Life in Small Business will aim to educate – and entertain – small business owners as we cover a broad range of topics that are critical to the ever-changing environment around them. We hope to have a top 50 business-related podcast among podcasts originating from Southwestern Ontario recorded by people named Trevor and Colin.
After a brief hiatus, the Life in Small Business podcast returns to tackle the topic of mitigating transition risks as you approach a potential exit. We create a hypothetical scenario to help identify and critically assess how well positioned your business is to transfer value to the next generation of ownership – because your financial wellbeing might depend on it.
During one of our favourite weeks of the year (The Masters!), we introduce our brand-new way of delivering our services to our clients, with the launch of our interactive online tool The EKSiT Outlook. We relate it back to the world of small business and talk about how you can evolve to be ready for the threats that you can’t see coming.
The Blue Jays, the Raptors, and the Nash Equilibrium. They can all teach us something about small business, and maximizing your chances of success (specifically when it comes to getting return on the investments you make in your people). We offer insights on how to better understand your environment to ensure you build a team positioned for success – and we attempt to ease the minds of disgruntled Blue Jays’ fans.
We reach back into our own pasts to talk about the ties between being an athlete/competitor and the world of business. Whether it’s understanding the nuance that separates coaching and managing, or looking at the physiological benefits of being in competition, we explore the ties between sports and business.
We take a look at the long-established (and at times outdated) concepts of “Mission” and “Vision” and how they apply to the world of small business. We also dive into a deeper discussion on a more modern concept for creating a living, breathing, brand that truly resonates with your customers, while offering some insights into how we evaluated our own brand to better understand the actions we wanted to take.
In this episode, we discuss the growing impact that technology has on the world of small business. Whether it’s understanding the continued (and growing) reliance your employees have on mobile phones or thinking about Moore’s Law and what it means for your business, we discuss the pace at which technological disruption continues to advance in the world of business – even tracing it back to a story about an Indian Emperor that predicted it all.
Introduction to the Life in Small Business podcast, highlighting what we’ll be discussing in this and future editions of the podcast. In this session, we talk about the importance of setting personal and business-related goals to set yourself up for success as we begin a new year. More than just the tired notion of “New Years Resolutions”, we delve into real and (crucially) measurable goals that impact business in ways you might not even consider.
