The Netflix documentary, ‘Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel’ features an interview with musician and film-maker Pablo Camilo Vergara, aka Morbid.

Morbid, a death metal musician, was falsely accused by amateur internet sleuths as being responsible for the death of 21-year-old Elisa Lam at the notorious Cecil Hotel, Los Angeles - despite evidence that he was in a completely different country (Mexico) at the time.

Accusations were based on his gothic appearance and having visited the Cecil Hotel previously.

Relentless allegations led to Morbid’s social media and financial accounts suspension, countless death threats, and eventually attempting to take his own life.

In this candid interview with Jonathan Gabay of Thought and Leaders, Morbid discusses how people are quick to make assumptions in our web-connected world. Sometimes, such beliefs can lead to horrendous consequences.

Pablo (Morbid) has since created multi-award-winning films, including Necromurder.

The highest instance of cyberbullying in the world occurs in India, where 37 per cent of parents report their child encountering online bullying. 1/5 of young people in the UK have been victims.

Many assume Cyber-bullying is aimed only at children. It affects people of all ages, races, and faiths.

Rishi Sunak has delivered his budget to lift business back onto its feet post-COVID.

The spin doctors at the UK’s Treasury Office have trumpeted Rishi Sunak’s 'ode to redemption' as a “£6bn tax cut for businesses".

A six-month extension period has been announced where rates will be two-thirds of the normal charge, up to a maximum of £2m for closed businesses.

But are such measures too little, too late?

As digital leaves in deepest ever footprint, is the traditional high-street- as we once knew it pre-pandemic - finally dead?

GDP growth forecast for 2021 has been downgraded to 4% (from 5.5%).

Unemployment is expected to peak at 6.5%

By 2023/24, debt is set to crest at 97% of GDP, with government borrowing reaching £335bn in 2021/21. (The highest level since WW2).

Where once stood titan high-street brands, now rest ghosts of shopping empires long-past.

Against this backdrop, can a hybrid of digital and bricks & mortar be a practical solution?

Will ‘experiential’ shopping prove to be the equivalent of a miraculous Pfizer shot in the retail’s arm?

‘On-the-shop-floor’ is a special Thought and Leaders panel discussion of respected retail experts:

Paul Brooks - the man who creates “moments of beauty” for world-renowned brands.

Martin Newman - customer service guru, author and former head of Multichannel operations of some of the world's leading brands.

Susannah Streeter - a highly respected BBC News broadcaster and financial commentator. (Currently Senior Investment and Markets Analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown).

Jonathan Sands - Founder, Co-Owner/Operator of one of London's only privately owned independent Museum's, producing and maintaining the 'Bond in Motion' Exhibition ….Co-Owner/Operator of acclaimed multi-million global entertainment merchandise retail stores.

Today, behind a door of a locked down-home, just miles of where you are now, someone will take their own life.

As we emerge from lockdown-3 to face a world of 'haves' and' have nots', he or she won't be alone.

Charities across the UK are calling the mental health crisis the ‘second pandemic.

In the first six months after lockdown, from March to November 2020, London Ambulance Service recorded 15,541 calls relating to suicide or attempted suicide. That compares to 11,703 calls over the same period in 2019.

The figures do not take into account the most recent, lockdown which many suggest is having an even graver effect on deteriorating mental health.

In this episode of Thought and Leaders, Jonathan Gabay talks to Simon Gunning, CEO of CALM about the rise of suicide rates - especially affecting men.

The discussion covers everything from the threat of unemployment post-COVID-19, expectations on families struggling to cope, the worrying increase in suicide and self-harm within the 16-24 age group, as well as LGBTQ+ community, and much more.

As CEO Simon has overseen CALM transform its brand and operations, and more than double its helpline service provision to reach more people in crisis.

(Latest studies predict that up to 10 million people in England will need new or additional mental health support due to COVID-19).

Prior to CALM, Simon led the digital, marketing and commercial divisions of Virgin Media TV, EMI Music, the BBC, Bacardi and BBH. His time in music has seen him work with some of the most iconic bands and artists of a generation including Black Grape, Elastica, Blur, Bon Jovi, and Michael Hutchins.
