
Our God, who is sovereign over raising up and removing kings and kingdoms, reveals that He will ultimately replace all human kingdoms with an everlasting kingdom. Such a message is wonderful for news for all of God’s people who live in a fallen world that is currently in rebellion against God.
