The happiest and most satisfied person in the world would look in the mirror and see a reflection of them, exactly as they were, for they would then have no one and nothing more to yearn or desire for that the mirror could ever show them. Thursday December 1, 2022We've seen the context of the Lord's Prayer in Matthew, which immediate context is the Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew, Jesus' ministry begins with His message of "repent for the kingdom of God is at hand." It would seem that all she wanted to do, even at the cost of great shame that would be heaped upon her, was to touch the Lord. Perhaps, after believing in Him as the Messiah, felt the need to throw herself into His light and be dealt whatever she had coming to... for full notes: https://www.cgtruth.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=2722
November 13, 2022 Many of the psalms are antiphony types. Antiphony literally means "other voice." We know songs like this, where the leader sings a line and the audience sings the next line on their own. There is a bit of this done in the Catholic mass, of which I fondly (or not so much) remember. The praise psalms are especially like this. There many psalms of praise throughout the Psalter, and the final five (146-150) all begin with "Praise the Lord" and repeat the phrase again and again. Psa 145, "A Psalm of Praise" seems to introduce these final praise psalms, and it is clearly, like them, antiphonic.

Sunday November 6,2022 The Psalms contain the Messiah: pre-incarnate, birth, death, resurrection, session, return. Jesus told His disciples that Moses, the prophets, and the Psalms all spoke of Him. One writer says about this, "For him Christianity could never be merely intellectual theory, doctrine divorced from life, or mystical emotion, but always it must be responsible, obedient action, the discipleship of Christ in every situation of concrete everyday life, personal and public."

Tuesday June 21, 2022 We are too easily pleased. We don't crave too much. We don't crave enough. God is offering us infinite joy in Him, and to get us sheeples to see it, He will withhold certain things, but He will not stop us from craving them - that, we must stop ourselves. God allowed Israel to hunger in the wilderness so that they would see that "man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."

Joy, therefore, begets hope; the hope and confidence that more wisdom awaits you and life will be lived in the eternal counsel of divine purpose. "Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God" (Col 3:2-3). Tuesday May 31, 2022 We will continue to look into the role of the word of God as God speaking specifically to each one of us in real time. God has led me to speak about the purpose of the word of God in pointing us to see God Himself, so we are not necessarily looking at a doctrine, but the reason for all doctrines. From here we will then focus on the doctrine of the sword of the Spirit, which will complete our doctrine of the armor of God. Tuesday February 15, 2022 We are still wrapping up this section in Ephesians that reveals the life of the new self. It is a walk worthy of the calling. Sunday February 13,2022 From Cornelius Plantinga's book Not the Way It's Supposed to Be: "Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's 1978 commencement address at Harvard University, a defining moment in the twentieth-century culture wars, condemned Western godlessness, materialism, and consequent superficiality. The West has thrown away God, said Solzhenitsyn, as well as the accountabilities and depths of purpose that used to be attached to belief in God; it has substituted for these weighty things faddish variations on the pursuit of freedom and happiness. Any return to greatness must begin with a reappraisal of the goal of human life, a recognition of its spiritual nature, and the recovery of a sense of responsibility to God and for... for full notes: https://www.cgtruth.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=2575

Wednesday Fbruary 9,2022 Every role, both authority and subordinates, have a role of subordination to one another in the way of Christ. The parents are to be careful not to discourage their children or provoke them to anger. The masters and slaves have the same Master, the Lord Jesus Christ and masters must be careful not to threaten their slaves. In Christ's new humanity, the roles remained but everyone was made equal, not in society, or even in the home, but in Him while they submitted in their various... for full notes: https://www.cgtruth.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=2573
Tuesday February 8.2022 The new humanity is elevated to heaven spiritually, though he may not see any earthly promotion. This includes earthly slavery, which we could argue is man's lowest place or at least among the lowest, and to be clear, Paul is referring to a person being owned by another person. Slavery is not condoned in the Bible. In the NT it is clearly revealed as wrong, but it is acknowledged as being a part of the world's kingdoms. Wednesday February 2,2022 The main idea: The redemption of Christ is aimed at removing the results of sin and of the fall in every way. The true pattern of marriage is Christ and the church and not the Garden of Eden. Tuesday February 1, 2022 The main idea: The redemption of Christ is aimed at removing the results of sin and of the fall in every way. Sunday January 30, 2022 Why humanity? Humankind was made, is made in the image (model, idol, or copy) of God, and so they are to reflect God. We were made to reflect God. We fell but remained in God's image. We didn't reflect Him, at least most did not, and those who did struggled greatly with personal sin.

Thursday January 27, 2022 "What is the theme which has run right through chapter 4 and spilled over into chapter 5? These chapters are a stirring summons to the unity and purity of the church; but they are more than that. Their theme is the integration of Christian experience (what we are), Christian theology (what we believe), and Christian ethics (how we behave). They emphasize that being, thought, and action belong together." [John Stott]

It is a member only in relation to the body and its other members. It has its existence only by the fact that it is incorporated in the body and has its special function therein." Thursday November 4,2021 I hastily closed 1Co 14 in our last meeting due to time. But I think we gleaned the main point of that chapter. It is really a part of chapters 12-14 in which spiritual gifts and divine love are taught by Paul and then used as a spotlight upon their own conduct in Corinth in two large areas: their use of spiritual gifts (particularly prophecy and tongues) and the method of their actual church meetings. Paul stated chapter 14 with the command to vigorously pursue love, and that because the Corinthians had choses the wrong side in the conflict of glorification of God or self.

Walk in a manner worthy of your election, blessing, unity, work, service, love for one another, walking in the new self (righteousness and holiness of the truth), no falsehood in our dealings with one another, righteous anger, giving to those in need, edifying one another, being kind, sympathetic, and forgiving, putting aside all malice, anger and slander, imitate God and walk in love, don't let immorality,... for full notes: https://www.cgtruth.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=2512
Thursday October 14, 2021 Not long ago, I tended to think that it was best not to consider it and just do the work that you find to do and you will discover it, or something about it. I still partially hold to that view, as agonizing over identifying a gift doesn't seem healthy, nor the idea that the area of the gift is the only area that one can work in. Those are some of the dangerous aspects of searching for it. But, I've modified my view after some more study, after seeing a different aspect of it.

Wednesday October 13,2021 By Christ's removal from earth through the ascension, His work was not to be stopped, but to pass into a higher stage - the church gifted with powers. Christ didn't come to earth to show off His divine power and from that loft judge men. He came to save us and to show us what a new spiritual life would be.

Tuesaday 12,2021 Title: Ephesians 4:7-16; Spiritual gifts - the continuation of Christ's works throughout the age, part 2. "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. The history of mankind will probably show that no people has ever risen above its religion, and man's spiritual history will positively demonstrate that no religion has even been greater than its idea of God." [A. W. Tozer,... for full notes: https://www.cgtruth.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=2509
Sunday October 10,2021 All that God gives remains His own and returns to Him again. Our life, our gifts, remain God's and they can only be properly used in His service. Since He has at His command all the power in the universe, the Lord God omnipotent can do anything as easily as anything else. All His acts are done without effort. He expends no energy that must be replenished. His self-sufficiency makes it unnecessary for Him to look outside of Himself for a renewal of strength. All the power required to do all that... for full notes: https://www.cgtruth.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=2508
Thursday October 7, 2021 In our last lecture we saw the truth that transcendent, infinite, almighty God cannot give anything away, but that all things come from Him and always belong to Him. God is the only self-existent One, all others, whether a cockroach or an archangel, are creatures. Because all things are Gods, then all things must return to Him. Unbelievers will be judged, but we are focusing on God's gifts to His believers.

Spiritual gifts are for edifying the church; promoting the spiritual growth of the individual and the church. From the beginning when Adam needed a helpmate and throughout the Bible, no one could go it alone. Loving God and loving your neighbor has always been the hard and fast rule to success in the life of humanity.

Tuesday September 28, 2021 Addendums: Clarifying reading the Bible on your own: this can be problematic or very beneficial. It is beneficial when a person believes in its authority, sufficiency, necessity, and inerrancy. When such a believer comes across difficult passages or seeming contradictions, they know that there is a solution and will humbly explore it. When a person doesn't believe in the authority and inerrancy of scripture, problem passages and seeming contradictions become a source of criticism and doubt. Sunday, September 19, 2021 Work and service in obedience to God should give peace and joy. The work itself is the reward. If we are grudgingly working in the hope of future reward, or if we expect that the work is loathsome and the joy only comes after the work is done, we are missing the mark. The way of life, the conduct, the character and virtue of the life of Christ are the whole of that life. Did Christ not love doing what He did during the incarnation? Did He despise the incarnation, but put up with it, waiting for the resurrection to experience any joy? God always... for full notes: https://www.cgtruth.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=2496

Sunday August 22,2021 We have begun a study of wisdom so that when we return to Eph 4 to see the gifts Christ has given us we will know the way and manner to use those gifts. Our approach to the study of wisdom has led us to see the things that make for wisdom - the fear of the Lord, drawing near to God, faith, and uprightness. Whenever you seek out something with God, He shows you the only way. There is no use trying to find your own way to it. Thursday August 5, 2021 Having wisdom is vital for mankind to successfully exist in a society in this world. The amount of divine morality that an unbeliever can know is vital to his living in a certain harmony and prosperity in his own societies. When things happen, as they have in the modern West that many people throw off God's definition of good and evil (say in marriage and criminal/civil law) and their only overriding desire is for inner personal happiness and a sense of psychological well-being, they may like to think they believe in good and bad, but these concepts are unhitched from God and merely reflect personal preference. No society can sustain itself if that view is too prevalent.
