Mindfulnikki and Nurielle Auguste

Hi, I'm @MindfulNikki Co-Host of the "JustBE Mindful Podcast"! As a mindfulness teacher, author of the "JustBE Mindfulness Guidebook", and a JustBE Mindful Mentor to teens; I wanted to create a Podcast not only for teens, but also for teachers and parents of teens. It was important I bring on board a teen's voice to this Podcast. Luckily Nurielle Auguste and I crossed paths, joining the JustBE team, and becoming the Host for this Podcast. She is a dynamic senior in high school, focusing on Journalism and getting her voice out there in each episode. Together we navigate difficult teen issues like toxic friends, failed expectations, and heartbreak through a mindfulness perspective. There is valuable insights in each Podcast, not only for teens, but for the adults in their lives who love em'.

Today’s Podcast has 2 very dear guests to me who I happen to know for quite some time.  They are teens, 17 & 15 yrs to be exact.  Our guests today are my daughters Zoe and Maya.  I know I am a bit biased, but I think you’ll see for yourself that these two provide an authentic expression of what many teens go through when experiencing FOMO, fear of missing out, and loneliness.  My hope is that in this convo they have with Nuri, that it normalizes this common experience for teens, and helps parents and those working with teens understand how this manifests. Ok, get ready, cause this is going to be really good.

Teens are the most stressed out of any age group! Did you know this? My hope for this Podcast remains the same from its inception; to normalize what teens experience, and to create open-minded conversations that connect with teens, parents, teachers and all others who work with teens. Nuri and I explore in this episode her experiences with parent pressure, and I add in my experiences with parent pressure growing up and how it shaped and informed how I parent now. Plus we go into root causes of what can make parents put unnecessary pressure on their kids. Stay till’ the end, as I guide you through a few minutes of JustBE-ing, leaving you feeling more aware and clear.

I asked Nuri why she felt it was important to do this topic and she said: "I felt like I needed to do an episode on the dangers of being a black female because people need to know our daily fight, and they need to be aware of the unfair obstacles that we face as we have been silenced in the corner for decades."

This episode is important for all of us to tune in, no matter what age you are, color, or where you are from. Learning more, means you can do more and BE more aware. Let's do that--together.

Social media is apart of pretty much every teen's life. On the positive side it can be very creative while connecting you to the people and things you love. On the negative side, if we're not mindful of the images we're taking in and the people we are connecting to, we can easily get lost in a sea of comparisons, and erroneous beliefs about how others are living based on what they choose to post on social media.

JustBE Tip: My words have power. Practicing this JustBE intention will inform you of how your words truly have power, and the resonance they leave behind. This will directly influence what you say and don't say to yourself, others, and what you choose to put on your social media feeds.
