Here's an awesome Roger Stallion Singlecut 5 bass. This is a quick sound demo with some backing tracks, a full review coming soon. For the recording I had the Pope preamp on and have the treble and bass boosted just a tiny bit, with both pickups on and no other EQ. I also used my A-desigs REDDI and my Universal Audio 1176 into my Apogee Duet for the Direct recording. The only effect is a slight amount of limiting during mixdown to keep everything even, other than that its just the super fat sounding bass tone. Roger Stallion SC5 Specifications: Flame Redwood top, 3 piece maple neck with light flame, Wenge fretboard and Ramp, Maple tone block, Mahogany body, Ulyate Humcancelling pickups, Pope Flex Core Preamp, and DR Pure Blue Strings.
Here's a quick sound demo featuring this outstanding Wilkins Road Tested WRTJ4 Cayenne J Bass. Cayenne stands for Roasted or Torrified. This bass has a roasted Alder body, dark roasted maple fretboard and a roasted maple neck. Audere JZ preamp, Hipshot hardware. Bass was recorded direct through an A-designs Audio REDDI and a Universal Audio 2-1176, into Logic Audio via an Apogee Duet. The bass had both pickups on and the preamp set to its "flat" setting. I also used Tsunami cables and DR Strings.
Here's an Incredible, I know I say that quite a lot in this video but its true, Skjold Gen 5 Bass. This bass was on loan from a Bass Hang family member and we couldn't be more thankful for the loan of this awesome bass. This bass was recorded direct through my A Designs Audio KGB DI/Preamp. There are a couple of times that the signal distorts due to my fault of not resetting the input gain on the KGB and/or interface, I do apologize about that.
Here is a very special, bonus episode of 2 Dudes 1 Bass!! This is the AMP SHOW!!! We play through the killer new powerhouse of an amp from Darkglass, the Microtubes 500. This 1990 Pedulla MVP 5 bass is such an incredibly special instrument that I decided to post it as a bonus Episode of the 2 Dudes 1 Bass Series. This bass belongs to a very close friends father, RAY!!! It is on temporary loan and I am very thankful to have it in my possession for a little while. This is a completely stock 1990 Pedulla MVP 5 String Bass. These were some of the earliest boutique basses from that era. Pedulla is still going strong and Mike Pedulla is still building some of the industries best basses. This video was shot on a GoPro Camera at 4k and audio was recorded on a Zoom H4N.
So in this episode of 2 Dudes 1 Bass Howard Ulyate and I talk about and play my personal La Bella Olinto P bass. This bass is an incredible 63 P Bass replica handmade by Mas Hino. The Olinto P Bass is named after Olinto Mari, one of the founders of E&O Mari String Co. which eventually became La Bella. This is one of my personal favorite basses. From the La Bella Website: "Each La Bella Bass is individually handcrafted and made to order by master bass builder, Mas Hino. Based out of a NYC’s Lower East Side, Hino shapes each body by hand, working with only the finest cuts of wood. The “OLINTO” also sports hand wound pick-ups made in house. In this episode Doug Koeppen and I play a killer Italian made Manne Moab Special Master Grade 5 String Bass. The specs are below, when we shot the episode we went in cold and just played the bass, and speculated some things about the bass.
Manne Moab Special Specs: Master grade Italian walnut top over a black Korina body with a beautiful inlay that separates the bookend matched top! Neck is Manne's signature beech laminate with ash wings, with a thin phenolic fretboard. Pickups are dual coil soapbars custom built by Manne. Glockenklang preamp with active/passive switching.

Steve Araujo and Carey Nordstrand swap, and compare some Nordstrand Big Rig and Big Blade pickups on this amazing Michael Tobias Design USA MTD Saratoga 5 String Bass. This bass has a Nordstrand 3b preamp and DR Lo Rider Strings.
This is a quick demo video of the MTD Saratoga 5 loaded with Nordstrand Big Blade pickups. The preamp is the Nordstrand 3b Preamp. For the first half of the video I have the preamp/on-engaged with the treble cut about 10%. For the second half of the video, the preamp is bypassed/off. For both examples I have both pickups on. I used the A-Designs Audio KGB-II DI/Preamp straight into Logic audio and DR Strings Lo Riders on the bass.
Here is a quick demo featuring an outstanding MTD USA Saratoga 5 string bass. This is one of the best feeling and constructed basses I have ever played. Michael Tobias is making some of the most sought after basses in the business. This bass features a Maple neck with Birds Eye Maple fingerboard, and a Poplar body, it is loaded with Nordstrand Big Rig Pickups and Nordstrand 3b Preamp. The bass was recorded direct through my A-Designs Audio KGB 1-tf DI and is loaded with DR Strings Lo Riders.
Here is a demo of an amazing Colibri JBT 5 String Jazz Bass. This bass is handmade by Master Luthier Rodrigo Castellanos of Colibri Instruments in Mexico. The bass also sports Nordstrand Big Single Pickups and a Nordstrand 3b Preamp. It is strung up with DR Pure Blues Strings. Bass Specs: Alder Body in Inca Silver, Flame Maple Neck. Indian Rosewood Fingerboard, Hipshot Hardware, Nordstrand Big Single Pickups and 3b Preamp. All bass examples were all recored direct through an A-Designs Audio KGB-1tf DI and Apogee Duet straight in to Logic. The video was shot with a GoPro and Canon t3i DSLR.

Here's an in depth video review and sound demo of my Killer handmade Roger 5 String Jazz bass made by the incredible Luthier Ray Roger. The bass has an Ash Body with a Cinnamon Imbuia Top (very rare and expensive), 34" scale Maple neck and Fretboard, 19mm Bridge Spacing, 1-7/8" spacing at the Brass nut, Ulyate Single Coil Pickups, Benavente 3 Band 18 volt preamp and weighs in at 10.3 lbs. I recorded the bass direct through an A-Designs REDDI DI into my Apogee Duet and straight into Logic Audio. The video was recorded with my iPhone 7 at 4k. This bass also has a fairly new set of DR Pure Blues which I really love. This is an updated video, originally this bass had completely different electronics and the new pickups and preamp make this bass SING!!!

Because of the thin phenolic fret board, there are no dead spots.
I just wanted to have a little groovy fun with my killer Olinto P Bass!! I just set up a drum groove and improvised. This is one of my favorite basses I own. This bass is strung with La Bella Original 0760M "1954" strings and they are seriously amazing and have Old School TONE for DAYS!! The pickup is a Hand Wound P Bass pickup wound by Mass Hino himself!!! This bass was hand made by Mas Hino and finished by James Carbonetti. I wanted to showcase the A-Designs Audio KGB II Preamp/DI by playing a couple of basses through it. I used my La Bella Olinto P Bass and Colibri JBT J Bass both strung with DR Strings. I went straight into my Apogee Duet with input set at -10 and recording straight to Logic Audio. I did add some limiting and compression. Any slight overdrive is coming from the plug ins, the KGB II is such a killler warm amp and the Cinemag transformer is one of my favorites.
Here's a killer hand made Colibri JBT 4-J style bass. This bass features a 34" Scale Hard Rock Maple neck, Wenge Fretboard, Alder Body, Ulyate Single Coil Pickups, Audere Preamp and Hipshot Hardware. I recorded this direct through my A-Designs REDDI straight into my Apogee Duet and into Logic Audio. Music and guitar by Matt Waldrum and I'm playing the Colibri JBT 4 Bass. Here’s a very quick sound demo with some great close up pictures of this amazing Colibri Gedovius 5 String Fretless bass. Handmade by master luthier Rodrigo Castellanos of Colibri bass and guitars. This bass features a Singlecut Mahogany body and neck, 32″ Scale, highly figured Spalted Maple top, Ziricote bridge and fretless Fingerboard, Hipshot tuners, LR Baggs piece pickup and preamp, and has a Urethane finish over Polyester basecoat. Here's a quick little demo featuring the Form Factor Bi1000 amps Direct Out. I went into my Apogee Duet 2 then into Logic Audio. I used my Lakland 44-60 bass on the first half and Olinto P bass on the second half of this track.
Quick little demo of a great USA G&L L-2000. This bass has an ash body, maple neck and rosewood fretboard. I used this setting: Switches-both pickups on, parallel mode, active mode. Knobs-volume 100%, treble 50%, bass 90%. I used my Form Factor Bi1000 amp and 1B12 cab and recorded the video with my Apogee MiC 96k.

This was a very quick playing demo of me trying out the new G&L JB-5 5 string Jazz bass. This is G&L's first 5 string jazz style bass and it's great!! This bass has an alder body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. This bass also has passive Alnico V pickups which sound very warm and punchy. I used my Wilkins Road Tested WRTPJ5 bass with Nordstrand passive pickups on this is a great Chris Ehler arrangement of "Walking On The Moon by The Police." The bass was recorded direct with no EQ'ing.

Super excited to get my hands on this awesome instrument. The Olinto P Bass by La Bella is as close to a real 63' Fender P Bass as you can get. Master Luthier, Mas Hino, handbuilds these instruments to 63' P Bass specs, and he nails it. This bass features a relic Alder body (white over sunburst finish), Maple neck, Rosewood fingerboard, a Mas Hino Scatterwound P Bass Pickup, Hipshot reverse tuners, Fender aged bride, and La Bella flat wound strings. This is a great sounding and playing instrument. I recorded the playing examples through my A-Designs Ventura and REDDI, and went directly to Logic Audio through my Apogee Duet. The playing examples are clean bounces with no Plug Ins or effects.

Here's the complete audio portion of the review video featuring the Colibrí Guitars and Basses Mexico Gedovius Fretless Singlecut bass and two sets of Tapewound style strings. I record, play and compare the Rotosound Tru Bass Black Nylon strings and the La Bella White Nylon Tapewound strings. Like I mention in the video, the bass came stock with the heavier gauge Rotosounds, so when I change to the lighter La Bella's I had to raise the action a bit with a piece of Card Stock, it sounds great, but with a proper set up for the new strings or a heavier set of La Bella's, it wound sound even better. The playing demos were recorded direct though my A-Designs Ventura and Apogee Duet straight into Logic Audio with no Plug Ins, just a clean bounce.
Just received this beautiful Colibri Gedovius Singlecut Fretless bass to review. Did a quick recording going straight into my A-Designs Ventura Channel Strip and straight into Logic audio via my Apogee Duet. This bass features a Mahogany Chambered Single Cut body and neck, Palo Escrito Top and an Ebony Fretboard. It has a Pieze pickup under the bridge saddle. This is a great playing and sounding instrument.
This is the Drum and Bass track for an upcoming project. Jason Toney and Steve Araujo are using the A Designs Ventura Mic Pre/DI for an entire song. The drum track was recorded using one Audio Technica 4047, and the bass was recorded through the Ventura's DI. Guitars and vocals will be recorded soon.
