The Monster Energy Supercross at Ford Field seemed built on an Indian Burial ground. We lost Ken Roczen (this week), Cooper Webb, Chase Sexton, Jason Anderson, and Dylan Ferrandis. Some brutal blows to the series. Meanwhile, Eli Tomac is looking like greatness again, and Malcolm Stewart has to be regretting his decision to toss away Daytona as he seems like a contender.

This episode of Cooksey and The Coach they recapped Red Bud and talked rookie fitness among many other topics.
Last year Cooksey wrote an article about how many veterans lose rides to undeserving rookies and used Jalek Swoll as an example. Cooksey was WRONG! Jalek was extremely respectful but remembered the column and wanted to remind Cooksey he had it wrong about him. Cooksey agreed!

We had a couple of guests on this episode, vet rider James Jetmar and prodigy Logan Best. These two are preparing for Loretta Lynns and we discussed their progress. Then we discussed the amazing racing at Pala and what to do if you have EBV or Adrenal fatigue.
This week the show had a bit more serious tone, we pay tribute to the late Scott Sheak and talk about how the Road2Recovery helps injured riders and their families.
On episode #22 Johnny Hopper joined us to discuss the upcoming 250 outdoor series and the drama our podcast has stirred up. Johnny has been leading the charge when it comes to making life better for professional racers and we got his thoughts on the restrictive new rule put into place by MX Sports.

This week we discussed the one way beating Webb has handed Roczen, but both guys are successful in their own terms. Roczen is the greatest comeback story the sport has ever seen, and Webb is the modern-day Bob Hannah. I tell the story of wanting to beat another media member senseless, but coming to my senses just in time.

Nobody doubts the talent of Justin Hill, but his poor work ethic and entitlement are legendary and not in the right way. In a year when teams are struggling for sponsorship dollars and 2021 is uncertain, it's moronic for Hill and Joey Savatgy to be making unrealistic demands or being difficult. They both may have ended their racing careers with their off-track mistakes.
This episode of Cooksey and The Coach featured GNCC racer, Joshua Guffey. Joshua had some insight highlighting the differences between Motocross and Off-Road racing. Robb and Cooksey had some thoughts on the unfortunate death at Glen Helen last week and Ryan Hughes's aggressive Instagram post.

We had future superstar Logan Best on the podcast for a 14-year-old kid, and he is extremely well-spoken and intelligent. I wouldn't say I like the current Amateur system or how it grooms talent, but Robb and the Best family have put Logan in a perfect opportunity for success.
We talk about some strategies to avoid wintertime blues, stress from the election, or any other issues. Life can feel daunting, but we need to focus on what we can control.

Before Jeremy McGrath, there was a "Showtime" not many remember, Mike "Showtime" Bias! He grew up in West Virginia with the Coombs family, and they were promoting races back in the '80s. Dave Coombs Sr. made great strides to give Motorcycle racing the attention it deserved. Sr. teamed up with the USHRA to bring Arenacross alive; he had motorcycles, quads, and three-wheelers racing inside Madison Square Garden. His star was Mike "Showtime" Bias, so much so that he became the focal point for a VHS video documenting the series. Mike was an inspiration for me as a kid, and I wondered about him, and why his career never went much further after the video, so I reached out, and our conversation was informative and fun!

They talked about Eli Tomac and if he should have let his teammate Adam Cianciarulo win the second moto at Lakewood. They touched on Garrett Marchbanks's new team, and Cooksey was less than pleased with Garrett's agent. This all started when Broc Tickle was fired from the Red Bull KTM team for a positive drug test. Unfortunately, Jason Anderson re-ignited the issue in a post-race interview. I was surprised by Aldon Baker and his implications about James Stewart, but you can make up your own mind about all this drama.

It has been a busy week for Cooksey and the Coach, jet setting across the country, to get some quality time with Daniel Blair and Producer Joe in the Batcave. After recapping their trip and appearance on Main Event Moto, they dive into the rider/team/agent relationship. This combination can be like holding a sparkler over a fuel spill, but the relationship needs to be cultivated and nurtured. Careers have been made and destroyed by agents, having one that can get a rider the best deal without compromising the team's relationship is incredibly important.
We run down round one of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series, the first-ever pro-national held at the famous Loretta Lynn's Ranch. We discussed the track, racing, rookies, and much more. This week we put a bow on the Loretta Lynn's Amateur National and talked about the professionals who start this weekend. The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series will hold the first and only event ever at the Ranch, and Ken Roczen won't be there. We discussed the idea of him sitting out the season and had some ideas as to why it is justified, yet still pisses Cooksey off.
I started seeing Johnny Hopper YouTube videos a year or so ago and loved his sense of humor and brutal honesty. I quickly researched him as I didn't know much about him or how he was qualified to be so critical of certain aspects of the sport. Turns out, much like the "Legend of Joe Dirt," the Johnny Hopper story has many layers. This sport can take raw talent and turn it into broken dreams, and unfortunately, his racing usually ended in heartbreak and disappointment more than glory.
This sport has left more than a few of us broken and disappointed. The industry has a way of turning it's back on anyone who challenges the status quo. Johnny is using his newfound recognition to help make positive changes for the next generation of racers. Take a listen to The Legend of Johnny Hopper!
