Do you ever wonder why we fear starting our idea or making the change we want to make so much? Fear stops us in our tracks, convinces us we're not ready and kills our ideas before we even get started.
Whyyy?! That's what we're unpacking in this episode as I share with you the biggest fear that's at the root of our fear-based narratives. I'm also sharing with you how fear is showing up for me as I put something I've built and care deeply about – the Unleash Your Extraordinary course – into the world.
I hope this episode leaves you with a new perspective on fear – with ideas for how to harness it and move forward rather than give in to it and stay stuck.

Have you ever started an idea or business that didn't work out as you hoped?
I started my first business when I was 19. It was a video game swapping platform called GaBoom and at the time, I really believed it would work out...but it didn't.
Even though I ran that business for two and a half years and achieved a few milestones that I'm proud of, it still feels like a failure to me. And with that feeling of failure comes a sense of shame. Of looking back and being disappointed with myself.
Inspired by a message I received on LinkedIn this week, I wanted to share why I believe we fear failure (not the obvious reason) and how I believe we can reframe our failures to be the experiences that shape who we are so that we feel inspired to risk "failing" rather than regret never trying.

Imagine starting the week with a rough idea and finishing it with a refined idea that you feel confident in. That’s what I did last week and I’m excited to share the exact steps I took so you can to the same.
Last week, I set myself the mission to define, test and iterate on the idea for Stuck to Started, the step-by-step course to help you bring your idea to life in 4 weeks that I’m running in September. I started the week with the rough intentions for the course – what I want it to help you do – but I didn't know the specifics and I hadn't yet tested it to make sure it would land.
In this episode, I’m guiding you through the 3 steps I took to define, test and iterate on the idea and how you can do exactly the same for your idea.
The 3 steps you’ll learn how to put into action in this episode are:
Will you be giving these 3 steps a go in your coming week? I’d love to hear how you get on. You can reach me in a DM at @theideascoach or over email jess@theideascoach.com.

What are the assumptions you're making that are keeping you stuck?
Our assumptions are the assassins of our ambitions.
They convince us we’re not ready, that no one will sign up, that we’re a fool for believing this (our idea) is even possible.
Who are you to do that?
That was the first time I caught a limiting assumption in action. Right after the idea for the mission I’m now on sparked to life, there it was: "Who am I to do this?"
Had I listened to that voice of doubt, would I have started building the business I’ve run for the last 3 years? Would I have created my workshop – where it all started – that has since created a methodology for building the people we dream of being and helped hundreds of people? I don't think so.
What did I do instead?
After that assumption rang around my mind, I did something different for the first time. Instead of listening to it without question, I asked myself "How can I test this?"
Because our assumptions are only the assassins of our ambitions if we let them be. There is another way – to test them.
So that's exactly what we're doing in this episode today.
What's one assumption you're going to start testing after this episode? I would love to hear in a DM on Instagram: @theideascoach, or email: jess@theideascoach.com.

When you're searching for an idea you want to build, this question – and more importantly, your answer to this question – is a game-changer. It's a direction-setter and purpose-igniter. So...
What's the change you seek to make for the people you seek to serve?
In this episode, we're shaking things up and going outside for a walk together. We're uncovering the change you seek to make by starting with the pain you seek to solve. We riff on the following questions...
A question for you
What's one insight or action you're taking away from this episode? I would love to hear and continue the conversation over a DM on Instagram: @theideascoach, or email: jess@theideascoach.com.

Imagine a seesaw, where one side is self-doubt and the other is self-belief, where are you spending most of your time at the moment?
In this episode, we're riffing on the one thing that creates self-doubt or self-belief – the stories we tell ourselves – and how you can tip the scales of the seesaw from self-doubt to self-belief.

How aligned do you feel with your true ambitions? When you think of your true ambitions – the big one(s) – are you giving yourself the permission, time and space to do what you feel called to do?
Over the last week or so, it dawned on me that I was so in the "doing" that I wasn't making time for the dreaming. It felt like I was going through the motions or embarking on a journey that didn't have a clear destination. Something felt off. So I intentionally took a break to self-reflect and re-align myself with my true ambitions.
In this episode, I'm sharing more on what that looked like and asking you a few questions to spark your self-reflection.
What's top of mind for you at the moment? I'd love to hear and help over a DM on Instagram.

When was the last time you felt truly seen and heard? We know it when it happens, don't we? When we walk away from a conversation feeling heard and understood. It can feel rare in a world where our attention is used to scrolling onto the next thing.
Imagine being that person for someone you're in a conversation with. Imagine being the person who leaves them feeling seen and heard.
As I reflect on the last few years, since becoming a coach in 2017, it feels like my listening skills (as you would hope!) have reached a new level.
So in this episode, I'm sharing 3 ways we can become the type of person who listens to someone so deeply they feel seen and heard.
I would love to hear how you get on when you put these 3 ideas into practice. I'll be ready to listen (see what I did there) over on Instagram: @theideascoach.

Do you ever find yourself setting the intention to start something – a new idea or new habit – and then somehow, it slips your mind and you notice that days – even weeks – have passed without starting?
Building on last week's episode and mindset shift of consistency creates confidence, let's dig into 3 immediately actionable ways that you can start being consistent today.
Come and say hello on Instagram and let me know if you're in for our Consistency Challenge this week (all will become clear in the episode): @theideascoach.

Do you ever wait to start an idea or make a change until you feel more confident? And then find yourself sitting on that idea or change, instead of moving forward.
You're not alone. The thought of building confidence can send shivers down our spines. Does building confidence mean we have to take big leaps and do things that scare us? Not always...unless that's your jam.
In this episode, I'm excited to share with you a shift that will be a game-changer for your confidence. And walk you through how this shift helped me start this podcast, show up more online and start an online group coaching course.
I'm curious, where do you feel stuck with confidence? Send me a DM on Instagram and I'll reply with specific steps you can take to harness this shift and move forward.
P.S. If you enjoyed this episode, it would make my day if you shared it with a friend. Thank you.

Isn't it annoying when you want an idea – for a business or a project – and yet, you just can't seem to think of one? And the only ones that come feel forced and fall flat.
In this episode, I'm guiding you through how to spark an idea that inspires you and sharing a perspective shift that will help you always have meaningful ideas.
When you've listened, send me a DM on Instagram to let me know what you thought of the episode. I'd love to hear from you.

Last week, I shared a video on Instagram, riffing on why my diagnosis woke me up and what I did next – because what do we do after a wake up call? Once we've realised we want something – or all the things – to change, where do we begin? And how can we tune in to what we really want rather than give in to the pressure of external expectations?
That's what we're riffing on in today's podcast episode.
I hope you enjoy – will you send me a message to let me know if you do? I would love to hear from you.
Keep well and speak soon

On a scale of not at all - all the time, how much would you say you doubted yourself this past week? How many times did you question an idea you had or a thought that popped into your mind?
In this time of reassessment and reawakening, you might be sitting with some big questions; questions you want to find your true answer to.
So in this episode, I'm guiding you through 3 steps to start building your self-trust so that you can hear your whispers of wisdom and turn those inklings into action.
As always, I hope this episode is helpful. Send me a message to let me know if you enjoyed it – I would love to hear from you.

"What do I really want and how can I start making it happen?"
This odd time we're in is inviting us to ask ourselves questions we might never have asked before. So if "What do I really want?" is a question you're sitting with, we're going to start answering it together – as if we're in a private coaching conversation – in this episode.
As I always, I hope you enjoy and I would love to hear if you're listening. Let me know on Instagram. See you there!

You've shared with me that you're stuck in a rut...finding yourself wondering "What's the point?" while we're experiencing this collective pause on "normal" life, so I thought it would be helpful to share with you the two mega ruts I've been in before and more importantly, the 3 steps I took to get out of them.
These 3 steps helped me rediscover my sense of purpose when I'd lost all sense of structure to my days.
See you on Instagram – I'd love to say hello there.

You might be feeling lost, uncertain and overwhelmed. You might be asking yourself the big questions: What will life look like on the other side of this? What does this mean for me and my future? What do I want to do differently when we're back to "normal"?
If that's true for you, this episode is yours. As your coach, my quest in this episode is to remind you how powerful you are because when we feel lost and uncertain about the future, we can forget.
A gift for you

I’ve spent the last few days asking myself “How can I be helpful?” The first answer that came to me last week was to share one thing a day to help us feel more positive and productive. And to be honest, that idea was reactive, I wanted to do something – anything! – to help. Now a week in, it feels like that idea only skims the surface. And it’s very likely you’re sitting with bigger questions, like “What do I want life to look like on the other side of this?” That’s the question that resonated with you the most when I shared it a week ago: “What would you love life to look like in 3 months?” In this collective awakening, it’s likely you’re asking yourself questions you might never have asked before. It’s likely you’re wondering how you can find the gift in this shit. I know I am. It was only as I sat with those big questions that I realised I’ve walked a path like this before – not this exact one, that’s for sure – but I’ve had an awakening that shook and shaped my life. I’ve sat with a blank canvas ahead of me and I’ve built the life I wanted to live and the person I wanted to be, one step at a time. So that’s when it came to me. That’s what we can do together, if you’re up for it? We’ll discover what you would love life to look like in 3 months and then make it happen, one step and day at a time. Are you in?

In this odd time, we can struggle to feel motivated so I wanted to share 3 practical ideas that you can try to feel motivated during this time.
As I mention in this episode, I'm sharing one thing every day – for the next 12 weeks – to help you feel more positive and productive during this odd time, over Instagram and email.
And I'll be sharing a bonus episode on Wednesday to help us get through this potentially lonely time. Do you have a topic or question you'd like me to cover? Let me know in a DM on Instagram by 2pm on Tuesday and I'll cover it in the bonus episode.
I hope you're keeping well.

With what's going on in the world, you might find yourself working from home and wondering how you can be your most productive with a little less structure and a lot more freedom.
A number of clients and friends have found themselves working from home and so I thought it would be helpful to share 5 ideas for how you can be your most productive working from home, whether it's been your choice or not.
These 5 tips will help you start your day well, focus on what matters, stay connected to those around you and enjoy yourself throughout the day (which we can often forget to do).
I'll be on IGTV with more tips on this topic and I'd love to hear which one you're excited to try first: @jessratcliffe.

We all do it, don't we? We say yes to things we want to say no to – the requests on our time that we feel we should accept, even though doing so means we spread ourselves too thin.
In this episode, we're changing the way we think about saying no so that we can fearlessly focus on what we feel inspired to say yes to. And I'm sharing the story of a no I received that left me feeling inspired (yep!).

In his book, Do The Work, Steven Pressfield calls the invisible force that holds us back, Resistance. In this week’s episode, I’m sharing an idea that’s close to my heart for so many reasons – not only is it the foundation of my work as a coach, it’s the idea that changed my life.
It’s the idea that we can build the person and leader we dream of being. That we can take the visions we have for ourselves and our future and proactively turn them into reality.
So if you’re curious about how you can start applying this idea to your own life, this episode is for you. And as I mention at the start, this topic feels so big, it’s going to trickle into a second-parter next week.
I hope you finish this episode with new insights, ideas and clarity for the change you’re seeking to make – and the person and leader you truly are.

This week, the theme across a number of my coaching clients was a desire to “take up more space” – to be more bold – so in this episode we’re exploring ideas for how you can do exactly that. Whether it feels like you hold back when you have an opinion to share or sense that you’re playing smaller than you know you could, this episode is for you.
We talk about The Metronome Effect, which I shared in an IGTV this week, and how you can harness that tool for landing on your blend of boldness.
I hope you finish this episode excited to start owning your opinions, ideas and epic-ness even more – and feel ready to take your presence and impact to the next level.

This week, we're getting curious about trust – trusting ourselves, our ideas and our inner compass. Inspired by a podcast I've loved listening to this week with Seth Godin & Chase Jarvis and a coaching session with a new client who finds themselves struggling to start, we're exploring a few ideas for how you can start before you feel "ready".
We talk about the idea of The Compass vs. The Map, the story behind this idea and how our compass can help us shift from holding back to taking action on our ideas.
I hope you finish listening to this episode, feeling excited to test out your compass and turn the one idea we uncover together into reality.

I've been thinking a lot about joy and how, in the pursuit of becoming who we want to be, we can steal our own.
We beat ourselves up for not being further ahead. We focus on what we're lacking – on the gap – rather than what we've achieved. We let our negative inner voice rule the roost, sending us into a spiral of self-doubt, overthinking and playing small.
Doesn't it feel like personal development is hard enough?
So why do we make it harder by tearing ourselves down vs. cheering ourselves on?
In this episode, we explore how you can unleash your joy and bring a sense of lightness and fun to our personal development, as we grow together week by week, episode by episode. And I invite you into a challenge this week – listen to the end for all the details.

You know that feeling when a "negative person" walks in the room and we move from feeling free to feeling frozen – unsure how to be or what to say?
When there’s an individual who feels like a negative presence in our lives, it can cause us to shrink, hold back and stay quiet. To feel like we can only be a slither of our full selves – and we know that limits our confidence, creativity and growth because we're only being the "safe" part of who we are (in those contexts).
So in this episode, we dive into…

Having coached hundreds of future (and present) leaders in the last two years – from London to San Francisco and companies including Salesforce and Virgin – I've noticed a pattern. There are three common blockers that hold us back from taking our impact to the next level:
Today, we're creating confidence, which feels like the bed rock of all three.
We're unpacking what confidence is, debunking three myths that block us from feeling it and taking three steps to create confidence right now.

Do you ever feel blocked from taking action? And find yourself spinning up everything that could go wrong vs. right?
In those moments, it’s likely a limiting belief – an assumption you’re making about what’s possible for you – has kicked in; hijacking your thinking and stopping you in your tracks.
In this memo, we're running through a technique that will equip you with the steps to break through your limiting beliefs when they appear.

What are you holding on to that's no longer serving you and your growth? How are you fighting for your limitations vs stepping into your potential?
What stories are you telling yourself that no longer have to be true? What if they were never true in the first place.
Let's dig into why we hold on to stories, fears and beliefs that no longer serve us. And how – when we have the awareness of what we're holding on to – we can let those limitations go.

Last week, I went to a talk by Lewis Howes (School of Greatness) in London. It was such a great talk and I walked away with a smile and a number of powerful "a-ha" moments. One in particular has stayed with me. It was a question Lewis asked us in the context of how we want to grow:
What terrifies you?
When I heard this, my response surprised me because nothing jumped to mind!
On one hand that feels incredible – and I feel a sense of pride – because I’m doing things now that would’ve terrified me a few years ago. On the other, it feels like there's an opportunity for even more growth.
As you'll hear in this memo, that question ignited a desire to think bigger and bolder and I hope it sparks the same for you.

When we're on the cusp of starting something new or making a change we want to make, it's easy to get stuck. We overthink ourselves into a feeling of overwhelm and hold back from taking action.
In today's memo, we're exploring how we can get out of our heads and into action by testing our assumptions.

What's blocking you from creating the life you want?
What narratives or limiting beliefs are holding you back from becoming who you want to be?
In this memo, we'll identify what's been blocking you from making the changes you want to make.
I'll guide you through the second step of the Unleash Your Extraordinary framework – Deconstruct – to help you see those blockers as assumptions to be tested rather than thoughts to be believed.
When we're finished, you'll have a quick and powerful technique to return to whenever you're feeling blocked.
I'd love to hear if you're listening to this podcast over a quick hello in an email or Instagram DM.

When do we ever step back and let ourselves dream about who we want to be? How often do we intentionally define the person we want to create? And then set about making that person reality.
In this memo, I help you do exactly that. By guiding you through the first step of the Unleash Your Extraordinary framework – Dream – and a technique I use in my live coaching sessions, we'll uncover who you want to be, how you want to show up and the impact you want to create.
You’ll want something to take notes with, ideally a pen and paper but your phone could work too.

Imagine how it would feel to doubt yourself less, believe in yourself more and feel inspired to take action towards your goals.
Last week, I had the pleasure of coaching an incredible group of ladies live at The AllBright in London. And that was our mission – to walk away doubting ourselves less, believing in ourselves more and ready to take action that propels us forward.
In this live recording, you'll hear me coach the group through the 4 steps of my Unleash Your Extraordinary framework. It's a great introduction to — and experience of — the framework in action. Today, we're unpacking why we fear failure – why the thought of it is so powerful that it holds us back from even trying and flip it on it's head to explore what “failure” even means.
I share two of my biggest “failures” with you and how they’ve shaped who I am – and what I do – now. And take you through a concept called the "fear iceberg".
As always, I leave you with a few questions that I hope will spark insights, ideas and actions that excite you.
