On this episode of the Dangerous Creatives Podcast, Kristin chats with her previous 2x Bride Fabi Powell about her unique story of finding exceptional love twice in her life, the true value of photographs, and what it is like to persevere after devastating heartbreak and loss. Fabi’s unique story is an inspiring one, and her perspective on life, love, and loss (and photography) is definitely one to listen to.
Fabi Powell lost her Army Ranger husband, Josh, to Synovial Sarcoma cancer at 29 years old. She started the Josh Powell Foundation in his honor to help encourage newly diagnosed patients and fulfill the wishes of those running out of time. At 33, she began a three-year journey through IVF, hoping to have her late husband’s baby, but despite her efforts, the dream was not realized. However, in the midst of her grief, Fabi found the second love of her life. They got married in May and are now expecting a baby boy in October. She shares her story to give others hope—reminding them that joy does coexist alongside unimaginable pain, and that it can, and will, exist for them too. She believes there is still beauty to be found in life after earth-shattering loss; that there is extraordinary love on the other side of debilitating fear; and that impossible dreams can become reality with enough faith and resilience. “Life is hard, but it’s too short to let the hard outweigh the beauty. And when we learn that, we must pass it on.

Creative Photographer Marijka van Kuik joins Kristin for a live coaching call on this episode of the Dangerous Creatives podcast. B. Jeffrey Madoff is the founder of Madoff Productions, based in New York City. Jeffrey is considered a storyteller and incisive interviewer. He is an adjunct professor at Parsons School for Design, teaching a course he developed called “Creativity: Making a Living with Your Ideas”. Every week Madoff has a conversation with a guest from a wide variety of fields, from artists and entrepreneurs to venture capitalists and business leaders. A book about his class, entitled “Creative Careers: Making a Living with Your Ideas”, was published by Hachette and was an Amazon bestseller.

We are talking about the power of our environment today. I think environment is important for EVERYONE but especially for our empathetic creative folks… what we keep around us, our physical environment, the people in our life, the LIGHTING… is so important. And I’ve struggled with this one myself because at many stages in my business, I didn’t have the funds to have my own office or studio, maybe I was working in my dining room - and even now when I DO have an office, I still find myself back in my dining room surrounded by my son doing art projects and right in the middle of everything. So while today’s challenge is about upgrading our workspace, I want us to think about it a little differently than we have before. So start a notes tab in your phone or a page in your journal, and we’ll be taking some notes during the process on the next five days.
On that blank page, I want you to answer these questions: where do I feel most inspired? (Is it outside? In your kitchen? by window light? In a coffee shop?) Or think about some of the details of the last time you felt super motivated and inspired (even if it was years ago) - where were you and what in your environment contributed to that feeling?
After you take some time to write that down and think about it, I want you to choose ONE thing to do to upgrade your inspired workspace. One thing.

Neglected and uninspired, she has little to draw on when summoned and thus our connection with her diminishes. Complacency replaces creativity and burn-out ensues but her spark within us can never fully extinguish. In this episode, Kristin sits down with Nashville artist Mary Mooney. Mary is an abstract artist whose main medium is painting. She has also started a new business with her partner known as Empathetic Environments. With Empathetic Environments, Mary and her team go into different work spaces and teach the human side of business, nervous system regulation, and trauma informed spaces. In this episode, she discusses the importance of empathy in her work and gives some details on an exciting new project she is working on where empathy is at its core. Aside from empathy, Kristin and Mary dig into misogyny and how a misogynistic society has shaped their lives/creative work.
Mary Mooney holds an interdisciplinary BFA from Denison University, where she focused on large-format abstract painting and site-specific installation work. Time Out Magazine has called her work "epic" and Architecture Digest referred to her paintings as "ephemeral" and "museum-worthy." Her work is collected and exhibited internationally, and is included in various public and private collections, notably Elizabeth Suzann Studios, Cedar & Moss, and the private dining room of Sean Brock’s flagship restaurant, Audrey. She is currently designing/building sculptures using light and sound to subliminally regulate the nervous system through harmonic resonance. Mary lives and works in Nashville with her partner Nathan, where they recently launched an empathy-based consulting firm called Empathetic Environments.
