This sermon is found in the story of Exodus, focusing on the rise of a new king in Egypt who ignores the blessing of God on the Israelites. The sermon explores the consequences of trying to counter God’s blessing in others' lives, as well as the counter curses and the role of faith in subverting destructive forces. It ultimately emphasizes the message that Jesus took on the curse of death so that people may encounter God’s blessing.

This sermon explores how the gospel reveals a way to the generous life. The Corinthian Church learns that true generosity is not motivated by a desire to earn God's love, out of guilt, or to be seen by others. Rather, it is an outpouring of the love and grace that God has shown to us, and it is only through the revelation of God that we can see the abundance of the Kingdom of God and how to remove obstacles to the generous life.
In this passage, we will look at how Paul highlights the beyond generous life of the Philipian Church in his letter to Corinth. Paul is trying to model that a mature church is a beyond generous church. Because the generous gospel does not tell people to simply be generous it creates beyond generous people.
Slingshot Series will be looking at insight's from the life of young David.
In this passage, we will examine the story that led to the life of David and why God rejected Israel's first king, Saul. Ultimately, the God of the Bible desires for those who claim to love and serve Him to actually obey Him. Saul's disobedience of God's command resulted in his rejection and the acceptance of David. This disobedience is the reason why sacrifice is even necessary. Therefore, we will examine the rejection of one king and the prerequisites for the next.

In this passage, we will examine the story that led to the life of David and why God rejected Israel's first king, Saul. Ultimately, the God of the Bible desires for those who claim to love and serve Him to actually obey Him. Saul's disobedience of God's command resulted in his rejection and the acceptance of David. Josh White is a speaker, recording artist, writer, and lead pastor of Door of Hope, a thriving church community of more than 1,500 in the heart of Portland, Oregon, where Josh lives with his wife, Darcy; son, Henry; and daughter, Hattie. Josh has recorded multiple worship albums, including as frontman of Telecast, and produced many records, including Liz Vice’s first album, There's a Light. In this parable, Jesus teaches his disciples not only how to pray, but who they are praying too.
Luke 11v33-36 No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand. So that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. See to it then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light and no part of the dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you. How we see the world and others matters. The health of our eyes is of extreme importance because our eyes allow us to see the world around us. It is the lantern of life. Our perspective and viewpoint are affected. If our lamp is shaded or hidden, by what fills it. Jesus knows that our lives can be affected by not only what we see, but also how we see the world. The window in which we see the world will also affect the lens on how we see our lives and others around us. This is why Jesus' invitation to be born again, results not only in new life, but in new eyes. If you aren't born again, you cannot see the Kingdom. So what keeps us from seeing the Kingdom? Jesus says, if you hide a lamp, you won't be able to see. Therefore, if darkness can get our eyes to believe they are opened by hiding in darkness, it will keep us from Kingdom vision. Not only will we not see the light. But we won't be able to see everything else because of it. The Kingdom of darkness, with all its shadow of turning, adjust our eyes to acquire a taste for darkness. And as our eyes begin to fill with darkness, we become what we consume, our eyes aren't just an entry point. They are also a vista in which we view life. Jesus says, if your eyes are filled with the Kingdom of darkness, you will see the world and others in judgment, condemnation, and criticism. We will become the blind leading the blind. But if our eyes are filled with the Kingdom of Light, if we drink in from the deep wells of the Light of the world, we will see everything with eyes to forgive and eyes to receive. Jesus calls us to see the reality of sin and darkness, but also to lay down our stone. The Kingdom longs for purity of heart, not biased by works or performance, but free from worldly influences entirely dependent on faith Because a pure heart is free from obstruction and darkness and those that are pure of heart, they will see God. Because the Kingdom is hidden in the mundane, ordinary, in everyday life. And with every gaze from a citizen of the Kingdom, turns the world into a beautiful sunrise because those in the Kingdom are a ray, but the King is the sun. The King's word and truth is the fire and we are the wick. So don't hide your light. Let it shine.
The Parable of the Sower is a glimpse of what the news of the kingdom does to the human heart. The fruit it produces and the King that provides it.
Do Not Worry
Matthew 6v25-34
The rule of the kingdom of God is not orientation of lack, but contentment. Because though you don't have the worldly possessions you want, you have the heavily relationship you need this relationship guarantees, whatever befalls you, will always belong to him. The worry-free life is the God present life. Not that the God- trusting life is free from suffering or trials, but because God is your heavenly Father, that doesn't just know what you need, but he knows your heart's deepest desires. There will never be enough material possessions or strategic moves you can think of, which will safeguard you from suffering discomfort or dissatisfaction. There will always be a deeper ache that won't be healed by more things of this world. Because if there is an ache, there must be something that can meet that ache. This ache can only be met by the King of heaven.
Therefore the relationship with Jesus guarantees the worry-free life. If we trust that he is the the king and his kingdom rule is true justice. This gives you a new horizon, a new view for your one life.
So the command to not worry is not a good piece of wisdom. It is the litmus test, if you trust God. Dependence on God is not a bug from the fall, but a feature on how the Father longs to reveal his provision through our asking and supplication. He is not unaware of your problems and your heart's cry. He holds your tears in a bottle. Not because your sorrow is a trophy, but because the bottle represents the salt water prayers, when we couldn't form the words in prayer. The silent ache for home to come. His steadfast love is fixed on his beloved. One who doesn't have to add height to their head to measure up, more time to their day to get ahead, dress up in som unlike splendor to be seen, and doesn't have to sing like a sparrow to be heard and given good gifts from the Father.
So if we seek first the kingdom of God, we don't have to worry about being last in the World.
Every bit of kingdom resource is available to us today. We don't need to worry about the future because the future king and the future kingdom life is available to us today. So, Do Not Worry.
Ask, Seek, Knock
Matthew chapter 7:7-11
Ask, and it will be given to you seek, and you will find knock, and it will be open to you for everyone who asks, receives, and the one who seeks finds and to the one who knocks it will be open. Or which one of you, if his Son asks him for bread, will give him a stone. Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a. If you then who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask of him.
The new year is a gift.
What are you asking for this year? What are you seeking? What door are you looking for?
These questions are the desired line paths that lead to your deep and most present longings. Jesus asks us to ask to reveal our lack in his abundance. He reveals our seeking as a prone to wander and invites us as the good shepherd to pick us up and put us around his shoulders to rest in green pastures.
Our abrupt, anxious, incessant knocking uncovers the joy of the Father because though there are many entrances to the Father's house. May it be the long road of the prodigal or the short walk of the moralistic older brother, there was only one way, and there was only one door to the Father's heart.
His Son has made the greatest truth true that life without his presence is no life, and life with his presence is the only life.
However, today the first day of the year, he asks of you; he is seeking for you. He stands at the door and knocks at your heart. His asking will be an intimate invitation. His seeking will be for the gentle and the lonely. His knocking will sound like the heartbeat that he gave you that every day is a given reminder that he is ready to do something in and through you.
God is not looking to bargain with you this year. He wants to live out his mission in your life. He wants you to put on the skin of Jesus. And serve love and be his hands and feet for your friend, enemy, husband, wife, children, or coworker.
You ask, seek, and knock to enter into the Kingdom this year. And the abundant life will ask and seek and knock of your one life.

Brokenness | 1 Corinthians 5
St.Augustine writes, real love knows how “to love things…in the right order, so that you do not love what is not to be loved, or fail to love what is to be loved, or have a greater love for what should be loved less” (On Christian Doctrine, I.27-28).
Therefore, God is good and is the source of all love and that love is good. We are made by God, and our true nature is not evil. Everything in our world has been made by God and it too is good.
So where do sin and evil enter?
As Ron Rolheiser says,
“They enter in when we misuse the good energy that God has given us, and they enter in when we relate in bad ways to the good things of creation.”

In this passage, Paul explains how important ones relationship to Church leadership is. Knowing that how one leads is of equal importance to how one follows. God will be the judge of the leader, so followers can follow gospel centered leadership, and leave the judging of which leadership style is better up to God.

We become unified as a church as we embrace union with God. What we do flows from our connection with God.
The wisdom you subscribe to is the destination that will lead you. Will it be a fading trend or a kingdom without end.
In the last passage, Paul contends to make the message of the cross central at the Church of Corinth. Now, Paul builds on the importance of the message of the cross by highlighting the way the message of the cross must be delivered. Paul delivered the Message in Humility, Single Heartedness, Honesty, Holy Spirit-Power, and Hope. Paul’s servant posture in delivering the message of the cross is the same posture that will bring true unity to a Church if they chose to follow in his example.

In a world dividing and pulling apart from each other, let us press into the center and cling to Jesus. Division in a community is because of an individual’s divided heart. However, when followers return to the center, they are held together by the gravitational pull of love for Jesus.
In this passage, we learn about prayers needing to be persistent, the heart posture must be right, and the pursuit of the Kingdom must be seen through the faith of a child. We are looking at the last phrase of the Jesus prayer "a sinner." It is not calling yourself a sinner to describe your past, but to declare your dependancy on the righteousness of God, through Christ Jesus.
This week we will be looking at the “Son of God” portion of the Jesus prayer. Because Jesus is the “Son of God” it means he has the power of restoration. Restorative work from the fall. Jesus is the exact image of the invisible God. This Aliso means Jesus is equal with God. Then lastly, Jesus has the authority from God as the Son. In the culture of Rome the title was left for Caesar alone, but early Christians denied Caesar as God and believed Jesus as the Son of God.

In this passage Paul is outlining that your new life is given freedom. We were slaves to the tyranny of sin and death. All of our lives were controlled by it. And now we are set free from sin to be able to be controlled by God. The working wage of a life controlled by sin is death, but a life controlled by God is one that ends in eternal life and real freedom.
God is bringing us a new quality of life through Jesus.
In this passage, Paul is calling us to live into the new life found in Christ Jesus. When we come to the end of our dead lives, we come to the start of true life. We must die to the ways of death and sin. By being baptized into his death on the cross, we can live into the newness of life. God calls us to walk in the way of Jesus, so we can experience a new way to live.Thus, in Jesus, we become fully alive to God, and dead to sin, and are fit to be used as instruments for the purposes and desires of the Master.
God is making a grace-filled new humanity through the person of Jesus.

Love is God’s gift of giving himself to us, so we might give ourselves to others. Christmas is the gift of God to us.
In this passage, we see a scene that is bursting with Joy. The women in this passage are experiencing joy that only comes through the presence of Jesus. The Gospel is what allows people to experience Christmas joy.
Hope is not wishing for change in the world. Hope is responding to the change that has come into the world. Therefor, the hope of Jesus is not receiving a rope to escape the world, but a blueprint to receive and to begin to build for a redeemed world.
God is the true Judge of the World. People fail to be good judges, because those who judge do the very same things they condemn. People believe they can escape judgement because they presume God’s patient kindness, is acceptance. Lastly, God is the only Judge that is impartial in his judgement, because he is the righteous standard. Therefore, God who is the true judge, judges honestly.

Temples are where God's space and human space intersect. For years the Jewish people would worship God in the Temple praying for guidance, power, and healing. Now the followers of Jesus are finding God's space through their relationship with Jesus.
Essentially the Gospel is the message of God's greatest gift. God’s great generosity is displayed for the giving of his son, to pay our debts, and to create new people.

The temple leaders are amazed by this new courage from the under-qualified fisherman. The passage ends with a prayer for more boldness to preach the gospel.
Peter and John heal a lame man on the way to the temple. This new thing that God is doing through his church. The church is not confined like the Temple, but dynamic and is happening outside the old temple system. Jesus is creating new people through his Spirit and restoring them into the family of God.
What are the implications and positive consequences of the four practices (Apostles’ Doctrine, Fellowship, Breaking Bread, and prayer) the early church devoted themselves too? When a church devotes themselves to these four practices, what should we expect the church community to look like? Community is not the goal of the church, but the kind of community is the utmost importance when following the goal, who is Jesus.
Prayer changes things, and the early church prayed like they believed that it did. We must practice prayer to experience true intimacy and the power of God.
