The A+ Parents podcast, Hosted by “Mr. D Math Live” Founder Dennis DiNoia, speaks with parents, homeschool organizations, and homeschool influencers on how to help our students become self-directed learners.
Our programs encourage students to discover how to learn vs what to learn and how to teach others what they are learning along the way. Mr. D Math Live programs empower students to correct their work, discover their own ah-ha moments and develop lifelong self-mastery skills.
We share tips, tricks and stories from educators on how students can think for themselves by teaching them to operate with free will, accountability, honor, and respect.
Our unique approach awakens students to discover their own unique expression of how they view education. They communicate what they’ve discovered and apply their knowledge to “the world outside of a classroom.” We focus on multiple learning styles allowing students to discover their own strengths in how they learn.
After all, what does every parent truly want? We all want our children to have a great life beyond what their report card says. That is what it means to be an A+ Parent. Grades are important. But not as important as the lifetime of happiness through self-discovery and knowledge mastery.
Welcome to the A+ Parent podcast and thank you for listening.

Richard Risbrudt, “Mr. Riz” is a high school chemistry teacher of 46 years, teaching at a community high school for 17 years and a private high school for 29 years. After receiving many requests from the homeschool community, including former students who homeschooled their children to develop a high school chemistry course, ChemExplained.com became a reality.
Over the years, Mr. Riz has learned to teach and explain challenging chemistry concepts, problems, and math calculations in words that thousands of students could understand. Students that have taken the college-prep ChemExplained.com course have been very successful in chemistry and other courses at the next academic level.
Richard’s teaching honors include the Ashland Oil Excellence in Education Award, Fergus Falls (MN) Teacher of the Year, "Most Influential Teacher” Award, Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Education Award, and Certificates of Recognition for his teaching from three Minnesota Governors; Rudy Perpich, Arne Carlson, and Jesse Ventura. In the spring of 2018, he was inducted into the Minnesota High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame. A recent quote from Mr. Riz: "I absolutely love helping students of all ages learn and understand chemistry. This is my passion!"
Richard is married to his wife, Denise. They have three grown children, nine grandchildren, and live in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Growing up in the middle of Minnesota's cornfields, Jenna Edwards had some big dreams. She wanted to make people laugh on TV, inspire change, and travel the world. Life wasn't easy, though. Born to teenage parents who split when she was three, Jenna faced poverty and abuse until her mom took a stand, and they escaped.
In her early twenties, Jenna set off for Los Angeles, to make her dreams come true. She even landed a role on the legendary "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" show. Imagine inheriting Buffy's powers! But then, a terrible accident shook her world. She struggled with debilitating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) but learned that asking for help is a sign of strength, just like Buffy asking her friends for help. Now, she’s on a mission to empower others through writing and producing, inspiring them to face their own "big bads." Remember, you have a choice. Will you stand up? Jenna currently lives in Los Angeles with her loving and supportive husband, Craig. You can find out more at www.jennaedwards.com

Jami Newman is a native from central Florida and a long-time homeschool parent. Her and her husband have raised three children outside of the traditional school setting for the last 12 years and plan to graduate all of them from home. Jami’s children have been homeschooled all their lives.
Jami’s two sons both play travel baseball, and her daughter is a successful, small-business owner, dual enrollment student, and equestrian. Having begun as a more "traditional" homeschooler, Jami has grown to become more child directed as her kids have grown into their teens. During the covid year, her family took a plunge and purchased a piece of land in Florida outside of the city. They helped their daughter grow a small equine business at their home, which she runs almost completely by herself now.
Jami also directs a very small, nonprofit, homeschool cooperative group, which focuses on building close relationships and critical thinking skills through offering parent-lead courses with common annual themes. When Jami is not traveling for baseball, assisting her daughter in her equine business, homeschooling, or running her cooperative group, she enjoys gardening, exercise, and tending to her chickens on their micro farm.

Hailing from Los Angeles, Jay Mitsch has spent 25+ years in education as a classroom math and science teacher, tutor, test prep specialist, coach, mentor and all around super fan of the students he's supported. Growing up in Philadelphia, he told his father that education was broken after a horrendous science lesson in 3rd grade. He went on to Muhlenberg College and majored in Mathematics, dual certified for elementary and secondary teaching and ended up teaching Math and coaching soccer in Boca Raton, FL. After 5 years in the classroom, he made the exciting jump from dealing with teenagers to dealing with Hollywood.
While learning the ropes in the film and television world, Jay created his own education company that was grounded in the belief that every student can learn and every student can succeed if given the exact support they need. Gravity Assist is the third iteration of Jay's unique vision of education. Gravity Assist spawned from the belief that all students, and people for that matter, are on their own path. Using planetary gravitational force principles and modern approaches, Gravity Assist slingshots the student further than imagined.
Personally, Jay has a great wife and awesome 7 year old son. If he's not doing math, he's running, hiking or surfing or playing with his son.

Genevieve Noelle is a homeschooled, Florida, teen, native to Ohio. Her love for writing and passion for books came reluctantly at first. She was not at all interested in reading or writing until her mother was "too slow" finishing a book she was reading aloud to Genevieve and her siblings. Genevieve picked up the book to read it herself instead. Her love for books, reading, writing, and drawing very quickly blossomed.
Genevieve decided to unleash her own imagination and her first novel series, "A Dog in Time," was born! With lots of hard work and perseverance she pushed forward to meet her goals of publishing her books to share with kids and families everywhere!
Noelle hopes to inspire children all over the world to read, write, and to never give up! She hopes you enjoy these wonderful adventures and characters in this first introduction to her imagination, "A Dog in Time!"

In college Nate Noorlander double-majored in philosophy and history teaching. After a stint as a project manager with a disaster repair company, he moved to Beijing, China, where he taught IGCSE and A Level history at the Cambridge International Curriculum Center of Beijing Normal University. He also spent time touring in India and trekking in Nepal.
Worn out by the Beijing air, Nate moved home with his family and taught English and history at Mountainville Academy, and then the American International School of Utah. At AISU he developed mini-courses in boredom and awareness (probably close to what many people call mindfulness) based around Heidegger’s ideas about technology, and Nicholas Carr’s ideas about what the internet does to our brains, areas of study that (perhaps ironically) he finds compelling.
Worn out this time by life in the beautiful mountain west he returned to Beijing, where he taught IB history, IB English, and Theory of Knowledge at the Yew Chung International School of Beijing. When Covid-19 hit he was coaching the boys basketball team and gearing up for an end-of-season tournament in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, ignorant of what was coming.
The trip was canceled, his family just made it out of Beijing on a flight three times its usual cost, and he stuck it out in the shuttered city for another six weeks. When life didn’t change, he left too. Since then it’s been all history with The Nomadic Professor.

Christy-Faith’s experience includes a 20+ year career in K-college academics and administration where she’s worked in and instructed every level of education in a professional capacity—with diverse student populations including gifted, those with learning challenges/diagnoses, and 2E (twice exceptional) students. The scope of her work involved counseling and educating parents as well as training and mentoring teachers. She is a teacher’s teacher.
After starting her career as a classroom teacher, and then earning her Master’s degree, Christy found great success starting and running a private educational center and consulting firm with her husband. Christy worked directly with thousands of students K-college from both public and private schools, trained and managed a large staff of specialists and tutors, poured over IEPs, and discussed student needs with principals, admissions counselors, therapists, psychologists, and parents. Becoming known for highly individualized educational plans and impressive academic outcomes, Scott and Christy's learning center grew into one of the most successful private learning centers in the country.
When they started their family, Christy decided to explore homeschooling and it blew her mind/changed her entire view on educating kids. She has found homeschooling so rewarding and healthy for herself and her kids that she now uses her teaching expertise and mentoring skills to help moms along their homeschooling journey. She spends her days advising moms in her exploding membership, Thrive Homeschool Community, and imperfectly educating her four “endlessly entertaining” kids in Colorado with Scott, her husband.
Christy recently signed with a large publisher and her book on the topic of homeschooling will hit shelves in 2024.

Jay Mitsch has spent 25+ years in education as a classroom math and science teacher, tutor, test prep specialist, coach, mentor and all around super fan of the students he's supported. He told his father when he was 11 that education was broken after a horrendous science lesson.
He went on to major in Mathematics and dual certify for elementary and secondary teaching and ended up teaching Math and coaching soccer in Boca Raton, FL. After 5 years in the classroom, he made the exciting jump from dealing with teenagers to dealing with Hollywood.
While learning the ropes in the film and television world, Jay created his own education company that was grounded in the belief that every student can learn and every student can succeed if given the exact support they need. Gravity Assist is the third iteration of Jay's vision. Gravity Assist spawned from the belief that all students, and people for that matter, are on their own path. Using planetary gravitational forces, they slingshot the student further than imagined.
Personally, Jay has a great wife and awesome 6 year old son. If he's not doing math, he's running, hiking or surfing or playing with his son.

Shannan Swindler has started home education co-ops, and conferences. She also creates curricula and teaches online about World Geography and Life Skills. She is passionate about helping families use the world as their classroom to homeschool, travel and learn together.
Shannan’s motto is “Have Passport. Will Travel”. She can pack a travel itinerary (and a lesson plan) the same way she packs her carry-on. Tight, exciting, and on budget. Her first trip to Europe was in 1995. She thought it was going to be one of those “once-in-a-lifetime” adventures. Little did she know, they were just re-orienting their compass and charting a whole new course. Now, after a number of trips to Europe, she lives in Scotland with her favorite travel buddy and 2 travel apprentices.
Shannan loves dark chocolate, freshly roasted coffee, red wine, thoughtful conversation, captivating itineraries, and of course, stamps in her passport. When she’s not organizing a daytrip or her next week’s science or art lesson, you can find her walking a quiet, local path foraging for berries, herbs, and mushrooms while the kids meander, explore, and ask inquisitive questions (these often lead to her next week’s science and art lessons!).

Ask a homeschool parent to list their biggest obstacles, and “teaching math” will probably appear close to the top of that list. In response to this concern, Nicole Thomas created Nicole the Math Lady – on-demand video lessons for Saxon Math students that make math approachable and enjoyable for kids and parents. Under Nicole’s direction, what began as a website serving a few dozen students has grown to serve over tens of thousands of students each day. Nicole the Math Lady inspires families and students to see when learning is joyful, there are no limits to what a child can learn. Nicole holds a BA in Economics and a BA in Psychology from Stanford University and resides in Orlando, Florida with her husband, Don and her two children, Sydney and Justin.

Jonathan Fanning is the author of several books, including Who are you BECOMING? and I Once Was Lost. He has been coaching leaders – from Fortune 500 executives to sole proprietors – for almost 20 years. If you are familiar with TED talks, Jonathan was voted the best speaker at a recent TED conference. A traumatic car accident and several other “Frying Pan” moments in the middle of Fanning’s career as a management consultant to Fortune 500 companies triggered a quest for a deeper sense of purpose, meaning, and significance. “Who are you BECOMING?” and “Who are you helping the people around you to BECOME?” became central to Jonathan’s life, writing, and speaking.
He has also built several successful businesses, including a national children’s fitness franchise and Entrepreneur Adventure, which helps young people experience business start-up and ownership. He has inspired and challenged audiences with his message in 49 states and on 3 continents. Jonathan lives in NY with his amazing wife and two angelic daughters!

Erica Orosco Cruz is an early childhood development expert and parent coach who helps children, families, and teachers thrive and grow together on the foundation of mutual respect. She is certified through RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers) and the state of California and is also trained in the Waldorf methods.
Erica’s passion for supporting families stems from her own experience as a mother of 4 boys (ranging in ages from 1 to 25!), and a daughter who set out to parent in a different way than she was as a child. While raising her children, she searched to find a program that brought children to the forefront while also providing clear boundaries for mutual respect; a program where children would be seen and heard and where adults would see with new eyes and listen for what was unsaid. When she realized what she was looking for didn’t exist, she founded Homeschool Garden, a now two-decade-old early childhood development center in Los Angeles.

Charla McKinley graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Finance. She went on to become a Certified Public Accountant with over 25 years working in both the corporate and private sectors. While homeschooling her two children, Charla was inspired to write an interactive personal finance curriculum that opens the student's eyes to the high costs of being an adult. After retiring from homeschooling, Charla continues to teach teens living in Raleigh, NC, and across the country using her Beyond Personal Finance curriculum.
Charla’s passion is teaching teens that their choices matter. She is a firm believer that in order to prepare teens for the road ahead they must be given the opportunity to practice making good (and not so good) choices using real dollars before they get out into the world and have real regrets.

We are living in the information age. What people miss though, is that it’s not the information that is valuable. What we, as parents and teachers, need to focus on is DISCOVERING.
TEACH shows you how to help your students become independently responsible learners. Once our students know how they can be independently responsible in how they learn, the whole world is available to them. Literally.
They become self-directed. They become inspired. They discover what is most important to them!
Each chapter will surprise you! You will be taught concepts where the student becomes the teacher, different approaches to grading work, how to best present yourself, learning to think independently, and how to relate your schoolwork to doing what you love to do.
Parents & teachers will discover how to empower, encourage & acknowledge their students’ education as the pathway to developing independently responsible learners.
Students will discover that they can be responsible for their education and see that embodying knowledge is where the real power lies.
After reading this book, you will discover UNDERSTANDING, LEARNING, and KNOWING in a whole new way. You will realize, that by understanding how to learn, you really can create, do, or become anything you want while discovering who you are!
This book turns the word TEACH, upside down and creates a whole new paradigm.

The Wild Brothers, Morgan, Hudson, Kian, and Asher Wild grew up overseas as tribal missionaries and now run Wild Brothers Productions. They were able to pursue their dream while pursuing missionary work in Indonesia because of homeschool programs. On this episode, The Wild Brothers share their experience of homeschooling and their amazing work as a family.
Listen as the boys all share their social and educational experience of growing up attending homeschool while making friends and building their lives in the jungle.
They credit their parents for being great teachers. Their father was a biology teacher and their mother made sure they were not falling behind with normal subjects like math, science, and geography. But after their schooling, homeschool allowed them to make friends and connect more with like-minded people. They even had a beetle named after them in Indonesia!
“Having lived in different cultures made us culturally observant. Growing up as homeschoolers allowed us to interact with a much wider peer range. All of the brothers are of different ages and, in the community, we were always interacting with others. I felt like homeschooling allowed us to connect with a diverse age range and we learned how to relate with people from all different backgrounds."
They share tips and ideas on how other homeschoolers can create a better social life and stay more connected as a family.

If you are a parent who wants better for your child’s education, or if you’re already homeschooling and especially if you work in homeschool organizations.

Our programs develop lifelong self-mastery skills with ongoing guidance from our support and staff team.
