This week it’s a show of synchronicity for Jane, as her book The Next Room connected her with Lisa Warren, who then introduced her to her friend Dr. Shelley Lynch. In 2016 Shelley’s husband Roy suffered a heart attack and left her side, or…did he? Tune in this week as Jane finds out how Shelley’s husband showed up for her after he departed life as we know it. Jane met Glenda through the Beautiful Dying Expo and was instantly drawn to her positive attitude. I met Donna Rewald through a collaborative effort on grief and afterlife. Donna’s story will appear in an upcoming anthology book, a mission-driven project currently being compiled by Camille Dan. The anthology will be a collection of stories in chapters written by several dozen authors from different backgrounds, ages, walks of life, religions, beliefs, stories, and histories who all share something in common from their loved ones across the veil: signs and messages. While the signs may differ and come in different forms, and the messages may be unique and personal, they all come from loved ones who have passed, they are all loving, and they often come at the time our loved ones are being thought about by us. This collection of stories will be validating, comforting, hopeful and helpful. Coming out later this year, with proceeds of all sales to benefit mental health and addiction care and research, bereavement support services, Helping Parents Heal, and Forever Family Foundation.

When Jane heard that Patch Adams was going to be a keynote speaker at the Beautiful Dying Expo she knew she had to book him on The Next Room. Patch made a decision at the age of 18 to never have another bad day in his life. He focused his energy on 6 qualities for his life and they are: happy, loving, cooperative, creative, funny and thoughtful. He founded the Gesundheit Institute a 501 (c) 3 non-profit healthcare organization whose mission is to reframe and reclaim the concept of “hospital." Jane was introduced to Sue Fredrick through her friend, Unity Reverend Richard Carlini. The connection was immediate between the two woman. Jane speaks with Conrad Leslie this week about the unfathomable pain he and his wife Paola experienced in losing their only child. Nicolas was 20 years old and a junior at UC Berkeley when he was accepted to attend an innovative study abroad program held in Nice, France. He was walking with a group of students that night along the Promenade Anglaise in Nice during the Bastille Day celebration. He was having the time of his life, strolling down the promenade and looking up at the fireworks when he was struck down from behind by a large white truck that was used as a weapon of mass destruction by the terrorist. As heart-wrenching as this story is, it is still bathed in a warm feeling of joy. Nicolas is reaching out to Conrad and Paola, and they are listening. Jane was introduced to Susan through a mutual connection, Casey Gauntt. After one zoom call, they became fast friends. After a 20 year career as a teacher and social worker Susan made a life altering pivot. She is now working with groups of youth and adults who are learning to navigate life with grief and trauma. This includes at-risk teens, families with medical challenges, bereaved parents and young widows with children. In this interview you’ll find out what happened to Susan in 2012 that started her along this fascinating journey of healing. One of the positive aspects of social media is connecting with individuals with unique and beautiful stories. That’s how this show came to be. Jane noticed several posts from a young man who was writing from an authentic, raw, powerful but simplistic place. She reached out, he said yes, "I’d love to tell my story.” In 2016 John Polo was only 31 when the love of his life, his wife Michelle died from cancer. He didn’t care to go on with living until one day he decided that if he was to find hope again he needed to stay in hope. John rose up and is now helping other’s to shine. Recently Jane saw a post from her friend Kimberly of Morbid Curiosity talking about an app she enjoyed, called WeCroak. Of course, Jane was curious and started following WeCroak on Twitter. She sent a private message to them asking if they wanted to come on the show, the response back was, “Sure, we love talking about death.” Jane welcomes Hansa Bergwall on the show who co-created WeCroak with Ian Thomas. The app is inspired by a Bhutanese folk saying: to be a happy person, one must contemplate death five times daily. The show covers mindfulness and happiness and through death contemplation and meditation. Hansa delivered one of the most humorous answers to Jane’s favorite question, what’s in The Next Room? Serendipitous moments and messages from beyond the veil are peppered through-out this show. Jane was introduced to Casey Gauntt through another mutual friend, Jesse Brisendine. Casey suffered an unfathomable loss when his son Jimmy was killed when he was struck by a vehicle in 2008. What unfolds in Casey and Jimmy’s story is one of mystical and spiritual proportions. His book “Suffering Is The Only Honest Work” made me weep, smile and have goosebumps on regular intervals. Casey’s second book “When The Veil Comes Down” assembles what he has learned over the last 12 years as he’s walked along side many friends plunged in their own grief and suffering. When author Kathleen Vallee Stein sent Jane her book “Loving Choices, Peaceful Passing” she couldn’t wait to dig in. The story is raw, authentic, sad, beautiful and uplifting all at once. This is Kathleen’s story about how her family chose hospice at home for her father’s final 29 days of life and all of the struggles leading up to this decision. It’s a book with an enormous amount of truth and grace. Jane met Irene Weinberg through their mutual friend Pam Oslie. Her story is fascinating and takes you on her journey from being a traditional jewish woman to a deep, spiritual healer. Her beloved husband, Saul, died in a horrific automobile accident and Irene received a message that very night. Jane was playing around on Twitter when she found a Twitter account for Morbid Curiosity: A Game About Death. Immediately intrigued, she sent a DM to them to inquire about having them on the show.
