Today on the podcast I bring on Entertainment Reporter and Social Media Producer, Debra Oh! Deb is the former VPO of The Shade Room and currently works for Hip Hollywood and manages a travel blog called Travel Coterie. We talk ALL about the era of social media and how Deb was there from the start essentially building The Shade Room into the entertainment beast that it is today! Today on the podcast I bring back an old guest who’s from my hometown, out here in LA really hustling and growing immensely. Devan Garcia who is a musician and artist joined me in episode 22 from my living room and today, we recorded in my studio in hollywood and he talks about his first album and single called “Figure it Out” that just came out today, Monday February 18th. Devan has been one of my favorite guests on this podcast due to how real his music is in a world that so desperately needs it. We dive into this shift that he’s been having and creating and talk about why that is the title of his first album, we talk about the effects of Divorce, his creative process in making Shift with his producers Harrison and Ian, removing his ego when it comes to music and so much more! This episode was so great because you can really feel how much passion Devan has for his music and how music is the only dream only vision and only path he’s focused on. I have so much respect for creatives who are about the hustle and about the grind right? Because it’s one thing to be in LA claiming to be an artist but you don’t really see proof of that, just mostly facades on social but then it’s another when you have someone like Devan, who has put out multiple music videos and multiple tracks and has played at pretty notable venues. He didn’t even grab a drink with us after he was like “sorry have to get to the studio” so the grind don’t stop with this one. He was ready to break the facade! Are you?

Today on The Facade Project I am joined by singer/songwriter Sara Phillips from Montreal, Canada who moved out to New York and then LA to do music upon graduation. In this episode we talk all about listening to that voice inside your head that tells you to go for it, Sara’s songwriting and opportunities working with producers, the facades of her instagram, and some exciting live shows coming up! I so enjoyed talking to Sara because she is such a genuine soul who isn’t in the music industry for the fame but for the true love of it! I feel like when I come across a musician, I can get an idea very quickly of who they are trying to be or sound like or what kind of artist they remind me of but with Sara, not only is her sound different, but her entire entity is too! She is so unique as we all are but very kind, humble and genuine which is very refreshing to see in this generation.

My guest this week is Heather Reinhardt, An Atlanta, Georgia transplant who has been in LA for 10 years. Heather is a writer, author and content creator, who knew she wanted to come to LA early on. Heather started her career in hair and make-up and then transitioned into being this boss lady who writes, produces, and publishes books primarily centered around self-love. In this episode Heather talks about something I’ve never heard of before, it’s called the Saturn return, and if you pay attention to astrology at all it happens when you are nearing your 30s and its a pretty transformative experience and almost like a wake up call. I think for me, I tend to catch on to things fairly late so I was so glad that Heather enlightened me on what she’s learn all throughout her twenties and I hope you can find some great takeaways from this conversation as well. Introducing Devan Garcia! A Tampa, FL transplant who came out to LA to make it as an artist and musician. In this episode, we dive right in to the trials and tribulations of being a starving artist in Lala land. We talk purpose, failure and how he stays grounded by his faith and staying true to himself and his craft. I think a lot of times in LA it can be hard to remain true to yourself especially in the music and entertainment industry when there is so much pressure from managers and record labels trying to tell you who you ought to be. What’s up Facaders! It is the last Sunday in January and I don’t know about y’all but I feel like this month dragged on. But I am ready to hit that reset button and go into February with a fresh start, fresh intentions, and fresh attitude. I’m taking things step by step, quarter by quarter this time around and if something didn’t quite go the way you hoped, just know that there is always a new day on the horizon. My guest this week is a California Native, Alexa Vellanoweth and I am so stoked to say that she is the first guest who reached out to come onto the podcast after hearing The Eskimo Sisters join me in breaking the facades so that was a pretty cool feeling. Alexa is an actress, comedian, singer and dancer. She talks to me about being super involved growing up from sports to acting, finding a true passion for theatre versus film, and realizing her privilege and wanting more people to do the same. Alexa and I have a lot in common as far as how we were raised and some inner battles we tend to struggle with but her vulnerability in this podcast with me was one of the most appreciated because I hadn’t even met her in real life in doing this episode so it’s kind of cool to see someone who belives in what you’re doing and is willing to be so open and transparent with their journey. What’s up Facaders! This week is a female empowerment type of episode. I talk with my very good friend, Lexi Loccisano, who moved out to LA at the same time as I did to work for the show Shark Tank. We went to college together and applied for the same internship not expecting for both of us to get it but when we did we were filled with joy because we knew that when the going got tough, we would have a friend to lean on. A friend who you can lean on in LA especially is so important because not only do they remind you of home and that you’re not alone in a huge city, but they kind of keep you grounded and understand how you’re feeling with certain things for example when happy hour here is normal priced items in Florida… but anywayss Lexi is a singer/songwriter who hopes to inspire and create change with her songs. We talk about relationships, tinder, being pressured to do things sexually that almost no one would be comfortable with, mental health and taking back our power as women and people to protect our most vulnerable moments in life.
I think there’s a lot of outside pressures on situations sometimes to do the right thing or almost a question of why would you do something that you’re not comfortable with but the double edged sword with that is you don’t know what you would do in certain situations, whether you freeze up, do something out of love or even just do it and are regretful after the fact, we as females need to be there for each other to listen, help process, and help out where needed. This episode taught me that our feelings are valid and important, sometimes we don’t have and answer as to why we do something but it’s better to focus on what we learned and took away from the situation in moving forward with our lives and then I also learned that we have to be vulnerable with ourselves first. Knowing what we want and who we want to share our deepest desires with and waiting for that moment in doing so. Loving ourselves first is the top priority and if we can’t do that, we start to spiral into these feelings of negativity, self-loathing, comparing and eventually depression. Lexi was able to break down some of these feelings with me and I am so glad she was willing to because I think some of this is going to be relatable for so many of us women. I know it was for me. What’s Up Facaders! We are now half way through January 2018 and I don’t know about you but I have already taken a couple L’s in the new year. You know it just goes back to what I said in the previous week’s episode. Hardships and struggles will always occur no matter what exciting things a new year can mean for you and you just have to take it with a grain of salt and keep it pushin. This week’s guest knows all about keeping it pushing. Mostly pushing weights but he has definitely been through some ups and downs in his life but you wouldn’t know that by looking on his social media! Introducing Jordan Morello. A businessman, youtuber/model and fitness influencer with over 80 thousand organic instagram followers. Seriously Jordan does it all and aims to inspire the masses to get off their assess. I literally just made that up but Jordan really is such a positive, inspirational, hard-working young man who knows what he wants and doesn’t let anything get in his way. In this episode, Jordan opens up in this interview about having Dyslexia, turrets and ADHD and how that affected his schooling and helped him find a new love and appreciation for fitness, his new youtube series Anchors which features incredible individuals who share what grounds them, his company that he started called Complete Wellness, and his purpose to just be the reason why somebody smiles. I think I was so excited during this interview because Jordan is the type of person who communicates extremely well, is just a nice human being, despite the fact that he is good looking and has so many followers on instagram which can go to a lot of people’s heads and honestly is so focused on his goals that it just inspired me and made for a really great conversation. Hey Facaders! I Hope you are having a great start to 2018! If you aren’t having a great start I hope that you know that you can get through anything in your life if you realize that change is going to happen, hardships will always arise, and a little positivity can go a long way. Speaking of positivity my first guest of the New Year, CJ Carter, radiates positivity and good vibes as soon as he walks into a room. I got the opportunity to meet CJ at a networking event where he actually taught me a very important lesson. We were in a circle introducing ourselves and what we all did for a living and when it got to me I was just kind of like oh I’m an assistant on the show Shark Tank in a very brushing it off type way and he pulled me aside and told me to always speak confidently on what you do. Needless to say I had to find out more about this guy and nag him to finally come on my podcast. CJ Carter is one of the most sought after and in demand Celebrity Publicist. He is an influencer and one of my inspirations to keep up my grind. From the day I met him I knew I had to know more about CJ’s story. CJ represents a multitude of A-List celebrities including Bruno Mars, Migos, Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj just to name a few! He got his first foot in the door with an opportunity to work with Usher and now works with numerous musicians, athletes and product brands. Through everything that he's been through in life, the entertainment industry, and LA, he remains humble and uses social media to shed light on the truth of the field that he’s in while motivating others to accomplish their dreams and speak their truth as wll. Happy New Year Facaders!! My sister Kayla joins me for a very special podcast where we look back at our year and let you know the 5 things to remember in 2018. When a new year approaches we always get that clean slate feeling. We look forward to new opportunities for example, finally getting our health together, traveling, working on our financial growth, or just doing something that we have never done. Kayla and I delve into all of this in this exclusive episode. A lot of times we want to put whatever struggles or failures we went through the prior year behind us, BUT the reality is, the low points are one of the main points in our lives that cause growth. Darius Feaster is a Wisconsin transplant who moved to LA for a job opportunity but also to get out of his comfort zone and have a change of pace. He works in medical sales and hasn’t just found what he wants to do career wise yet but knows whatever he does, he wants to incorporate making an impact on youth in his community. Darius opens up to me about what it means to be a leader, why he gives back to his community and what he thinks is important to remember at the end of the day. He broke down his facades of all his party and travel pics on the gram to tell me who he is and what he hopes to accomplish in this world. I learned from this interview how important it is to stay grounded in a major city like LA and honestly how important paying it forward is in general. I don’t know about you but I always feel so much better when I am helping others where needed. What’s up Facaders, my next guest is Sara Lane. She is a freelance writer currently living in Orlando, Florida. She moved to LA right after graduation to work in a public relations and advertising firm. While living in LA, she had a lot of trouble getting adjusted, and simply found out that LA was not the place for her. She moved to Seattle for a bit and then eventually took a job offer back home in Florida. Through all of the ups and downs, Sara doesn’t really find too much trouble breaking the facades in her life which is great to see especially when there are many of us who don’t show what’s real, who put up that front without breaking the facades. I think that this interview taught me that your mindset is everything. When moving to a new place thats out of your comfort zone, where you are starting over, and trying to make your way, it’s important to note the things that you value and stay true to those things whether professionally or personally. This week's guest is Yash Naran! I met him through a mutual friend and found out that we went to the same university and I knew I had to have him on The Facade Project. He has such a warm spirit, is on his grind, and is doing what he has to do to attain his goals and dreams. He moved out to LA almost a year ago to pursue acting and dance. Like most of my guests, he has his struggles and is working hard to get to where he hopes to be. In this podcast he talks about the struggles of really finding his support system, a lot of people having an opinion on what they think he should be doing and how he shuts those voices down. He also talks about the importance of not comparing, you may be on page 3 while someone else is on page 23 but thats ok. What’s up facades? Today’s guest is Erika Fletcher! I met her through instagram, the powers of social media am I right? She is a soon to be graduate at Mizzou and upon graduation, will be moving to LA to start a full time position as a media associate for starcom.
