Big Idea: Sin affects every part of us.
5 Things We Learn About Sin and Its Effects:
- 1) Sin makes us want to be God (Genesis 4:1-5)
- 2) Sin tries to control us (Genesis 4:6-7)
- 3) Sin poisons our relationships (Genesis 4:8-9)
- 4) Sin must be punished (Genesis 4:10-16)
- 5) Sin leads to more sin (Genesis 4:17-24)

Big Idea: Jesus is God's worthy Messiah, so he's worthy of your whole life Question #1) What is happening around the throne? Question #2) What makes Jesus worthy? 3 things to see: 1) See Jesus as worthy 2) See Jesus' power in weakness 3) See your hope
Scripture: Revelation 4:1-11 Rev. 4:1 After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.” 2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. 3 And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. 4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. 5 And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Revelation 2:12 12 “And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write, ‘These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword: Romans 13:4 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Revelation19:15 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron.

Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.”

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. What message was Jesus communicating when He described Himself as the “One who has the sharp two-edged sword”? Do you find this frightening or comforting? 2. What commendation did Jesus give to the church at Pergamos? Can you identify areas where you have remained faithful in difficulty or persecution? 3. Do you find it hard to address false teachers or false teaching? If so, why? And how could you grow in this area after hearing today’s message? 4. What promise does Jesus give to those who remain faithful to his name? What kind of thoughts should this produce in us? 5. Have you been baptized and do you take communion? If not, why not? Do you need to make that the priority of your spiritual journey?
