We wrap up Psalm 119 in this episode. It has been a long, but good journey through this chapter. Here the Psalmist tells us about the requests he is bringing to God. Are they requests we should also be bringing to God? This is followed by praise, but not just a little praise, thanking God seven times, clearly being intentional in letting Him know how grateful we are. Are we doing that?

We continue journeying through Psalm 103 in this episode. The Psalmist continues telling us that we should bless our Father. Was recently discussing with a friend that daily we are in a fight for our lives, for our faith, and against temptations and sin. It's not the most exciting if you look at it from that perspective. But something I've come to learn through walking through the last several episodes of Reflections is that instead of thinking of each day as a fight and fighting the weakness of the flesh, we can and should think of the greatness of our Father. The might acts, marvelous beauty and care, the love, and the opportunity to work in partnership with Him and spend eternity in His presence. As Psalm 100 tells us we should be going about our day making a joyful noise and praising Him, serving Him with gladness. Looking for the things to praise and thinking on our Father I've noticed makes it easy to get through the day and brings great rejoicing to my heart. Maybe this is something you can try.

We continue journeying through Psalm 99 in this episode and make it further than one verse. But here we are told that our Father is famous and known not just in some areas of the world or to certain people. Instead, He is known in Zion, the mountain and government of all nations. That is where He rules from and He makes His intentions clear to all. With this power though, He does not serve Himself or exploit the power, instead, He brings justice, fairness, and impartiality. What a way to use fame, spreading love and care, bringing justice.

View Details

Here we open Psalm 99. But we only get through verse one because it is so powerfully important to realize what is happening here. Our Father, the Creator of the universe, the One who reigns over everything has a perfect building plan for your life, for the world, and is making that happen. But the coolest part about that is that He invites us to be in partnership with Him. Helping Him build. Are we accepting that honor or are we trying to build our own office in His building?

This episode takes us on a journey through Psalm 98. Here we are told that we should be singing a new song to our Father. He has done marvelous things and through just His right hand and arm He has defeated death, saved us from our sins, and given us life and the opportunity to spend eternity with Him.

View Details

We get to start journeying through Psalm 97 in this episode. A theme that continues here is the power of our Father and that He is the one who rules over our earth and universe. In our lives are we recognizing that and joining with Him on the winning team, or are we trying to pursue our own path in life?

View Details

The Psalmist in the rest of Psalm 96 is telling us that we should tell those who do not know God that He reigns. He established the world and He will judge the people righteously. Knowing that God will not let evil continue forever and instead will bring judgment, the heavens will rejoice. The earth will be glad. The sea will roar in gladness. The fields will be joyful and the woods will rejoice. Truth is in power, are we also rejoicing over that and the power that our Father gives to us as protection?

View Details

We get to start Psalm 96 in this episode. We continue in the theme from the last episode of seeing, realizing, and then praising our Father for the great care and awesomeness that He bestows on us and our world. Then the Psalmist tells us that it is through the wonders and glory of our Father that we can share with others who He is. It's like sharing a superhero story.

This episode takes us through the entirety of Psalm 95. Here the Psalmist starts by telling us that we should praise our Father. Then all the things that He is in charge of and has built. This leads him to reflect that instead of doing his own thing, hardening his heart, and tuning God out, he should realize that God is the one who created everything. So, with that realization, he should be listening to what God has to say because He knows exactly what is best. This is something I'm working on, are you?

We continue in Psalm 94 in this episode. The Psalmist here steps into the truths about our Father and away from the vengeance, he was feeling in the beginning of the chapter. Here he tells us that though he had a multitude of thoughts, like being overwhelmed, stressed, angry, etc, at that moment God is a comfort to his soul. In those types of moments in your life, are you going to God to find the comfort your soul needs?

This episode takes us through the beginning of Psalm 94. Here the Psalmist seems to be in a place where he really would love to bring retaliation on those doing wrong. We walk through all of Psalm 93 in this episode. Here we are told about the glory of our Father and than He is compared to the ocean. Not just the calm beautiful ocean, but the flooding waters with the mighty waves crashing all around. Though the power and noise caused by this is in no comparison to our Father's ability. It is interesting to me to think about the power of our Father through the visuals that the Psalmist provides.

We continue journeying through Psalm 92 in this episode. Here we are told what happens to the enemies of our Father, death. Then the Psalmist goes on to paint the picture of those who are not the enemies of God. Here we see that they have successful long lives. Which path would you rather have for your life and are you taking steps to make that a reality?

View Details

Here we begin walking through Psalm 92. It appropriately opens by telling us that praising our Father is a good thing. In light of what we have been learning in the last couple of episodes about His care and protection for us, this holds particularly pertinent. But then the Psalmist moves into telling us about a habit he has for morning and evening. Is that a habit we should also implement in our lives?

This episode continues to take us through Psalm 91. Here we continue to learn of the abounding care that our Father provides and the power it gives us throughout our daily lives. We are also told that we are given an angel who looks out for us. So, in those moments where you feel like you are the only one, remember that you have the Creator of the universe by your side and constantly listening to you AND you have an angel protecting you.

We open Psalm 91 here in this episode. It has a beautiful beginning, telling us that those who follow God will abide in His shadow, be given refuge and a fortress. But the protection doesn't stop there the Psalmist goes on to tell us that we will be saved from pandemics, diseases, destruction, and missiles. There might be thousands falling around us, but it won't come near us. That's the protection I know I want in my life, but am I trusting in God and pursuing Him, staying in His shadow to be able to receive the protection? What about you?

This episode takes us into Psalm 74, which is also a Psalm of Asaph. We see a slightly different tone to this Psalm though, with the Psalmist asking how long God will be upset at him. Proceeding to say that the enemy is in the middle of the people of God and have raised their banners causing him to not be able to see the signs of God. Have there been moments in your life where you have also not seen God’s signs and wondered if He was angry with you and how long that would remain?

As we wrap up Psalm 73 in this episode, there are a couple of action steps that the Psalmist takes in his life. Are these steps that we can and should be taking to progress forward in our lives? Not sure about your life, but they are certainly challenging and very helpful in my life.

The last episode the Psalmist told us that he was envious of those around him and listed the reasons because they were richer, prospering, had power, and strength. Here in this episode we continue reading through the Psalm and learn that in those perceived things of greatness there is actually emptiness, unhappiness, and bleakness. The Psalmist tells us before he had the understanding of an animal to want those things and now he sees the picture more clearly. What if we take the Psalmist's perspective here and apply it to our daily lives?

Note: There will not be an episode on Thursday, November 11, 2021, in recognition of Veteran's Day. We appreciate the sacrifice of those who serve and their families.

The Psalmist in a very honest moment tells us here that he is envious of those in the world. He sees their riches, their strength, their power, the things that they do, and sees that they prosper. It is easy to get caught in a trap of comparing ourselves to others, but are those the things we are promised and true of us? Or are there bigger and better promises for our lives?

We discuss who wrote the Psalms and begin exploring the Psalms after those written by David. Though interestingly enough we probably will run into a few more written by him since the ones that he wrote were not all placed in order in the book of Psalms. Then we dive into a couple of truths about our Father and the fact that though our feet may be gone and we are slipping, God is good.

In this episode, we wrap up Psalm 72 and the Psalms of David. It has been a wonderful journey to walk through David's life in these Psalms and see how we can better walk with our Father through what he wrote. Here he tells us that our Father only does wonderful things. In that, we can hope, but also we should bless His name and the great care He provides for us and our world. Join me in the next episode as we continue through the Psalms, just not the Psalms of David.

If you find yourself in a situation where it seems like there is no one on your side and you have no one to help you or advocate on your behalf, the Psalmist here tells us that it is those exact situations our Father steps into and becomes the helper and advocate. He delivers those in need and helps those who have no one. We can lean into His care and ability.

We continue journeying through Psalm 72 in this episode. Here the Psalmist continues the discussion from last time that as long as the moon endures there will be an abundance of peace. No matter what happens in our world, our Father is still in control and bringing peace. To solidify this idea the Psalmist mentions that God has dominion from sea to sea, to the ends of the earth. There is no one and nothing that misses out on His peace and justice.

Here we get to open Psalm 72 and see what it has for us to learn. The Psalmist first asks God to guide his leadership style and the leadership of the person after him, ensuring the best for God's people. Then he mentions that God brings salvation to the needy and breaks in pieces the oppressor. To me this is so comforting to realize that clearly, God judges rightly, knowing who needs help, meeting that need, and ensuring that those in the wrong are brought to justice.

We wrap up Psalm 71 in this episode. The Psalmist once again mentions old age and asks that God not forsake him during that time, instead letting God's strength shine through his life to the people around him so that everyone can see the powerful hand of God. Then the Psalmist mentions that he has faced great and sore troubles, but he doesn't stay in those moments. Instead, he reflects how though there are moments of pain, God has brought him through with increased greatness and comfort on every side. So, though we may be facing pain in this moment, know that God is with us, bringing comfort on every side and increased greatness through the experience.

We continue walking through Psalm 71 in this episode. Here the Psalmist is asking God to very specifically take down his enemies, those seeking his harm and destruction. But then the tone changes because the Psalmist realizes that it is through God that we have been saved a countless number of times throughout our lives. So, we can and should hope continually in Him and His power to provide for us. Going through our life in strength and confidence instead of doubt or worry.

The Psalmist tells us here that we should be grateful and continually praising God all day long because He has supported and held us up since before we were born and will continue to be our support and strength till the end of time. Though we know this to be true, it doesn't mean we refrain from asking God for assistance. Instead, as we discussed in Psalm 70, we can let God know that our requests are urgent and we need assistance right now.

Here we get to start walking through Psalm 71. We only read two verses in this episode, but stop because there is much for us to learn in those two verses. First, the Psalmist reminds us who he trusts in, are we also trusting in the same power, strength, and love throughout our lives? Then he has a simple, yet profoundly impactful request. What is that request and should we maybe also be requesting similar items in our lives?

This episode takes us through the entirety of Psalm 70. Here we see that the Psalmist is in a tough place and needs assistance right away. So, he comes to God and asks that He rapidly provide the help that is needed. When we also find ourselves in a place that needs deliverance, are we coming to God and asking Him to speedily help us instead of trying to carry or figure it out on our own?

We started this episode with the Psalmist being pinned down by overwhelming amounts of water and being stuck. As the Psalm has progressed, we've learned about the harsh criticism and pain he is feeling. But as the Psalm wraps up, his focus comes to God, God sets prisoners free. We are no longer bound to the weight and overwhelming situation, rejection, and pain. Instead, we are set free, saved by our Father, and given a place to live with Him for all eternity. Because we know He is caring for us, providing for our needs, we can praise Him in the middle of our storms, locking eyes on Him and His promises instead of the storm around us.

We continue journeying through Psalm 69 in this episode where literally the Psalmist tells us that criticism has broken his heart. How relatable of a statement is this for you? I know it certainly is and has been true at points in my life. But in that moment of pain, what does the Psalmist request. Should we also be making that request?

Remember how before battle in Gladiator, the movie starring Russell Crowe, they would say, strength and honor? Well, here the Psalmist gives us our own saying to quote before we do something challenging or just as we start our day, strength and power. These verses tell us that though we have spearmen and bulls coming after us, God can stop them. He rides between the heavens and is the definition of strength. But as His children, we are then told that He gives us strength and power to walk through our lives. Are we leaning into Him and His power for us today?

Then we are told that He strengthens us, giving us the power we need to accomplish the things He has set out for us to do. How great is that?

We are also given salvation, brought to life after death in our sins. Are we leaning into this promise today and looking for the blessings in our lives?

The Psalmist tells us how he is feeling and that he can't stop crying. Then he goes through actions to take and statements to say to get to a calmer better place. Are they things we can implement as well when we find ourselves in a similar situation?

This episode continues in our journey through Psalm 41. Here we see the Psalmist come before our Father and ask for healing from his sins. Then we are told about a time where the Psalmist was tormented by his enemies. But through this experience and the fact that the enemies never won, he knew that God favored and was with him. Though we may go through tough seasons in life, God never lets that season win, instead, He protects and guide us.

We start Psalm 41 in this episode. Here the Psalmist tells us that when we consider and look after the poor, we are blessed. It is so easy to get caught up in our own worlds and needs and forget about other's very real needs. Can we work to improve looking out for those in need? We are also told that if we are in need, God delivers us, preserving and keeping us alive. What a promise to hold when it might feel like all we face is trouble.

Here the Psalmist first describes and requests that God destroy those who are against him. Making their path difficult because of what they have done. Then we see him describe how our Father is a helper in time of need and that we can have gladness and joy when we seek Him. It is interesting to note here that we don't have to deal with things or people alone, instead we can ask for God's assistance and then rejoice in His provision.

This episode the Psalmist tells us that he does not hide the righteousness, faithfulness, truth, kindness, love, or mercy of our Father. Instead, he shares it with large groups of people. But why does he do this? We and he are blessed by our Father's abundant love and care, why would we not share this with others so they can experience His love, care, and peace?

Our last episode took us to reflect on the great goodness and care of our Father. This episode takes us to realize that in return for that care He requires and desires no sacrifice or offering. He instead sent His son to pay for our sins and pay the debt we owed and couldn't come close to paying. We then see that instead of requiring or desiring sacrifices from us, we should be spending time with Him so that His law is written on our hearts and we delight to do His will. Is that the case for you?

In this episode we only got one verse further into Psalm 40, but we took time to reflect on several marvelous things. In this episode, we wrap up Psalm 39 and learn about asking our Father to save us from our sinful nature. We then see that when we have done wrong, we should expect consequences. But in those moments we can also ask our Father to hear our prayers and be close to us when we are in pain. We don't have to walk through pain alone, He is there for us to be strong when we are weak. Then the Psalmist asks that God give him strength before he goes out and about life. Are you asking God to strengthen you before you do something?

Here the Psalmist tells us that at our very finest we are nothing. But, in God, we have eternal life and hope. So, instead of stressing about how we are not measuring up to whatever standard we are trying to compare ourselves to, wait on the Lord, trust in Him, His plan, follow His path, and have hope! You matter in Him, He loves you just as you are.

In this episode, the Psalmist takes us through an experience he had where he missed an opportunity to share what God put on his heart, so then it burned in him and he found a way to share. Have you run into instances where you've felt like what you had to add was good and God was laying it on your heart, but it may not have been the popular opinion, so you didn't share? God gives us ideas and the power of boldness, not fear, so we should speak up when He gives us something to share.

As we look at the last message Paul leaves us with in Acts - we see that he mentions God will move on without us if we don't trust in Him. We have also seen through the life of Paul how powerful and amazing a life can be when God is in control. Are you allowing God to be in control of your life and use it for His glory in His timing?

The last episode showed us Paul's hospitality and eagerness to share the gospel no matter what situation he finds himself inhabiting. How is that received? Are there things that we can learn from that response and implement in our lives? This situation provides clarity on why some people disagree with us and allows us to assess our response in disagreeable positions.

The last episode discussed how in Paul's case the escalation and death threats he faced in Jerusalem were not known in Rome. So, he hosts a gathering at his house to discuss the matter. Like we have seen throughout the story of Paul there are moments that he and others probably would not have chosen for himself. I know I've certainly faced times like that. But do you see here and in the other parts of his story how he allows God to be able to use him to witness to all different types of people in the situations he is placed in? Are you allowing God to be able to shine through in the situations you find yourself in?

Remember how upset the Jews in Jerusalem were when Paul was originally arrested? Well, he decides to ask the Jews in Rome whether or not they know what all is going on with his case. They end up knowing nothing about it. This speaks to how in the moment, a situation may seem and feels like there is only escalation. But once the situation has been given time, most often, it resolves itself or amounts to something much smaller than it was originally. Are there things in your life where you feel like there is only escalation, but if you walk away it looks less menacing?

Paul was encouraged by the brethren that were in the area in the last episode and about to take courage as he literally completes the last leg of his journey to Rome. As we see here, relationships can mean so much to other people! Even if it sometimes feels one-sided, it is important to continue building the relationships that God places in our lives. Then we see that as soon as Paul arrives in Rome, he goes straight to work with a new mission. Yes, he is in chains and a captive, does that stop him from letting the Lord use him and his life, no! Don't let your circumstances stop you from allowing God to use you.

We see here more about the character of our Father and how in our weakness He is strong. What comfort we can have in that! Knowing that no matter how weak we are or what we face, He is there as our rock and strength. Then we will continue with Paul on his journey to Rome. Does God see he has a need and meet it? If God does that for Paul, He can and will do it for you as well.

In the last episode, we saw that once again the people thought Paul was a god and that our Father was able to heal him and save him from a seemingly terrible situation.  Then we saw that God was able to use Paul to heal many of those who were ill on the island. How did Paul trusting God and allowing Him to use Paul turn out? Here we will take a look at what the people placed their trust in and if it is sustainable or truly protective.  Paul and each of us have a sustainable and protective Father that wants to be with us. Do you place your trust in Him or other things?

After recapping all the things Paul has been through and seeing that he currently is bit by a snake, what happens next? Can his response be something that each of us can take note of and implement? His trust in God allows him to remain calm in the face of insurmountable problems and then God is able to use him to share the gospel and heal people.  In the face of the problems you have are you allowing God to do the same in your life?

How does this all work out for Paul and his fellow travelers? In our last episode, we saw that the ship was in the middle of a terrible storm. There were no stars to guide them and they didn't know where they were or where they were headed. Sound familiar with anything in your life? God is there. Just like we remember during the Christmas season that He sent His only Son to bring hope and light into the world, does Paul get a light in his situation? Can we truly take hope in the middle of darkness and is God there? The next two days are Christmas Eve and Christmas, so I won't be releasing any new podcasts on those days, but hope you have a delightful Christmas and remember the hope that was brought to our world by our Father sending Jesus to earth.  Also, wow, thanks for journeying with me through the story of Paul for 100 episodes now. :)

Paul has been in Caesarea for two years and repeated his testimony, defended himself, and talked to many Roman dignitaries. But now all of that has come to a screeching halt. Where does he go now and what was decided by the council gathered with king Agrippa to hear Paul's story?

Festus in our last episode abruptly stops Paul and says he must be mad. Paul calmly responds saying, no, I'm not mad, king Agrippa knows I'm right because it was his grandfather who entertained the Wisemen searching for Jesus. How does Paul continue this discussion? With his regular boldness and fervor? How is this rewarded and will justice come or is it a distant dream for Paul?

In our last episode, we heard about God's great mission for Paul's life and discussed how He has a mission for each of us as well. In this episode let's see how Paul starts to carry out that mission. Is God there helping guide him? What does it mean to obtain help from the Lord? Can you get that in your daily life as well?

After diving into Paul's testimony a little in the last episode, we see here that God cares deeply about Paul and about each of us. Even though Paul was working directly against God and killing Christians, God decided to save Paul and give him a new life mission. God cares that much and more for each of us, that even in our sin, He sees the best and has a mission He's calling us to.

When sharing his side of the story, Paul doesn't leave anything out and starts at the very beginning. Letting Agrippa know his upbringing and what has informed his opinions and actions. Then he goes straight into a powerful question: "Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead?" This starts his presentation regarding the power of our Father. Our Father loves us SO much that He sent His Son to carry our sins, die, but not let that be the end of the story, no, He brought His Son back from death, giving Him life and each of us eternal life! He is all-powerful and we can expect Him to continue to do great things! Have faith!

We see that finally Paul is given the opportunity to speak and share his story with the gathered high ranking officials. But the first sentence he speaks is not what you would expect of someone in bonds. Can we learn from what Paul says and apply it to our lives, situations, and the things that we face? We have a Father who loves us, no matter what, and will protect us.

Paul's case is finally having something happen after being dormant for two years. The visiting king is going to hear his testimony. When we look at Paul's testimony though, his life has had many pivot moments, drastic changes, and probably not what he told his teachers he wanted to do when he "grew up".  But as we look at the impact his life had, we see how important these pivots were. Don't get stuck in your set ideas for your future, rather let God guide you to where He wants. He knows what's best and will take you there.
