Valentines Day weekend so you know what movie we'll be talking about, though I struggle to find the connection between BDSM and romance....guess I'm not with it anymore, that's right ladies and gentleman it's finally time to talk about 50 Shades of Grey. Also up this week is the long-awaited (to me at least) actioner Kingsman: The Secret Service. Cuddle up with your Valentine and take a listen, won't you?
After a month long break the PDC is back! This week comes hot on the heels of the 2015 Oscar nominations so we have plenty to cover as it is but you know us, gotta pack it in, so we're also going to be running down all of the movies you should know about for the next few months. Don't miss out!
Ridley Scott's biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings hits theaters and we are here to let you know if it lives up to the history behind it. Then it's on to Benedict Cumberbatch as the man who broke the Nazi's enigma code, Alan Turing, in The Imitation Game. Don't miss it!
It's that time of year when the Washington Area Film Critics Association picks their best of the year, we'll go over the nominations before the big announcement tomorrow morning.

This week we cover one of my most highly anticipated comedies of the year, Seth Rogen and Zack Efron in Neighbors. Then it's on to something we've unfortunatley had to neglect this year while we travel to Westeros and talk some Game of Thrones. Julian's seen the animated Legend of Oz: Dorothy's Return, we'll see if it lives up to the iconic name of Oz or if it shouldv'e been left on the cutting room.

It's the calm before the storm this week on the Punch Drunk Podcast! With summer movie season mere weeks away and Captain America two weeks past we get to talk about some smaller films that can satiate your cinematic needs until Spider-Man hits, namely the romantic comedy The Other Woman starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton...oh I can't forget about Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) who plays the man these three are fighting with/over. Then it's on to an American remake of an amazing french action film with Brick Mansions starring Paul Walker and Rza.
It's Easter Sunday and instead of sending you a basket full of jelly beans and chocolates we're bringing you reviews of this weekend's releases! Transcendence, the directorial debut of Wally Phister, famed cinematographer best known for his work with Christopher Nolan, helms the tale of A.I. gone terribly wrong with Johnny Depp and Rebecca Hall. Then it's a trip to A Haunted House 2 the follow up to Marlon Wayan's suprisingly funny parody of Paranormal Activity type movies. Let's be honest though, the real focus of today's show is going to be centered in King's Landing as we attempt to make sense of the now epic 'Purple Wedding', morale of the story: Regretfully decline any wedding invites sent from the seven kingdoms.
I honestly can't recall a show where we had three subjects on which we could devote a single show to entirely, this is that week. Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Raid 2, and the premier of Game of Thrones season 4 are all on the docket...three things that the PDC are equally rabid about! I don't know how we're going to fit this into 90 minutes but we're damn sure going to try!
Some weeks we have three movies that are very similar, this is not one of those weeks. First up is the biblical epic Noah starring Russell Crowe, then onto Ahhnold's return to his wheelhouse as a door busting DEA agent in Sabotage, finally we'll be tackling Jason Bateman's directorial debut with the hilarious Bad Words.

The day has finally come for all you die hard Veronica Mars fans! The true power of kickstarter is on full display as this crowd funded movie brings the cult hit to the big screen! Also up is Aaron Paul in his first role since the end of Breaking Bad as a street racer out for revenge in Need for Speed.
Today is the day! The 2014 Academy Awards kick off tonight so the Punch Drunk Critics are here to give you all of the info you need to be up to speed when the awards kick off!

We're winding down 2013 here at the PDC and what better way to celebrate the second to last show of the year than to talk about the worst that the theaters had to offer in 2013! If you have ever heard one of our "worst of" shows you know it's CERTAINLY not to miss.
It's not all things awful though as we get to talk two major awards contenders and possibly the most anticipated comedy sequel of the year with American Hustle, Inside Llewyn Davis, and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

This has caused upheaval not just across the internet but right here under the roof of the PDC. Well debate the pros/cons and get to the bottom of just why Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms. It must be huge news because it's taken top billing over a review we've been waiting 10 years to give, the finale to Edgar Wright's Cornetto trilogy, The World's End, does it hold up to it's predecessors Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz? The end of Summer is not taking it easy on us here at the PDC. With no less than 7 films coming out this past week from Wednesday to Friday there will be no time for the jibba jabba...but you know us better than that. We'll be hitting everything from gritty sci-fi blockbusters like Elysium starring Matt Damon to high flying animated family faire with Disney's Planes.
The last time we saw Wolverine hit the big screen in a solo effort the results were...well...divided. This weekend we get the follow-up The Wolverine and it looks like some of those negatives have been corrected. Then it's on to The To-Do List with Aubrey Plaza and then to the documentary that's making alot of waves The Act of Killing.
Don't judge a book by it's cover and don't judge a show by it's title, we have a WHOLE lot more to cover than just two flicks this time around. In no particular order we'll be talking Red 2, The Conjuring, RIPD, Only God Forgives, and Fruitvale Station. As if that wasn't enough we'll be breaking down all of the huge news out of SDCC (Batman/Superman team up....confirmed!). We may get lucky and have a few minutes with our man on the scene Travis Hopson who's been feeding us the great news straight from Hall H all weekend.
It's the final MAJOR release of Summer 2013 this week as the gang talks Guillermo Del Toro's Pacfic Rim. It's sure to be a crazy 90 minutes that you won't want to miss!
If were being honest this should be Episode 12: Tonto and the Minons. After all, isn't that the real draw of these two flicks?
The gang will break down the latest Johnny Depp shenanigans and talk about wether or not Gru was able to keep the funny in the animated sequel. Also, as a special addition to the show well be covering The Way Way Back with Rocky Hadadi.
We're about to Channing all over your Tatum as the crew breaks into C Tate's new action flick White House Down. Then we see if Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy can break down the buddy cop gender barrier in The Heat. Well get Rocky to talk us through the latest developments on HBO's Real Sex: Mythical Creatures....err, I mean, True Blood and as usual you can count on being showered in cinematic minutiae!
Here it is folks, the biggest movie of the year Man of Steel is out in theaters and the PDC is stepping into the arena to duke out a verdict. Opinons on this movie are so divisive that it's safe to expect a Zod V Superman battle for the ultimate verdict. If you want to know all sides of the story this is where you'll want to be!
One week until Man of Steel so it's a great thing that we have SO many new releases to dish over. One supremely horrific premise in The Purge, a possibly horrific turn for the Frat Pack's comedy stylings with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in The Internship and, quite possibly, the big sleeper indie hit of the year with The Kings of Summer. That's not to say we won't talk Man of Steel...cause that's definitely happening too! Tune in, sit back, and have a laugh. Oh...and don't think we forgot about the Red Wedding....

Why do I know this? Well...I've talked with the crew and everyone's really ready to talk about all things After Earth including the movie itself, M. Night Shamalyn (that spelling's close enough)..and the tendency to put your kid/wife/husband in all of the movies you do.

We're back and, if I may say so myself, stronger than ever! Our inagural show that will feature the PDC in full is kicking off and we want you to join us! Travis and John will be joined by our fellow PDCer's Rocky Hadadi and Julian Lyte for a less formal and sure to be fun hour were we kick around our thoughts on the latest releases, releases soon to come, and because we don't like to run too far from what works we'll also be talking about DVD releases and all the news that's shaking the cinematic world. Usually that would be more than enough to fill a few hours but we're also going to somehow manage to fit in Judd Apatow's latest This is 40 and the Billy Crystal/Bette Midler vehicle Parental Guidance. Well, we've finally come to the weekend movie geeks across the globe have awaited for close to a decade. The continuation, or rather begining, of the Lord of the Rings franchise as 'The Hobbit' charges into theaters across the country. Does it live up? Should they have just let it be? Travis and I will explore everything Baggins as the fate of pop culture hangs in the balance. We'll also be talking to Roger Michell, the director of this week's other big release 'Hyde Park on Hudson' a film that gives us Bill Murray dressed as FDR playing it serious!
It's a HUGE week around the PDC as we are getting ready to vote on the annual Washington Area Film Critics Association (can you see why we use WAFCA?) awards. The awards are decided by the best and brightest film critics from the nation's capital and if history teaches us anything it will be a good preview of the Oscar's! Travis and John will break down all of the nominees and what we think will be taking home the night's honors. As if that weren't enough we'll also be delivering reviews of this week's major releases, Deadfall, a heist gone wrong movie with Olivia Wilde and Playing for Keeps starring Gerard Butler.
All kinds of killing going on this week on PDC Live as we take a look at a movie that had me at hello with it's first set picture, Brad Pitt's Killing Them Softly. Next it's on to Jigsaw's possibly more insane movie cousin in The Collection, the sequel to the awesome indie horror hit The Collector. It's trap filled houses without the moral overtones!
A hollywood legend, an 80's action staple remade, and a movie many claim to be the next Avatar, that's this week in a nutshell (thanks Austin Powers for not letting me use that phrase without quoting you). We take a look at the Anthony Hopkin's starring biopic Hitchcock then we join a pack of Wolverines in Red Dawn and last but certainly not least, we find out if Life of Pi is a new classic or just a treat for the eyes.
We wrap up the epic Twilight saga with our reviews of Breaking Dawn Pt. 2 then it's on to the ridiculously good looking with Silver Lininging's Playbook starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence and lastly Keira Knightley breaks type with a the period peace Anna Kareninia.
We have a chat with acclaimed character and voice actor Phil Lamarr to talk about the upcoming season of Futurama, the return of Star Wars, and whether anybody remembers him from Pulp Fiction.

With news that Disney had bought Lucasfilm and is moving forward with Episode VII fans went nuts, both for and against. With more questions than answers we at the PDC want to sort through the rubble and see what will become. We are extremely happy to welcome special guest Nick Maley, one of the geniuses behind the creation of Yoda, and who worked on A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back to talk all things Star Wars, plus take a look back at his storied career that includes Superman and Krull! It will be a day long remembered!!
The driving force behind one of the groups that defined 90's hip hop, Rza of the WuTang Clan took time out to talk to the Punch Drunk Critics about his new film The Man with the Iron Fists, a Kung Fu extravaganza with heavy roots in old school martial arts cinema. John and Travis will bring you up to speed on the movie and Rza's journey to get to this point. As well as bring you the man himself to talk about this dream project of his.
I'm going to start sounding like a broken record saying that we have a packed show for you so from now until February let's just go with that assumption. Ironically, we've chosen a week where there are no big movies to do our Most Anticiapted Movies of 2012 show. We'll pick and chose the films that have been on our radars for years and that we think have the best shot at being remembered at the end of the year.
But before we get to that, we'll have reviews of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, featuring Nick Cage's return as the flame headed anti-hero. Plus, Tom Hardy and Chris Pine blow are willing to kill over Reese Witherspoon in This Mean War!
