Today's guest is Jacob Campbell, the son of Legendary Surfcraft designer Malcom Campbell. Malcom and his brother Duncan, together created the "BONZER" surfboard in the 70's. It was a revolutionary surf design that first used the use of side fins adding to the single fin thus creating the first 3 fin system. This unique design was the first of its kind progressing the sport forward in more ways than one. The speed that the Campbell Brothers were experiencing on the BONZER could not be denied. This design changed surfing forever! Malcom had a son named Jacob. Jacob grew up in a very creative household. Lots of music played in the house, and it sunk into Jacobs brain. Jacob grew up absorbing all types of groovy vibes and eventually started searching out rare hard to find obscure cuts. He would go on to make mixes for friends and family. These music mixes were good with deep cuts. If you are a fan of new music, than Jacob is a lovely fellow to know. With the help of the Internet, Jacob was able find and share music like never before. He took advantage of that and theres a deep love there, and the love continues to grow, and he shares the love and he shares the stoke. His passion for music turned into a Podcast and then a regular radio gig on terrestrial radio Central Coast Radio "97./107.9" " The Rock" (Morro Bay) Jacob Campbell now lives in Oahu, Hawaii. He lived and worked in and around Haleiwa and worked at his uncles Famous surf shack "Cafe Haleiwa" It is there where Jacob met his wife and started a little family on the hill. He now shapes under the family name and is the representative for "Campbell Brothers Hawaii". He broadcasts live from his home studio for his radio show in California. He continues to share music, live the stoke and love the BEEFHEART! Jacob has been my number one way I find amazing new music and has been 90% of the cuts I use for this Podcast. I love the instrumentals, the weird stuff and the groovy spaced out and beyond. Its all there. It was a absolute treat to talk with one of my biggest inspirations. please enjoy my conversation with the great MR. JACOB CAMPBELL Cheers!

Todays guest is Cheyne Magnusson. Cheyne was a Pro Surfer that grew up in Hawaii on the island of Maui and has had his hands in just about everything surf related. Cheyne was an early adopter of progressive surfing and was one of the pioneers to go above the lip and explore aerial surfing. Which makes lots of sense because his father is Famous 80's Pro Vert Skater Tony Magnusson. So for Cheyne it was in his DNA. Even Cheyenes entrepreneur spirit might come from his roots as well. His dad started H-STREET SKATEBOARDS, the very first Skater owned skate company. H-Street was a company that oversaw the transition from 'Vert" skating to "Street" skating. H-Street's first sponsored skaters were Matt Hensley and Danny Way, two of the most influential skaters of all time. So progression is in Cheyne's blood, and the bloodlines run deep. When Cheyne was young his folks split and he went to Hawaii to live with his mom. Cheyne grew up on the island of Maui. It is here were he fostered a love for Surf and Seafood. Cheyne would eventually fall in love with spearfishing and fall in love with cooking, thus creating a special "Poke" recipe that he would prepare for his friends and family, especially after a long day of playing in the surf and sun. Cheyne would eventually make his way back to Oceanside, where he would become one of the wizards involved in the ever-changing wave pool space. With a chance encounter with a fellow surfer and fish lover, Cheyne met Chris Slowey. Chris "Slowey" specialized in creating spaces for enjoyment in the Bar and Restaurant industry. These two quickly came up with the idea of "SHOOTZ"! Shootz started as little "pop-ups" in and around local breweries in San Diego County, serving up Cheyne's "Famous" Poke Recipe. A Recipe he has spend years crafting. a Recipe he holds dear to his heart, don't try to steal it, or you might get speared. Cheyne is a charismatic guy the spews positivity, and it's no wonder everyone wants to work with him. He's the kind of guy that injects salt water in the most corporate of boardrooms. He keeps salt int the building. And on every project he works on he adds that crusty approach that only a surfer could appreciate. The wave pool game would come calling and Cheyne answered the call and he had to put "SHOOTZ" poke on ice! After some ups and downs in the Wave pool game, Cheyne found himself back in Oceanside. Once again Cheyenne would hook up with Christopher Slowey and they RE-Booted "SHOOTZ" 2.0! Bigger and stronger! SHOOTZ was re-Born! While Cheyne was away, Chris had been hard at work planning Brewies and creating spaces and opportunities. "Slowey" had found the perfect space. An old building with a series of old auto repair garages. Enough to house 9 small buissneses with a common areas. Blocks from the beach in an area with lots of potential. The new building was re-imagined and re-branded as "The Tremont Collective". Appropriate since it's on the corner of Wisconsin and Tremont, just south of the pier. The Tremont Collective houses 9 small businesses where you can shop, eat, drink and connect. 9 local businesses! Brixton lifestyle apparel, Communal Coffee, The Annex, Stab Magazine, Atacama Surf Shop, Bottlecraft and shop, Verve Spin Studios, Al Fresko (lifestyle and catering) and last but not least!!!!! SHOOTZ FISH X BEER!!!!!!! At last Chris's and Cheynes vision came to life! With the help from "Rock and Roll" chef Davin Waite! The SHOOTZ menu is off the charts and its changing daily. Shootz also offers their very own Japanese Lager to perfectly accompany the sophisticated palate of tasty fish. SHOOTZ could be described as flavors from Maui and Baja colliding. Line caught poke, off-the boat tacos and daily fish market specials. The grand opening was a huge success and its been lines out the door ever since. I parked my VW bus right in front of the "Tremont Collective" all day for the grand opening celebrations. The gathering was epic and everyone was eating and drinking! yewonline.com shootzfishxbeer.com

Todays guest is Tom Morey the inventor of the "Morey Boogie" Bodyboard. Tom is a creative surf designer, inventor and theorist from Southern California. Tom was born in Detroit in 1935. His family moved to Laguna Beach when he was 9 and he started surfing Main Beach on a "Surf Matt". He then moved to Santa Monica and began doing "stand-up surfing" at Malibu Point. In 1958 he received a BA in Mathematics from USC and became an engineer for Douglas Aircraft. In 1969 he quit Douglas to start "Morey Surfboards". One year later he formed "Morey-Pope Surfboards" with San Diego Surf designer Karl Pope. Morey and Pope created innovative board designs such as the "Trisect" ... a travel ready, three piece board that came with its own suitcase. Morey helped develop "Slipcheck" a surfboard traction aerosol spray-on used as an alternative to surfboard wax. He invented the W.A.V.E. set, the first commercially successful removable fin system. In 1965 Tom created the "Tom Morey Invitational" Surfings first cash prize contest worth $1,500. It was a nose riding contest held in Ventura, an event that attracted all the hot surfers of the time like Mikey Munoz and Mike Hynson. Morey pushed articles for Surfer Magazine on a wide range of topics including surf contests, wave formation, riding techniques, health and artificial surf (wave pools). In a Surfer magazine article from 1971 Tom proclaimed "I am Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Alexander Gram Bell and Bob Simmons". Morey gave new life to prone surfing in 1973 by marketing his 2 year old invention called the "Morey Boggie" a 4 foot ,soft bellyboard made mostly out of closed-cell polyethylene packing foam. Easier, cheper and safer to ride than surfboards, "Boggie Boards" soon became very popular with the kids and the tourists. 80,000 units were shipped in 1977 just before Morey sold the "Boggie" to American Toy Giant "KRANSCO". Sale more than quadrupled by the end of the decade and the "Boggie Boards" were soon available in thousands of coastal grocery stores and surf shops. By the early 80's Bodyboarding had its own identity separate from surfing. Bodyboarding is described as the most popular form of surfing, as bodyboards outsell surfboards by huge margins. "Bellyboarding" is the original form of "Bodysurfing" dating back hundreds if not thousands of years, it was all but not dead in the 60's. Stand-up surfing was the most popular way to ride a wave back then with knee boarding a distant second. The "Bodyboard", as all Boggie type craft would soon be called was more than just a wave tool. According to Tom "For anybody to be a graduate of this planet" Morey said "it is essential for them to learn this activity". Millions of Boggies and Boggie knock offs were in the water in the mid 80's. Earlier Tom and Mike Doyle co developed "Morey-Doyle" soft top surfboards. Tom has been in many surf movies and documentaries such as "Golden Breed", "Blazing Longboards", "The Liquid Stage", and "Endless Summer 2". Tom was listed by Surfer magazine as one of the most influential surfers of the century.

Todays guest is Scott Bass the "Podfather" of surf talk. Scott is a 50 year old male that drinks oolong tea and plays pickle ball, but don't hold that against him. He's a frothed out surf grom at heart. He helped coin the phrase "Yeah Guy"!!! And he'll be the first to admit it, that "surfers are the worst". With a chance meeting with "Surfer" Magazine editor Steve Hawk on a Mexico surf trip he got the opportunity to work for Surfer as the "Online Editorial" Director for 10 years. Scott and Surfer Magazine both weathered the storm in this new digital landscape. While working at Surfer Magazine Scott would developed an idea for a "Surf Talk Show". It was clunky back then but Scott would have a panel of revolving guests on his Internet radio surf talk show. These guests...mostly Chris Mauro, James Pribram and Jeff "Baldy" Baldwin. The Surfer Magazine gig would eventually fizzle out and Scott Bass and "Baldy" took their show to terrestrial radio...a "Sports" station of all places, where they rebranded the name of the show to "Down the Line Surf Talk Radio" with a focus on San Diego Surf with Report "Call-ins" and revolving "Drop-ins" from the Surf Community. The Show was high energy with a clash of personalities and a pattern of Scott constantly interrupting his guests but especially His Co-Host "Baldy". Scott held the Torch for "Surf Talk" Radio for decades...keeping it alive with his stoke and passion. Radio would run its course and "Bassy" and "Baldy" would part ways. David Scales, an emerging surf media talent was in another county looking for a knowledgeable surf personality to help him Co-Host a "Surf News" Style show for his "up and coming" Surf media juggernaut called the "Surf Spledor Network". Scott and David would eventually hook up and start recording "Surf Talk". The two has amazing chemistry and what they had together. Together they would go on to Co-Create the surf podcast know as SPIT, a surf news show where there cover everything under the sun. One of the best Surf Podcasts of all time! All the while that was going on in Scott Bass's life there was something else going on behind the scenes...Scott hustles surfboards. Him and his wife would turn it into a business, a surfboard trade show called "Sacred Craft" a yearly event honoring the true craftsmen of the surfboard making industry...the backbone, the guys covered in dust stinking like resin in the back allies. And where better to do it then the County that makes more surfboards than any other place in the world....San Diego Baby! Anyways...The "Sacred Craft" Surfboard gathering would grow and become the premier Southern California surf Festival.......with the popularity of the growing event, Scott decided to rebrand the event name to "THE BOARDROOM SHOW" a gathering of the surfboard making industry under one roof. Bringing together legends, shapers, craftsmen, designers, artisans, lovers of music, friends and all things surf. And he's doing it once again..BIGGER and BETTER than ever!! Join us this September 25th and 26th as Scott Bass brings you "THE BOARDROOM SHOW" at the Del Mar FAIRGROUNDS in San Diego California. Till then...here is my conversation with the great...SCOTT BASS!!! YEAH GUY!
Todays guest is the "Post Heat Guru" none other than the "Surf Coach of the Stars"... Yes!!!! Im talking about Stace Galbraith! The Core-st of the surf nerds, a Podcaster, a student of the game.. like no other, he specializes in heat strategies and preparation.. and he grew up around some of the biggest names in surf. Names like Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Paul Fisher, Mitch Crews and Jack Freestone. Stace got his start doing mach heats with his friends and volunteering at the local surf contests to judge heats. Its plane and simple....Stace is absolutely surf crazed and he know his shit. Working with todays top athletes, stace has been on a slow burn to the main stage...where we saw a fresh faced Stace, doing sideline "Post Heat" interviews for the 4 stops of the Australian leg of the World Tour. Stace caught his stride and was a delight on the broadcast plus he really got the surfers to open up with his detailed and in depth questions. Staces Face may be new to the WSL broadcast, but if your a Surf Podcast fan, you already know that silky smooth voice of his. Him and fellow surf addicted maniac, Michael Ciaramella. are two surf nuts that do a Podcast for STAB Mag called CUSP. These guys go deep and they fallow the World Tour of Surfing closely and discuss all the nuance the tour has to over...plus everything else surf related that comes their way....I highly recommend it! We checked in with Stace all the way over there to Australia, the Gold Coast to be exact. It was a great chat, or as he calls it.. a "Chin Wag". We got to know Stace a bit more and got some backstory. This guy lives, breathes and eats surfing! He's a consumer! And about as Australian as it gets...I even quizzed him with my new segment of the show called...."DO YOU SPEAK AUSTRALIAN" where I quiz native Australians with their own "Witty" Slang and Phrases to see how well they know their own species. Plus we have a bonus section... YEW Online Correspondent and Olympic Anonnouncer of the stars...Mr. CHRIS COTE....... A true professional of All action sports... calls in to give us an update on the Olympic qualifying event that he was a part of in El Salvador...and give us insight on the event. This is was an action packed episode with 2 true professionals behind the microphone. Heres my conversation with Stace Galbraith and Chis Cote. Enjoy!

Today’s guest is Dana Brown. Dana is a film maker born and raised in Dana Point, California. The eldest son of legend, Bruce Brown from "The Endless Summer" surf movie Dynasty. Yes!... that Bruce Brown. The Endless Summer is hands-down the greatest surf movie ever made. It's the quintessential entry-level surf movie. The top movie in every surfers collection. The endless summer movies introduced to the world to Robert August and Mike Henson and the idea of surf travel to follow the surf and the sun. A movie that showed every side of surfing, A tool for people to see and learn some of surfings many nuances and document the rich characters in the surfing world. Dana grew up with the legendary Bruce Brown as a father, so naturally he drifted into the film world. Dana‘s father got him a camera at a young age and he quickly began making little movies. He would eventually go to film school. Then Dana‘s father came out of retirement to film "The Endless Summer 2. Bruce Brown would employ his eldest son to help him edit, write, produce and crew on such an assignment. It was then and there that Dana would learn the valuable tools of what it takes to make a film come together. Working alongside his father he would help create one of the most iconic surf films of all time. After working on the endless summer 2, Dana took that momentum to have a very successful film career. His next film was "Step into Liquid" with amazing aerial shots of Laird Hamilton playing with 20 foot "Jaws" barrels on his strap-in surfboard. Dana would go on to make many other films. These days Dana has released a new film. The movie is called "A life life of Endless Summer‘s", the Bruce Brown story. A documentary about a road trip Dana took his father on to visit his old famous surf and motorcycle friends. They visit elusive legendary characters like Gordon "Grubby" Clark and iconic salty old Pirates like legendary wetsuit Pioneer, Jack Oneil. Plus many many more. This movie is fantastic. I can’t recommend it enough, it’s a must watch for any surfer and even the regular Joe. It’s a quality story with a touching message. All of Dana‘s films are great but this one touches home. You can watch the documentary now "A life of endless Summer’s, the Bruce Brown story" is available now on Amazon Prime. I was delighted to catch up with Dana on the phone, to talk about his roots, his films and his latest project about his dad. Please enjoy my conversation with the great and talented Mr. Dana Brown! Hans is a ex-pro surfer,Model and world traveler and is also the executive director of the Mauli Ola Foundation that takes at risk kids dealing with degenerative diseases and takes them surfing. Hans Hagen, even the name is synonymous with Laguna Beach... just like names like Jeff Booth, Mike Parsons Chris Mouro, Sli Dawg and Frogger...the list goes on and on, Hans is Laguna Beach. When I was growing up in Laguna in the 90s, Hans would come and go from town and return with tails of surf safari adventure. Hans was a bit of a legendary figure with a mystique, mysterious a lore… Surfing with power and grace, as German as they get… With a jaw line reminiscent of that of Andy Irons. Hans is Laguna Beach’s spiritual child of Surf. Opting out of the competitive career to chase wild ocean discovery funded by a side hustle modeling career. Today’s guest is Keanu Asing. Keanu is a professional surfer born and raised on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Keanu grew up surfing and has a fighting spirit, growing up in a household influenced by martial arts. He comes from a Fighting family, so battling was was all too familiar to him as a child. At a young age Keanu started doing surf contests with the local kids. Kids like Carissa Moore and John John Florence. Eventually these contests begin to evolve and so did Keanu's surfing. He showed much promise at a young age, gaining sponsorship and support to send him around the globe to compete more. After a super successful junior career Keanu eventually found himself on the main stage, the championship tour of surfing. There he was competing with the worlds best, going around the world on the dream tour, the best surfers in the best waves. Keanu was living his childhood dream, traveling the world, a professional surfer, representing the people of the island state of Hawaii. With all the crazy ups and downs, Keanu battled with consistency of results, eventually he re-qualified for a second year on tour. On his second year on tour he achieved one of the hardest things a professional surfer could ever do on tour… Win an event. Yes. He won an event, but not just won, dominated! Taking down the world number and world number two in the process, Gabriel Medina and John John Florence. Keanu won the Quicksilver Pro France in 2016. Keanu Asing's slogan is "heart over height". He’s not the biggest guy, but he has a heart of a lion and the courage of a tiger, he’s a fighter, he’s a scrapper, a pitbull that will hang onto your neck until it’s over. And that’s just what he did in France in 2016. His back hand attack proved lethal in the beach breaks of Hossegor France. This event Win was an all time career high for Keanu. But with professional surfing comes drama, surfers have to roll with the punches, the highest of the highs and the lowest of the Lows. At the end of his second year on tour, Keanu was unable to re qualify and fell off the championship tour. It was hard, but be Keanu is tough and is realistic, with with his feet planted firmly on the ground. With Keanu's faith, Determination and his talent, I have no doubt we will see him back on the championship tour. These days Keanu has been surfing and getting good results on the qualifying series. Covid has put a pause on most professional events but Keanu has been laying low in his home in San Clemente, taking it easy since the pandemic. Keanu has been surfing and training and hanging out with his wife. Using this time to reconnect with love ones and surf lowers on the regular. Keanu is one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met, and is a true pro behind the Mic. He met up with me down at the beach in San Clemente called Linda Lane. It was a real honor to sit down and talk with him about life,Surf,Hawaii and the 2016 Quicksilver Pro France. Please enjoy my conversation with the great Keanu Asing.
Today's guest is Donald Brink. Today’s guest is Donald Brink. Donny is a surfboard shaper in San Clemente, originally from South Africa. Donny has made a name for himself in the surfboard market specializing in Asymmetrical design. Donald is a true artist in every way, he is a deep thinker, an analyst, a nerd in the details of discovery. Donny is many things... a painter, a drummer, a journey man, A carpenter, he works well with his hands. He makes surfboards and some of the most highly evolved and absolutely gorgeous designs and aesthetic shapes pleasing to look at. Which is exactly why his customers keep coming back with froth and stoke. Donald Brink has been on the surf scene for a long time now… He is also an ambassador for Vissla. Catch him in the shaping shack from an old converted mobile home down at Salt Creek Beach for their annual cosmic creek surf event. Donny's work speaks for itself. I had discovered Donald Brink years ago through his podcast “Swell with my Soul”, an in-depth listen to Donny’s stream of consciousness as he breaks down surfings little nuances, designs and anything else surf/shape related. It’s a Surfers \Surfers Podcast that can be found on the "Surf Splendor Network. I ran into Donny one day at Trail 1, I gave him a complement about his podcast and he invited me over to his van to talk Surf and he showed me some of his new fins he was working on. It was like the wizard was giving me a peek into the castle, I was stoked to talk surf with the legendary shaper. To describe Donald Brink and his work… I grabbed this snippet from the Vissla website: "Donald Brink makes unique handmade surfboards that are essentially simple in design yet obscure in their appearance. Every shape is laden with attention to detail to the functional elements in those creative boards Donald shapes. The boards are an extension of one’s feet and built accordingly to the surfers stance. Designed to surf both left and right, applying changes necessary to the way one stands, his asymmetric concepts promote a more free and forgiving flavor according to the limitations of the foot, ankle, pivot and weight distributions in a surfers ride. His fascination for surfboards and passion for design is contagious, creating a welcome invitation towards the innovative craft he builds. It’s an entire hands-on process that is simple and real, which keeps the beauty of design and craftsmanship his way of life! Boom! Please enjoy my conversation with the talented Donald Brink. Todays episode is all about Palm Springs. This beautiful desert oasis is just 2 hours east of the Southern California Golden Coast. These days you can catch Corey styling out on the waves, dazzling down the line on all types of surf craft. He's especially sick on the longboard. Corey is a sweet young man who has tones of talents. Catch him on Instagram as "Kookapinto" and check his cool clips and lovely mellow guitar. Corey surfs Sano a lot and his clips reflect that...he's also a man of God. Corey is part of a huge group of family and friends that all hang out and surf and play volley ball on the regular down at Old Mans. Kookapinto also surfs for Album Surfboard and is constantly trying out new, fun and exciting surf craft. I was super stoked to meet up with Corey down at San on a beautiful packed sunny beach day. We had a great little chat about surf and other stuff and he even played us a little guitar and sang. Ladies and gentlemen it is my honor to bring you the great and talented Mr. Corey Colapinto

Todays guest is Laguna Beach's very own Jeff Booth. Boothy is an ex-pro surfer from the ASP World Tour. Boothy was one of surfings biggest stars as the world tour shifted into more quality waves in epic locations (this was coined the "dream tour"). Boothy started surfing at age 8 and soon began competing in the NSSA. Jeff would soon become a very young rising star. He finished 2nd place at the world amateur surfing championships in 1984. Jeff would go on to finish again in second place in the Mens division in 1986. Then in 1988 he joined the ASP World Tour earning the title of "Rookie of the Year". He was on the Quicksliver surf team with surf legends Kelly Slater and Tom Carroll. He lived a low profile and earned the title of hard charging, rail surfing traditionalist. While he was on the tour he maintained his rankings in the TOP 10. While on tour, Booth was no stranger to controversy and ego-centric surfers. He once wrote a very controversial letter to Surfer Magazine and punched a Hawaiian surfer in the face during a heat at the 1994 Pipe Masters. When it comes to surf-core, there is no one more salty than Boothy. Booth would leave the tour ranked #4 in the world in 1995 at the age of 28...bowing out gracefully and becoming a Sales Manager for Oakley and Quicksilver. Booth was in iconic surf movies such as "The Endless Summer 2." He now lives with his wife and kids tucked in the hills of Bluebird Canyon. We caught up with Boothy to see how his quarantine was going in Laguna Beach. Spoiler ALERT We caught up with him post-surf strike mission to the Palm Springs Surf Club. Please enjoy my conversation with the legendary goofy foot power surfer from Laguna Beach, California .......Mr.Jeff Booth.
Sly Dawg aka Steven Chew is a born and bread Surf Core human from Laguna Beach California. Sly is one of the coolest characters around and it was an honor to have him back on the Show. Growing up in Laguna Beach, Sly has always been a surf legend. Being sponsored at a young age and catching the surf bug when he was young allowed him to travel the world and go to secluded surf spots. This was way before the Internet and all we had was a few photos and epic tales of Surf Safari Adventure to be shared by firelight. Sly had been a nomadic Surf gypsy for decades now...Bringing to fruition the article written about him and his friend "Frogger" called "The Dharma Bums" by Surfer Magazine editor and Laguna Beach local Chris Mauro. In this article Mauro paints a picture of Sly and Froggers life as elite boat captains of then private and very secret island called Tavarua, off the coast of Fiji. Sly has lived a life of Surf, Travel and adventure. But through all of it he has still maintained the lovable, super sonic, wacky, unique surfy style that we all love about him. Sly is always involved with the community....weather he's planning a surf contest with the local Surf Shop (LS&S) or running his fabulous Wacky insanely popular Surf Camps....Sly keeps it light and fun. I checked in with Sly in the beginning of the Pandemic to see how he was adjusting...we had a great conversation...but I somehow erased it. (it was bound to happen). :-( So we decide to do it again... and everything worked out. Times are crazy and all these beach closures are starting to take a toll. I checked in with Sly to see how his Quarantine was going...plus he had just moved into a beautiful new treehouse tucked back into the hill of Bluebird Canyon. Here is my conversation with the one and only.. SLY DAWG!
Todays guest is Chris Mauro. Chris is a Surfer, a writer, a Lover of life, and a Southern California Surf Industry Staple. Growing up in South Laguna he caught the Surfing Bug early. Being in Laguna he was part of a fast emerging new sport and counter culture...Surfing in the early eighties was more popular than ever and Chris was right there. After pursuing his love for professional surfing and surfing on the elite world dream tour, Chris shifted gears. Chris eventually became a surf writer, landing gigs for the iconic surf magazine "Surfer." At that time the internet was very young if that, and the surf magazine was the supreme content leader. Chris then became Editor and Chief of "Surfer" after his predecessors Steve Hawk and Sam George. Chris worked for "Surfer" for 10 wild years. During that time it was both fun and challenging. Chris would end up leaving the magazine and working for the WSL as the Vice President of Content Programming. After just under 3 years he left the WSL to pursue more interesting side projects, one of which is his fantastic podcast called "People Who Surf Show." It is a great podcast that I highly recommend. Chris has only done a handful of episodes but the ones he has done are well crafted, engaging, entertaining and informative. He is now ready to start season 2 of his "People who Surf" podcast. Chris uses his 30 years of surf knowledge to peel back the stories and give us another look into the past of surfings great history. I checked in on Chris to see how his quarantine was going. I enjoyed my conversation with Chris and I know you will to. Here is my conversation with the talented Mr. Chris Mauro....
Times are weird and things are strange. The Corona virus is among us and we have to adjust. We are being asked to "Shelter in Place" be "Socially Distant" and Self Quarantine. For a Surfer, that may be hard...Especially when the waves are good. As more and more of California gets shut down day by day...the lingering fear that they may shut down the beach is a realistic threat. Surfers have been asked to Quarantine all around our community. I was curious how other surfers are dealing with their quarantine. Today's guest is San Diego's very own Scott Bass. Scott Bass is the George Washington of Surf Podcasting. He has been doing Surf Podcasting for over 10 years, before that he had a surf radio show on terrestrial radio called "Down the Line Surf Talk Radio" on San Diego's Extra Sports 1360. On Sunday mornings he would do an hour show with his co-host Jeff Baldwin. Before that he worked for SURFER Magazine and is credited with helping them launch their own version of a Podcast...back ten called Internet Radio. Scott is a born and bread San Diego native. He is a Surfer a well as a absolute frother. Scott can be categorized as a stereo typical surfer dude. Once you get past his "Yeah Guy" Slogan... you'll find a deep diver, a great writer, a critical thinker, a funny man, a radio host and a core surfer. The list goes on and on...his contributions to the surfing world are so vast its hard to mention it all here. But, one thing is for sure...Scott is a true gem of the surfing galaxy. Here is my conversation with the great Mr. Scott Bass!

He is a father, a husband, a landscape architectural guru, a designer, an artist, a hot rod enthusiast, a skater, a mountain biker...the list goes on and on...he's active. And his 13 year old son, Tosh is right be hind him. Matt is in Quarantine at his home in San Juan but he will be fine because he has redesigned his house into a "Day Dream Quarantine". He's got a pool, a jacuzzi, a putting green, a skateboard mini ramp, an ceramic/art studio and a tree fort. Its safe to say Matt and his family will be comfy. With the kids now homeschooling and the stress of online classes is building...Matt is finding ways to stay calm. We checked in with "Johno" to see how his quarantine was going. We did a podcast/facetime interview where Josh was hanging out in his shaping bay and we talked about surf/life and being cooped up at home.
Todays guest is Terry Senate. Terry is a shaper in San Clemente California. Terry shapes surfboards for all walks of life and all skill levels. Terry is also the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Terry say's..."When I first started shaping boards...I never planned to make a career out of it. I just wanted to make boards for me and my friends." Terry has been shaping surfboards for over 40 years. These days his shop is thriving. Terry will invite you into the shaping bay for some surf conversation as people continuously come in and out of his little surf shop located in the heart of the San Clemente Surf Ghetto. Terry shapes all types of surfboards...from his popular fish to the trendy Mid-Lengths...to Classic Longboards to high performance shortboards. Terry started surfing at age 8 in 1964. At age 12 he shaped his first surfboard. He literally chopped down a tree to shape the first board himself. At age 20 he went to shape surfboards for Infinity Surfboards in Dana Point. Then Terry met Ben Aipa. Ben was one of Terrys Idols. And when they met, Ben would help Terry hone his skills. Terry started to get good and people began asking for Terry...a lot. S.O.N.G.S. is a Nuclear Power Plant. Sano is a surfing beach. San Onofre is a Southern California State Beach located in North San Diego on Camp Pendleton Military Base. Sano is one of the most iconic Longboarding breaks in the world. It's famous, not just for its gentel waves and aloha spirit but for it's lifestyle. Parking on the beach, old cars, the bonfires, bbq's, volleyball, surfing, and all types of surfing etc. To embrace the true essence of Sano is to long for yesteryear. It might be the last sacrid place on earth. It's special, and if you know, you know... the vibes down at Sano can be legendary. But, there is just one problem, there just one thing that really sucks about Sano. The San Onofre state beach shares its space with a Nuclear Power Plant. A Nuclear Power plant? A Nuclear power plant on my beach? Why is this thing at the beach? What is a power plant? What is Uranium 235? What are some of the dangers of burying nuclear spent fuel. I answer these questions and more on the latest episode of "Tales from the Cobblestones" Podcast.....Called S.O.N.G.S. (Nuclear Beach) Part 1
Todays guest is Jesse Miller. Jesse is a Artist, a Craftsman and a Jack of all trades. He is a product of his environment. His art got traction from a young age by being at the right place at the right time. The son of a surfer, he had been taken to the beach a lot in his youth..growing up surfing Sano and Blackies in Newport. With a chance opportunity he moved schools in high school to Newport Harbor. It was here that he would make connections and start doing art for all of the top brands in the surf industry. Jesse would go on to produce many logos for brands as a freelance artist. His art is unique and draws inspiration from nature an Psychedelic 60's poster art. Other than drawing...he's a master painter, Woodworker, Stained glass Aficionado which is reflective of his current work where he mixes all three. These days Jesse can be seen cruising down to Sano in his Guacamole Green VW Bus or at his annual Sawdust Festival booth in Laguna Beach. Jesse stays busy creating extraordinary art that is sometimes functional but always pleasing to the eye. I took my 1972 VW Bus down to Laguna Beach in to the Canyon and down to a street called Canyon Acres. We met up at his Rootsy Art/Surf shack in a tucked back Ferngully he calls home. Please enjoy my conversation with the talented Mr. Jesse Miller.
Todays guest is Tom Morey the inventor of the "Morey Boggie" Bodyboard.
Todays guest is Brooke Kelley, the creative director for Bevy and Brine. Brook is an artist and Bevy and Brine is her freelance art movement that she runs, specializing in murals, custom art, prints, clothes...the list goes on and on. Her work is also available on Etsy. Brookes whole approach to art is a breath of fresh air. Her art draws inspiration from all things vibrating with color and fun. She sees things in a way that makes her art come alive in a joyous, silly and functional way. I had the pleasure of working with Brooke at a stable job with benefits. Brooke felt in her heart that the job wasn't right. She trusted her gut and left the job... a move that guided her in believing there was something more out there... out there in the great unknown of being an independent professional artist. She took the leap, and these days she's staying true to her heart while having fun. She started doing murals and small signs for weddings...then making cool prints and getting them into all the hip local coffee shops in town, like the "Zebra House". She started doing all the street fairs and farmers markets. Hosting water color art parties using natural colors from fruits and vegtables ( something she had been doing since she was a little kid). She started playing with surfboard resin, photos and flowers. Her art knows no end. She just completed making these killer bucket hats... each one unique, colorful and groovy. Brooke draws inspiration from her childhood where she grew up by Ozark Lake in Missouri. Brooke has had lots of ups and downs and art has come in and out of her life. Brooke has always got a huge smile on her face and it was great to see that smile again. We met up at "The Point" at San Onofre Surfing Beach, under some epic afternoon cloud cover sunset light Razzmatazz! Please enjoy my conversation with the artistic creative director behind Bevy and Brine....Ms. Brooke Kelley. Music: Slow Roll - Tommy Guerrero Drop - Gala Drop Mustard Mustang - LA Qoolside
Today's guest is the star of Surfer Magazine's "Ultra Core Surf Hour" with Jon Wayne Freeman. Jon is a surfer, a father, a husband and a paramedic. Jon has just turned 40 and is blazing a new trail in life, foraging ahead in the vast unknown space, in an up and coming (Rebranded) genera known to the masses as "Surf Comedy". Yes, surfers have always had a sense of humor. They are natural joksters and pranksters...doing comedy skits as far back as the Endless Summer. Comedy has come a long way. The time before the Internet was a tuff place for an emerging artist with talent. You needed to be at the right place at the right time. You needed headshots, an agent and an agency to support your work. And thats all to get you 5 minutes on the "Tonight Show". Then came "Saturday Night Live"! This was a new emerging platform for Comedians and Sketch Groups to perform. With the success of "SNL", comedy clubs opened up all over the United States giving talented artists more outlets and a place to hone their craft. These day's...Its much easier than that. The sky is the limit and the "Gate Keepers" are gone. With the power of the Internet, The Phone and Instagram, an emerging and talented artist can put in the work them selves, and distribute the work them selves...to the masses....and in Jon's own word's "Let the people decide". And the people have decided! They absolutely love Jonathan and want more! They, we, us...cant get enough! It seems Jon has hit the nail on the head. Jon is a 40 year old surfer dad trying to balance his addiction for surf and everything else that comes with being a frothing father. He has seamlessly merged surf and comedy in a way that strikes a cord with the surf community. Weather he's bragging about being a North San Diego "Mid- Length-er" or being hassled by his ripping surfer wife...Jon always keeps it light and fun. For silly giggles though out the day, you must fallow Jonathan Wayne Freeman on Instagram. We Met up in the parking lot in Oceanside Harbor on a glorious Southern California beach day. Please join me for my conversation with the very funny and talented...Mr. Jon Wayne Freeman.
Today we take "Sandy" for a little drive. Sandy is my 1972 Volkswagen Bus that I use for the Local camping, Beach day's and interviews for the Podcast. We take a short drive down the street to Doheny State park. I found a oceanfront parking spot just in time for a dramatic Southern California sunset. Thats when my guest arrived. Todays guest is my friend Eddie Bean. Eddie is the founder and creator of KUNG FU TONIC! What is KUNG FU TONIC? In Eddie's own words "its basically a super immune booster, that can also be used culinary wise in the kitchen. So if you need to add a little flavor for something, you can do that. But if you need to knock out some funk, a cold, the flu or anything like that, you can definitely use it for food medicine as well. Its 100% Raw, vegan and awesome. Eddie and I have been friends since high school. We used to skate together and he was the first person to ever show me how to put ranch on my pizza (a pivotal moment in everyones life).
