I am deeply honored to share the screen with Aluba Fenix, an executive coach and sports psychologist with over 20 years of experience. In this episode, Aluba emphasizes the constant need to reset and recalibrate our views and values, focusing on aligning the mindset and spirit and unlocking the full potential of an individual or a team in achieving high-performance outcomes.
There is still an awful lot of work to do to make the corporate world more human. Business leaders need to recognize their duty to care for their teams and implement approaches and programs acknowledging that we are working with humans (and not machines).
The biggest skill that we lack as a modern society is an openness to conduct respectful dialogues. We struggle to listen to dissenting voices other than our own. We're only looking for information confirming our beliefs and losing the humility that we could be wrong. Whether in Business or how we run governments, we urgently need to shift around this inadequacy that creates polarization and contempt among ourselves.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - post-COVID. How people are shamed for their medical decisions and different groups taking a stand for and against vaccination to demonize each other. Marginalizing people who are saying no on this issue is a question of how we've really embraced diversity.

Before she became a style icon, an influencer and built a successful business on the internet, Amber Renae was a civil engineer working on a construction site building roads and bridges. Her entrepreneurial journey is a giant roller coaster of success and failures that she rode and overcame again and again.
In this episode, Amber shares her biggest lessons of learning how to delegate and asking for help from others, removing the ego from all she's created and finally achieving freedom by building a business around a life she loves.
Fifteen years ago, Amber recalled taking the plunge by leaving her good, solid paying job following the dream of starting a fashion label. She began with a sewing machine, sold four shirts to boutiques in Queensland and Brisbane, and had 120 accounts around the world five years later. They did runway shows and influencer marketing, dressing Paris Hilton along with many other celebrities before anyone was doing anything like this.
Success was halted as Amber's overseasmanufacturer went out of business, took her out of business and left her bankrupt. "I didn't believe in support or getting help. I believed in doing everything myself. I ended up in hospital having a nervous breakdown, cancer, and stomach ulcers and worked myself to death at that point."

For business leaders Jade Green and Kyle Probert, nothing effectively quiets the "monkey mind" as well as the sun, the sea and the waves.
As surfers, it takes loads of patience to spot the perfect wave, to wait for it to come and pick them up. It can look quite effortless for some when they can ride at the right place every time. What is important is taking the time to slow down and eventually speed up.
Tune to the Barrels & Business show — Get In Your Happy Zone and Trigger Flow with Nature.
Key points covered in this episode:
[00:01:29] Welcome to the show! Kyle and Jade talk about their impromptu sabbatical for two days.

[00:07:27] The value of getting recharged by the ocean and quieting our busy, nagging minds
[00:09:35] The benefits of riding a bike or running in nature trumps running a treadmill or riding a stationary bike at home
[00:13:10] Jade explains that surfing teaches the hard lessons of being patient, waiting for the perfect wave, enjoying the process, holding your center, achieving being in your power zone, standing up, and catching the perfect waves, whether in the water or any aspect of life.
[00:15:39] The value of grounding yourself, clearing your energy and giving yourself permission to go out there and just have fun.
[00:21:42] Instead of wasting time and procrastinating for three hours, Kyle recommends an alternative
[00:24:31] Do you take a few minutes each day to ground yourself and clear your energy? Do your mind and heart a favor and devote a portion in your 24 hours to keep you centered, happy and focused.

According to high energy trainer, speaker, and mentor Jason Everett, many companies still have not gotten away with boring training in the boardroom. In this amazing conversation with Andrew Houston, owner and founder of Profit for Contractors, we go through what you need to do to stand out, attract people and win the war of top talent from the competitors. As a business owner and as a business leader, we teach you how to connect with your humans so that you cannot only retain them but also motivate them to stay with you and up the profitability levels by getting each of the individuals to love working with you.
We go deep on the leadership mindset and how you utilize that to frontload your recruitment process and your retention strategies and turn them into weapons for you. So jump in. Dig deep. This one has so many tangible tips on how to hire, train and lead your team to greatness!
Watch: Become The Best Workplace With No BS with Andrew Houston.
Key points covered in this episode:
[00:07:11] Every business owner needs to start to take extreme ownership. Often if there is failure or success in the output, we must adopt the mindset that often, we may have been a cause in a situation.
[00:13:55] Learn to manage your energy at work and home. Step into the "third space" and think about the outcome you want and what energy you need to radiate to your clients, employees and when you go home to your family.
[00:16:49] Practice breathing exercises to keep you centered. It can only take 5 minutes to tell your parasympathetic nervous system that you are safe and don't need to freak out, especially in the middle of stressful moments at work. Changing the chemicals and biology within your body quickly puts you in a position to respond with intention rather than responding from your current emotions.
[00:22:37] A reminder for you today: your employees and the people in your team are not apps that don't have feelings, emotions and things running in their background. If you can focus on your humans and help reduce their stress levels and everything else that's going on in their worlds, expect them to give back their best to you and your business.
[00:26:16] Studies show with the top places to work in the world that if someone has a best friend at work or feels like they are genuinely cared about by someone -- they last seven times longer. With lesser turnover and less cost of attrition, people who love to work for you and stay are, in fact, more profitable.
[00:29:36] Icebreaker cards are a simple yet often overlooked method that does wonders to initiate a funny or thoughtful conversation that creates an emotional bond between the team members.

After a four-year stint in the U.S. Army, a one-semester attempt at Law School, and switching careers from corporate finance to commercial real estate, John Lee Dumas has gone on to found and host an award-winning podcast, has become an author, and has interviewed thousands of entrepreneurs. It is that dynamic background that makes him the perfect guest to show you how to build a kick-ass team.
Learn more about his journey on the Barrels & Business show — How to Build a Kick-Ass Team with John Lee Dumas
Key points covered in this episode:
[00:01:19] Three-hour morning routines don’t start overnight. John’s morning routine lasted a mere 15 minutes when it began, but has since grown to three hours over the course of six years.
[00:06:07] It's not a blanket, X, Y, or Z. It's a sit down, individual, what would make this the best job for you? People should not only have a chance to voice what’s important to them, but they should be heard on an individual level since they are the only one capable of doing exactly what they do.
[00:08:29] Empowering your team. “If we can satisfy people’s growth, their contribution needs, and they feel like there's some significance there - then you're helping to fill up that cup and grow as a human. It's going to make them less likely to leave.”
[00:09:31] Discussing the current mass resignation issue. People are resigning for two reasons. They hated their job to begin with, and the pandemic has made people think about what is most important to them.
[00:13:49] Staying social despite working remotely.

Are you having a hard time handling your teams and keeping them on track? Kyle Probert and I can't emphasize enough the necessity for organizations and companies to focus on culture overhaul and how vital the care factor is that makes employees happier, productive and engaged.
Key points covered in this episode:
[00:03:55] The idea that the people should just turn up for work and grind is so outdated.
[00:05:49] Maintain that care factor so that your people adopt a culture of going out of their way to help each other. When they treat each other not just another person or a colleague but as friends, they are bound to help and make each other's life easier.
[00:11:36] Think about your third space. Work on lessening the stress and pressure because not every day is going to be rainbows and lollipops. Find ways to help your employees and your team cope and support them too so that they can be fully present in their families when they leave work.
[00:15:33] We can't expect our teams to be vulnerable with each other if we're not willing to be vulnerable ourselves. [00:15:38][5.0]
[00:20:52] As a leader, and maybe as a boss, we forget that our ego is our enemy.
[00:23:28] Creating ripples in the organizational chart.
[00:30:01] Applying scrum meetings is the best practice by providing an open platform for the team to communicate with each other and ensure that all the information is available for everyone. If everyone shares what they're working on or where they get stuck, all the hurdles can be moved out of the way and success is made to happen.
[00:33:18] Figure out who's the ball holders and who clears the field to go where the team needs to go. And that again brings in that camaraderie, so if you think about the concept of friendship or mateship, it makes work smooth and effective.
[00:37:21] Happiness is the most fantastic hack to productivity and profitability.
[00:40:46] Nerf guns and office fun. Enjoying some lightheartedness at work is a virtue that every company should try to embody. We talk about how nerf guns can foster play as productivity for adult learners and workers.
[00:45:52] Most leaders do not apply the changes they propose to themselves, yet they tell the team to do it. Develop accountability items every week that should be the number one part of doing their jobs. A leader needs to walk their talk.

You've probably seen all sorts of videos and memes about people being in an office and still thinking they're on Zoom — muting and yawning while somebody else is talking.
While it can take adjustments easing back in the workplace, business coaches and authorities Jade Green and Mark Creedon discuss mindset changes that need to be adopted to get the most out of your team, and strategies to thrive as a leader in the new normal.
Tune in to this new episode of the Barrels & Business show —Reset Your Workplace Culture with Mark Creedon.
Key points covered in this episode:
[00:10:56] Mark Creedon shares, "If you don't change your frame of mind before you walk in the door, it doesn't matter what "fake-it-till-you-make-it" smile you put on your face; you will be taking that negative energy as you walk through your business."
[00:14:26] Take ownership and assess that in every situation that fails or succeeds, often it is caused by you as the leader. Jade emphasizes that you cannot just throw a training manual of words at your people and hope for the best. Always assess what you could have done better with your team or what you could do differently?
[00:23:07]Your employees are your number one customers. If you want your people to give exceptional customer service, they will never give it if you don't provide them excellent employee service.
[00:25:01] There is a massive war for great talent right now. Jade reminds us that if you don't convince your valuable people that you're worth staying for, they can leave. It's time to rethink your outdated methods and think: What can I do differently?
[00:26:22] Values are a set of beliefs that you can't force upon other people, but a set of virtues is something you strive towards as a collective. Jade Green
[00:30:38] Create your ready tools to help you change your energy state. Jade recommends having a different Spotify list for every occasion. When preparing for a talk, she listens to meditation or soulful music and an essential blend of oils. She has ready her favorite pump-up tracks before team sales and marketing meetings. [00:39:46] Culture is what your people do when you're not watching.
Think about that. And whether they would be telling a story of frustration or feeling excited to go back to the office the next day inspired — this depends on the experience you strive to deliver to your people who are your best asset.

They were shopping for roller skates and noticed a minimal number of stores that carried roller derby equipment, roller skates and inline skates in general. (00:20:37) Too many times, entrepreneurs default to hiring people like them, which is the exact opposite of what they need.

How often do you take DOWNTIME?
Most people end up FEELING GUILTY just thinking about “not being productive” and taking some time to relax and decompress.
Well, GUESS WHAT! Taking time off can actually FILL YOUR CUP with energy and creativity!
This is something that applies to everyone in the business, from the leader to the newest employee. Taking a break is NECESSARY to be able to give your best! And this doesn’t only apply to work.
Creating a third space where you can take a breath and have some TIME FOR YOURSELF helps you bring the RIGHT INTENT wherever you go. Taking this time can help you leave work behind and be TRULY PRESENT when you get home.
Kyle and Jade provide you with great tools during this beer o’clock Tuesday! There are many different things you can do while you are switching from one role in your life to another. Be it meditation, listening to a podcast that has NOTHING TO DO with work, or reading a book.

Next step? Write it down, plan for it and MAKE SURE you actually DO IT! Kyle has some excellent TOOLS that will help you in this process. Remember, sometimes you need to SLOW DOWN to go faster!
If you’re a business leader, create the space for your employees to take downtime too. An amazing strategy? DESIGNATE A TIME towards the end of the day in which they can unload and ensure they get out of the work mindset.
The LAST THING anyone wants is for them to be worried about work when they are spending time with their families or enjoying their alone space.
Filling your cup by taking a break can look like many things! Taking a walk at the end of the day with your partner, surfing, going camping. BEING OUTDOORS is one of the best ways to connect with nature and break away from your busy days.
Jade also remarks on the importance of GIVING YOURSELF PERMISSION to enjoy your downtime. Get rid of that GUILT that has been programmed into you and allow yourself to ENJOY. You won’t regret it!

Do you know what YOUR ENERGY TYPE is?
If you don’t, you are MISSING OUT on one of the most important resources you have to achieve peak productivity and maximizing your life.
Knowing your energy types as proposed by the genius model developed by Roger James Hamilton is INSTRUMENTAL to making the most of every aspect of your life! In this episode, Charlotte Lane interviews Jade for her Take Control course, and Jade dishes all about the different energy types.
Are you a Dynamo? A Blaze? Or maybe your genius is in the Steel or the Tempo area? Jade explains the characteristics of each of these energy types and you are bound to feel identified with AT LEAST one of them.
But how can you use this in your favour?
Identifying your energy type allows you to UNDERSTAND why you feel the way you do when you perform certain activities. PLUS, you can create lists and examine the type of energy you bring to different tasks. This is a super important tool, as you then can group the tasks and ENSURE you are in the right mindset when you are about to tackle them.
This can make you SIGNIFICANTLY more productive and it will allow you to set everything up for YOUR SUCCESS.
One trick to get into flow even if it’s a task you don’t really enjoy doing?
Prepare the setting! Make sure you have a set atmosphere for each type of task once you’ve grouped them. This is a great way to TRAIN YOUR BRAIN and make things easier for yourself!
This doesn’t apply ONLY to your work tasks! It can also have an effect on how you WORK WITH OTHERS.
By understanding their energy types you will be able to relate more and get a better sense of WHY they do things the way they do. You will also stop EXPECTING them to do things your way.
And if this wasn’t enough, identifying your energy type can also help in your PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS! This episode can make a considerable impact on SO MANY different areas of your life!
As always, Jade provides THE VERY BEST examples and actionable insights. The goal? For you to learn more about yourself and how you can bring YOUR GENIUS out to play.
You better be ready for more!

How good are you at SIMPLIFYING AND PRIORITIZING?
This is something John Blake has had to do in many areas of his life and something he URGES his clients to do. John is a Sales Growth Strategist with over 30 years of experience in the market. He has developed his own system to help huge brands, such as Oakley, sell BIG TIME.
During this episode, he shares the seven holes that are DRAINING your lead generation strategy and how these are inflection points you can use to CONVERT those leads.
Want to get started right now? One of the most important things to do is FOLLOW UP! Did you know that 80% of sales are done AFTER the FIFTH follow-up? And there you are, too shy to contact a client more than twice!
Another big piece of advice John provides is to BRING INNOVATION. Many business owners find themselves copying what the competition is doing, instead of bringing their authenticity and CREATING THEIR OWN LANE.
Don’t be scared of applying things you might have learned in another industry to the one you are in right now. THAT’S HOW YOU INNOVATE!
You need to be DIFFERENT from the rest and make your audience understand what makes you special. Why are YOU different?
KNOWING YOUR AUDIENCE is key as well! And it’s not just about knowing what product they are looking for. It’s also about identifying THE PROBLEMS the product is going to bring to them.
What does this mean?
If you are selling TVs, then they are going to need someone to install the TV. Why are you not offering that service RIGHT NOW? Bundling and establishing strategic partners with other providers is KEY to engage with customers and be able to provide as many solutions for them as possible. This should be a PRIORITY.
And something else you need to prioritize is BRINGING IN THE RIGHT PEOPLE. John explains why you SHOULDN’T HIRE the people you like or people who are just like you.
It’s all about simplifying the process and hiring for ONE CORE CAPACITY.
There are A LOT MORE tips and strategies in this episode. From recruitment tools to how to improve your proposal system when you are selling to new and existing clients.
Plus, John is very candid about his life story and he shares with us how he faced the worst situation of his life while starting a new business and raising two infants on his own.
If you are ready to LEARN and bring your sales to ANOTHER LEVEL, then hit play! I know you want to and TRUST ME, you’re not going to regret it.

Does what you DO align with who you ARE?
Or are you just doing what you think you SHOULD be doing?
Cyprien Clerc from the FutureSeeds podcast interviews Jade in an episode FILLED with so many practical insights you might want to take notes to keep up.
Jade talks about the importance of taking the first step to find alignment, which is BEING HONEST WITH YOURSELF. You might have convinced yourself that you are thriving in life when, in reality, you are doing the things you think you should be doing, not what you truly want.
Plus, she provides tools to identify what your VALUES are and how to be consonant with them. This will mean cutting bridges with the people, jobs, and businesses that are not aligned with who you are, AND THAT’S OK.
Remember, every little thing you say yes to means saying no to something else. That’s why it’s SO IMPORTANT that you take a hard look at your purpose and what you want to achieve and make your choices accordingly.
Finding YOUR PATH sounds as ambiguous as it gets. Jade gives practical tools, such as taking the first step and reverse-engineering this process by identifying what your goals are AND THEN working from there to identify the steps you need to take to get there.
Starting with WHAT YOU LOVE and asking yourself how you want to serve others is KEY to be successful in this process.
Staying in alignment is not easy but knowing your values and keeping them in mind is what will allow you to determine what is acceptable and what isn’t. You can’t impose your values on someone else but you can establish the VIRTUES you want to see in your business and choose employees and clients that align with this.
No one does this perfectly all the time and Jade is very candid about it. She talks about the times in which she stepped away from her values and found herself reaching burnout because she wasn’t being TRUE TO HERSELF.
And this is another KEY LEARNING from this episode! YOU ARE GOING TO FAIL but how you face this failure and your resilience are what’s going to determine your success as an entrepreneur. Failure is a learning opportunity that will allow you to grow and do things differently AND BETTER the next time.
You need to be DISCIPLINED and apply this mindset to everything. By being disciplined, you will have the freedom to do the things you want to do and that will bring fulfillment to your life.
Jade gives many other important tips and tools for entrepreneurial success, such as the steps you need to take to MONETIZE your idea and key insights into building your personal brand.

Have you CONNECTED with your soul?
And what on Earth does that mean? Also, how can this impact your business? Danny Salfield interviews Glen Casey and me in this episode and let me tell you, Glen is one of THE MOST soulful people out there!
This conversation was SO GOOD we ended up doing a post-show after the episode “ended”. We just couldn’t stop talking!
After a transformative experience in his 20s in which he connected with his soul, Glen had an entirely new perspective on life. This allowed him to become a successful brand manager, and he was the one responsible for bringing Patagonia to surfing in Australia!
However, his life hasn’t been without setbacks and it was RECONNECTING with himself and his soul that allowed him to keep going!
Glen is as vulnerable as it gets during this episode in which he provides excellent tips and strategies for business owners like you.
Glen talks about his “two Ps” involved in growing a brand. These are PEOPLE and POSITION. It’s all about connecting with others and offering things they truly want or need. He also talks about the importance of NOT OVERSELLING for the sake of making more money!
The key to long-lasting relationships with clients is to give them what they need and then THEY’LL KEEP COMING BACK FOR MORE.
Glen also talks about strategies such as changes in pricing and how to enter a new market. He has firsthand experience and has learned a thing or two about marketing to a NEW AUDIENCE, which can be a very scary endeavor.
We also go deep into the importance of leveraging the VIRTUES of a company to keep it true to the culture and goals you have set for it. Also, we talk about how YOUR LEADERSHIP has a ripple effect on the entire company and all employees AND clients.
Remember, WHAT YOU DO IS WHO YOU ARE and just talking about it is not going to get the job done.
As Glen puts it, taking ACTION is what is truly going to make your business thrive. Plus, you can also apply this to your personal life.
There is SO MUCH to unpack here, from amazing business insights to the importance of connecting with your soul and truly bringing your ENTIRE EXISTENCE to a new level of balance.

Are you RESPONSE-ABLE?
Being able to respond requires you to be in the right mindset, managing your stressors instead of letting them accumulate, build up, and lead you to an explosion that can have terrible consequences for you and your team.
When you or anyone in your team explodes because of a trigger, this means the person is REACTING INSTEAD OF RESPONDING.
But what’s the problem with reacting?
Kyle & Jade are together once again to talk about the importance of being response-able, the stressors that can make the workplace feel like a minefield, and the tools you can implement RIGHT NOW to make a drastic change in this.
One of the things you need to keep in mind is that YOUR ACTIONS as a leader trickle down the ladder of your employees. Therefore, you should always ask yourself what is the RESPONSE YOU WANT from your team?
If you are snapping and being erratic all the time, that’s exactly how your team is going to behave. Think of the BEST LEADER you’ve worked with, the one who made you want to be better and give more at work.
That’s EXACTLY what you should be thinking about when you lead. One commonality across leaders worldwide is that they TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES. People often think that leaders should sleep 2 hours a day, barely eat, and exist solely for their jobs to be successful.
This is an absolute LIE! The best leaders make sure they take time for themselves, usually using it to stay active be it by practicing a sport or any other activity that engages their mind and allows them to connect WITH THEMSELVES.
Do you do the same?
This is the only way in which you can truly take care of your employees. To promote responses instead of reactions you need to UNDERSTAND where your employees are coming from, their buttons, and their triggers. Otherwise, your workplace will be in constant chaos.
The key here is to CONTROL WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL. This allows you to manage the things you can’t control more successfully.
Jade and Kyle provide great real-life examples and tools to help you implement these strategies. It’s all TAKING THE TIME to invest in how you manage your team and being willing to let go when it’s necessary

YOU FINALLY FOUND THE ONE! After a dedicated recruitment process, you finally found the right person for the job and it’s time to start the onboarding process.
Now you just need to make sure you don’t mess it up! Did you know that 70% of people start looking for a new job within 90 days of working at a new place?
The last thing you want is for all your recruitment effort to go to waste! There are many strategies you can use to ensure this doesn’t happen and Kyle Probert and Jade are here to help you NAIL YOUR ONBOARDING process.
Kyle is the head of APT Training and he’s working with Jade to transform his business from the inside out with amazing results! Fresh from a recent onboarding process, they have excellent tips that can help you succeed at it!
One of the main keys is making sure the period between making the offer and Day 1 goes through without a hitch! How can you do this? You want to keep your new employees ENGAGED during this process. Remind them of how excited you are to have them be part of the team and make them feel valued.
After signing the contract (and make sure it happens fast after they accept the offer, you don’t want them to get poached!), you can do little things such as sending them a video of the office and the layout there, or inviting them to a social activity with the team.
The goal is for the new recruit to feel like part of the team BEFORE THEY EVEN BEGIN. Other small things you can do are giving them their uniform early on or setting up a buddy system, choosing someone from the team to engage with them and make them feel welcome.
You should also make sure you have your training processes recorded and that you can provide them AHEAD OF TIME. That way, they won’t feel lost during the first day and you can ensure they understand your business’ values and virtues from Day 1.
Oh and Day 1? EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! You want to make sure you make time for the new employee during their first day. Make it part of your day’s schedule! The goal is to make them feel welcome, ensure they have everything they need to excel at their job, and answer any questions they might have.
But what happens when things don’t work out as expected? What if it turns out they’re not a good match for the position?
As Jade says, “hire slow, fire fast”. It’s not about giving up right away if they need some adjustment time, not at all! It’s about understanding when to let someone go and learning from that experience and what you can do better next time!
If they are not meeting the business’ needs and they are not growing, it’s a lose-lose situation for both of you! It’s better to accept when it’s time to move on.
And if you have the right person, you want to make sure they stay on. So you better nail that onboarding!

Have you found your TRUE PURPOSE?
It’s never too late to be true to who you are and ensure your business reflects that. In this episode, Martiene van Steyn interviews Jade. She opens up about what brought her to leave her career as a corporate recruiter after more than a decade and the process of finding her purpose.
Martiene lived through something similar. She is a big believer in businesses having their own authentic essence — just as Jade does — and she decided to leave the corporate world to create her own branding, marketing, and production company.
See any similarities between these two?
You will learn A LOT about finding your purpose and how you can bring this to your business and your team. After Jade realised that she wanted to bethe world’s largest enabler of humans that are happy at work, she had to ask herself “well, how do I achieve that?”
Once you have your true purpose you can engineer the steps you have to take to get there. This applies to every part of your life!
Where do you want your business to go? What do you want people to FEEL when they think about you and your business? How do you want the people within your business to feel?
That is how you build a successful brand and how you are able to connect with others to make your business thrive!
Jade and Martiene also talk about the importance of creating a HAPPY WORKPLACE. It might sound cheesy, but it’s been proven. A happy workplace is key.
Happy employees are more productive and more profitable. And guess what? It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to provide a healthy workplace. Only YOU can make it happen.
Jade also remarks on the importance of self-care and the fact that YOU DON’T HAVE TO SACRIFICE YOUR LIFE to be successful.
And you shouldn’t demand this from your employees either.
A tear or two might be shed in this exciting and extremely honest episode. You’ll see Jade more vulnerable than ever as she talks about her passion and how she found her purpose. And the feeling is contagious!
Do you want to feel it too? Tune in!

Are you ready for a MARKETING MASTERCLASS?!
That is exactly what John Logar provides in this amazing episode with at least a dozen — I’m not exaggerating — insights, tips, and actionable pieces of advice for business owners looking to implement explosive online marketing strategies.
John is the CEO and founder of Consulting Unleashed and he is an expert who coaches digital marketing agencies and consultants. Through his experience as a serial entrepreneur, he has a wealth of knowledge about online marketing and he shares amazing information with all of us!
One of the things John prioritizes is BRANDING, a word you might have heard a thousand times before. However, John expands on how to successfully do it, which includes strategies to ensure you get web domains and social media handles under YOUR NAME.
John wants to make sure your business is among the top results provided by a Google search and that you’re as visible as possible. After all, the goal is for you to TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR BRAND and have a digital footprint that leads your business to success.
You’ve succeeded at lead generation through your online presence and advertising but how many of those are you converting? John is a big advocate of advertising and he sets this as an instrumental investment. However, even the best advertising campaigns can fail.
Wait, WHAT?
You can have the most beautiful logo and an amazing advertising campaign but if your sales team is not optimized, you will be throwing your money down the drain. What good is a lead if you don’t follow up on it?
John provides perfect examples of businesses that have gotten this wrong so that YOU WON’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES. Plus, John has FIVE THINGS that are key in lead generation and management and you can learn all about them in this episode.
He also talks about action fakers and how they can get a thousand ideas and not take a single action. Sometimes, people get stuck on trying to build the perfect product, the perfect ad, and instead end up never launching anything because they’re waiting for it to be perfect.
This brings us to yet another nugget of information, which is engaging with the client. Don’t wait for things to be perfect. Go ahead and launch them! And then, get feedback. Feedback is what’s going to tell you if your idea is a good one or if it’s time to go back to the drawing board.
Plus, you can also get this feedback from current clients! Engaging with them and understanding what made them choose you is a way to get invaluable information that can help you steer your business in the right direction.

People often mistake communication for talking.
When, actually, one of the best ways to improve your communication is by listening and listening to connect not just to respond.
In this episode, Kyle Probert from APT Training and Charlotte Lane dish on communication tips and tools that will bring your business to a whole new level. Charlotte is the communication queen who set up her copywriting business and is now transitioning into helping others find their voice and communicate better. She also provides advice to businesses — including Kyle’s and mine! — on how to better communicate with our teams and with clients.
Charlotte has many tips and tricks you can start using RIGHT NOW to improve communication within your team.
For example, did you know that being silent is also a form of communication, and one that can instantly flip the switch and allow you to control the conversation?
Silence doesn’t make you weak, in fact, it gives YOU THE POWER!
Have you ever felt like your words are not coming across as you meant them? Communication styles vary from person to person and even the mood they are in can influence things! Charlotte explains the main four communication styles according to the DISC classification, which is an awesome tool you can use to streamline your interactions with others.
Remember, you are the one that needs to ensure what you are saying comes across clearly and is understood. This requires you to understand how the other person communicates and as Kyle puts it, you need to be able to empathise with them as well.
A big part of communication is conflict resolution. Conflict and arguments are bound to take place at some point. This is not a bad thing! As Kyle points out, great innovation can come from conflict.
Sometimes, the members of your team are able to resolve the conflict on their own, but do you know how to mediate if the time comes? Charlotte explains more about the different scenarios that can take place according to the conflict styles of those involved and how to act to achieve a positive resolution.
At the end of the day, you need to be as informed as possible and you have to be able to understand your team. Plus, you need to make sure they can communicate with you and with each other. Unfortunately we aren’t mind-readers! But there are different personality tests you can use right now that can have a huge impact on how you and your team communicate.
Are you ready to become a master communicator? What are you waiting for? LISTEN NOW!
Key points
(00:00): Welcome to Barrels and Business!
(04:28): Communication and connection are not just about talking more but also about listening more.
(07:34): Listening is not the same as being passive. It’s the best way to learn more about a situation and get additional information that allows you to understand what the next step is.
(13:08): The person sending the message needs to make sure it is understood as it was intended. Sometimes, reframing the message is the best way to make sure the information truly landed.
(19:04): The type of medium used to communicate ideas matters. For example, someone who understands written information better would benefit from getting an email, while people who get it just by listening benefit from verbal communication.
(31:10): It is important to adapt to be able to get your message across. It is not about using special words or phrases, it is about keeping in mind the context and the receiver of the message.
(34:16): There are different communication stages when interacting with someone new. After the initial exploratory phase, there comes integration in which a relationship starts to build.
(40:07): The specific changes that can take place when a team or relationship is deteriorating or ending its time working together.
(43:49): Disagreeing with someone is not a negative thing, there can be constructive conflict that leads to a better way to do things. However, focusing on the end result is instrumental to achieve a positive resolution.
(52:50): Biases can play an important role in communication and encouraging those who know more but are often quieter than others can be instrumental to achieve significant developments and innovation.
(01:03:01): Negative communication can have a very detrimental effect on the entire team and bad consequences for the business overall. If this is coming from one team member, cutting the limb to save the body might be necessary.
(01:12:09): Introducing communication strategies to the team by setting it in a way that focuses on the benefits and positive results that will come from implementing these tools.
(01:16:15): It is important for the team to understand why different types of personalities are needed to run a successful business.
(01:20:31): As part of a team, managers often need to put their agenda on a box and put that box on the shelf. Shelving your agenda allows you to truly listen and be there for your team members instead of worrying about the bottom line.

Most trades based businesses think that social media won’t really help them..they think no one wants to look at at a tradie popping in a new light switch, a plumber unblocking a toilet or old mate slinging bricks over and over again
Well Greg Allan, founder of The Electricians Success Academy and owner of Response Electricians, a business that exploded when they decided to challenge this thinking and put themselves in the shoes of the customer…the result, Singing Electricians with videos that went viral!

You need to leverage the tools provided by social media so that you can truly target your ideal clients, your “avatar”. And this is something that goes to ALL BUSINESSES. Regardless of how traditional your business might be, social media is instrumental now!
As Greg puts it, “word-of-mouth is dead” because people are not talking to each other and the tall poppy syndrome has made people be less open to sharing their secret weapons. But almost everyone is on some form of social media!
In this episode you will love how Greg opens up about his vulnerabilities, his former drinking problem and the work he has done to become the best version of himself, both for his businesses and his family.
He is very open about seeking therapy and realizing he had been suppressing his feelings for so long, he didn’t even identify them anymore.
This has led Greg to advocate strongly for therapy and include activities that promote good mental health, like journalling, into his everyday routine.
That’s another key piece of advice from Greg! MAKE A SCHEDULE, and make sure you include some much-needed time for yourself.
Greg really doesn’t hold back on the value especially when it comes to growing your business through social media, self-awareness, growth and healing. Watch this week’s episode HERE! You won’t regret it!

Training a team is all about communication, setting goals, and having an overarching purpose.
But how can you communicate correctly and make sure your team is aligned with what you want for your business?
Kye Probert is a service engineer who has transcended his skills as a technician and works as the leader of APT Hydraulics. The overall purpose of his business is to help hydraulics engineers be safer, more efficient, and fulfilled in their careers by providing the necessary training.
Sounds straightforward enough, right?
To achieve this, he has to make sure he is communicating properly with his team and their students. This includes making sure he understands how his students learn.
As he puts it, when you are trying to teach something and people don’t get it, it’s not their fault, it’s yours!
In this episode, Kyle talks about how preparation is even more important than the actual work you do every day. He lives by this, teaching others how to set everything up and practice on land before diving right into the sea.
We talk about the importance of visualization. From when you are surfing to when you’re doing business and you’re thinking about the next move you’re going to make.
Plus, talking about your vision with your team can make it more tangible. When you do this, the plan to achieve the set purpose turns into reality.
Kyle also emphasizes the importance of ensuring the vision and virtues of his company are clear for him and everyone working with him.
He has learned the hard way that without accountability, the virtues a business aspires to can get lost in the process.
We also talk about the importance of creating a workspace that’s fun without being unprofessional and promoting an environment that allows people to be vulnerable and express their creativity.

We all know it doesn't matter what the challenge is, whether it's approaching a bomb or getting your startup off the ground, having the right mindset is so key. Michelle's book Being More Human shows how the right mindset boosts productivity–and revenue.
Michelle also dives into what self-leadership is. Surfers will be empowered to learn there's a key quality that exceptional leaders have in common, and we've got it in spades.
So sit back and get ready to cover a lot of ground. We'll drop into self-leadership principles, being self-aware, vulnerable, authentic, having the right mindset, and what it means to be superhuman. This episode will transform the way you think about people and business.

At the age of 13, Jared Wiseman knew he wanted to settle for nothing less than living the ideal life. At 22, he launched his first business in the health and fitness industry and has since gone on to crush it ever since. Ray Bisschop is a visual marketing genius, designer, photographer, loving husband and devoted Dad who started surfing about 35 years ago, around the same time he started his passion of all things creative, these two things have led him three decades later to become owner and publisher of Surfing Life magazine, but there’s been a lot in between. When he started as a designer 30 years ago it was always a dream to work for Surfing Life… that just means don’t give up on your dreams.
In this episode Ray takes on his journey from being a kid with a dream to the man who is living a life that far succeeds. He tells us about the importance of being ready when the opportunity of your dreams comes knocking... being eager and "wanting" something just isn't enough, you need to prepare yourself and build the right skills in advance.
Ray is a defender of PASSION. Passion as a way of life. Most of you have probably heard the age old saying "love what you do, do what you love", well that would be a mantra made just for this man. He explains to us how mistakes and fuckups prepared him to own his dream business, and the importance of feeding your dream and feeling your passion is the key to achieving success.
As any surfer knows, surfing is not just a sport, it's a way of life. A way to connect to disconnect from electronic devices, reconnect with nature and tap into your creative side with an awakened and refreshed mind. For Ray, there is no work-life balance, it's all about life.
Before this episode we turned to you the listeners and asked what you would like Jade to hit Ray with, this led us on to a detailed conversation about diversity in terms of gender, race and sexuality in the competitive and business side of the sport. A great question about whether or not print (and magazines) was dead lead us down the rabbit hole on the environment issues and impact the industry has on our planet. Oh, and of course the question of wave pools -, good or evil, begged to be answered.....
Tune in and learn how living and working with passion can lead you to the business of your dreams!

He was bullied through school & being adopted not knowing his identity made things really tough but he persevered. He turned to drugs and alcohol as a teenager after his parents separation and just made it through high school.
But he found a way working multiple jobs as a teenager so that he could support my mother who ultimately taught me what love really is.
The PC Company was the 1st business owned responsible for sales and marketing and quickly grew in 2 short years to later sell to a multinational. (Acquired for $240k and sold for $1.1M). He was 30.
At this time Brent found his biological mother and her truth changed his life forever.
NGage Technology Group was the 2nd, built from scratch to another successful sale and exit reaching revenues of $27M in 5 years. (Co-Founded with $2k and selling 5 years & 9 months later for $2.5M)

The Future Phase is a leadership and training company that includes adventure into it’s programs to give corporate teams and entrepreneurs the tools they need to succeed.
He never imagined that along the way that he would also take ownership of Bells Surf Wax™ and also start a foundation to help teenagers find their calling Shred For Life.
Brent is an inspiration. And he attributes the feedback to being generous, vulnerable and open with my diverse life experiences.
His kids are everything and he loves surfing and snowboarding and taking people on inspiring adventures.
He's a passionate philanthropist who loves to mentor youth, environmentalist and aspiring author (currently writing first book but it is taking forever).
Tune in and discover why and how you must face your own fuckups!

Journey of Self Discovery (01:55)
A commitment to self and being at awe with nature. From epic diving adventures to all the fun stuff, this is the perfect time to reconnect our diction with nature. We owe this worthiness and sense of boundless freedom by being truly committed to ourselves.
“On a journey of self discovery and as we all are, and of course we are probably in one of the best times on the planet to be in self discovery and self evolution, so super happy. “
Connecting with Nature (11:09)
Discover the true essence of owning your time and grounding your priorities with nature. Create a value of self first to shift your reality. Giving time, effort and space for really nurturing yourself will change the order or things. Spend more time on things that you love to do. Immerse and be with nature for an overwhelming yet humbling experience.
“Once you are committed to something that’s gonna raise your vibration, allow you to become who you are as a human being, everything will shift around you to support it.”
Dealing with the Soul Sucking Search for Significance (13:04)
Don’t get caught up with the habit of beating yourself and equating success with status and material things. Identify the predominant drive and set up morning practice of really doing some physical work to tune the mind. Create that consciousness that you’re looking for and seize the day.
“In the routine itself is the cleansing of the mind, it’s awakening of the body, activating the body. It’s getting into the body. It’s an opportunity to sit quiet and meditate, to sit in nature and just be in absolute overwhelming gratitude for what is around us.”
Blessing in Bankruptcy and Bouncing Back (21:57)
The ego and life circumstance would greatly define how we perceive success. The constant struggle of absolute financial freedom can most often hinder us to truly see what’s vital. Being stripped off from these material perceptions is a very humbling experience. This will enable us to dive deep into a spiritual rabbit hole of self inquiry. To be able identify what truly matters in life.
“I got to a place with an ego that was so big that I couldn’t see anything else.”
Consumerism and Coronavirus (30:34)
This mentality of greed and consuming more is the very reason why our planet is compromised. The sickness of the planet is significantly represented by this novel virus amidst our population. The world we know is now in a great pause to give us the time. A time to reflect and re-asses not just our lives, but also our business and everything it has built upon.
“It’s a great pause for our planet. What we can see is that the planet can work together, governments can work together like that. So if we actually want to save our planet… then we can… “
Freedom X Festival and Future-Proofing Your Business (40:00)
A discovery to freedom. Experience and break the system. Find yourself and get off from the routine. Have that business retrospection and identify skills that people can use on this shifting time. Future-proof businesses and redirect to a space that could add value.
“Find a way of actually finding ourselves, our own personal freedom. But then finding a way of how we can set up a beautiful freedom of lifestyle.”

Living the Lifestyle Between Business and Play (13:05)
A glimpse of the blissful life in Bali. Whether it’s off-season or discovering some awesome non-tourist spots, one could easily get in the Bali bubble. As a business owner who loves to surf, it’s always important to get the right perspective in all that you do. Understand what you want and how you’d want to achieve it. From board discussions to mentoring and finding a good coach, everything should lead to one goal -- And that is to get better everyday.
“So many guys are chasing these tiny boards and are so barrel focused.. But the reality is for most people out there is you’re not catching barrels, you just want to be a better surfer, ride more waves, so I would go off a bit from what the “pros” ride, that’s for sure.”
Finding Balance with Productivity, Structure and Technology Tools (34:21)
Every business needs an appropriate amount of discipline and hardwork. Beyond amazing work ethic, it’s also important to identify business burn-out. Take time-outs to reflect and know what works for you. Learn the ropes of your platform and always explore for new options. Focus on your product and prove to yourself that there is a market for it.
“It’s super important these days to have a strong brand and really really good products and those fundamental things.”
The Catalyst That Will Define Business Standpoints (52:17)
Business challenges may come unexpected and most often it can really knock you down. By understanding these risks and knowing how to leverage options can greatly work to your advantage. The e-commerce space is awesome, especially if you want that location interdependence with unlimited scale opportunity. The tough part however, is keeping up with all the changes. It’s such a fast paced space but catching on the fundamentals to achieve that business goal is worth all the risk.
“pick a market that you really know… “
What’s Worth Your Time and Task Delegation (1:08:38)
It’s always a trial and error for any start-up. Being able to identify as to what adds more value to your time is a critical skill that every business owner should acquire. This way financial decisions and efficient task delegation could further streamline your process and in turn minimize mistakes.
“...as your business grows and you're at different stages, you just gotta keep your ears open and try to pull your head out of the waves..”
The Relationship Between Mentoring and ROI (1:17:06)
It’s always great and helpful to find a good mentor, but always look for hard proof. Do something that’s not too big of an investment, time and money wise and go from there. Get someone who you would really need at that time. If you’re going to put money into something, then you’d surely want to have that return.
“I dip my toe in the water with someone. I might do something that’s not too big an investment in time and money wise and then go from there.”
Business Technology and Tools (1:35:30)
Always take 100% responsibility in everything that happens in the business. Execute ideas and use tools to measure productivity. Know those tools and make your metrics straight to the point. This will help identify wastage and maximize cost.
“Go through the shit, feel bad about it but then pull yourself out and figure out what to do to fix it and then to actually fix it.. execution. People that always have all these ideas is great but execution for me is like 95% of business. You can have the best ideas in the world but if you don’t execute.. Discipline and consistent discipline and action is what success is about.”
Tips and Recommendations (1:46:26)
Read a good book and get your own internet access and VPN when traveling and running a business at the same time. Also don’t forget to upgrade or renew your computer at least every two years and don’t forget your backup. That is the most important tool for every business and digital nomad.
“... I’m time poor like most people. But what this book [The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday] does to me is it just gives you little perspectives on life. Reading something like that for two minutes can totally set my whole day up for feeling great about the day and get into it.”

In this episode, I sat down with Luke Farr, a great friend of mine who’s had a 10 year career in sales across media, real estate, and technology surpassing 20 Million in sales revenue. Luke has a firm belief that the key to sustainable success is the fundamental aspect of building sound relationships. He believes that the strength of a person’s emotional intelligence determines the strength of their relationships and thus their outcomes. Luke has an amazing ability to build authentic relationships with a wide variety of personalities which enables him to understand them and their businesses, and hence provide them with the best solutions to generate their desired results.
Luke will share some of his expertise on how you as a business owner can hedge your business from the effects of the current pandemic so that when things get normal you can effortlessly revert to business as usual. Businesses are currently facing a lot of challenges especially with cash flow and he will highlight the critical importance of taking time to build valuable and meaningful relationships with customers. One great way of achieving that is by doing weekly check-in calls just to see how a customer is doing without selling them anything. That will ensure long term and genuine customer loyalty which will benefit your business immensely in the long run. You won’t wanna miss this episode as we dive deeper into the art of sales and relationship building, so stay tuned, take notes, and enjoy!

In this episode, I sat down with Monty Hooke, another great friend of mine who owns three businesses and sits on three boards. Monty is a long-time hustler with killer entrepreneurial skills that date back to the age of eight years old when he was running his own boat-cleaning business. He also happens to own a highly successful virtual assistant outsourcing company with clients across the globe that I actually used to source my own virtual assistant.
Monty is an absolute captain of industry and his true gift lies in his amazing ability to see the unseen for entrepreneurs. He not only helps them connect the dots from where they are now to their vision, but also sees the gifts and abilities in entrepreneurs that they may not be able to see themselves. That always puts him in a unique position to be able to activate potential, a higher purpose, and a deeper connection to spirit. That, coupled with a lifetime of experience actually building business, growing teams, and developing strategies for growth, gives him a very unique depth of vision in his capacity to mentor others.
Having grown up on a boat, he learned the importance of not comparing his own progress to that of others, and has applied that lesson to his epic rise through business. He’s going to give some inspiring advice here today for all you business owners, so if you’ve been wondering about things like how to find and hire the best team, when to take advantage of gaps in the market, or how to run a business from the beaches of Bali, give this episode a listen.

In this episode, I sat down with Chris Dufey, the CEO of Coaches Cartel, a company that helps fitness coaches, gym owners, and fitness professionals build their businesses online. Chris is a health and fat loss specialist and business mentor that gives business owners the confidence and exact next steps to achieve the body and lifestyle they want. He’s also an international speaker and author around the expertise and real-world know how that he got out of learning to transform his own body and then successfully transforming the bodies of world class bikini and fitness models, actors, and Arab Sheiks.
While sharing how he had to overcome the worst of his days to build a successful business, you will really feel his passion. He started out more as anyone else does. He had a vision to pursue, and though the road was not so clear cut for him, he managed a level of success that many only dream about, and he’s going to open up about how he built his business empire from scratch. His insights on money and success are also really enlightening. He believes that even though success doesn’t come easy, the reward of knowing you have finally made it makes the struggle worthwhile.
And in a society where success is measured by how much money one makes, Chris looks beyond just making money to making an impact. The drive behind his business is providing more value to each of his clients, and that way, he creates more profit, which in turn gives him the ability to help more people. Tune in to this episode for much more of his expertise and so he can guide you through building your dream business by teaching you how to find the best next steps to wipe off the frustration of trying everything and have the clear steps to earning the money you want, whilst doing what you love.

In this episode, I had a chat with Rory Callaghan, a great friend of mine that I met in Bali at a time in my life when I was trying to decide whether I should continue with the ego-based business and all of the awards and things I was doing, or shift towards my passion and purpose. He really helped me on my journey to becoming who I am today and he has an enormously inspiring life story about how he overcame insurmountable odds to achieve some pretty great things. So many of us work so hard to achieve certain careers that we end up wanting to leave later on in our lives, but are always terrified to leave them because of our ego or fear of the unknown, but Rory overcame all that to embrace what he felt was his purpose and he’s been to help many others do the same in their lives.
