We cover Nova’s background and learn about her business statistics. We discuss a bit about her experience as a business owner, how long she's been in business, and how many businesses she's started, stopped, or failed. We also chatted about her previous jobs before going into business.
We discussed why she started her business and what it was like to start a business. We also talk about the struggles of being a business owner, like dealing with the comparison game of bigger is always better and not being able to switch off. Nova, also shares tips for anyone who's starting a business or an e-commerce business.

As you will hear in this episode, the elopement collective is a squad of wedding industry leaders and creatives that create epic and intimate elopements for couples in Australia and around the world.

As we discussed throughout this episode, some of the benefits include not only the potential cost savings, a lot less stress and time involved in having a plan and organise your special day. Most importantly the opportunity for couples to have a day of their choosing, without all of the external pressure and expectations that seems to come with having a wedding.

I answer your questions about saving money, credit cards and superannuation.
Questions
Q: How do I save more money? I have a full-time job and earn good money for my age, but I can't seem to be able to save money.
Q: Is it a good idea to get a credit card? I am thinking of going travelling and have heard that its good for points?
Q: Should I put more money into superannuation? I am 25 years old and work as a high school teacher, and people at work are always telling me I should put money into super?

The Australian Dream or Great Australian Dream is a belief that in Australia, home-ownership can lead to a better life and is an expression of success and security. Everywhere we turn there is constant pressure for our generation to buy a house and get into the property market. This constant pressure has left our generation not feeling successful unless they have bought a house.

With the increasing cost of living affecting most Australian households, it is easy to see why national debt levels are at an all-time high. Unfortunately, too many families rely on their credit card and are living week to week which makes it nearly impossible to get out of debt and get ahead financially. If you find yourself with some or a lot of debt, it is essential that you understand what debt is and what type of debt you have. As it is necessary to be aware that not all debt is the same and there is, in fact, a type of debt that can be good.

Good debt is that type of debt that is your friend and if you are going to have any debt at all this is the type you want.
Bad Debt, the type of debt that unfortunately for most Australians we need to have some of this in our lives to provide us with one of our essential needs which is place to live.
Ugly Debt, the worst type of debt, which unfortunately too many Australian families have too much of and are what causes a lot of stress on the household budget.

“I was a travel photographer, documenting life all over the world and it sounds stupid but it actually left me feeling unfulfilled. Posting photos documenting a life where each new country was simply in between and before the next trip. It was an incredibly humbling position to be in, but it was not me. It took me a while to realise and accept that...To come to terms with the fact that, just because it is the dream job for a lot of people doesn’t mean it has to be the dream job for me. I needed something that anchors my day, something that structures my lifestyle - a world where early mornings are a given and pushing the physical limits of my body is a daily occurrence”.

On this Episode, I am sharing with you what I believe to be some of the benefits of going on holiday and travelling overseas.
Episode Sponsor
This episode is brought to you by More Time Financial. A financial planning, money management and financial education company who are on a mission to help young Australians make smarter decisions with their money.
I think one of the biggest surprises my new clients get when I first down with them to talk about their money and their lives. Is when I recommend that they start saving for their next trip or holiday ASAP. A lot of the time they say, I thought you would be telling us we aren’t allowed to go on holiday and to be savings all of our money into super or something like that.
While I do recommend my clients to put money into their superannuation, I also strongly recommend that they plan to go on holidays and travel. That is because I believe that travelling is super important, especially for us a young Australians.
Perceptive
Firstly, I believe the biggest benefit of travelling outside of your home country is that it provides you with an appreciation and Perspective, of what else is out in the world.
Real World Experience
Experiences like Trying to read a non-English menu and order breakfast in Portugal, having your flight delayed by 3 hours, missing your transfer from the airport and trying to find your accommodation at 3:00am with no phone or internet reception. And many other priceless experiences that can’t be learnt in any other way besides being there and experiencing it for yourself.
Looks good on your Resume
talking with other people who have returned from traveling and are now starting their careers, for a lot of them they said that having gaps in their resumes due to a few months or years of livings aboard or travelling overseas has actually helped their job prospects because their employers have seen this to be beneficial.
Financial tips for savings to travel

Credit Cards, you may have one or two but do you know how to use them and what that fine print on the bottom of your application means?

In its simplest form, credit cards allow you to borrow money up to a certain limit which you are then required to pay back over at some stage. Some people use credit cards to pay for things that they otherwise couldn't afford, which I strongly don't recommend you do, but sometimes it is unavoidable. Maybe you like to travel and want to build up points, which is a pretty standard reason for people to get their first credit card. Other people use credit cards to help them smooth out their cash flow, so this may be a small business owner who only gets paid at infrequent times and in variable amounts, so having a credit card to see them through the month may help to achieve this.
There are a number of reason why people use a credit card but the main one is that people don’t have money in their bank account to pay for something they want or need so they purchase it on credit. Which if you aren’t good at managing your money can be very dangerous and can leave you with a lot of debt.

Money is such a strange topic and for the most of us it is still a taboo subject and when you throw in another complex layer like a relationship, shit gets even more confusing and has the potential to cause serious.. serious issues in a relationship.
I see this when I talk to clients, one person has a goal of starting a business and the other partner wants to buy a house which means there is a conflict. Some couples share bank accounts others do not, there is no right or wrong answer. It comes down to how comfortable you are in your relationship and what works for you and your partner. But here are my tips and things you need to consider when dealing with money in a relationship.

Key Questions:
Q - What does money mean to you?
A - Money is the freedom to live your life the way you want to live it.
Q - What impact do you see social media having on our generation?
A - Social media is poison, it breeds insecurity, which leads to compulsive buying behaviour like buying new clothes and cars, which then leads to bias agendas. My recommendation is to just switch it off.

In this Episode of the Young Money Podcast with Ross Marais, I have a chat with my first guest Philippa Meecham. Pip as she is known by to everyone, is the founder and driving force of ProjectBox.
Growing up in New Zealand, dropping out of school to start her first job at the age of 16, Pip has been working in administration and office management roles ever since. Working across different countries, industries and office environments has given Pip the experience and expertise to help other small business owners to systemise, automate, identify and solve the problems that are holding them back in their business .
“Project box was born to really help people systemise their businesses.” Working mainly with tradesmen anywhere between 25 - 35 years old and within their first five years of business, who are either at the point where going from a sole trader to a company or wanting to grow their business as a sole trader. What makes Pip smile and what makes her happy is the feedback she gets from talking to her clients and hearing them tell her how much she has helped them and how easy things actually are when you have a system in place.
Pip is incredibly passionate about helping others to reach their goals and anything that she does she puts her heart and soul into it.

The Young Money Podcast with me (Ross Marais), is designed to change the conversation we have about money, from the media’s negative portrayals to more of a go-to resource and good news story. Each week we will be bringing you a discussion about money that is relevant to our generation as well as interviews with Young Australian's who are doing something amazing with their lives. From young Aussies living overseas to those opening their own businesses on the Gold Coast, we will be talking to about travel, business, relationships and most importantly – what role money plays in their lives.
Being a Financial Planner at More Time Financial, I see the best and the worst of what money brings and the challenges it presents to young Australians. Even though the implications of having or needing money can be some of the most difficult, the idea behind More Time Financial, from its inception two-and-a-half years ago, is to focus on young people and close the gap between where they are and where they want to be financially.
In the first episode of The Young Money Podcast, I talk about the traditional understanding of financial planners do and why young Australians aren’t being taken care of as much when it comes to their money or their plans for their future. I share my experiences and challenges of going into business with my father in order to help my generation and hopefully change their perspective on finance. I discuss the importance of getting the right information and how between the ages of 20 and 35, we experience the some of the most challenging lessons of our life. We are going to bring you these conversations and introduce you to young Australians who are all going through the same challenges as you are while they chase their life goals.
This podcast aims to deliver insight into what I see as a financial planner in my day-to-day consultations, and how young Australians from a range of backgrounds and experiences see the world and view the topic of money in Australia. This podcast series will try to break the taboo subject of talking about money and hopefully inspire young Australians to seek more resources and educate themselves on how to be smarter with their finances. Episode Two will feature Phillippa Meecham – The owner and driving force of Project Box, who talks about starting her own business and how she is aiming to help improve the lives of her clients. Episode Two will be available from next week on Itunes and where ever you get your podcasts.
