welcome back to the Bushnell project John Bushnell here as we continue to encourage one another in reading God's word finding peace in the midst of a storm maybe and a really getting to know God's the story of God and we' in the middle of the story of David and Goliath and Jonathan and Saul, but it's it's God's story. And so it can get confusing. We talked about how sometimes it's written we're gonna get some clarity here as we continue in chapter 18 our first Samuel.ond this relationship with David and Saul, David had been in Saul's um employment, if you will, playing the harp to sue the spirit that was upon him, a spirit sent from God a a evil spirit and so that that's going on and then they all go to war and so David's not doing that and so he's helping his father with the sheep and his father sends him after 40 days to go find out what's happening and to take some provisions to his brothers. He does that he seizes Goliate, he takes out Goliate. and Saul's impressed who is this guy, Jonathan knits his soul, basically his heart. soul to the Bible's his soul, so souls will go with that to David. and and now we're gonna have basically the parade..oliias and the Philippines beams. being destroyed. So that's we're at chapter 18 verse six is they were coming home when Davy returned from striking down the philistine. the women came out of all the cities of Israel singing and dancing to meet king Saul with tambourines with songs of joy and with musical instruments, and the women sang to one another as they celebrated Saul has struck down his thousands, and David, his ten thousands. Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, they have ascribed to David 10 thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands, and what more can he have but the kingdom? and so I David from that day on the next day a harmful spirit from God rushed upon soul, and he raved within his house, while David was playing the lyre as he did day by day, Saul had his spear in his hand, and Saul hurled the spear, for he thought I will pin David to the wall, for David evaded him twice. Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with him, but had departed from Saul. So Saul removed him from his presence and made him a commander of a thousand, and he went out and came in before the people, and David had a success in all his undertakings, for the Lord was with him, and when Saul saw that he had great success, he stood in fearful awe of him, but all of Israel and Judah loved David, for he went out and came in before them. and we'll stop there, 16 so many know the story. This is that time when King saw throw a sphere at David. misses him or David evades it as the Bible says, and then he tries with the can, so says twice there was it twice in a few seconds or was it twice in a few hours. Nevertheless, David is now going to be in charge of a thousand men. command over a thousand men, so that he's not in Saul's presence playing the lear more. or the liar. So David's fame is growing rapidly, and Saul is very, very jealous. And one of the things to realize here is this this jealousy, this rage, all this comes from a man who no longer as the spirit of God. And but this rage and his anger is going toward a man who does how the spirit of God and notice David's response, he doesn't he doesn't defend himself. He doesn't attack back. He doesn't. uh repel the evil with evil. and for us, I think today us Christians that's a good thing for us to look at is how do we press on a life even when people treat us wrong or people treat us in a way that they shouldn't. yet how do we respond to that? What our our response for people who are filled with the Holy Spirit, who know that they are saved by God's grace because of what Jesus did on the cross outside of Jerusalem, and that God raised him from the dead and that he is seated Jesus at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us, so that when people do something wrong to us, why should we lash out? We know t

Moses continues to exhort the people to obey, stay on course, don’t get side tracked, stay on Gods plan
Moses sets up the second speech with a brief of what he is going to say, location, and brief history…
Aaron has died, his son takes over as high priest, the new army takes on the Canaanites (King of Arab). This leads to our section today, but is not mentioned in this part of Deut.
Nor is the bronze serpent
The beginning of Numbers shows us just how particle God is and the wisdom by which He leads Moses and the people. Levites set apart to be the all in all for the tent of meetings and courtyard
In Numbers 20 God instructs Moses to speak to the rock, for it to give up its water. Does he?
Continuing on with the details of the clothes. The blue robe, coats, turban waist band, gold crown.
Garments, the ephod with shoulder pieces, the breast piece with four rows of stones, 12 in all, representing the 12 tribes of Israel
Here we see all that needs to be given, out of generous hearts, in materials and in talent for the tent of meetings to be constructed
Verses 1-3… huge gathering, and what is brought up first??? Work 6 days… yes, but the important part is how you spend the 7th day
Gif calls His people out, and calls them a stiff-necked people that He would consume by fire. But does He?
So much in this chapter that can quickly confuse the lite reader. You have to laugh at Aaron as he try’s to distance himself .. and out came this calf… (vs 24) to the Levites being instructed to go kill… to Moses repenting for the people before God. Side note, today is December 7th and we remember the 3000 Americans killed this day back in 1941… in this chapter about 3000 are killed as well.
Moses saves the people from Gods anger, but not from his anger… oh and we have singing here.
A simple alter, 1.5 feet wide and deep and 3 feet high. Covered in gold of course with a simple way to carry it.
God gives very specific details on how Aaron and his sons are to be consecrated to the Lord. This will be carried out in Leviticus 8
God has worked out the details, and it is practical, mobile, and it is for us, and for His glory.
Need structure for all these curtains
Just like we need structure for our lives and for the Worship of God
The third piece of furniture that Moses is to have built for the tent of meetings. And yes of course built out of pure gold
Exodus 25:23-30
The first piece of furniture for the holy place, just outside of the holy if holes where the Ark of the Covenant is.
In Exodus 25, God is laying out details if the furniture that He wants made for His dwelling place. Great details, and great practicality. And today, we have Gods Word that we can carry with us everywhere, even on our phones, but should also be in our hearts.
Exodus 23:14-19
Three feast we are to keep, plus be sure not to miss use any of Gods creation… ie, vs 19b “… you shall not boil a young goat n its mother’s milk.”
Who does that?
What does it mean?
Doing what’s right, even when it helps your enemy or someone who hates you… crazy right?
God has set His people aside, to worship Him. He is getting into the nuts and bolts on how He wants them to behave, act and respond… and we will see as we continue, worship Him
Continuing with some good logical laws for communities to grow. Plus a little dating advice…
God made us in His imagine, and takes it seriously when someone plays god and takes a life.
This is hard for us to wrap our mind around. Remember too they just came out of 400 years of being slaves themselves… so what gives? Well you have to eat and pay back your debts. No banks back then.
What is murder? Killing God’s imagine bearer, from beginning to end, God does not bend on this.

Exodus 20:8-11 maps out for us the fourth commandment. How should we apply this to our very modern lives?
4th of July and History, and the Bible and reading it.
I mentioned on the last podcast about how Amalek did not fear God and that he attack the rear of Moses people traveling in the wilderness. How did I know that? Dear. 25:17-19 tells us:)
God once again comes through, while showing Moses just how weak he is. All good, because, we are not God, nor is Moses. We have a part to do, and we need to do it, but it is dependent on God coming through. And He is Fsithful
Eat meat? I do. I love it. Quail? Not so much, but that was on the menu. Daily. God provides, we enjoy, and we worship.
Just three days after the crossing of the Red Sea, just three days from such an amazing miracle, just three days from singing Gods praises, and they start to complain.
Our God is worthy of all of our praise. He is looking for us to worship Him in spirit and in truth.
This is a great test for Israel, and they show their true colors right away. But we all do, don’t we. When it hits the fan, our real flesh comes out. Oh we of little faith. But God is faithful.
God lead them out of Egypt with a strong hand… repeated three times in this short passage
Death is very final. For those who do not believe in the Living God and the resurrection to come in Christ Jesus, death is it, but there is more. Damnation for ever or heaven. In a heart beat, Israel heard the pain of death while escaping it. How about you?
At the beginning of Exodus 12, we get many of the details that are given, that is Passover. What a great God we serve
Exodus 10:21-end tells of this complete darkness that could be felt, that fell on all of Egypt for three days… so there is nothing that can easily explain it away. This flys in the face of the chief god of Egypt, Ra, the sun god. What god are you worshipping in place of the living God?
The 8th plague destroys all that is left from the others… but even with nothing to eat, Pharaohs pride rules
The sixth and seventh plagues hit hard, even against the beast. God is claiming what is His. Are you fighting with Him over ownership?
Exodus 9 we see God deal a death blow to Pharaoh, who still hardens his heart. How about you? Heart still hardened toward God?
There is but one true and living God. All others are man made. Here in Exodus 8 God throws it in Pharaohs face:)
Exodus 8:1-19 is the frog plague and the last one where the wise men try to imitate Moses. After this, they are unable to imitate Moses. And Pharaoh is not impressed by his own wise men. And pharaoh goes back on his word.
Proverbs 31:26-27. Speaks of a mother and wife and her fruitfulness. As I experience my first Mother’s Day and now birthday without a mom, I am reflecting on the great gift from God of a God fearing mom. Rest In Peace Mom, you did an amazing job through so much change and even wars… April 1932 to May of 2022. To God be the glory
Everything God does through Moses and Aaron, the magicians of Pharaoh try too. But can they be like Hod?
Can you?
God sets up Moses as a god. Yep, God is willing to come down to earth to play head to head. Poor Pharaoh, has no chance. How about you? Have you made gods?
We think what God has already done is awesome, and it is, but in this passage, God is saying… oh you ain’t seen anything yet…
With new confidence Moses and Aaron go to Pharaoh and say those famous words, “let my people go…”. But just as God had said, it does not go over well with Pharaoh.
How are your plans working out?
Quick closing to this chapter, but a lot of travel happens here. On top of that, Moses finds that everything God said would happen, happens, and the people believe Moses and the story that he and Aaron telll them. Great worship happens here at the end... and no lights, or darken rooms where needed... oh, and no music... of course they may have broken out in dancing.
Some strange and easily forgotten aspects of Moses journey. What simple thing are you forgetting to do?
Moses gets a bad wrap, but is he not a lot like you and me? He is not living like God wants him too, and now that God is asking him to do something for God... he has doubts.
We are quick to criticize Moses, but are we not all like Moses when it comes to our faith and how we truly walk out what we supposedly believe? Are we God's elect? headed toward heaven (our true home), enjoying the inheritance with Jesus, the Creator of all things?
God is always faithful, and He is at work, even today. We need to join Him in His kingdom building, which may mean putting aside our own kingdom.
God is going to get it done... will Moses catch on, it is not his abilities? But just his obedience.
How about you? Not sacrifice, but Obedience.
Here in Exodus 3 we have this encounter with the Creator of the Universe and one of His creations, Moses. Something happens against the laws of nature, and the great I AM shows us that Time has no control of Him, or that He is affected by Time.
John A Bushnell passed away in my arms late Friday night, officially at 12:32 am on Saturday. Born in 1933, he lived a great life. Miss you dad.
Moses quickly steps into handling injustice… wrongly, but seems to learn from it, and adjust his next response
The hero here are two woman, but the story is still about the great and faithful God that they fear.
As we grow in the Lord, we must stay humble. Here in Psalm 19:12-14, we see that we must allow God to show us our sin, as well as helping us stay away from those sins that so easy clings to us (Hebrews 12:1).

Our God is faithful
Amazing creation
God is telling of himself in all things.
Psalms 19 is one of my favorite. It is clear, short, and tells us so much about God, His Law, and us, His creation. What is your favorite Psalm?
How peaceful it is to grow old in the middle of God's will, seeing our grand children and great grandchildren and maybe beyound.
Here in Genesis 50 we are concluding this amazing book about God, as we see Joseph forgiving his brothers for what they did to him 39 years earlier.
OK, I don't know if it was, but show me some historical document that has one? This is a huge multi day funeral march with a seven day pause to mourn the death of WHO? Jacob, also known as Israel, the son of Issac, the son of Abraham. Jacob, the blessed man of the living God. Jacob, the father of Joseph.
Jacob blesses Joseph's sons, and elevating the second born.
Joseph is elevated to oldest too, but that would not be the line that God uses.
Only 17 years has this small tribe been in the land of Egypt, coming with very little, and now being very prosperous. Five of those years during a famine, and then at least two years to come out of it as a land.
Don't give up, God is not done, He is about doing a great work in our times.
Interesting passage here.
For the "government" of Egypt to feed the starving, the starving had to give up all they had, including their land and them selves. Interesting. Of course Egypt survived.
Joseph is the man.
Even in the mist of everything, he still has a plan, and keeps things moving.
Here we see the meeting of Joseph with his father, Israel (Jacob) after some 15 plus years of separation, and really of Israel thinking Joseph was dead. But the reunion is short and right away Joseph the great strategist starts giving advice to his family on what to say to Pharaoh.
Very interesting how each time Israel seems to be in crisis that it is the crisis that finally has him going before the Lord. Is that just me?
Here at the end of Genesis 42 (18 to the end), we see Joseph's brothers knowing they are guilty of their brother's blood (Joseph) try to act all honest (we find out later that they answered questions because they were asked directly of them, so they did not offer up info freely, and as they depart and find they still have their money, their first response is not to return it, but to think they are in more trouble. Their father, when they return, fails to act as well. Lesson, inaction is not a right action.
Joseph recognizes his brothers, while they do not recognize him... will Joseph seek revenge? Or will he show grace and mercy and forgive his brothers??
Journaling as you read the Bible is a great idea.
You don't need to write much, but you should write something. What verse hit you the hardest or seemed to feed your soul? What prayers came to mind or thoughts about God. Keep it short at first. You can also add things that are happening in your life. Remember you are writing this journal for you, not anyone else.
Genesis 42 has Josephs father admitting that they are desperate, so desperate that he sends all of his oldest son, 10 of them, to Egypt to try and buy granin... oh this story just gets better.
Got sick pretty back December 13th - 26th, and am still recovering.
My wife got it at the same time, but she has recovered much quicker.

Our Hope is in Jesus. Back before Jesus came as a baby, the hope was that he would come. Today, our hope is in Jesus return. What are your thoughts on that?
The prophets told their people to have hope, the Messiah is coming.
For those of us since the coming of the Messiah, we have the hope of His return.
Genesis 41 finishes up with Joseph going from having just spend years in prison, to the ultimate leader (second only to Pharaoh) of the greatest nation on the planet at the time.
Character matters
God's hand on your life matters.
Genesis 41 brings us to a dream that leads to Joseph becoming in charge of Egypt. What a promotion, from in the pit (prison) to top guy only under Pharaoh.
A cupbearer and a baker... both in prison, both having dreams, and both have Joseph tell them the meanings of their dreams. Good and bad.
Introduction to this chapter, and noticing that Joseph pays attention to those around him, noting their mood and caring.
Joseph stands his guard, living his life to glorify God, no matter what.
Contrast this with his brother Judah
Joseph succeeds even as a prisoner in prison.
"laugh at me" can mean make fun of someone or caressing.
Genesis is authored by Moses, as well as the rest of he Pentateuch. Moses is not living during any part of Genesis, as he is for the other 4 books, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. It is logical to see that eye witness did write much of Genesis, that is "edited" by Moses. "These are the generations of..." is the start of that eye-witnesses "tablets". So Joseph will end up with his father's (Jacob/Israel) as well as those handed down to him since Adam.
These tablets with their "generations" written on them were known as toledoth in Hebrew which we have translated Genesis.
Side note, Genesis is cited over 200 times in the New Testament, but never gives Moses credit, while there are at least 40 other times where the other four books Moses wrote are quoted and he is listed. Even a few times in the OT, that the four books are cited and credited to Moses, by never Genesis.
Genesis 39 takes us back to the story of Joseph who has been sold by his brothers into slavery.
He ends up at the head of security in Egypt. God's hand is on him, and it is so obvious, that the Egyptians all see it.
What a contrast from chapter 38 to 39
We pause from the story of Joseph, to hear the story of Judah. Why?
Well, Jesus is from the tribe of Judah, so who is this Judah? Well, he sold his brother into slavery, and then...
Not a perfect guy.
Genesis 36 is the book of record (Toledoth) of Esua, Jacob's twin brother.
He gets a 40 year jump on Jacob in starting a family
Refecting again on Deborah again, who might have been 15 when she is given to her "master" Rebekah, who then travels and moves 550 miles to marry Issac. 20 years later Rebekah would have twins, one of them being Jacob who, when he is 105 years old, buries Debrah, who had served his mother and him. WOW
OK, we also finished chapter 35 which leads us to the end of Issacs life.
So in one chapter, three key people in Jacob's life (Israel). 1... a most impressive servant, 2. his most beloved wife, Rachel, and then his father Isaac. Welcome to the promised land.
Genesis 35:5-15
As they journey toward Bethel, to get back on track with God as a family and a tribe, Jacob pauses to bury a most loyal servant, one that his mother had for more than 20 years before Jacob was even born. After that, God visits Jacob AGAIN, and changes his name AGAIN to Israel. Jacob finally builds what he said he would build it when he first went to get a wife some 30 years earlier.
And 37 years ago, I got married to my amazing wife, Beth. happy anniversary babe:)
Genesis 35 is a huge transitional chapter in Jacobs life. Here in the first few verses, we see God Jacob coming out of a very traumatic episode with his family and having God show up to help give him direction.
How are you doing? Are you on course with God? Jacob was not all together there, and his family most certainly was NOT.
There are so many positive things happening in the world today, and in America, and in the Church. Today, though, i am going off on a rant about some of the foolishness in our culture today. Let me know what you think.
Here in Genesis 34 we see how Simeon and Levi slaughter the men of the city. Not the right response, but it is what they did.

It has been 100 years since the tomb of the unknown at Arlington National Cemetery.
The history is rich at ANC, worth reading and worth visiting. I have the honor of being there leading close to a dozen tours a year, and it is a hit.
!00 years ago today, the remains of one unknown from World War 1 (Although not know by that name then), was buried there. Since then others from other wars have joined the first unknown. They represent ALL of those who die in war who we are unable to identify or who are still missing.
Proverbs 10:7 "The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot."
In the USA, it has been said by some visiting from other countries, that we take better care of our dead then they do of their living. Let's keep moving forward.

Here is Genesis 34: 5-12, we see Jacob, the father of Dinah who has been raped, does nothing until his sons return, and we will see how he will still do nothing, as his sons take charge.
How often to we stay out of a situation cause we are not sure of ourselves, or scared to respond? God calls us to respond... but not as they will in this chapter.
Genesis 33:12-end (20)
We are who we are. Once you really know someone, they will not disappoint you, they will be who they are.
Who are you really?
This is the amazing story of Jacob becoming Israel.
He is so stressed about leaving his father in law and now headed to be reunited with Esau... and he finally yields to God and becomes a true worshiper of the Lord God.
What is eating your lunch? Jacob is very worried about his reunion with his twin brother
Genesis 31 continues with Laban catching up to Jacob, but God has appeared to Laban in a dream, and has put a little fear into his head.
Genesis 31 continues with Jacob finally getting up the never, and being told by God, fleas the land of his father in law. Jacob has become very wealthy, so much so that his father in law and family are very bitter toward Jacob... funny how that works
Jacob waste no time, and in just six years he will gain through hard work and paying attention to the details, a lot of wealth.
Genesis 30 - 33 is the story of Jacob finally earning wealth, and leaving his father in laws land to return to his own land, the land of Abraham and Issac.
We will spend some time in this, but here we see some of Jacobs talent with the animals, and the wealth his is blessed with in just six years.
In 7 to 8 years Jacob will father 11 sons from 4 "wives". He also will have a daughter. An he is 84 when he gets married... no young man.
Jacob starts off at 84 with two wives, has four sons by one of them, then gets another wife (servant of one of his wives) and has two more sons. And his second wife gives him her maid servant and she has to sons... and it then there is even more, but that is all we have time for today... Busy guy.
Genesis 29
Jacob travels to the land from which his mother came, over 550 miles away. Here he meets his cousin and uncle for the first time (That we know about).
Jacob is now around 77 years old.
what is the difference between 1 million and 1 billion? and 1 billion and 1 trillion?
Think in seconds,
1 million second = how long?
and 1 billion seconds?
and 1 trillion seconds?
Looking at current affairs, and what is going on in Genesis 28.
Esua is acting much like many people today... ouch.
Genesis 27:41-46, as we finish this chapter, we see just how imperfect this family is, the family on the planet that is blessed by God, and once again, we have one son wanting to kill the other.
We have a mother who wants to be in control.
We have a son who will now run for his life, and into more trickery, so you can say he is headed to sleep in the bed he has made.
Nothing new here.
Here we see in Genesis 27:30-40 that the one to be blessed is blessed and that Issac is quick to realize that. He knows that God is in control. Do you?
We continue in Genesis 27, looking at vs 18-29. Oh the trickery, the lack of truth... need i say more.
Genesis 27 if a most interesting chapter. Here we look at the first 17 verses. Oh the details...
Genesis 26:34-35
Interesting end of this chapter, and transition into the next.
Are we making our loved ones regret having us around?
First time sowing seed is used in the Bible, cool right.
Have land? You are going to want water... just like Issac. Be resourceful.
Isaac and his wife Rebekah are visibly in love. And they are not young. Isaac is 80 or older at this point, maybe even 100 years old. So what's our excuse?
Here in Genesis 26: 6-16 we find these two not fooling anyone. They are married.
Is it possible to be starving and not know it? Maybe not, but maybe malnourished and not know it right? Feast on God's Word for a full month and good solid teaching every day for a month, and then ask yourself the same question.
FYI... Edom, in Hebrew is similar to the word red. (Esau)
So do your emotions control you? Your stomach?
Hebrews 12:1-2, Deal with your own sin... confess
Set aside everything that is keeping your from staying focused on the main thing
Increase the ministry of the Word in your life, read it, memorize it, speak it, Col 3:16 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and gyms and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God."
Meet with like minded believers more often. 3 times a month is not enough. Once a week is not enough.
Do not feed your fears... do not fall into the trap of borders and prepares.
1 Peter 1:13, 1 Cor 14:20: Be Salt and Light. Live out of the VICTORY we have in Jesus, and not as losers trying to save your own life. Mark 8:35.

MAPS, defending the greatest book ever
Manuscript test, today we talk about the eye witness part and the external evidence, which the Bible has plenty.
Then we get into the A of MAPS, Archaeology, and it is amazing with over 20000 archaeology finds that ALL back up the Bible and so far, none that find a contradiction in the Bible.
The Bible is amazing. Reliable in every way. Don't take my word for it. put it up against the Manuscript tests.
Read the book, Son of Hamas, by Mosab Hassan Yousef and Ron Brackin. This will help you better understand the middle east. We Americans get it wrong ALL the time.
Isaac prays for his wife Rebekah to have children. 20 years go by from the time they were married until the twins are born... at what point did Isaac start praying?
His dad is still alive, having new kids with a new woman... is Isaac really the one God is going to use to raise up a people for God? What is God doing?
We should be praying as if our prayer life was what held our life and vision together, and allowing God to keep us on track as we pray through His Word, ad we pray for those things He puts on our hearts, and those things He clearly tells us to pray about and for. So go pray.
11 times in Genesis we read, These are the generations of....
Generations is from the Hebrew word Toledoth, which the Greeks translated Genesis.
Can we trust the Bible? Shem out lives Abraham. Keep listing as I am going to go on an adventure theses next few days, maybe weeks to unpack why the Bible is the most reliable book and most amazing book in the world.
Here we have Isaac and Ishmael coming together and laying aside any differences they may have had to properly bury their father. It is a sign of maturity, something that i see missing today.
Today, we are seeing the a culture that is putting less and less stoke in the role of a stay at home mom. I think this is a huge mistake. For mom's who have no choice, my hat is off to you. For many though, they have a choice; is it best? Good Better BEST!
Nothing new here, but think of the accuracy of the Bible, and the history it gives us. God is faithful
Here is the end of this great story, and you have to reflect on the role of the Holy Spirit, coming to find us and lead us back to Jesus. And now the roll of the Holy Spirit using us as the servant to go and find the lost and bring them to Jesus.
As we continue in Genesis 24, we find the servant of Abraham recounting for us the story of his prayer and meeting Rebekah. The family decides he can take her for his master, and there is worship and a party. How quick are you to worship God? How quick are you willing to change everything in your life to follow God's will for your life? So Isaac gets a wife... the title was not deceiving:)
Jewelry has been around a long time. It is a fine art, and good jewelry has great value, but nothing is more valuable than a great wife. Rebeca's actions (as prayed for by the servant), expose her as a kind, hard working, wise woman. The jewelry did not change her character, but added to her beauty because of her Godly character. What does your character look like? Are you willing to serve the wayward traveler?
Obedience is a beautiful thing. Here we see Abrahams most trusted and long time servant sent on a most important mission. Probably a part of the special operations force:)
he prays simply, with precision on what is going on and what he is expecting. Not demanding anything of God... but if it is his will... then show it this way. Genesis 24:10-21
Just the first part of this amazing story, Genesis 24:1-9
Would you swear to travel about 20 plus days for your master? This old servant has seen it all with Abraham. He gets it, Abraham is blessed by God, but he is also just a man.
We are just sojourners here on this planet. What are we doing to invest in eternity? I am often guilty of just thinking about today, and what I have. We need to be encouraging one another to keep our mind on heaven, and our eyes on Jesus.
Genesis 23
God has a plan... he reveals it in Genesis 22 and proves it with Jesus death as the Lamp of God that takes away our sins on that same mountain.
Has your love ever been put to the test? Has it really been tested? How about your faith in God? Abraham's faith is test as well as his love not only for his son Isaac, but his love for God
Genesis 21 continues. Listen to your wife. Also note how people are watching Abraham... and taking note that God is with him. Is God with you? They can tell
Wanted to talk about something else, but this is where God took it. He is faithful. Enjoy, tell me what you think
Genesis 21 is all about the faithfulness of God, and the ability of His image barer to fall short of trusting Him. Sarah once again rejects Hagar, yet God is there to keep His promise. Sarah is Sarah, you are you, and thanks be to God, that God is Faithful.
King Abimelech does a lot to make sure Sarah's reputation is not solid. He is the more righteous man in this chapter. He is not about defending just himself, but is truly a man, carting about all those who have been under his care, even if they lied to him. Can that be said of us?
Abraham lies again about his wife, and God visits the worldly king (Pharoh like) Abimelech, who shows that he does in fact fear God. Abraham's sin almost leads to the destruction of a people, and it is the King that set Abraham right. I think i would rather have Abimelech as a friend then Abraham... just saying. How about you?
Genesis 19, part 2 shows us how the Angels have to literal grab the hands of Lot and his family to get them out of their city. How sin grips us and captures us. Yet Abraham's prayers are more powerful, enlisting the angels to literally pull Lot and his family out of the way of God's wrath... who are you praying for?
Edmund Burke, 1729-1797, was credited with saying "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." I don't think he said that exactly, but he did preach on the parliament floor of Great Britain a sermon that could be summarized with that quote.
So are you allowing evil to win? Are you doing nothing? What can we do? We can learn from Abraham to pray as he did in Chapter 18. We can stand against evil, by proclaiming what is truth, and by living a righteous life. We could involved in a Biblical church community, preaching the gospel, and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. We can learn more about truth, and learn to discern what is evil. We must understand our times. Lot failed in all of these things, and is rescued, but rescued for Abrahams sake, not Lots. We must stand, or we will end up like Lot... chapter 20 is a very sad chapter.
Here Abraham pleads with God to save the city if only a few righteous are found... first 50, then 45, then all the way down to 10... oh what will happen now?
Here we have the first specific reference in the Bible to the teaching of children, indicating that such instruction is the primary responsibility of the father and should take on the form of commandments, first on the ways of the Lord (righteousness) followed by justice and judgment to fellow-men.
The first 15 verses are very interesting here. Abraham has these visitors and how this old man runs to greet them and take care of them shows us for sure who this is.
Interesting side note, i will talk about tomorrow if i remember... the word "hard" is the same Hebrew word used in Isaiah 9:6 when talking of the coming messiah, translated into English as "Wonderful".
God can fix that. God can take our wrongs, he can take what he is disappointed in, and still bless it and use it. He is mature enough to handle it all. Can we mature? Can we be the men of peace God has called us to be?
This is an amazing chapter as God shows His faithfulness even to a servant of Abram's wife Sarai. This servant is named here in the Bible and to this day, her descendants live
Side note, this is the first time the word angel is used
God gives Abram a hint of what he is going to do in and through Abram. God is still active today working in and through peoples lives. What is he doing in and through you?
Abram here at the end of Genesis 14, shows that not only is he depending on God Almighty, but that he is not looking for handouts or wealth, he is simply leading his people and relying on God.
Going back to Genesis 14, and looking at some of the details of Abrams counterattack to get back his nephew Lot.
Who do you need to win back? What ground have you given up?
Genesis 14 tells us the story of the mission of 4 Kings to destroy 5 Kings and in this little war, Lot, the nephew of Abram is taken as a prize. Abram says, not on my watch, and puts together the first ever Special Ops mission and retrieves his nephew and all of the winnings of the little war. And then he runs into this odd person, Melchizedek.
Would you give up the greater or better land to settle a family dispute? Abram and Lot are family, and there is strife, so you see it is not knew. Abram prefers his nephew, and God blesses Abram for it. There is peace in that.
Here we see Abram being a lot like us... sure I believe in God, but I think I know how to handle these things better than God
History was passed down very well, long before media and politics... ok, there was politics back then:)
Shem lived long enough that he could have know Isaac when Isaac was in his 30s.
God made mankind. He did not make different races and we are not evolving into such... we are mankind, and we have gone different ways creating nations, tribes, languages and tongues, but not new races.
Genesis 9 gives us a variety of things to think about and test. Could 3 families just 4000 years ago be enough to 1. Populate the planet? 2. Would there be enough variation of their genes to create the diverse gene pool we have today? And three, how would the the rainbow be a new thing? Well glad you asked:)
Noah and his family is on the ark for 373 days. That is about how long we have been in the Pandemic. Putting your trust in God is not always easy. With Him, though we can make it through.
What are you going through right now? Can you trust God to get you through it? Noah built an ark as God told him to... for 100 years. Then when God told him to load it, he did, and then he told him to get on it with his family... that the rain was coming. Noah obey. Noah's faith in action.

So much to get out of this story, but lets not miss the key element right here in chapter 6. Man is evil, man has covered the earth, so judgment is coming, but for the one who is righteous, God makes "atonement" a way to block the judgement. Pitch is 6:14 is also translated atonement, so a pitch to protect the wood from the water... that is an atonement to protect from the judgement. Chew on that.
Patrick was an English man, captured by Irish bandits that made him a slave for six or seven years until he escaped by walking 200 miles. He would return just over 12 years later, a priest, bringing the Gospel to those who had enslaved him.
Through the 1500 years of mans history to this point, (Noah building the Arch), we have a lot of evil things happening. The number of people could easily be well over a billion people, and demons have come down and helped populate the plant.... and we wonder why we have such crazy stories of old...
God is about the details. He has made us in His imagine, and He is working His plan to bring about the Messiah.

Psalm 39:4-5 helps us keep our eyes on eternity. C.S. Lewis said, "To be so heavenly minded that you are of some earthly good."
We, male and female, are made in the likeness (image) of God. All of us humans are.
God's word is so rich... get into it. Get into it like a favorite song... read a part of it over and over... Psalms 1 or 19... Or Colossians, or Mark.
Here we see how maybe, just maybe Cain had an identity problem, right off the bat. His worth was in his job, not that he was made in the image of God. Glad no one does that today.
Can we read and listen to the Word of God too much? I don't think so. C.S. Lewis once said of the comment, "He is so heavenly minded that he is of no earthly good", ... but Lewis... “If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were just those who thought most of the next… It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that they have become so ineffective in this. Aim at Heaven and you will get earth ‘thrown in’: aim at earth and you will get neither (p. 134).” Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.

Oh the pride of man. Here we see two examples, oh and they are the first two men born on this planet... and one kills the other... what the heck? On Sunday men, what do you bring to church? How do you come to worship? How is your attitude toward God?
So did you know? Christmas is the most loved holiday, followed by Mother's Day, and coming in at 21st place, is Father's Day... so Jesus is first then your mother...
Anyway, I wanted to encourage dads to stay the course. Stay involved.
And my new intro... do you like it? To promote real godliness in man, through grace, humility, hard work, common sense, logic, and love through practical advice from a common man, husband, father, and grandfather...
Reading from Psalm 37:1-9
Psalms 2 shows us that God has this, so what is the role of a man?
seven simple things to stay focused on... and its enough to keep ut really busy.
Life, equality, work, hearing God's Word, speaking God's Word, ministry of reconciliation, and discipleship.
Don't get distracted.
Men, work is not the curse... its a blessing in a perfect world. Now that we have broken it, work is harder, and we fight against our own sin nature, but work is still a blessing. Let us work as onto the Lord. Colossians 3:23:)

We are called to pray, and we are called to stand up against injustice.

Today we have lost our way... the church. Are we trying to be gods? Ruling over other men and women? That is not what we were designed to do.
A look at Genesis 1:26-28
Christians, we are not better than others. We are not to rule over others. When a people group or gender rules over others, pride and power creep in, and things go downhill.

Crazy days, crazy times, and we need to know how to respond.
How do we pray?
How do we love our neighbors?
What do we trust in?
Where is our faith?
The true color of a man shows up in times like these. Men, lead your families. Be strong, eyes on Jesus, and let's see how we can help our communities as well.
Proverbs 22:13 The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside! I shall be killed in the streets!" The lazy and the chicken will always have an excuse, and it will keep them from doing what is best and what is right.
We need to do what is right, no matter what the cost. That is true leadership, and that is what children of God are called to do.
Lots to still learn from this story. God is in control. All power and there are lots who want it, is meaningless, unless you are relying on God.
The story of Esther has taken a big turn. Can that happen for us in these days of COVID 19? Where is your hope?
Haman's Hatred leads to his own death
Esther's faith, and willingness to listen to his cousin's advice, lead to life. Her faith was in God, not herself.
What does pride look like? What do patience and humility look like? In this chapter, see if you can spot both.
Chapter 4 of Esther and the second part of verse 14 are the most quoted from this book. "And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"
Well, we are in some kind of times, are we not? What are you ready to do? Maybe it is time for us to fast and pray ourselves. Could you skip a meal and pray instead of eating during that time? Maybe fast for one day a week, and pray extra during that time.
Well, our second main character comes on the scene. What a guy.
Things look bad for the Jews. Does COVID-19 have you down? Can God make a difference?
Chapter 2 of Esther takes us through 4 years really quickly, and we meet Esther and her cousin Mordecai.
Susa today is the city of Shush, Iran.
King Ahasuerus is one name I never say right... oh well, it will be fun to make fun of me trying to say it right...
Look how these two, Esther and Mordecai stick together and look out for each other in very hard times.
Parents have fun explaining virgin, eunuch and how one goes from being a virgin to being a concubine... or not;)

Easter is a powerful time to focus on truth. We often don't know history, so we repeat the mistakes that were made before. Here i ramble a little to bring hope.
Also, moving forward, I will tell the story of Esther from the Old Testament. Gather the family and friends to listen... while practicing social distancing:)
My fellow Christ-followers, let's look at Romans 12 and talk about how we should act in times such as this.

I have loved teaching through this letter of the New Testament. Trust it has been good for you as well.
The final verses are read today, but we will wrap it up next time with a quick overview of the whole letter. Here I touch on some of the practical applications we can get from this glorious closing.
Prayer really matters.
Dependence of God
That we need to hear and respond properly to hard truths about ourselves, and that God's grace is enough to help us do just that.
We are a part of the body of Christ. He is the head, and He has told us how to worship.
Chapter 12 ends with "...let us offer to God acceptable worship"
Then 13 unpacks for us three key elements to our worship.
1. A genuine love of others 1-3
2. Our own holiness 4-6
3. Following only true teachings (Doctrine matters) 7-17
We need to realize our place with Jesus.
Even when we are treated wrong because of our faith, we need to be kind, do good, and love our enemy.
Your leaders who speak grace into your life. Do you speak grace into your disciple's lives? Your wife's life?
The Lord is my helper; I will not feat; what can man do to me?
well, he could kill you...
How big is your God (god)?
By the way, I say NOTHING about Valentines day today:)
Money, it's all I need to be happy... or not.
Money is not the problem. Your love of money is... and or your spending habits. Spend LESS then you make.
This is my theme verse, what started it all. So much to say here, so little time.
How we have neglected this key aspect of the Christian life.
Its a fight we much fight.
Do you pray for the persecuted church?
Do you think through what it might be like to be separated from your family, from those you trust and love, and to have no control over anything in your life? When you might eat again, or get to see daylight, or see a family member again?
You should, and you should then pray for our brothers and sisters who are experiencing that right now. don't think that Christians are persecuted? Check out this web site.

joshuaproject.net and pray for an unreached people group. Become familiar with one or two unreached people groups, do your research, and then huddle with your wife, and tell her about them, and pray together about that people group being reached.
These next five verses have 5 very key ingredients to the Christian life, and the first two I talk about today.
1. Brotherly love
2. Hospitality to strangers
3. Praying for and remembering those who are in prison and mistreated (for the faith)
4. Marriage to be held in honor among ALL and the marriage bed undefiled
5. Be content ("keep free from the love of money")
Warning to gain control of our fleshly desires. What a serious warning we find her in Hebrews...
God's grace is amazing, and even in the community that is being persecuted by those who use to worship with them, they are told not to grow bitter. God's grace is enough.
What are you doing to make sure your spouse and your children walk fully in the grace of God?
This is a great section that helps us know we are God's and gives us more insight into parenting... the lost art.
The team with the proven mid-game, mid-quarter ability to make adjustments to the game, wins...
Hebrews 12:4 reminds us that Jesus actually died for our sins... so what are you doing to resist that sin?
This letter is to encourage us that the journey in grace is amazing but not easy. And that sometimes we are in need of discipline but that it is a good sign... it means we belong to Him.
Nothing can ease the pain that these families are feeling. It simply takes away your breath, and the emotional pain is so huge and so real. ANYONE who has lost a love one this weekend, yesterday, today... they all matter. Today i take us to Psalm 90 to consider just how short our time is here on earth. Soon, we will be on the other side of this life... maybe way sooner then we were thinking like those in any sudden tragedy. Are you ready to meet the Lord? Is your family?
Death comes every day, but for someone as famous as Koby Bryant and as young as he was and with his very young daughter... the world is shaken. Today I leverage Isaiah 26 to help me press on because God is real. I think that in those final moments, what mattered most to Koby Bryant, was not his money, fame, trophies or career... it was his family, and possibly his faith in God. How are you?
Being the husband to our wife that honors God and helps our wife feel cherished, cared for, and admired. Can we suck it up and be merciful, kind, gentle and loving?
I love these verses. They encourage me to press on, run the race, look to do what is best, not just good.
Hebrews 11 is not by itself... it is part of a long sermon or letter. So today lets look at the end of Chapter 10 and the beginning of chapter 12 as we close chapter 11.
Here we hear about some loosing everything and going through some real torture. Today, there are still many of our brothers and sisters who are suffering for Jesus. I have met some in China, Ukraine and other places. Would you be willing to loose all your rights as an American for the faith?

What a testament to God and His grace and His love for us. Anyone saying God thinks less of women, or less of types of people, well they do not know God do they.
The Passover. The destroyer passes over their home and does not kill the firstborns because they had faith and obeyed. Nothing else... so even Egyptians who were in the home or who had started to follow the Israelites would have been saved from death. What is your influence in your home?
Moses lived a long life and his walk with God is captured in Exodus, but here in Hebrews, it is summarized in just one paragraph. The real story is about God.
So for us, let's be faithful in the little things, and let God take care of the big things.
Part 1 of looking at Moses as he is mentioned in Hebrews 11. Here we just touch on the part of him being a baby, and the faith really of his parents, and that of his beauty being that he seemed to have the hand of God on him. Exodus 2:2.
What is distracting us? Are we really putting our faith in God?
What do you really believe about the future? Do your actions communicate the same as your words as far as the future goes? Do you really believe Jesus is coming back, and that all those who do have a relationship with Him will have eternal life with Him, and all those who do not, will be separated forever from Him in Hell?
Can you say obedience? Wow, to obey God to the point of lifting a knife to kill your only son from your marriage. And the picture of what God was going to do with His own Son.
Good to read Genesis 22
When we live by faith, we are pleasing to God, we become those that God is pleased to call His own... He is NOT ASHAMED of us. How cool is that?
Sarah was credited to herself, to have been faithful. She is not saved by her husband's faith, but by her own.
Women power... God has never been against women.
Stars in the heavens match the amount of sand on the seashores? Is this possible?
Abraham was an incredible person in history.
Genesis 12-25 tells us the amazing story of God and this man Abram.
Jesus is the Creator, the Word of God, the Light of the world.
John 1:1-14
Hebrews 11:3
Don't shrink back... don't give up, never surrender your faith. We are not that type... we press on. The Christian life, married or not married, is not for the light of heart.
This part of the sermon is set up to encourage the listener to press on with the good work they have already been doing. Keeping their eyes on Jesus, encouraging one another, and not giving up. Good advice for us in our lives, our marriages and such.
Are we truly delighting in God? What if we lost our freedom? Lost all of our stuff? Here the Hebrew church is challenged not to give up their hope in Jesus. Do we give our wife hope? Do we promote our marriage? Our love for her? Our love for sharing life together, even in bad times? I am guilty of not doing that some of the time...
Stay the course. Do not forsake the faith.
Harsh warnings of denying Jesus by living in your sin.
Gathering as a community is not an option. We should do it often, probably a lot more than we do, but as a family, as a husband and wife, gathering together to worship, to encourage one another is criticual.

Love talking about God, His Word and exalting Jesus.
Jesus is the real deal, and men we need to stand up and be the real deal in our families and in our church.
The old way has tons of symbols, and points toward Jesus. Go worship Jesus. Sit at His feet.
God has put it into you to know Him, how cool is that. Jesus has created this software for us to know Him and His Father, and we upload it by listening and reading the Word of God.
Jesus comes from the real throne room of God, and He is over the perfect convent from God.
Jesus is our High Priest, and we should go to Him and pray, and in prayer, and by prayer, and commune with God
This is getting exciting... we have this great high priest, who invites us into His throne room.. so He is our only priest, we don't need an early priest...
Feeling a little tired... so here it goes, Still making much of Jesus, greater than all and it matters that he is not from the tribe of Levi. It also matters that we pray:) Let us pray
Melchizedek is greater than Abraham, and Jesus is greater than Melchizedek, so Jesus is greater than Abraham. And so much more.
Jesus is greater than Melchizedek
So this Melchizedek had no parents?
Does he live forever?
Hebrews 6:13 to the end. Also reading of Psalm 110:4
God gives us great hope so we can press on till the end... what hope are you giving your wife?
Looking at Hebrews 6 as a pause in the letter... chasing a rabbit if you will.
The first two minutes is about why I do what I do.
Jesus is faithful to complete what He has started.
Can you handle the meat? If not, at least start drinking the milk... and if you can eat the meat, please, start getting some men you influence to start drinking the milk.
Resting in your believing on the Lord Jesus... careful not to fall into unbelief. God is faithful to save.
How good are you at keeping your promise? Maybe there are promises out there that you did not even know you had made...
They saw Moses and still had unbelief, which leads to disobedience. We see Jesus, and if we fall into unbelief, well that will lead to sin and falling away. There is a great warning here to HEAR.
"Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called "today", that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin." Hebrews 3:12-13

Holiday Expectations and knowing what your wife wants. Let's be clear we often do not communicate well if at all, even when we think we are. Don't drop this ball.

Proverbs 13:12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
Word John could not say, reveres. Yikes. From 13:13 Whoever despises the world brings destruction on himself, but he who reveres the commandment will be rewarded.
Pursue wisdom and your wife. Yes husbands, pursue your wife all the days of your marriage.

Develop good and Godly habits.
Comparing the two woman, the worldly woman and the woman called Wisdom.
The fear of the Lord, a good thing.
Wisdom has been around before our foolishness. Go after the ancient, not the new.
Who are we before this wisdom? We are so small.
Seek the wisdom of God. Much greater than gold. Much better than that other woman.
