A photographer I worked with referred me to him in 1980. Tobler was planning an intimate party for several hundred friends in Bern, Switzerland & wanted a 4 hour tape for the event. I charged him $125 not knowing what I was getting myself into.
It seems it was such a success he commissioned me to do 2 or 3 more. It's what burned me out on disco; I may never have even kept the follow-up tapes I did.

Michael DeCero was born and raised in the heart of South Philadelphia; he was exposed and influenced early on by the music of the fifties and sixties, in particular Elvis and The Beatles.

Then ultimately David Bowie, which he accredits his ability for storytelling thru his programming sets. By the time he was 18 years old he became an entrepreneur. He was called upon by a friend to help with fundraising efforts for a community Parochial School.

He promptly mixed show tunes and disco dance music on a mono Reel to Reel, followed by spinning on two turntables, which led to becoming the official DJ for the first pre-teen dances in the area. In 1978, he made his DJ debut in night clubs building a solid fan base. Michael’s career spans over 30 years playing in the most influential and highly regarded clubs (The D.C.A., Cell Block, 2-4 Club, Pure, Gatsby’s, Egypt, Shampoo, Cartwheel, Stonewall, The Chez Disco, and many more). Throughout the years his audiences danced to the latest and hottest dance tracks. In 1994, he became a Billboard panelist and has been reporting for the Southeastern, Lehigh, and the Philadelphia area ever since. Michael is one to acknowledge and appreciate the ever-changing trends in music as he keeps up with the times and technology. His career continues to thrive as he remains a driving force in the DJ world.

This was an amateur radioshow that a young Neil Lewis appeared on, in N.Y. 1981. It sounds like it was recorded with a mic on a portable tape recorder. The original recording was very noisy. I was able to remove a lot of the background noise, as well as the motor sound from the tape recorder. I was able to improve the sound with EQ as well.

*Lots of pause button action on this recording, but it's Neil Lewis history that needed to be preserved. It's cool to hear Neil's young voice.

The original recording was 3 hours in length, but the last hour of the B side had so many severe dropouts that the last hour had to be trimmed off.

For a couple of years after Roy Thode passed, I added DJing to my burgeoning career in lighting. Predominately, I made a series of cassettes for a private clientele though I am quite proud to say that my first live DJ performance in a club was at the original Eagle’s Nest in NYC!!

Ultimately my lighting career took over and as they say, the rest is history! And now some almost 40 years later Jim and the SFDPS brought such a pleasantly ironic surprise into my life when he received a box of cassettes from Fire Island Pines and one of mine was included. Wrap your Arms Around Me was a birthday present I made for my dear friend Justin Franklin (may he R.I.P.). He just couldn’t get enough of Agnetha Fältskog’s recently released title track!

While playing at Manhattan's Cheetah, among other spots, he became the first working DJ to take a promotion and A&R role at a record label. Best known for his remixing of "Shame" by Evelyn "Champagne" King and "Stubborn Kind of Fella" by Buffalo Smoke for RCA. Todd also introduced the Latin Hustle to Van McCoy, inspiring him to cut "The Hustle." He partnered with DJ Nick Martinelli to form one of Philadelphia's most powerful post-Gamble-Huff remix and production teams.
