There's a lot of talk today about needing to set boundaries in our lives, including how doing so (or not doing so) impacts our hormones. But what does that really mean? I find when I ask people what boundaries they have, or feel like they need to set in their lives, they don't have an answer. Which is why I had this discussion with Lesley King, who helps people find a new career in a year. She shares actionable ways to figure out next steps in your life (and these are easily applied to health & hormones too), including:-Understanding your patterns so you know how to change them-Learning what boundaries are - aka "giving people an idea of what you want and what you don't want"-Getting clear on what you want in a situation or in relationships-How important it is to celebrate your wins, even when you don't achieve the exact goal you set out to do-Creating safety by setting up "rules"Lesley King works with people who feel stuck and confused about what’s next. They don’t just want any job. They want an ideal career aligned with their values and desired lifestyle. She helps them find a new career in a year. Learn more at https://lesleykingempower.com.

There are lots of new products flooding the market to help women in perimenopause and menopause, especially bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.
But not all products are created the same. Unfortunately, many products on the market are full of ingredients that ultimately aren't good for our hormones because of the additives they contain. And when they are topical, this can be a major issue because as you'll learn today, our skin is our biggest organ!

You'll learn all about how these products can support you through the journey of both perimenopause and menopause.
We also cover:
-How perimenopause can arrive way earlier than you expect (and what to look for)
-Why you may need BHRT earlier than you think
-The importance of getting BHRT that is clean without tons of additives and preservatives
-How transdermal application can be superior to other forms of BHRT
-And much more!

Have you ever heard of Qigong? To put it simply, Qigong is a broad term that encompasses various styles and lineages of breath, visualization, and movement practices.
One of the key benefits of practicing Qigong is its ability to improve physical health and well-being. Research has shown that Qigong can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, improve balance and coordination, and even boost the immune system.
Today, I am bringing on my dear friend Vicki Dello Joio to talk more about Qigong and her work in energy and trauma and how it affects the body. I met Vicki many years ago when I took her class as part of my Holistic Health Education masters program.
Her class was a turning point for me, as it solidified my interest in energy work and its connection to overall health and wellness. I knew then that I wanted to pursue this field further.
In the episode, we cover:
✨The basics of Qigong and how Vicki got into this practice.
✨The power of connecting to your body and mind.
✨How the feminine can rise within her power.
✨The importance of self-defense for women.
✨And much more on energy work and movement!
Vicki’s work in energy and trauma is incredibly important and often overlooked when it comes to hormones and health, I am so excited to have her here today to share her knowledge with all of you.
Vicki Dello Joio is a life-changing workshop leader, Qi (energy) master teacher and inspirational speaker. Since 1975, her brand of brilliance has empowered wellness-motivated and spiritually-inclined seekers to infuse body-mind-spirit practices into their very cells so they can tap into their birthright of joy — use it as a fuel not a goal — for a lifetime.
In addition, Vicki has drawn from decades of theater performance, directing experience along with her life-long study of martial arts to fire up visionary speakers to amplify their charisma and deliver their message with passion, presence, and power.
Her methods for both crafting stories AND her focus on the energy behind how they are told have touched and transformed hundreds of speakers to stand and deliver with joy, confidence, and ease.
Popular host of monthly program Qi Talks and a Hall of Fame-recognized teacher of the Chinese Art of Qigong by the Association of Women Martial Arts Instructors, Vicki’s “Spiritual Fitness” program and book, The Way of Joy, has transformed the lives of thousands of participants since 1975.

Did you know that stress ultimately comes from the brain?
Yet we rarely focus on the brain when it comes to the root cause of not only stress and nervous system dysregulation, but long-standing pain in the body.
And we’re not referring to talk therapy here. There are specific brain exercises we can do to help process old trauma and rewire the nervous system. And they are so cool!
I talk all about it with Alyssa Chang, a neuroscience health coach who specializes in helping people connect with their bodies’ unique needs.
Neuroscience health coaching involves delving deep into the inner workings of our nervous system, including how it governs our thoughts, behaviors, feelings, and movements. By taking a brain-based approach to understanding trauma and how it affects us, we can learn to trust ourselves and live a life designed around our intuition and inner guidance.
What we discuss:
✨What vision therapy is and experience Alyssa walking Christine through an exercise
✨Why massage therapy won’t get to the root of musculoskeletal pain, and how to get rid of the issue permanently
✨How pain impacts us from a cellular level
✨What vestibular training is, and how it can help with things like balance
Whether you’re interested in learning more about neuroscience health coaching or simply want to take a step towards greater self-awareness and connection with your body, we invite you to join us for this exciting conversation with Alyssa Chang.
Alyssa Chang is a neuroscience health coach for those seeking a scientific, compassionate, and whole human approach to health and healing, so you can learn how to live a life designed with listening and attuning to your body’s unique needs.
Neuroscience health coaching involves deeply understanding the inner-workings of the nervous system and its role in how it governs the way we think, behave, feel in our body and move through the world.
A brain based approach allows us to deeply understand the way trauma has shifted our ability to embody intuition, access safety and trust ourselves while also providing us a path forward to heal and thrive.

This week on Hormonally Speaking, we have Abby Epstein, the acclaimed American film director and producer best known for her work on the documentaries "The Business of Being Born" "Until the Violence Stops,” and “Weed The People.”
Epstein has won several awards for her documentaries, including the Audience Awards at Vancouver’s Amnesty International Film Festival and Nashville Film Festival, as well as premiering at Sundance, Tribeca, and SXSW festivals.
We discuss her and her business partner Ricki Lake's latest movie, “The Business of Birth Control”, which aims to shed light on the effects of hormonal contraceptives and the need for newer and better options. The documentary was inspired by the book "Sweetening the Pill" by Holly Grigg-Spall.
We Cover So Much Including:
✨How the film was not made to promote a specific ideology, despite what some people think
✨That it was difficult to find experts in the field who would speak out against the status quo (but they still found some amazing ones!)
✨The fact that modern medicine has often failed women, leading to poor menstrual health, low body literacy, and high rates of endometriosis, PCOS, fibroids, anxiety, and depression
✨Why there is a need to evolve and develop solutions regarding women's health and bodies, especially in terms of contraception and long-term effects of medications
✨And so much more good stuff!
Our conversation was powerful, and one you don’t want to miss, especially if you are currently on birth control, or have children that are.
You’ll also want to see the movie ASAP - especially since March 8 is International Women’s Day - which you can stream here. Use code “HORMONALLYSPEAKING” at check out to get half off.
ABBY EPSTEIN made her film directing debut at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival with the documentary, V-Day: Until the Violence Stops, featuring Jane Fonda, Salma Hayek, and Rosie Perez. The film won the Audience Award at Vancouver’s Amnesty International Film Festival and premiered on Lifetime Television, receiving both an Emmy and a Gracie Allen Award. In 2007, she teamed up with Ricki Lake for their widely acclaimed documentary, The Business of Being Born, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was released by New Line Cinema/Netflix and broadcast on Showtime. The film’s success led to their follow-up series, More Business of Being Born, featuring Cindy Crawford, Alanis Morissette, Gisele Bündchen and Christy Turlington plus a book, Your Best Birth, published by Hachette. Next, the duo teamed up for Weed the People, which premiered at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the Nashville Film Festival. Weed the People was acquired by Netflix for distribution.
Under their company, BOBB Films, Ms. Epstein and Ms. Lake produced the documentaries Breastmilk and The Mama Sherpas and are currently in production on The Business of Birth Control. Prior to her film work, Ms. Epstein directed Broadway theater, helming national tours and international productions of RENT and The Vagina Monologues.

Adult acne can be stressful both mentally and physically and is usually treated topically or with intense prescription drugs. But underlying issues such as gut health, hormones, and stress play a huge role in our skin health.
Today we are taking a deep dive into skin health with Emilia Papadopoullos, who uses her education in nutritional therapy and training with the Institute of Functional Medicine to help people with stubborn acne finally achieve clear skin and regain their confidence through diet and lifestyle changes.
What We Discuss:✨The connection between skin and hormones in the gut
✨What blood sugar has to do with skin health
✨Why it’s so important to eat (nearly) first thing in the morning
✨How PCOS affects the skin
✨Why women need to support their testosterone

Emilia Papadopoullos developed an interest in skin health from an early age as she developed chronic acne in her teens and was later diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Unable to clear her skin through medications and skincare, Emilia entered the world of nutrition, which finally helped her understand what her body needed to naturally rebalance her hormones and achieve clear skin.
Alongside her nutritional therapy qualifications, Emilia has done additional training with the Institute of Functional Medicine. She now successfully helps people with stubborn acne finally achieve clear skin and regain their confidence through diet & lifestyle changes.

Most of the health info about there tells us it’s super important to get good sleep between the hours of 10pm and 8am in order for long, healthy lives.
But what happens if your job is at night, and you have to sleep during the day? And what if you are surrounded by alcohol at that night job, which we know negatively impacts health outcomes over time?
On this episode, I talk to Danielle Sholly, who is a trained integrative nutritionist who also works as an exotic dancer. She has fine-tuned what it takes in order to not only stay healthy, but thrive, working nights at a non-traditional job.
We also talk about skin health, which is what guided Danielle on her health journey in the first place, and how she now has the healthiest skin of her life, even with working non-traditional hours.
What We Cover:✨How Danielle got into integrative nutrition for women
✨The steps to finding the root cause of skin and health issues and what to do about them
✨The importance of listening to your body’s feedback
✨How exotic dancing helped to make her feel more embodied and healthy
✨ And much more!
Danielle Sholly is a health and life coach moonlighting as an exotic dancer and is now bringing all her experience and wisdom to the dancer community on how to thrive in the industry and stay healthy while figuring out your next steps, so you can align with your true purpose.
Danielle moved to Asheville NC in 2012 and a year later landed my dream job working in an integrative health clinic. She got trained as a phlebotomist and did regular bloodwork on our patients. She was using my health coaching in the clinic and got to see the power of nutrition and lifestyle changes improving patient’s health.
During that time, Danielle also fell in love with pole dance when a friend of hers got certified to teach pole and wanted a practice student. Danielle learned her first tricks in her friends living room where she had a pole set up.
She trained in the S-Factor methodology, which focuses on sensuality and reclaiming your power as sexual being without shame.
Danielle began dancing professionally when she lost her job suddenly and was swamped with debt. She felt comfortable pole dancing at this point, so she thought, “Why not try it…YOLO?”
Her first night she only made $182, but that was already way more than she had ever made at her day job working $16/hr for 8 hours.
The first month she made $2700 only working 10 shifts… her mind was blown! The next month 3k, then 5k, then 6k!!! All while only working 25 hours a week.
Now, Danielle consistently hits over 10k per month and desires to show other dancers how to embody their most bada$$ selves, make more money, stay healthy and fit, and use their dancing career to fuel their true purpose.

Have you ever chased a story?
Do you have any idea what that means?
Well, if you don't already know, you are about to find out today.
Chasing a story is a revolutionary idea of throwing out the traditional storytelling technique of tying things up with a bow, where the audience takes in a lesson the storytelling is giving.
Instead, the story is worthy in-and-of-itself without a perfect ending, and the audience has a chance to "chase the story" by asking questions of the storyteller. And eek! This is what I'm going to be doing on Sep. 22nd at Bottle Riot in Asheville, NC.
In today's episode I talk with creator Tracy Hopkins, who founded Chase The Story Revolution, and things get vulnerable real quickly as we discuss her experience finding her own story.
We also cover:
-How each us of have a story, and how sharing that story can cannot us, instead of separate us
-How stressing out about falling into old stories or patterns in our lives can make things worse for our health as compared to acceptance
-The way that our stories become even more important as we find ourselves heading into perimenopause and menopause
-What the Chase The Story Revolution looks like, and how to be a part of it!

Indoor mold is unfortunately a common problem that contributes to allergies, asthma, brain fog, and moodiness. But did you know it can also impact your hormones?
When indoor mold is toxic (there are about 13 toxic species), it impacts the cells, brain, and body systems in a myriad of ways. Mold releases something called mycotoxins in the body, which causes many of the debilitating symptoms people are dealing with.
Functional Health Coach and Detox expert Bridgit Danner joins me in this episode to help break down exactly what is happening when mold gets inside your body, and what to do about it.
Some of the topics we discuss include: ✨How that breakthrough bleeding, thyroid autoimmunity, or even weight gain can be an indication of a mold issue
✨How mold directly impacts the hypothalamus and pituitary glands, which are the epi-center of our sex, adrenal, and thyroid hormones
✨What signs to look for in your house when you suspect mold
✨Following what your body tells you, even when it’s really scary (like dealing with a mold infestation!) can change your life for the better
We also talk about what supplements are most helpful when you are dealing with mold and mycotoxins, as well as testing that Bridgit offers to help you get on track.
Bridgit Danner was working as an acupuncturist in Portland, Oregon when her health started to deteriorate. She learned a lot, tried a lot of things, and even completed a functional health coaching program in an effort to heal herself and become a better practitioner.
Although several things kind of helped, nothing helped completely, and she hit rock bottom in the winter of 2014. Soon after she discovered toxic mold in her 100-yr old home and began the long journey of home and body repair.
Bridgit got into the natural medicine field in 2000 as a young environmentalist. She practiced as an acupuncturist and integrative clinic owner for 13 years, performing well over 10,000 sessions, before transitioning to the online space as a functional health coach and educator.
Bridgit loves to teach about everyday detox, functional living, and toxic mold illness at her website. She is also the founder of a line of detox supplements called Functional Detox Products. Find her on IG at https://www.instagram.com/bridgit.danner/.

Welcome to the first episode of season 4 of Hormonally Speaking!
We are kicking off this season with a fabulous guest, Dr. Tabatha Barber, who is triple board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, menopause, and functional medicine.
Dr. Barber is a dynamic practitioner and she shares her own experiences of what propels her to do the work she does, including:
-How she went from being a teenage mother to becoming a triple board-certified doctor, and how that paved the way for her to fight for women, their health, and hormonal balance.
-Finding her way to functional medicine after re-injuring herself barely six weeks after her back surgery, and her doctor telling her "back surgeries are like Lay's potato chips - you can't have just one."
-Explaining how birth control does not balance your hormones, but instead overrides your own hormones, causes leaky gut, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and can be a contributor to turning on autoimmune conditions.
-Breaking down how doctors don't intervene in health conditions until they are already full-blown diseases, as there aren't medications or surgeries available until it gets to that point.
-Why bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is safe and can be life-changing, and how they are different from HRT.
And so much more!
Dr. Barber is so inspirational as a forward-thinking doctor who understands how we truly heal from the ground up.
You'll leave this interview not only more knowledgeable about how the healthcare system works, but also with hope that more doctors will make the move to the functional side.
Dr. Tabatha Barber has devoted her life to giving women a voice and a choice when it comes to their health and well-being. As a young girl, she struggled with self-esteem and identity issues, dealt with peer-pressure, and survived the ridicule and stigma of becoming a teenage mother.
As she shared in her first published book titled, From White Trash to White Coat: The Birth of Catherine’s Purpose, those events led Tabatha to finding her purpose in life. With perseverance and grace, she was able to redirect her path in life and become a successful physician. Dr. Tabatha Barber is triple board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, menopause, and functional medicine.
She has the unique situation of being licensed to practice medicine in over half the country, so you now have the ability to work with a functional physician virtually.
She is the host of The Gutsy Gynecologist Show (formally the Functional Gynecologist Podcast); where she shares her wisdom and knowledge with women everywhere to reclaim their health. She is also a keynote speaker, mentor, wife, mom, and grandma!
By incorporating functional medicine into her women’s health practice, she is able to provide women with the tools they need to optimize their health and happiness, which, in turn, allows those women to pursue their purpose in life. Find out more at https://drtabatha.com.

Have you ever thought you might need metabolic restoration?
Or maybe you are wondering what metabolic restoration even is?
Well, some of us have unfortunately blown out our metabolism with the low-calorie diets we've tried over the years. And our body needs some TLC to bring it back into balance.
That's where Dr. Ashley Dwyer comes in. Dr. Dwyer, a former pharmacist, moved into holistic nutrition counseling and metabolic restoration after her personal frustration with how the medical system handled her health issues.
She has learned that health is all about bio-individuality, between what we eat, how we move our body, as well as having support from a community.
In today's episode we cover:
-What undereating and overexcising can do to the body
-Why intermittent fasting and HIIT aren't always the best options for women
-How to go about healing your metabolism
-The thing that is essential for better health
And much more!
Hope you enjoy listening in to our lively discussion about all things food and movement related.
Dr. Ashley Dwyer is CEO/founder of TeamBDN Coaching and a former pharmacist. After going through a slew of health issues due to lifestyle factors and stress, Ashley saw firsthand just how our current medical system was flawed. After 3 PCPs, 2 endocrinologists, and 3 functional medicine practitioners, she finally got the help she needed. Ashley decided to shift her life's work in this direction, focusing on holistic health coaching instead of handing out "bandaids" behind a counter. Ashley and her team specialize in holistic nutrition, macro tracking, metabolic restoration, individualized fitness plans, accountability, and community, helping women between the ages of 25-50 eat more and reach their health goals. It feels absolutely bonkers out there right now, for a lack of a better description.
I've been profoundly impacted - yet unsurprised - by the leaked Roe decision, Ukraine's pain, the Uvalde shooting, continued racism, the extreme temperatures in India on a global scale, while also being thrown around by rising prices, houselessness and housing crunches, and an alarming rise in health issues on a local level.
Of course, this is after years of unrest preceding these issues. I knew I needed a reset in my own thinking, because what we've been doing isn't working and it feels like we're sinking. It was time to talk about a path forward.
So I brought onto the podcast some good friends and smart as hell women, who are leading in their respective fields to bring the issues women are facing to the forefront.
They include Prosperity & Business Coach Jen Aly, Astrologer Diotima Mantineia, and Masculine Feminine Coach Sarah Poet to chat about the issues global and personal issues that so many women are facing right now, and what the path forward might look like.
We get into lots of juicy stuff, including:
-Sovereignty and boundaries
-The power of cycles in your daily, weekly, and monthly lives, particularly when it comes to harnessing energy
-The places we as women need to step up, and appreciating what women in recent history have done to get us here
-Recognizing internalized misogyny
-Climate change as the single biggest issue that will impact everyone on the planet
And lots more!
I'll tell you that I came out of this discussion energized for what is ahead. And I know you'll get some good, concrete steps from the discussion on how to focus and move forward in creating a better, more just world for all.

As women, most of us have experienced some form of PMS and we’ve all been told it’s normal from our doctors, commercials for drugs to help it, and society.
But the reality is that just because it's common, it doesn't mean it's normal.
And there's always root causes to PMS and it's bigger, badder sister, PMDD, as well as PCOS. In this week's episode, Dr. Pamela Smith,
Anti-Aging/Functional Medicine specialist and I cover all this and more:
-How testing helps determine what is causing PMS
-The major underlying causes of our hormone issues
-Multi-faceted approaches to PCOS, which has grown exponentially over the last 20 years
-How to heal from the ground-up, gain more energy, and improve fertility
-The importance of bioidentical hormones not only when it comes to anti-aging, but for our bone, heart, and brain health (for both women & men!)
Plus, Dr. Smith talks to me about her new book, "What You Must Know About Women's Hormones." You'll get to see the difference in size from the first edition to now; this book is chock full of the most recent studies on women's health is not to be missed!

Her new PBS/CNN special: How to Maximize Your Immune System is being aired this summer. You can contact her at her websites, Precision Medicine and Pamela Smith, MD.
In this week's episode, I go over my most recent blood labs to show you what patterns to look for in your own labs, so you can be more informed when going over results with your doctor.
From a functional standpoint, blood labs are a huge help in determining nutritional deficiencies before they turn into something worse. They also help to show early patterns of dysfunction in different systems like your gut, liver, kidneys, adrenals, and thyroid.
The more you understand about these kinds of labs, the more useful conversations you can have with your doctor, especially if you are dealing with symptoms.
Please note, I am not a doctor and am not diagnosing, treating, or recommending any type of treatment plan (even to myself!) and just as I recommend to you, I go over these results with my doctor.
This is also not a comprehensive overview of all the usual lab markers - I only brought in the ones on my own labs that fit a pattern of dysfunction.
Hope you learn something new!
What's attachment theory got to do with hormones? More than you might think.
If you haven't heard of attachment theory before, you're going to learn all about it in today's episode with Attachment Specialist Elizabeth Gillette.
Fresh off of releasing her new book, Attachment Theory Workbook for Couples, Elizabeth is sharing how our attachments, which are set when we are children, impact us in our daily lives and relationships.
When I first learned about attachment theory a few years ago, my mind was blown! It explained a whole lot about why I acted the way I acted - especially in my romantic relationships - and why I kept participating in the same patterns over and over again.
And the reality is, how we act (or react) in relationships majorly impacts our nervous system on a daily basis. If you've been here for a while, you know how nervous system deregulation is a huge underlying issue when it comes to our sex hormones estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and DHEA.
Elizabeth and I dive into all of this and more! And she explains the different attachment styles in such a great way that you'll know yours by the end of the episode.
Elizabeth Gillette, LCSW, is an attachment specialist. In her therapy and coaching practices, she supports her clients in developing secure ways of relating and improving their relationships by breaking old patterns and establishing healthy connections with integrity. Elizabeth is the author of Attachment Theory Workbook for Couples, a resource that offers a framework for understanding attachment theory and interactive exercises and tools individuals and couples can utilize to create expansive, spacious, and connected relationships. We talk Lyme, EBV, gut health, and so much more as underlying issues of so many chronic illnesses. We also cover:
*How the adrenals need to be supported to deal with any hormone issue
*The two biggest things that will help those with a Hashimotos' diagnosis (and a fantastic skin tip, to boot!)
What Dr. Wards believes links nearly all long Cvid cases

A lot of us might not think about the fact that our genes may be a part of our heavy periods or PMS, or fibroids or cysts.
Or maybe you do, and you are irritated with your parents for the genes they passed down to you!
But in reality, it's not as simple as what you got from your parents. AND there's a lot you can do when you understand things like gene mutations, how metabolism and detoxification works in the body, and learning how your dietary and lifestyle choices impact those things.
In other words, you have OPTIONS, once you know what is going on.
This is what I'm chatting about with Christina Sanders, a board-certified nurse practitioner and a nutritional therapy practitioner with 23 years of clinical experience. She and I dive deep into how your genes are impacting your health and hormones.
She breaks down the basics of how these systems work (I learned a TON!), and then we cover specific gene mutations like MTHFR and COMT mutations, which oversees estrogen and dopamine metabolism.
This is fascinating stuff, so buckle up!
Christina Sanders is a board-certified nurse practitioner and a nutritional therapy practitioner with 23 years of clinical experience. She received her first bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and attained her second bachelor’s degree and her master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. In American culture getting older is considered capital B-A-D.
Your looks fade, your worth diminishes (because it's so tied up in those looks...), you become cranky, everything starts to hurt...so the culture tells you.
But the truth is, perimenopause (and the menopause beyond it) can actually be the best time of your life.
In today's episode, perimenopause expert Rachel Hughes and I talk all about peri - the ups and downs, ways to support your body better, and how to shift that outlook. We also cover:
-Body changes - the better you take care of it, the more it will reward you (and it nudges you in that direction more and more)
-Knowing who you are, and letting the world know it
-Mindset and beliefs around peri
-Stepping into your second act, where you get to be as sexy as you wanna be
Grab a cup of tea for this lovely conversation that every woman should listen to, whether in perimenopause or headed in that direction at any point!
Rachel Hughes is a mid-life mother, wife, CNC and perimenopausal blogger.
She has a sincere heart to create safe spaces where peri- and menopausal women can help each other navigate these particular years together with honesty, thoughtfulness and a lot of laughter.
After finding that her own perimenopausal symptoms were disruptive to her life she sought out meaningful help and information and felt that there were not enough resources for mid-life women where they could learn from each other and express themselves with plenty of compassion and without judgement.

I get asked all the time what women should be doing daily to support their hormones. So I thought it was time to put together an episode that outlines the top five things I do everyday to support my hormone & overall health (plus a couple of bonuses!).
Beyond the basics of eating nutritious food, staying hydrated, movement, sleep, and stress reduction, our hormones need other specific support. I spill the beans, which includes:
-What I do to up my protein intake each day
-The best way to combat stress
-The thing that I keep to a minimum
-Specific nutrients I use based on hormone labs
-What's had the biggest impact on my sleep
Plus two bonus things that take hormone health to the next level!

You've probably heard that stress impacts your menstrual cycle. And it might have gone in one ear and out the other because well, you gotta get things done.
Problem is, if you are having issues with your period, your body hasn't been able to ignore the impact of stress. And those period issues are a direct result.
Today, I break down for you exactly how stress is impacting your reproductive system via cortisol's (our stress hormone) affect on hormones like FSH, LH, and estrogen and progesterone.
I also share with you not only the obvious ways you are stressed, but also the "stealth" stressors that you are probably missing, but they are having a HUGE impact on you, nonetheless.
And if you want to understand more about estrogen, progesterone, FSH, and LH and how they all work together to make your cycle happen each month, join me for my free webinar next Wednesday, Nov. 3rd at 12pm EST where I break it all down for you. You can grab your spot here.
Have you heard of the Carnivore Diet?
If you haven't, this dietary approach is all about eating just animal foods. Yep, no vegetables whatsoever.
And while that may sound like a prescription for heart disease based on conventional thinking, many people embarking on the Carnivore Diet are finding the opposite.
They are enjoying better health than they have in their lifetime.
On today's episode of Hormonally Speaking, I talk with Ede Fox, aka @blackcarnivore, who lost 80 pounds on first a keto - then transitioned to Carnivore - diet. She also reversed multiple autoimmune diseases once going full Carnivore.
Ede breaks down for us:
-The different "levels" of Carnivore
-Oxalates in vegetables and how they can be damaging to our health
-The importance of community and support when going on a Carnivore journey
-How this diet can be particularly beneficial for the Black community
-How going Carnivore can positively impact your hormones
This is a fascinating conversation, and I recommend going into it with an open mind if this is the first you've heard of Carnivore. You are guaranteed to learn a ton!
Ede Fox is a health coach and founder of the Black Carnivore community. Fox lost 80lbs, regained her health on a carnivore diet then turned to help others find the same success. She runs a carnivore coaching program, a growing facebook community, hosts a Podcast and a weekly livestream on Youtube. If you are interested in a strong supportive community of carnivores you’ll want to follow her on YouTube and Instagram to stay on top of all she’s doing.

What's the one thing that so many women are overlooking when trying to fix their hormones?
Environmental toxins.
Sadly, we have a plethora of chemicals in our environment, beauty products, and food that negatively impact both our hormones and overall health in a deep and profound way.
And because many of these chemicals have been deemed "safe," we miss the compound effect they are having inside of our bodies.
In the kick-off episode for our third season of Hormonally Speaking, I speak with environmental toxins expert and self-professed nerd Lara Adler, who breaks down a ton of scientific info for us, including:
-How the industry studies chemical toxicity, and how this isn't the best approach to determining the actual effects on our health
-Specifically how these chemicals impact our hormone receptors, as well as how they mimic our own hormones
-Where to look for the biggest offenders, and how to start clearing these chemicals out of your environment
This is a power-packed episode of information that will surprise you, and just might be the key to your hormonal dysregulation.
Lara Adler is a Certified Holistic Health Coach and self-educated Environmental Toxins Expert. She's been a featured speaker on over a dozen Summits, dozens of podcasts, and appeared in a 9-Part Documentary Film Series viewed by millions around the world. She is a member of the Naturopathic Association of Environmental Medicine and the American Holistic Health Association. She's attended lectures and symposiums presented by highly respected institutions like the New York Academy of Sciences, and the Mount Sinai Children’s Environmental Health Center and by many of the top names in Epigenetics, Hormone Disruption, and Environmental Health, on topics ranging from prenatal chemical exposures to environmental chemicals impact on the developing brain. She reads books on plastics, flame retardants, and water fluoridation for fun, and feels honored to share what I know with others, so they can make smarter, healthier choices. Do you change your skincare routine throughout the month? Probably not (I know I don't!).
But why not? It turns out our skin cycles too, based on our hormones (of course).
On today's episode, I'm talking with skin care specialist Rachel Kraus, founder of Dirty Peach Skin, about how our skin changes throughout our menstrual cycle. We dive into what types of products, ingredients, and practices are best depending on if you find yourself in your follicular, ovulatory, luteal, or menstrual phase.
We also talk about toxins found in much of skincare out there, and what you should be looking out for. Skin is our biggest organ, so it matters what we put on it!
If you have trouble with breakouts around your period, dry skin, sensitive skin (I had to get in a question about rosacea!), this is the revolutionary episode for you.
Rachel Kraus is the owner and founder of Dirty Peach Skin. An innovative skin care company that uses the power of clean products and cycle syncing to kick hormonal acne to the curb! We formulate products to be safe for women's hormones and fertility. And we believe in changing the beauty industry by making skincare more about women's health and less about beauty.
Rachel has been formulating products for close to a decade and recently found herself in the women's health industry after having multiple issues with hormonal acne and period problems! All of which was solved by her own products and cycle syncing! Find her at her website or on Instagram.
Been feeling hungover lately after only a glass of wine?
Notice that your energy is off the entire day after enjoying a cocktail?
Does sleep escape you when you include a beer with dinner?
These are all signs that alcohol may be working far more against you these days rather than helping to calm you down.
And it may be one of the biggest reasons your hormones are out of whack.
In this week's episode, I chat with Tēfa Hallock, who decided to quit drinking two years ago when she noticed how much it was impacting her energy and ability to focus on her daughter's needs.
Though not a big drinker before, Tēfa learned how much alcohol was influencing not only her energy, but also her emotional world. We dive into what this experience has taught her, the benefits physically as well as spiritually, and how she deals with social experiences now (yes, she still goes out!).
We also talk about the ways that her menstrual cycle changed after giving up alcohol, which is particularly important for women in their 40s as their hormonal landscape is shifting and the liver needs extra support. One study recorded increased levels of estrogen, testosterone, and luteinizing hormone (LH) after just one alcoholic drink.
Raw and authentic, this interview provides a window into recognizing when alcohol is impacting more than you think.
Tēfa Hallock's unique resume blends 25 years of environmental activism with decades of business leadership, project management, and sustainable local government work. Her interdisciplinary expertise is a valuable asset to elected officials, CEO's, and executive directors who must remedy complex environmental, operational, or financial issues.
Tēfa's ability to cultivate successful endeavors while staying true to core values makes her a welcomed member of many teams, especially those looking to make a real difference in the world. Find out more at her website, or drop her a message at her IG.
Fertility is a tough subject for many women these days, but it doesn’t have to be. In today’s interview, Dr. Cleopatra shares with us how you can not only easily get pregnant in your 20s, 30s, and 40s, but you can also have the superbaby of your dreams!
If you’ve struggled to get pregnant, take heart – Dr. Cleopatra will make you a believer because she’s helped so many women around the world to get there. Focused on what she calls the “primemester” – the 3 months before you fall pregnant – it’s all about using epigenetics and cutting-edge research to help you naturally conceive.
Dr. Cleopatra is The Fertility Strategist and Executive Director of The Fertility & Pregnancy Institute. She is a scientist and university professor who pioneered the field of fertility biohacking and creating superbabies. To date, Dr. Cleopatra has scientifically studied tens of thousands of women and families and has helped women in 19 countries on 6 continents have their superbabies. She has received nearly $3 million in grant funding from multiple arms of the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the National Institute on Standards Technology, and private foundations, including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Dr. Cleopatra has been cited in over 1,000 scientific studies in the past 5 years alone, and is a selected member of the Fulbright Specialists Roster. Dr. Cleopatra is the author of the forthcoming book detailing her revolutionary at-home conceiving system, the Primemester Protocol. Dr. Cleopatra teaches women to use the primemester—the magical and powerful window of opportunity before pregnancy when we literally have the power to change the quality and expression of the genes that we pass down to our babies and grandbabies—to create their superbabies.
Using the science-driven, big-hearted Primemester Protocol developed and refined by Dr. Cleopatra over the past 24 years, in combination with the cutting-edge process of Fertility Epigenetic Tailoring, The Fertility & Pregnancy Institute supports women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s to reverse reproductive aging; get pregnant quickly and easily; reduce miscarriage risk; and finally have the superbaby they have been dreaming of for as long as they can remember.
Dr. Cleopatra and her husband, Jaïr, have three superbabies who were conceived on the first try using the Primemester Protocol and born in March (all three of them!) right before Dr. Cleopatra’s 35th, 37th, and 40th birthdays.
In this interview from the 2020 Hormone Summit, I sit down with Dr. Beth Westie to chat about her revolutionary approach to balancing your hormones - eating for your cycle.
We basically have four different bodies throughout our cycle, and Dr. Beth explains the ins and outs of this, and which foods support those different bodies. She blends together cutting-edge research along with Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine for a whole-system approach.
This is a super-fun and inspiring interview, so I invite you to dig in and start applying some of her recommendations right away!
Dr. Beth is the author of the Best Selling book, The Female Fat Solution, the creator of the 12 Week Female Fat Solution Challenge, the Eat for Your Cycle Method, and the host of The Female Health Solution Podcast. She has made it her mission to change the way women view their health. Traveling the country to educate and empower women to take their health into their own hands, she uses nutrition to help women work with the natural cycle of their bodies to achieve lasting weight loss results. How much are your beliefs and mindset running the game in your body?
When we are dealing with hormonal issues and struggle with endometriosis or other inflammatory illnesses, a lot of us are busy looking for that magic supplement or dietary change. When in reality, we need to be looking for what Endometriosis Expert Melissa Turner calls an "environment of healing."
So many women deal with perfectionism - either naturally inclined to be that way, or because society pressures us to - and from this, stems an epidemic of hormone issues. Problem is, we often turn to the perfectionism when we are trying to deal with our hormonal imbalances.
In today's episode, Melissa and I talk about approaching health from a different viewpoint. This includes:
Cutting through beliefs like our body is a problem that needs to be fixed
Learning how to look at supporting your healing
How to go about making the best choices for your own body's needs, and recognizing your inherent ability to heal
Tools to help calm your nervous system, which is key to connecting to your body's needs
This episode is a must listen for every woman who deals with hormone concerns, as well as those facing endometrosis, fibroids, adenoymosis, and more.
Melissa Turner has become one of the leading experts on endometriosis and how to manage it holistically. This experience came out of her own journey in struggling for over 15 years with stage 4 endometriosis and finally living a normal, pain & symptom-free life. Her mission is to empower more women to manage endometriosis holistically so they can stop suffering and reach beyond endo! Find her at her website.
In today's episode, I pulled an interview from the 2020 Hormone Summit vault to look at how trauma impacts our health, with therapist Kambra Meyer. She and I talk about how trauma from our childhood and beyond can impact our health and hormones in the present day. Then we dive into a form of therapy called Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT), which can help safely process those traumas and clear the way for better health. Kambra explains exactly how and why this therapy is so effective at rooting out trauma from its source. Want to try AIT? Check out the video that Kambra and I talk about during the interview here. After you try it out, drop me a line and let me know how it went!
What is the number #1 issue I hear from clients?
CONSTIPATION.
It's pretty much an epidemic in western societies, for a number of reasons. And a lot of people still don't even realize they have it!
In today's episode, I talk with Functional Nutritionist and Hormone Expert Marieke Steen about what exactly constipation is, what the underlying causes are, and most importantly, how to get things moving.
She shares her own story of being constipated for most of her childhood and young adult years, and the steps she took to get out of the "stuckness."
It's a layered approach, looking at physical, emotional, and energetic aspects of digestion, but there's also a few things you can do to get things moving RIGHT AWAY. Marieke shares all of these options with you.
And besides your gut thanking you, your hormones will too!
Marieke Steen is a Functional Nutritionist and Hormone expert, helping women with fertility issues, hormonal, acne, or other hormonal imbalance or disorders. Her motto is: don’t accept feeling just ok, you deserve better! You can find her at mariekesteen.com.

and the blend is available at vibrant blue oils https://shop.vibrantblueoils.com/product/anti-inflammatory-essential-oil/
This week, I dive into the emotional/energetic/soul connection to your hormone (and gut) issues.
We can eat all the clean food, take all the great supplements, make all the lifestyle changes, but if we don't deal with our emotional landscape, our hormonal dysfunction will remain.
Whether you have fibroids, ovarian cysts, polyps, endometriosis, adenomyosis, PMDD or other issues, it's necessary to understand your way of processing emotions, pattern pitfalls, past traumas, and how you move through life. I share the approaches that have helped me the most, including:
-AIT and EFT
-The Enneagram
-Learning about - and how to - respect my body's boundaries
-And what it means to "love from the inside"
Plus I lead you through a short exercise to connect with your well of self-love.
Hopefully this episode will ground you even more deeply into your beautiful, complicated, powerful self!
Feel free to check out the IG post I talked about here.
What is the OAT test?
OAT stands for Organic Acid Test, and are compounds that show up in the urine that are byproducts of metabolism. Everything we eat, all the toxins we take in, all the supplements we take are metabolized through processes in the gut, liver, and kidneys so that what is no longer needed can be excreted via our sweat, urine, and stool.
What’s particularly useful about a test like this is that it can show levels of some of the baddest guys out there, including:
*Mold
*Yeast
*Strains of Clostridia, which are part of dysbiosis in the gut
*Oxalates
It also shows you:
*How well our detox mechanisms are working when it comes to glutathione and B vitamins
*Levels of neurotransmitters
*What your mitochondria are up to
So yes, it tells us a LOT.
What does this have to do with hormones? I cover this and more in the episode:
-Dysbiosis, inflammation and hormones: how they are all connected
-Markers on the OAT that show you how you are detoxing, which can help guide you on dealing with estrogen dominance
-How oxalates might be impacting you, and why that green smoothie might be the worst thing for your hormones
I also get real about some of the health issues I'm facing at the moment, and how the OAT results are helping me to deal with them.
It's a slam-packed episode! I recommend grabbing some tea and pen and paper to take some good notes, especially if you have already done an OAT. And if you want to see what the test looks like, as well as seeing the markers I'm referring to, head over to my Youtube channel.
In today's episode, Nicole Jardim, The Period Girl (and my biggest hormone mentor) breaks down exactly the way your thyroid is impacting your hormones - and how your hormones are impacting your thyroid. Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard about coaching. Life coaches, business coaches, career coaches...the list goes on.
But health coaching is something that is unique. It provides a space and support for moving through the sometimes tough changes we have to make to improve our overall health and well-being.
On today's episode, I talk with certified ADAPT Functional Health Coach Ken Kiser to breakdown exactly what health coaching is, and how he works with clients. We even jump into a "mini-session" with me in the hot seat.
As a functional nutritionist, I'm finding how helpful it is to offer coaches to some of my clients who need extra support. So while I sit down and assess their health history and utilize testing, creating nutritional protocols based off of these factors, Ken helps clients get to the heart of what may be impeding change.
If you know what health changes you need to make but are struggling with the "doing" part, a health coach may be just what you need to get you over the hump.
Listen to the end for a special offer from Ken!
Ken Kiser is a certified ADAPT Functional Health Coach that specializes in working with patients who suffer from digestive health issues. He supports gut healing through empowering clients to make diet and lifestyle changes that build health and vitality while minimizing flare ups. Although Ken is very well trained, his greatest asset is his own health journey. He too suffered from digestive health issues and was able to heal himself through diet and lifestyle change. It is through his own struggles that motivates Ken to help others. Find him at his website.
Do you experience brain fog, memory problems, and headaches that you just can’t get rid of no matter what you try?
What about numbness and tingling in your arms or legs?
Digestive issues not getting any better even after trying every change of diet, supplement, and lifestyle approach possible?
Then there may be something deeper at play. And that thing is mold.
I’m so excited to share this episode with you, because mold is an underlying health issue that isn’t getting the coverage that it deserves.
I dive deep with Functional Nutritionist Ellen Lovelace into one of her areas of expertise, mold toxicity. We talk about how mold gets into our bodies, the most common place where mold comes from, and signs and symptoms of this often debilitating illness.
I ask her about how mold impacts hormone health (yep, unfortunately it does), as well as other ways it shows up in our system (spoiler alert – it can get into our brain and also cross the placenta!).
She shares her own story of dealing with mold toxicity, and what it took to get her life back on track.
Though it’s not an easy road to get rid of mold toxicity, Ellen explains the best ways to test for mold both in your house and inside your body. She talks about some of the approaches to getting rid of mold, and the timeline you are looking at for the process.
In my opinion, this is required listening because it’s something that is being overlooked in much of the medical community. It may be the hidden key for what ails you.
What does fitness mean to you?
Is it pushing your body to the limit in order to make gains, or is it pushing yourself to get off the couch to do anything at all?
The truth is, neither of these options are the best for your overall health and well-being. And, there is a different way.
In today's episode, I chat with fitness specialist Jenni Hulburt about how to tap into your own body's cycle in order to move in a way that feels best to you.
We talk about how your body needs different movement depending on where you are in your menstrual cycle (and also, where you are in the cycle of the year, as well as your life). Jenni breaks down what types of movement are best during your follicular phase, and then what supports you best during your luteal phase, and finally, your period.
We also discuss how to use your intuition when you’re not motivated or consistent with moving your body. This is a big one for many women who just aren't inclined to move their body because of previous harm from fitness or society's pressures, as well as those who have never felt called to do much movement.
I love Jenni's spiritual and cyclical approach to movement, and I know you will too!
Jenni Hulburt is a fitness specialist teaching movement that’s part cyclical, seasonal, sweaty, and spiritual. She has a Bachelor of Science and Masters degree in Exercise Physiology and Sport Psychology. As a student of nature, and wellness advocate with doTERRA, she works with plant allies in the form of essential oils to teach others about the gifts of the earth for our well-being and our connection to life. Find out more at her website, or follow her on IG. Also check out her podcast, Wild Wellness.
In today's episode, I sit down with Chinese Medicine practitioner Ashley Kuper to talk about acupuncture, herbs, hormones, and everything in-between.
If you've never quite understood how acupuncture works, you'll totally get it by the end of this interview.
We also talk about what it means when practitioners look at your tongue, take your pulse, and assess your body in ways that are so different from the Western medical approach.
Best of all, we dive deep into how Chinese Medicine views hormonal imbalances and approaches to healing (including a fascinating explanation of the yin and the yang). We find spots where functional health and TCM intersect, as well as how they differ.
If you deal with:
-Fibroids
-PMS
-Endometriosis
then tune in to this episode to learn how TCM can help with these painful hormone issues.

Have you struggled to get pregnant, or experienced miscarriages?
Do you have a diagnosed (or suspected) underlying hormonal issue such as PCOS or endometriosis?
If any of that is part of your experience, today's inspiring episode is for you.
I'm talking to my friend and colleague, Ashley Looft, about her incredible journey towards a viable pregnancy after dealing with multiple miscarriages and hormone imbalances.
You are GUARANTEED to learn something new (at least I did!) about what you can do when nothing else works. Ashley covers:
1) The importance of "cleaning up your gut" when you are trying to get and stay pregnant
2) The need for bioidentical progesterone for much longer in a pregnancy than most doctors are going to admit if you've previously had miscarriages
3) The fascinating and scientifically-supported option available if you are at your wits-end, that you more-than-likely have never heard of before
Ashley bravely shares her experiences to help you find your way to carrying your dream baby to term.
Ashley Looft is a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner who helps women experiencing fertility and cycle struggles dig deep to find the root of their struggles and uses nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle to support their bodies in healing so that they can live their most healthy, happy, and fertile life. She came to this work through her own struggles with PCOS, Endometriosis, and 4 pregnancy losses.
Ashley was tired of going to the doctor and being told that her only options were the pill or to get pregnant so she decided to take matters into her own hands and apprenticed with Nicole Jardim to become a Women's Health Coach and then continued on to go to school for Nutritional Therapy. When Ashley is not working to help others she loves to spend time with her husband and two dogs traveling, reading, cooking, running, and hiking in the beautiful Arizona desert. It was a BIG year on many levels. In today's episode, Christine shares what her biggest realizations around health were this year, including getting to the deeper underlying issues that are at play for nearly every one of us.
If you want to think about what part of your health you'd like to focus on next in 2021, this episode is a great place to start!
Trigger warning There is a discussion about sexual assault.
This is a powerful episode about what we can accomplish as human beings.
I talk a lot about trauma on this podcast because it is something literally everyone of us has experienced, and it is something that plays a massive role in our health (and hormones!). On today's episode, I sat down with Yoga Practitioner Amber Kleid to talk about how she transformed sexual trauma into a deep reverence for her body and health by using yoga and meditation.
She continues to use these practices to manage Lupus to this day.
It may sound simple to use these practices (and probably something you've heard before), but it's more complex than that. It takes commitment, dedication, and support, and we dive into the hows and whys during our conversation.
Transformation is possible, and though we all have our own path of getting there, you'll learn some of the key parts that bring healing into your life.
Amber Kleid is a yoga practitioner who loves to help others find ways to feel good in their own bodies by movement, breath, fun exploration and lots of encouragement. In 2013 she was diagnosed with Lupus and needed to make some serious lifestyle changes. Instead of going to the gym she turned to a consistent yoga practice. You can find her at her website, as well as on Youtube, Facebook and Instagram for online classes and personal sessions. Don't forget to sign up for her amazing free Masterclass!
And if you're interested in learning more about my Get Your Hormones Right program, click here.
In this episode, Christine breaks down for you exactly how your liver impacts your hormones through everything from cholesterol production to estrogen detoxification.
You'll learn about Phase 1 and Phase 2 liver detox, nutrients necessary for each process, how blood sugar impacts the whole shebang, and the tie-in to your adrenal and gut health.
She also includes daily, monthly, and yearly practices from food to lifestyle that will get your liver humming along wonderfully.
Good liver function is ESSENTIAL to balancing your hormones, and may be the main thing you are missing when working on your hormone health.

Sexual pain, postpardum, perimenopause and menopause care, post-cancer survivorship.
These are all powerful areas that impact so many women's lives, and yet we don't have spaces of support in the medical industry or society at large.
Dr. Heather Quaile aims to change that.
Sexual health is an area that needs to opened up on multiple levels, from healthcare to legislation, and this is where Heather does her work. Viewing sexual pain from a bio/psycho/social approach, she believes in trauma-informed care that comes from a multitude of providers, including allopathic doctors and functional practitioners.
We talk about specific instances of pain, including in menopause and with vulvodynia, and how we need to take a multi-pronged approach is supporting healing.
We also chat about how important it is to educate girls on their bodies to change the whole paradigm, so that when they are women, they will experience less pain.
Learn about Heather's work in legislation around women's health happening in Georgia (which mirrors a lot of what is going on nationwide in the US), and well as educating about trans rights.
We also dive into the $150 billion sex trafficking industry, what Heather is doing to fight it, and how each of us can, too.
This interview covers SO MUCH of what is important in women's health today. It'll connect some major dots for you in your own sexual health journey.

Have you ever thought about money impacting your hormone health? After today's episode, you won't miss the connections ever again.
Money has a huge impact on our nervous system, as I discuss with Prosperity & Business Coach Jen Aly. Whether we are entrepreneurs, take care of the family finances, or don't want to look at money, it can cause physiological, emotional, and energetic stress that in turn affects our hormones.
As a creative, Jen knows all-too-well the pitfalls of not facing money head-on. She shares her story with us, and how she ended up becoming a money coach because of those experiences.
The energy of money is so integral to our overall well-being, and whether we choose to shun it or hold on too tight to it, it will show itself in our physical health.
Jen teaches us how to take a different approach, and how this cause major shifts in our overall well-being.
For creative and holistic entrepreneurs, Jen Aly is a bridge to the world of finance & business. She started her first of 7 businesses 15 years ago, has learned a lot the hard way, has filed bankruptcy, and has more than tripled her income within 3 years. In 2013 she bootstrapped an Asheville, NC based handmade jewelry business and grew it successfully. As a coach and facilitator, Jen empowers creative and holistic entrepreneurs in money and business. A coach since 2003, she is a certified coach through both Martha Beck & Best Year Yet. Without a doubt, you've heard about the many benefits of CBD, considering it's everywhere these days.
But do you know how supportive CBD or THC, or best yet, the combination of the two can be for reproductive and autoimmune issues?
In today's interview, I sat down with Dr. Michele Ross, a neuroscientist that studied addiction who fell into using cannabis after debilitating illness struck her and nothing else would help.
Once wheelchair bound and on oxygen after surviving deadly bloodclots, Dr. Ross found her way to plant medicine after deciding she couldn't live a life using opiods to just get through.
She found her way to thriving.
We have a powerful discussion about how the proper use of cannabis can not only help the extreme pain of fibromyalgia, but also period pain, menopause, and chemically-induced menopause. We dive into how cannabis suppositories may even help with fibroids and ovarian cysts, plus other issues in the uterus.
I was blown-away with what I learned, and I'm sure you will be too. This is information that everyone should be aware of.
And we definitely chat about her time on Big Brother 11!
Dr. Michele Ross holds a doctorate in Neuroscience and an Executive MBA. As both a patient with multiple chronic illnesses including fibromyalgia and a scientist, she has been a leader in drug policy reform, patient advocacy, and cannabis education. Dr. Ross is the author of five books including Vitamin Weed: A 4-Step Plan to Prevent and Reverse Endocannabinoid Deficiency and the upcoming CBD Oil For Health.
She has created educational courses on multiple platforms including the Holistic Cannabis Academy, Green Flower Media, and her own sites including fibrouniversity.com and drmicheleross.com. Dr. Ross is known for breaking boundaries as the first scientist to star on a reality television series in the world, finishing 4th place on the hit CBS series Big Brother 11. She has been featured on the Today Show, the Doctors, Vice, and many other media outlets, and now lives in Las Vegas. Find her at her website, or grab her book, Vitamin Weed: A 4-Step Plan to Prevent and Reverse Endocannabinoid Deficiency.
Are you able to talk to your doctor about your sexual health concerns?
Are you aware of the myriad of ways you can deal with everything from bacterial vaginosis to vulvodynia to STDs to hormone issues?
If not, today's episode is here to rescue you. I sat down with Sexual Health Pharmacist Tara Thompson and we discussed all the ways that you can be supported when it comes to your sexual health, from traditional medications and therapies to over-the-counter options, pelvic floor health, and functional approaches from supplements to herbs.
Tara's mission is to educate both patients and doctors on all the options available for women's and men's reproductive health, sexual concerns, and life transitions. She is working with doctor's offices to create protocols around supporting transgender healthcare, and we chat about specific ways healthcare practitioners can be more inclusive in their practices.
We also talk about "bridging" the two worlds of allopathic and functional medicine, which is a strong suit of pharmacists because they have been trained on herbs just as much as medications.
If you've been dealing with something "down there" and haven't felt safe to turn to your healthcare provider or anyone else about it, this episode will give you hope! There is help. Tara offers a list of resources that range from the Sexual Medicine Society of America to the Pelvic Guru at her website.
Tara Thompson is a pharmacist and patient advocate in the field of sexual health. She recognized the lack of pharmacist education, as the drug experts, in the field of sexual medicine and knew she could make a difference. She created her website, as well as her Facebook and Instagram pages with the same name, in order to bring education to the public surrounding sexual medicine and the drugs involved in a patient's pathway of care. Her passion is treating, counseling, and educating patients and providers alike about men's and women's sexual health conditions ranging from vulvodynia and interstitial cystitis to erectile dysfunction and Peyronie's disease. Tara has been a practicing compounding pharmacist for 8 years in the field of sexual medicine, developing and designing pharmaceutical drug combinations for various sexual health conditions. She collaborates with providers nationwide who practice sexual medicine.
She is working toward her sex educator certification through AASECT, which she hopes to complete by 2021. She also co-developed an advocacy panel called "justASK!" which hosts different sexual health experts on a monthly basis to encourage patients to ask any questions surrounding sexual health. She is a supporter of the LGBTQ community and also an advocate of mental health and the fight against sexual trauma and trafficking. Tara is currently researching and gathering evidence for drug treatment protocols in the field of transgender medicine. As a pharmacist, Tara feels like she brings another element of care to the healthcare team, in terms of drug decisions, strengths, and dosing. In her spare time, she love to cheer on the Atlanta Braves, kayak the Etowah River, and build forts with her kids.

This week's episode is with Ellie Thomas, Holistic Nutrition Consultant & Deep Transformational Coach, and it's all about nourishment.
Ellie focuses on teaching women how to properly nourish their bodies in order to support not only hormonal health, but overall vitality.
I love this approach, since most women need nourishment in their lives - it's a BIG missing piece. Particularly during Covid times, women put themselves last - and sometimes, what they focus on for themselves is pretty far away from being truly nourishing.
In this interview we cover:
-What the heck is nourishment, and what does it actually look like?
-Why it's not just about WHAT you eat, but what your body does with it
-How nourishing yourself reconnects you to your body, helping with a plethora of issues from PMS to disordered eating
-How food is just as important to your community as it is to your hormones
-What kicked off her personal health journey (there's probably some similarities to yours!)
-Freebies! And how you can connect with Ellie
Sink into the wisdom that Ellie has to share!
As a Holistic Nutrition Consultant & Deep Transformational Coach, Ellie helps her clients nourish, step into, and love the extraordinary people they were created to be. Through her journey of learning to nourish and love her full self, on the mind, body, and soul levels, she has come to believe that stabilizing and nourishing the body allows us to visit and heal deeper aspects of our being, and that true health goes beyond the food. Ellie is the host of the Deeply Nourished for Life podcast, the creator of the Well Woman Reset Program, the co-founder of the Well Together Collective, a speaker and mentor for women aspiring to impact others on their health and wellness journey. You can find her at her website.
Fertility issues are very common for women these days, but what happens if you have the added layer of endometriosis?
For those that don't know, endometriosis is a condition where the uterine lining grows outside of the uterus (when it should only be inside of the uterus) and causes an incredible amount of pain both during a woman's period and ovulation, and for some women, throughout the month.
In today's interview, I chat with Lizzie Alexander, PhD, who is The Endo Fertility Specialist. She works with women who have endometriosis who have struggled to get pregnant by getting to the root issues at play.
We cover:
*How to get diagnosed with endometriosis (it often takes YEARS, and Lizzie shares with us how to cut that time way down)
*Exactly how endo inhibits fertility
*How inflammation is at the center of endometriosis, and what you can do about it
*What hormones are at play, and what hormone testing can help
*She shares her story of successfully getting pregnant after waiting over 25 years to get diagnosed with endo
This is a powerful discussion that really breaks down exactly why it's hard to conceive if you have endometriosis. Not to mention the fact that there are women who are having trouble conceiving that don't even realize they have endo.
Lizzie Alexander, PhD, MSc, BSc (Hons), is a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Holistic Massage Therapist. Lizzie specializes as a Women's Health Coach for women with Endometriosis wanting to get pregnant. She is an Entrepeneur and a mother of one. She used to be a Marine Biologist, a scientific researcher and environmental consultant, but she is now a certified Coach with a love for health, hormones, nutrition and cooking – in particular Endometriosis and fertility. You can find her at her website or on her FB group for women who struggle to conceive: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thriveandconceivewithendometriosis/.
There has been a ton of focus on mask-wearing, social distancing, and staying-at-home since Covid became a pandemic.
While all of these approaches are necessary in slowing down the spread of the virus, on the whole, we are not talking about what is necessary to diminish the impact of the virus on individuals: a healthy immune system.
Today, I’m talking with my colleague Ellen Syversen, Holistic Nutritional Counseling and Therapy, about what we need to do to support our immune systems to both tackle this virus, and the many others that come our way at any given time.
Both Ellen and I utilize a stool test in our practice that provides an immune function marker, so we see on the daily how depressed so many people’s immune systems are. This is true for a variety of reasons, and we cover many of them, including:
–Diet, including the impact of sugar and alcohol on our immunity
–Gut Health
–Lifestyle choices
–Stress levels
and more.
We also talk about some of the nutrients that the latest research is telling us will help support your body to have a better fighting chance against Covid.
Now is the perfect time to work on cleaning up your “inner” house as well as protecting yourself out in the world. This episode is a great guide on how to do just that!
Ellen Syversen, MPH, CHES, NTP, has a master’s degree in public health from Tulane University School of Public Health and over 20 years of experience as a certified health educator. Her passion for nutrition started as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Niger, West Africa where she worked on maternal and child health issues as a Nutritionist in a rural village for two years. Prior to starting a nutritional therapy practice, Ellen managed and directed the OSU Lane County Extension Nutrition Education Program and conducted numerous seminars county wide.
Combining her background as a health educator with her training as a Nutritional Therapist & Restorative Wellness Practitioner, Ellen offers clients holistic, functional nutrition counseling, therapy, and education with the goal of correcting imbalances in body chemistry and achieving optimal wellness naturally.
Some of her areas of expertise include chronic fatigue, food sensitivities, digestive dysfunction, hormonal balance through diet and blood sugar issues. Ellen loves to practice what she preaches and enjoys getting people excited about expanding their food horizons and using natural supplements, diet, and lifestyle approaches to restore health and wellness.
Ellen offers a free, confidential, no obligation, 20 minute phone consultation for potential clients, and she also offers long distance consultations via Skype, Zoom and phone. Ellen is available for speaking engagements and workshops and can be reached pathwaysforhealth [at] gmail.com. You can also find her at her website.
In today's episode, I ride solo to talk about one of the three major things that underlies your hormone health: your adrenals.
Often overlooked when it comes to hormones, how your adrenals are functioning is actually at the root of how your menstrual cycle is doing.
When I run hormone labs on clients, I look to their adrenal health first (as measured by a 4-point cortisol test) before we begin to tackle estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
Why? I tell you the exact reasons in this episode. And hint: it's not about "adrenal fatigue" (and I explain why).
What I cover:
-The hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis - what each part is and its function, and how they "talk" to each other
-Why your lowered adrenal function has more to do with the brain than the adrenals
-How both cortisol - the stress hormone - and DHEA - the precursor hormone to estrogen and testosterone - are produced in the adrenals and their relationship to one another
Why when your cortisol goes up, your sex hormone output goes down
The 5 Basic Things you absolutely NEED to be doing to take care of your adrenals (and by extension, your sex hormones)

Today, we’re headed a bit off track from the usual hormone and gut talk as I sit down with Astrologer Diotima Mantineia.
But don’t get me wrong – this episode is about health – our own, our community’s, and our planet’s – just as much as any other.
Diotima takes us into a journey of what the stars (and planets) are telling us about the rest of 2020 – and into 2021. We talk Covid, the protests, the precipice where America finds itself – and we talk about how to use astrology to support your OWN health and immune system.
Here are some of the highlights:
*Learn about the 200-year cycle that kicks off this December, and what that means for humanity
*We talk about Pluto’s return to where it was originally stationed when America was born, and what that means for everything we are experiencing now (and in the coming years)
*Come to understand how past-life experiences can help each of us tune more deeply into empathy and connection to oppressed people
*See how different consciousnesses beyond human form can support us in transitioning to a fairer, just world AND can help us with our own health issues
*Learn how astrology can help you in your healing process
We cover so, so much more that will help you weather these intense times, which you can watch below. Be sure to check out Diotima’s book for even more help.

Welcome to Season 2 of the Hormonally Speaking podcast! We’re kicking off this season with an amazing guest and topic.
Stress has become such a big part of nearly every woman’s life that many of us wear it as a badge of honor. Being busy makes us feel good on some level, even as it begins to impact our sleep, mood, and hormones.
But did you know that you might actually be ADDICTED to stress?
In today’s episode, I dive deep into this topic with the wonderful Dr. Mariza Synder, a Functional Practitioner, Women’s Health Expert, and bestselling author. She understands this topic so well because she’s experienced it herself.
We cover specifically how stress impacts our health, hormones, and brain function, and the ways we can become truly addicted to our stress chemicals.
She also shares her own experiences of noticing and overcoming her stress addiction, as well as ways to begin to unwind these patterns.
She shows us a wonderful thing you can do to instantaneously get out of stress-mode, and it takes about 30 seconds!
Every woman with hormonal issues needs to listen to this episode, because the hormone situation will never get better without tackling stress.
Here’s where you can grab the special free gift from Dr. Mariza mentioned in the show!

Do you have digestive issues that just don't get better, no matter how much you change your diet?
Are you bogged down by joint pain, allergies, or fatigue, and just can't seem to figure out why?
Hormones out-of-whack no matter how many supplements you take?
Symptoms can give us some information, but unfortunately they don't tell us exactly what is going on in our gut. Luckily, we now have access to lab testing that DOES tell us what's happening deep in our gastrointestinal tract.
Functional nutritionists utilize these lab tests to see what pathogens, opportunistic bacteria, and beneficial bacteria are at play in order to figure out how to re-balance our gut "garden", as Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner Andrea Dahlman explains in today's episode.
We also get a chance to see how a person is absorbing fat (important for the body's usage of fat-soluble vitamins), if they are releasing enough pancreatic enzymes, if gluten is an issue, and inflammation and immune system markers that provide the whole picture.
Adding in the knowledge of specific food sensitivities leads to customized protocols that are bioindividual and lead to deep healing in the gut. We also talk mold testing and other options for stool testing in this super-informative episode.
Dive in and get ready to learn a ton!
Andrea Dahlman is Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner who specializes in Digestive health and IBS. She has been in practice for 9 years. Her friends call her the poop talker. Andrea helps clients identify the root causes of their digestive imbalances and helps them restore health by addressing the underlying issues. Her work focuses on the digestive process from the first fork full of food to the last flush of the toilet. She educates, empowers and partners with clients so they can make life long sustainable changes. It is her goal to return to them to a life they love free of digestive challenges. One of the most popular episodes on Hormonally Speaking is with Rebecca Sairs about PMDD. We didn't have a chance to cover her story during that episode, so I thought I'd bring her back to find out how she first discovered she had PMDD and the ups and downs of healing it over the years.
If you haven't heard about PMDD, it stands for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, and is even classified in the DSM-5.
Think of it as PMS on steroids. It can include intense mood swings, marked irritability or anger, depression and anxiety in the week leading up to your period (and sometimes longer).
Rebecca's story of how she has conquered this condition is both educational and inspirational. Give it a listen if this is something you currently suffer from, or think might be an issue.
Rebecca Sairs is a registered yoga teacher and certified health coach who specializes in helping women ditch their PMDD symptoms naturally. She does this by empowering women to make lasting food and lifestyle changes so that they can feel happy and like themselves all month long. Rebecca believes that a woman should be the PMDD Boss of her wellbeing, and she strives to help her clients keep their power when making decisions around their health. Rebecca is certified through the Integrative Women’s Health Institute, studied under Nicole Jardim in her Fix Your Period Apprenticeship, and is currently working on her National Board Certification in health and wellness coaching. You can find Rebecca at her website, or on Instagram.
Can you help me with 3 minutes of your time? As I mentioned at the beginning of the episode, we are conducting a survey to determine if there's a link between different Enneagram types and hormone imbalances. The more women who take the survey, the better info I can return to you! Click here to fill it out. Thank you so much!
“If you go into something just for the money, then when times get really tough, emotionally, it’s going to drain you. But if you go into something because you are passionate about it, you’re going to be a lot more resilient. So that when it does dip, you’re still going to have that passion, because this is what you want to do, it’s just life is taking you a different route right now.”
A message for our times!
In this episode of Hormonally Speaking, I talk with my old friend Lola Akinmade, who has become a famous travel writer and photographer during the decade I’ve known her.
I was so interested to hear her story and thoughts, because she juggles a successful career with being a mom, as well as being a Nigerian-born woman in a field full of white, mostly American men.
She’s always inspired me, and I know she will inspire you too. Listening to Lola, we begin to see it is our self-limitations that hinder us the most, because she’s got gender, race, and motherhood working “against” her, yet she’s still been able to go further than I think even she dreamed.
Particularly during this time in history, when many of us are reassessing what is important in life, and what we really want our future to look like, Lola’s points about passion and determination are truer than ever.
I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!
Award-winning writer and photographer Lola (Akinmade) Åkerström has photographed and dispatched from 70+ countries for various publications. In addition to contributing to several books, she is the author of the following books – 2018 Lowell Thomas Award winner for best travel book, DUE NORTH, & bestselling LAGOM: Swedish Secret of Living Well available in 18 foreign language editions.

What’s a far-too-common menstrual issue that’s not talked about nearly enough?
Well, there’s more than a few, but this one impacts an estimated 1 in 10 women:
Polycystic ovary syndrome, aka PCOS.
This common condition was something I had yet to cover on Hormonally Speaking, so I was truly excited to bring on PCOS expert Robyn Srigley, aka The Hormone Diva.
During our lively chat, we got down to exactly what classifies a woman as having PCOS (which can unfortunately be tough to get diagnosed, even with lab tests).
We also dive into Robyn’s four step method to naturally level out your hormones, which includes addressing blood-sugar balancing, mindset&stress, inflammation, and sex hormones themselves (hint – birth control unfortunately will not regulate your hormones).
You’ll also get to hear Robyn’s powerful story, as she has faced all the ups and downs of PCOS since she was a teenager.
This is interview is packed full of great information and tips if this is something you currently deal with or think might be an issue.
Robyn Srigley is a Holistic Nutritionist and The Hormone Diva. Robyn is the creator of Hormone Diva Society, an online membership community for women with PCOS and Endometriosis to fix their cycles and end fatigue without more drugs, surgeries or restrictive diets. Robyn’s signature 4-Root Method used inside Hormone Diva Society has not only reversed her own PCOS symptoms but has helped hundreds of PCOS & Endo Divas around the world. You can find out more about her work at her website.
Wanna join us for our virtual class at 6pm EST on Thursday, April 23rd? Email me for the Zoom link!
I've got a special episode for you this week that is wildly pertinent for the time we are living in.
Many of us are stressed to the gills due to the lockdown's impact on our economy and our paychecks, having to keep kids at home all day and teach them, and missing out on physical, in-person connection.
But even with all of the negatives we are experiencing, there's something deeper and profoundly healing bubbling under the surface.
What if the way we were living before Corona was unsustainable not only for the Earth, but for each of us as women?
What if we couldn't ever truly heal our adrenals or hormones because of the continuous stress and fast-paced life before CV?
What if this virus is really a reprieve, one that is paving the way for the feminine timeline? For a more balanced world on the other side?
Sarah and I dive deep into these questions and vision the light at the end of the tunnel. If you've felt into more spaciousness despite the fear of what is happening and what is to come, this episode provides a roadmap for the future.
Sarah Poet, M.Ed, helps women to remember the sacred truth that lies within them, the truths we often spend many years looking for outside of ourselves. Sarah is the host of the Sacred Remembering podcast for “Modern women waking up to the truth of who they are,” which includes leading conversations on modern feminine leadership through our grounded awakenings. Sarah is the founder & creator of Embodied Breath, where she is a presence-based teacher, healer, mentor, & coach for women & conscious couples building sacred relationships. What makes Sarah unique is that she doesn’t bypass the difficult stuff on the way to awakening, rather we need to go through it all. Sarah is also an expert on the feminine & masculine archetypes, and how to heal & balance them, within all bodies & relationships. See her TEDx @ https://www.sarahpoet.com/watch-my-tedx, and connect with her at her website, https://www.sarahpoet.com/.
Want to be a part of the class I mentioned at the beginning of the podcast? Email me here and I send you the Zoom link!
Last week, I led a class via Zoom where we used movement medicine (a little something I like to call "Metamorphosis Ritual Groove") combined with a spontaneous EFT session on connecting to and trusting your higher self, and finished off with a 20-minute meditation session.
I believe in times like these, we need to use all the tools and magic possible to stay in our bodies, stay safe, and rise above the noise. Movement grounds the body, EFT clears and processes gunked up energy and emotions, and meditation turns down the noise.
A few of the people who were in the class asked afterward to access the spontaneous EFT session once again since it had impacted them so much. So it gave me the idea to share it with you! I want everyone to have as much access to grounding tools as possible.
We're doing the class once again this Thursday from 6-6:50pm EST for those of you who are interested. Here's the Zoom link, and shoot me an email for the password. I'm asking for a $5-7 donation for the class, though no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Hope you get some relief from this EFT session! Be sure to check out and subscribe to my Youtube channel for more guided EFT sessions if you aren't already on there.
Do you experience vaginal symptoms that didn't go away after being treated for yeast or vaginosis? Or do you deal with vaginal burning and itching in the absence of an infection?
Then it just may be Vulvodynia.
In this episode, I dive in with Hannah Matluck, who founded the podcast and website V Hive, after her own battle and journey with this not-talked-about-enough painful condition.
You'll learn about the many different approaches that Hannah took to heal her condition, what worked and what didn't, and how it takes a multi-pronged approach - including pelvic floor therapy, gut health, and something that might surprise you (it did me!) - to get to a place of living pain free.
Hannah decided to share her wisdom by starting a podcast about pelvic floor issues, interviewing some of the top experts in the field on the topic. As she notes: "2 Billion Women Worldwide will experience a pelvic floor disorder at some point — so why aren’t we talking about it? Why do 40% of women still shy away from asking their doctors questions about their intimate health? The only way to share a message of meaning today is to open your mouth and hit the record button. This is how The V Hive came to be.

When you get the worst diagnosis you possibly can in your mid-40s, what do you do?
Well, if you are Tara Coyote, you take it on full-speed ahead.
For the last 3.5 years, she has gone toe-to-toe with breast cancer, dealing with it both holistically and eventually, after her life got turned upside down, with chemo. She has had many "aha"s along the way that made her drop all pretenses, and she is no longer tethered to the "right way" with her health choices.
She follows that which allows her to keep living. And by living, I mean living every single day to its fullest.
Her inspirational story will provide solace in these turbulent times. Because if she can handle her illness with such reverence, respect, and action, we can take on a virus that is changing everything we have depended on until this moment. Listen to what gifts Tara has to share, whether you yourself are facing a cancer diagnosis or not. It's a beautiful story that will leave you more connected to your own humanity!
You can find Tara at her blog, cancerwarrioress.com, or on IG at https://www.instagram.com/taracoyote/.
Tara Coyote was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer 3.5 ago and chose an exclusive natural path of healing for 2.5 years. After her life was turned upside down, she was forced to sell the horse ranch and retreat center she owned and the cancer spread. At that point, she moved back to her native home of Kauai. Facing death and recommendations for hospice, she had to face fear of allopathic medicine and chemotherapy. Nine months of intense chemo later, her last test scores said cancer-free, though she still has cancer in her body.
Christine's Note: As I mentioned in the podcast, I released an Immune Defense program to help aid your body through this viral outbreak. It covers the gamut of things you can do to both support your immune system AND fight the virus with natural antivirals. You have two program options: one with supplements, and one without.
Time to get dirty, y'all.
Actually, we're getting super clean in this episode, since it's all about coffee enemas and liver flushes!
I'm excited to have Ms. Kitty Martone, aka Healthy Gut Girl, back on the podcast talking about something that makes a lot of people squeamish. But this age-old remedy is making the rounds once again beyond just the "alternative" health community as a powerful way to upregulate your liver function and jump-start your hormonal healing.
We talk (and laugh) about the different reasons you would want to do a coffee enema, as well as going through the somewhat daunting - but incredibly effective and life-changing - liver flush. Kitty talks about the right ways to do both, and how they impact everything from skin health to energy to hormones to mental clarity to joy. And I get comfortable with the idea of bringing them back into my life post-colon surgeries.
Fair warning - we also dive into a bit of sex talk about halfway through, so if that's not something you want to listen to, you can skip right over that section!
Kitty has a great new program coming out detailing how to do both the liver flush and enemas, so be sure to check out her store to grab one when it goes on sale. In the meantime, check out her super cute video to get a glimpse in to what coffee enema-ing is all about.
Kitty Martone, aka Healthy Gut Girl, is the creator of The Total Gut Makeover, Author of “The Gut Health Diet for Beginners” & “The 4-Week Gut Health Plan” and host of the podcast, ‘Stuff Your Doctor should Know’. -The difference between blood tests and hair mineral analysis and where blood tests fail us, especially when it comes to our thyroid
-How heavy metals negatively impact our body and hormone health
-Why minerals are so important to our overall health and why most of us are deficient in multiple ones
-Why functional lab testing is SO important and necessary
-Our microbiome, genes, and figuring out what we should be eating based on those
-The power of Fecal Matter Transplants (FMT) and what they are!
-The problem with gluten-free products
We geek out on all this stuff and more!

For so long, it seemed like there was just this time of life women would suddenly hit – menopause – and everything went dark. There was really nothing you could do about it.
What a disservice to women! Not only is it not-as-simple as just hitting menopause (a little thing called perimenopause lasts much longer than menopause for many women), it’s also a lie that there’s nothing we can do to ease the transition. Plus, hitting menopause doesn’t mean your life has to be over – you can be just as a vital post-menopause as you are pre-menopause if you know the steps to take care of your body.
In this interview with Maria Claps, we cover it all:
If you are over 40, you don’t want to miss this episode!

After that, Maria pursued several hormone-centric trainings including Dr. Sara Gottfried’s practitioner hormone training program, the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition program and she also has been mentored by hormone scholar and scientist Dr. Lindsey Berkson.
Maria helps women all over the world as a perimenopause and menopause mentor via her Thrive Over 45 program. She is a DUTCH hormone test expert. She also teaches health coaches and other wellness practitioners in a mentorship program called Midlife Hormone Mastery.

I've known about vaginal steaming (sometimes referred to as "yoni steaming") for a while now. In fact, I probably learned about it the same way you may have - when Gwyneth Paltrow introduced it to the wider western world in 2015 via her online magazine, Goop.
There's been a ton of negative press about vaginal steaming since that time, probably because of Paltrow's assertions of its healing properties. What is rarely talked about is that vaginal steaming has been used for thousands of years by nearly all cultures, which Garza shares on her Vaginal Steam World Map. And despite all the OB/GYNs that are interviewed for articles condemning vaginal steaming, Garza lists a few of the US doctors that use steaming in their practice.
As we talk about in the interview, some of these OB/GYNs have found steaming particularly good for bacterial vaginosis, which has a high recurrence rate when using prescribed medications.
I was particularly intrigued about using vaginal steaming for fibroids, which of course I asked Keli about (listen in to hear what she has to say!).
One other aspect of the "uproar" about vaginal steaming that I want to point out. Negative articles will often point out that vaginal steaming has not been shown to offer any benefits, and in fact can be damaging. But the problem is, there has been no research conducted in this country to point either way. Yet studies have been conducted in other countries, including Korea, where steaming is like "getting a manicure," it's done so often. So the underlying racism at play - the idea that other non-white countries science isn't valid - is typical when it comes to discussions about natural techniques used by indigenous cultures for most of human time.
And since none of the "experts" claiming vaginal steaming is harmful are doing any studies to back these claims, Garza decided to commission a small study called, Fourth Trimester Vaginal Steaming: A Foundational Study. The study concluded that: "vaginal steaming has a positive impact on many of the indicators of postpartum recovery, particularly in the areas of lowering blood pressure and pulse, uterine restoration, initiating and expediting waist girth and weight loss, labia healing, the quicker cessation of uterine bleeding through drawing out lochia, alleviating suture discomfort, promoting bowel regularity and hemorrhoid reduction."
There are so many hardships women face with their cycle - from excessive bleeding to no period at all - that vaginal steaming can help with, and Keli and I discuss these in-depth.
Keli Garza has a Masters degree in International Development graduating cum laude. Garza is the owner of Steamy Chick the largest distributor of vaginal steam supplies in the United States. To further vaginal steam education Garza founded a branch of her company called the Peristeam Hydrotherapy Institute to train practitioners in the use of vaginal steam for menstrual and reproductive health and to further research on the gynecological benefits reported by hundreds of customer case studies. Most of us know all too well about the dreaded PMS, but have you heard of PMDD? If you suffer from extreme PMS symptoms that last much longer than the typical few days before your period, you may actually have PMDD, or premenstrual dysphoric disorder. This disorder is even classified in the DSM-5, the psychiatric diagnostic manual.
Today's guest, Rebecca Sairs, knows about this disorder intimately. Through both her education and personal experience, she has learned how to tackle PMDD from a holistic perspective, which we dive into in this episode. How do you determine if you have PMDD? What are root causes? What ways should you support your body? What can make PMDD worse? We cover all this and more.
Rebecca is a registered yoga teacher and certified health coach who specializes in helping women ditch their PMDD symptoms naturally.

In this episode of Hormonally Speaking, Christine runs a solo show to answer some hormone-related questions from listeners. These include:
-What's the first thing I should do to deal with my excruciating PMS?
-I read that you balanced out your hormones at age 40 after all of your surgeries. How did you do that?
She also dives more into her own story about her fibroid-surgery gone wrong, and ways to approach surgery that take into account what complications can look like, and what to do about them. If you are going to have a gyno surgery, these can save your life, so listen in.
She also discusses the underlying issues when it comes to fibroids, and why surgeries aren't the holy grail when it comes to reproductive issues.

What can really change your reproductive life? Two things we talk about in today's episode of* Hormonally Speaking*.
I absolutely loved having this conversation with Ashley Marie, who is a licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist specializing in Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy.
And if you've never heard of Maya Abdominal Therapy, you are about to learn something EVERY woman should know about.
You probably know by now that I'm into doing just about anything to help women with their fibroids, and this is one technique that can help tremendously. It also supports every part of your reproductive health, and can be particularly helpful with bringing back periods, easing period pain, and normalizing your cycle.
We also dive into the other arena I want every woman to be educated on - FAM (Fertility Awareness Method). As Ashley mentions, it's 99.4% effective when done correctly. And even beyond fertility or birth control, FAM does SO much to connect you to your body and overall health.
I wish I would've known about it as a teen, which Ashley and I also talk about. Being empowered with FAM at a younger age could help with so many issues that come up around sex and body autonomy.
Ashley Marie is a Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist specializing in Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy and Intuitive Bodywork. After suffering from irregular and painful menstrual cycles for most of her life and getting no help in understanding them from her medical providers, she decided to trust that the healing was in her own hands. With a combination of herbs, massage and dietary changes she now has a regular, pain free cycle that she looks forward to each month. She is passionate about creating a space for women to transform their menstrual realities with womb work, reproductive health education and practical self~care rituals. She lives in an forested community in the Mountains near Asheville, NC with her husband and 4 children.

Katie combines her training as a Licensed Professional Counselor with her innate gift for intuition to help people figure out what is happening with their health. Welcome back to day 2 of the 2019 Hormone Summit! It’s time to “Bring the Downstairs UpFront” with Amanda Hayes Fugate (her awesome catchphrase!). Amanda is a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist, and today we’re talking about how important this area is to our hormones, sexual health, and emotional well-being.
