It might seem counterproductive for a marketing group to say online content is affecting our lives for the worse. But we believe you need to think through all sides of any important topic.
We often say the impact that online content has on your life and your business is amazing. I mean, here you are reading this or about to listen to this podcast episode — twenty years ago that seemed almost impossible. So yes, there are positives all over the place with online content. But it would be naive of us to think there aren’t negatives.
Now more than ever, people have access to immediate content all over the world. This includes good news and more typically, bad news. Bad news sells. Bad news generates user engagement. And all the news nowadays includes all the comments about the news (good and bad). This is where it gets toxic. It could be as simple as you are excited that your football team won a game, you leave a comment to that news saying as much, and here come the naysayers — saying how they got lucky, they aren’t good, or much worse. Or the news could be related to something devastating or it could be clickbait to get you to go down a scary rabbit hole.
Simply put, online content is affecting our lives. And sometimes it is in amazing ways, but we are seeing how online content is affecting our lives for the worse. We hope a podcast episode like this featuring a mental health professional will help. We hope to create content for the better and content to make you think. And we hope you too will create content with these same things in mind while understanding all sides of online content.

And a quick tip(s) on password protection to get you started:
- Length Matters: Ensure your password is at least 12 to 15 characters long. Longer passwords are harder to crack due to increased permutations. Aim for 25 characters if you can!
- Diverse Characters: Use a mix of upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters. This complexity makes it more difficult for attackers to guess or use brute-force methods.
- Regular Updates: Change your passwords regularly, ideally every 3 to 6 months. Regular changes reduce the risk of unauthorized access, especially if a service you use has been breached. If you think a password is in danger, change it immediately!
- Secure Storage: Avoid writing down passwords. Use a reputable password manager to store them securely (Keeper and LastPass are both good options). Password managers encrypt your passwords, making them accessible only through a master password.
- Two-Factor/Multi-Factor Authentication (2FA/MFA): Whenever possible, enable 2FA or MFA. This adds a layer of security, requiring not just something you know (your password) but also something you have (like a phone to receive a verification code) or something you are (like a fingerprint).

We’re exploring an intriguing intersection of fiction and reality that offers unique insights for entrepreneurs. We’ll explore the world of “Altered State of Affairs” by Jerald Kasimov, a novel that explores themes like intuition, the unknown, trust, and the search for answers – themes that entrepreneurs grapple with every day.
Part 1: The novel and its entrepreneurial relevance
“Altered State of Affairs” introduces us to Steven, who embarks on a perilous journey accompanied by the mysterious Cindy, a character who communicates through a subliminal force. As entrepreneurs, we often have to rely on our intuition or gut feelings when making decisions, much like Steven has to interpret Cindy’s guidance.
Part 2: Cindy – a metaphor for entrepreneurial instinct?
Cindy, despite lacking physical senses, can perceive emotions and events, mirroring the entrepreneur’s need to read the market and understand their customers’ needs. Her communication with Steven may not always be clear, much like how entrepreneurs often operate in uncertain conditions, having to interpret ambiguous signals to make the best decision.
Part 3: The quest for answers and the role of trust
Steven’s continuous quest for answers and his trust in Cindy’s guidance reflects an entrepreneur’s journey. Often, we seek answers and clarity in a dynamic, uncertain business environment. People are struggling to access therapists as the demand for mental health care seems to be at an all-time high. This could be due to their location, the stigma that still exists around having a therapist, and the fact that there is a shortage of mental health professionals.
The increase in demand for therapy could be linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, political divisiveness, acts of violence, economic fears, addictions, relationships, and social media. The lack of access to therapy is also due to strict licensing rules, making it difficult for therapists to work across state lines. However, some states are working together to give reciprocity to each other. While the therapist stigma is still there, there is an increase in people seeking therapy and being willing to try it out.
This episode suggests opening up access to therapy by allowing out-of-state therapists to see people from different states. There is also a discussion about the cost of therapy, which is a concern, but also a sign that therapy is being seen by consumers as a necessity as people seem to be willing to pay for therapy without insurance. The overall message of the mental health industry is to help as many people as possible and provide them with the support they need.

There’s no better way to kick off 2023 than having a coffee with your friend and listening to a Saviors of the Metaverse podcast.

Is that going to happen anytime soon?

Just sit back, relax, and let ChatGPT do the heavy lifting.
But seriously, folks, AI is not just revolutionizing the way we party, it’s also revolutionizing education. With ChatGPT, students can now have a personalized learning experience, tailored to their specific needs and abilities. And let’s not forget about the teachers, who can now use AI to grade papers, create lesson plans, and even conduct virtual classes.

No one gave the Buckeyes a chance. But it was in Coach Matta’s house on that day that the coaches knew they needed to have a winning mindset. And then two days later, late in the game, the Buckeyes had a decision. To go for the tie or to go for the win… the rest as they say is history. Medicating Normal Documentary Discussion | About Lynn CunninghamAward winning filmmaker, and co-director/producer of Medicating Normal, Lynn Cunningham produced, directed and edited films/TV for PBS and the History Channel in the 1980s and 1990s. A Quiet Revolution: The Emergence of Alternative Education in Japan; Twenty Years of Co-Education; A Family in Progress; An Innovator’s Story, Behind the Scenes, Walter Reuther & the Birth of the UAW, Tadao Ando, Butoh: A Body on the Edge of Crisis, etc).
Twenty years ago, as Lynn was becoming a parent herself, she witnessed with crushing despair the dramatic transformation of a beloved family member. Once a bright, high functioning student-athlete having graduated from an elite college, Lynn’s relative had become in a few short years– a terrified, suicidal shell of her former self— diagnosed with serious mental illness. Putting their faith in the best psychiatric standard of care at the time in the late 90s, Lynn and her family were initially reassured by the relief and stability provided by medication and therapy. After a ten-year period, however, one medicine had become ten, and income from a vibrant, self-sufficient career was replaced with monthly disability payments. Unable to provide an answer to her relative’s persistent self-doubt, “Is everything going to be OK?”” Lynn began searching for answers. She joined with her filmmaking partner Wendy Ractliffe, embarking on five years of research into the complex world of mental health treatment. After discovering Robert Whitaker’s Anatomy of an Epidemic, they interviewed 100s of psychiatric patients and consulted with scores of experts across the country about their experiences. A personal quest to help one suffering individual turned into a mission to tell an untold story. In Medicating Normal, Lynn and Wendy began to piece together a stunning new perspective on the safety and efficacy of psychiatric drugs and society’s over reliance on them to relieve pain and suffering. I first learned of Tim Kight when Ohio State shared the leadership program they had started after the 2012 season. Hearing how they identified Freshman, JT Barrett as an elite leader had me intrigued by what was to come with the Buckeyes.
Sure enough in 2014, Ohio State won the national championship against a national perception and in the face of much adversity. As I continued to pay attention to the program, it was obvious the strong leadership the program had. And I came to realize the impact Tim Kight was having behind the scenes.
Eventually I came across Tim’s podcast which Urban Meyer joined as a co-host this past year. The time taking in their insights has been time well spent.
Tim and I then connected on LinkedIn and a couple months ago we had an opportunity to talk—that chat led to this podcast episode.
I can’t help but learn and be inspired when talking with Tim. And I am excited to have had the opportunity to chat with Tim on this podcast and share it with you. And I am grateful for the time Tim gave us.

He was recruited by some of the best football programs in the country including Florida, Auburn, Clemson, Texas A&M and others. He met incredible leaders along the way including Urban Meyer, Jimbo Fisher, and Mark Richt. He played for Richt and the University of Georgia, before playing at Jacksonville State University.
Christian’s football journey taught and continues to teach him lessons for his business career. With our love of sports and business, you can imagine our excitement to share Christian’s story with you.

Figuring out what you were meant to do. Eric welcomes Harvey Hargrove to this episode of Entrepreneur Perspectives. In this episode, they discuss, professional baseball, mentoring youth athletes, and creating content that gives.
Harvey Hargrove (aka Harv) is a former professional baseball player and current coach for Best Speed Baseball in Sacramento California.
Harv went to Sacramento State University and was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 1997 MLB Draft. He played for multiple minor league baseball teams in the Mariner’s organization. After some time, he decided to transition into coaching and give back to the game of baseball.
You can find Coach Harv on the field these days, mentoring youth athletes and leading them to follow their own dreams. From helping kids improve their performance on the field to helping their mindset while playing, Coach Harv has a major impact on these kid’s baseball lives.
With Harv’s great story and experience, we are super excited to have him on the podcast.

Learn, give, pass, and shoot! Our guest today is Mike Vernace, Founder of Shiftd Hockey. Mike is a repeat guest of the podcast and came on to talk about many topics including athletes building a brand. Mike is a professional hockey player from Toronto, Ontario.
He has played in multiple professional leagues including the NHL and currently plays overseas in Denmark. In the NHL, Mike played for the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning. Mike was drafted in 2004 by the San Jose Sharks and was awarded first all-rookie team in the 2004-5 season of the Ontario Hockey League.
Mike is focused not only on his game but also Shiftd Hockey. Mike is a true entrepreneur. With his passion for the game, he gives back by providing Hockey IQ Training which is critical in today’s analytical sports world. The Shiftd team reviews video footage of hockey players and breaks it down and then provides a detailed analysis combining relevant statistics and notes. This is all included in a player report that contains observations and recommendations. They also provide 1-to-1 learning with the players.
