Did you know that rest is a choice?
In Isaiah 30:15–16, God offers His people a powerful invitation:
“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
in quietness and trust shall be your strength.
But you were unwilling…”
So often, we choose hustle over stillness, control over trust. We run hard—only to end up weary, anxious, and empty.
In today’s episode, we’re talking about the kind of rest that only God can give. If your pace feels unsustainable or your soul feels unsettled, this conversation is your invitation to press reset and step into God’s rhythm of grace.

As a doctor, I’ve seen what happens when wounds are left untreated—they don’t just go away. In fact, the longer you wait to deal with an infection, the more dangerous it becomes.
The same is true for the wounds we carry in our hearts.
In today’s episode, we’re diving into Psalm 37 to learn from David—a man who knew pain, betrayal, and hardship. We’ll explore practical wisdom from his life on how to tend to our spiritual wounds before they grow deeper.
If you’re feeling hurt, stuck, or just weary from the battle, this one’s for you.

Do you ever feel like life is just too much? Maybe you’re walking through a trial that won’t let up... Still waiting on a breakthrough... Still praying for answers that haven’t come.
If you’ve ever felt like all hope is lost—you’re not alone.
In Psalm 42, David pours out his heart in a season of deep despair. But even in the darkest moments, he reminds us where true hope is found.
Let’s look at his words together and rediscover the unshakable hope we have in God.

One of the greatest gifts God has given us is the gift of rest, yet most of us are intent on living in the chaos.
Chaos is a typical day in the typical life of the typical Christian. But we can be busy without being chaotic. Our days could be packed and not feel out of control. After all, Jesus was busy. His days were jam-packed with ministry and people and demands.
Our aim isn’t to take a vacation to a peaceful destination and refuse to come back as the means to escape chaos. What is far better is to resolve to find rest in the midst of our chaos. And it all starts when we agree to let go of what we think should happen in our lives and yield to God’s perfect place for us: the place of quiet trust.

Few things will change our world like our resolve to hope when it hurts too much. Few things will radically transform our world like our resolve to believe God when everything screams against Him. Hope has a way of showing up when we’re not looking for it. When it does, anything can happen.

Our culture is facing an endemic of independence and isolationism like never before. With singleness rates as high as 53 percent of the population, we have become accustomed to living on our own. The effects are not only detrimental but counter to God’s plan for us. It will take some serious resolve to choose God’s way of community when we’ve adjusted to being alone. But no decision will impact your world more than the decision to live in community.

Few things will stick out in our culture like the resolve to pursue a lifestyle of giving generously and sacrificially when it’s unexpected, unnecessary, or uncomfortable. Nothing will point to the worth of the Savior more than our willingness to open our hands and give all that we have for the sake of something bigger than we are, more eternal than we’ll ever be, and far more important than our temporary needs.

You and I have a responsibility. We know the way, the truth, and the life. We have been given grace upon grace. We have been loved and accepted and forgiven and set free. Anyone who has come face-to-face with God’s goodness and embraced it knows that we have a duty—even more, a privilege—to share this truth with others.
It’s easier to stay silent. It’s easier to aim for acceptance. It’s easier to hide in the shadows hoping that someone else, somewhere else, will be the one to speak the truth.
But if we really believe what we say we believe, then we have a duty as followers of Jesus Christ to speak the truth when it’s easier not to. Anything less than that is stark disbelief.

Fundamentally, the call to discipleship is a call to yield. It’s a call to self-denial. It’s a call to say “you go first” even when it might be our right to go first.
This is what it means to be a Christian, a fully surrendered follower of Jesus. It’s a radical all-in total takeover of who you are with no turning back. Anything remotely close to this will demand your unwavering resolve and the belief that God is the only treasure worth selling everything for.
If you’re serious about changing your world for Christ, and if you’re serious about living what you say you believe, then it’s time to resolve to yield to God in every detail of your life—in the big things and the small.

One of my favorite sayings is this: Your walk talks and your talk talks, but your walk talks louder than your talk talks. Simply stated, obedience is walking the talk. It’s moving past words to action. It’s actually living out what you say you believe.
What would our world look like if every follower of Jesus Christ resolved to obey God, especially when it’s not popular? How would our world be different if every one of us resolved to live by faith, walking the talk and not just talking the talk, and refused to give in to our personal appetites?
Today is a chance for you to resolve afresh to obey God, no matter what.

Jesus made it clear: the most powerful way to impact the world is by loving others, even when it’s inconvenient, uncomfortable, and messy. (John 13:35)
In a culture that’s self-seeking, the way to stand out is by doing the opposite: to pick up a towel, lean low, and wash feet.
But let’s be real—this kind of love is impossible without first understanding and receiving God’s never-ending love for us. We can’t pour out what we haven’t first received. When we understand God’s love for us, the power of His love can be unleashed through us, transforming our world. This kind of love is unstoppable.
If you’re ready to receive God’s unstoppable love for you especially when you don’t deserve it, so that in turn you can love others, tune in to this episode!

Today I’m launching a 10-part podcast series based on my book Resolved. Ten Ways to Stand Strong and Live What You Believe.
No matter how strong we claim our faith in God is, when life is hard, it all comes down to resolve. Do we really believe what we say we believe? And does what we profess with our lips show up in our everyday actions?
In this series, I’m going to present you with ten topics that every follower of Jesus Christ can boldly put a stake in the ground and say, most confidently, “This I believe!” I hope to help you understand the disconnect between what we say we believe and how we live. I want to give you biblical strategies for change that will allow you to stand strong no matter what.

As Christmas approaches, it’s easy to get swept up in the busyness of the season—decorations, gifts, gatherings. But what if we chose to pause, reflect, and prepare our hearts for the sacred meaning of this time?
In this podcast, I’m sharing a message from Luke 1:26-38, exploring four powerful lessons from Mary’s response to the news of Jesus’ birth. Her example offers us a blueprint for embracing God’s plans with trust and humility in the midst of unexpected circumstances.
This Christmas, let’s intentionally make room for Jesus in our lives, allowing His peace, joy, and love to take root and reign in our hearts.

I believe this word will uplift and remind you of the incredible grace and power of God’s love even in the most unexpected places—our weaknesses, our sins, our doubts.

In today’s episode on Acts 18-19, Paul starts his third missionary journey. When we contrast much of contemporary evangelism with Paul’s, its shallowness shows up.
Our evangelism tends to be focused on simply inviting people to church. Paul also took the gospel out into the secular world. Our evangelism appeals to the emotions for a decision without an adequate basis of understanding. Paul taught, reasoned, and tried to persuade. Our evangelism is superficial, making brief encounters and expecting quick results. Paul stayed in Corinth and Ephesus for 5 years, faithfully sowing gospel seed and in due time reaping a harvest.

In today’s podcast Paul concludes his second missionary journey. As he travels and proclaims the good news of Christ, we see a pattern that Paul follows when he enters each city. His first attempt is to persuade the Jews concerning Jesus. He begins in the synagogue where they meet, study Scripture, and pray. But when the Jews reject his message, he turns to the Gentiles.
The focus of this episode is on what it means to be changed by the Word. Don’t miss it!

God makes no mistakes. The murder of Stephen may have seemed unjust at first, but it would eventually lead to the spread of the gospel to Judea and Samaria. Stephen’s death would also impact the life of Saul in an unforgettable way. In today’s podcast we will look at how God is at work even through difficult circumstances, and how the disciples responded to persecution.

Our life is made up of a series of choices, and our view of God will determine our choices every time. In the second part of Acts 5 we find the apostles facing persecution because of their bold proclamation of the gospel, but undeterred to teach about the Way. They chose to “obey God rather than man” and rather suffer unjustly than to dishonor the name of Jesus. What tends to motivate your behavior: the fear and love of God, or the fear of men?

Acts 5 vividly portrays the raw and unfiltered early days of the Church. The harsh repercussions faced by Ananias and Sapphira highlight the importance of truth within the Christian community, and fear of God grips the entire church and all who hear about these events.

We’re continuing the Upside Down Series with five key takeaways from Acts 3, which narrates the healing of a lame beggar by Peter and his delivery of a compelling sermon to the spectators.Peter and John know where their strength lay: in the name of Jesus. At the name of Jesus every name will bow, every tongue will confess, the past is forgotten, the future is secure, access is granted, sins are forgiven, the Bible is alive, peace is certain, prayers are granted, temptation is defeated, healing is accomplished, Satan is destroyed, fear is dispelled, death is overcome, captives are set free, the blind see, the lame walk, the hurting heal, unity is possible, life is granted, and God is glorified. Are you living in the power of that name?

Are you hurting and find yourself turning to whatever it takes to quiet the ache inside?
You’re not alone. We’re all broken, lonely people in need of love and affirmation, but what if instead of seeing our pain as something to be numbed, we’d let it awaken us to what we really need – intimacy with God?
In this podcast episode you’ll hear a conversation with Ainsley Britain where I share my story of writing Don’t Tell Anyone You’re Reading This. My hope and prayer are that God will use my brokenness and my story to help you step out of your dark tunnel into the light.
It’s time to see your ache as an invitation to depend on Jesus and rest in His unconditional love for you!

Do you struggle with sexual temptation?
Is there any area of sin in your life that keeps you from experiencing intimacy with Jesus?
Do you deal with continual bouts of shame and guilt because you fail in certain aspects of your life?
Have you ever shared your struggles with anyone?
Do you have a secret, a part of your life that you hope nobody will discover?
Chris Fabry said, Don’t Tell Anyone You’re Reading This is one of the most vulnerable books I have ever read, and when you’re vulnerable, you give others permission to be real, honest, open, and allow them to feel less alone in their struggle. This is what Lina Abujmara does in her new book – she encourages and helps you to come out of hiding and experience the freedom, healing, and joy that are yours in Christ.
On today’s podcast you will hear a conversation with Chris Fabry that I believe will help you understand what’s at the root of your struggles and how to change. (This interview aired on Oct. 26 on Moody Radio.)

Throughout the holiday season, we're featuring some special content on The Hope Podcast.
Today, I’m sharing with you a sermon I recently gave at Bethel College titled Is it worth the fight? In it, I’m addressing what I have learned about healthy sexuality, faithful Christianity, and the ache in my heart.
Please give it a listen! This episode will challenge you to deal with what happens in the secret places of your heart and lead you to the One who heals and enables us to walk in freedom and without shame.
P.S. For more on the topic, get a copy of my new book Don’t Tell Anyone You’re Reading This – an honest and vulnerable discussion on why Christians still struggle with sin in the form of a memoir by a Christian doctor, me.
“Why can’t I stop doing what I know as a follower of Jesus that I shouldn’t be doing?
Why are so many of us unable to control what we so naively thought we could?
Here’s a thought: what if we fail in controlling our sexual sin not because we can’t control it, but because we like it? What if the reason we keep going back to the place that we hate and do the things we abhor is that deep down, doing what we hate makes us feel better about what our deeper problem is?
What if we’re just going about it all wrong?”
In today's episode of The Hope Podcast, you'll have the opportunity to listen to the second chapter of my book Don't Tell Anyone You're Reading This.
Give it a listen, share it on your social media, and make sure to delve into the book if you haven't had the chance yet.

In today's episode, you'll have the opportunity to hear the introduction and the first chapter of my latest book, Don't Tell Anyone You're Reading This. As Janet wrote, “I think this book is a must read for anyone dealing with shame and a longing for healing, whether the struggle is of a sexual nature or something else that has become an idol in one’s life.”
Give it a listen, share it on your social media, and make sure to delve into the book if you haven't had the chance yet.
In a culture immersed in all things sexual, the battle for godliness is real. It's time to take an honest look at our competing desires and eliminate anything that stands in our way of intimacy with Christ.

One of the greatest battles we encounter as followers of Christ is the struggle against unbelief.
When our prayers go seemingly answered, when we don’t see the results we hoped for, when life hurls one curveball after another, we’re tempted to succumb to fear, disappointment, and to forget who is on our side.
In Hebrews chapter 3, the author is making a point that one of the most effective ways to fight unbelief is to consider Jesus, to think carefully about Him (Hebrews 3:1). By considering Him we will come to the realization that He is faithful, and that is all the confidence we need in the face of anything that comes our way.
If you’re going through a difficult time today, this episode will help remind you of God’s faithfulness to His people, always. Won’t you trust that He will be faithful to you as well?

Today we’re continuing The Confidence Series with a look at Hebrews chapter 2 where we will recognize another reason we can be confident: because God is in control.
Much like us today, the early Christian believers were living in tumultuous times. They confronted injustice, endured suffering, and grappled with a sense of uncertainty, all of which tempted them to forsake their faith.
In this context, the author of Hebrews reminds them, and us, that even when things look messy, when life is challenging, and our suffering seems to have no end, God is in control, and we can freely trust Him!
Our confidence does not hinge on our immediate circumstances but is rooted in the One who holds the entirety of the universe and its unfolding history in His hands.
Whatever difficulties you might be facing today, this podcast will encourage you to look to Him and find the confidence to go on.

How do we navigate times of adversity victoriously? What do we need to stand unshaken in a rapidly changing culture? How do we replace our insecurities with immovable faith? How do we overcome disappointments and experience stability in the most unpredictable of times?
The author of Hebrews knows the answer—CONFIDENCE in God. Writing to a people living in turbulent times, challenged to reconcile the victorious Christian life with the trials they were facing and tempted to abandon their faith completely, the author of Hebrews urges believers to remain confident because of the things they know to be true about God.
I believe that now, more than ever, we need to become more God-confident and to remain steadfast in our resolve to follow Christ.

Have you ever felt restless or dissatisfied, despite having success, possessions, or even fulfilling relationships?
God has placed within each of us a holy discontent, a stirring, a desire for something more. It's a longing that cannot be satisfied by anything else but a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.
In today’s podcast we’ll look at Revelation 22 and delve into God’s invitation to us, the blessings that are still to come to those who seek Him, as well as learn how to cultivate a desire for more of God.
Hey, we’ll take a break from podcasting for the rest of August, but I can’t wait to share what’s next on the Hope Podcast!
Until then, may your thirst be quenched by the living water that is Jesus Christ.

Life often presents us with trials, doubts, and circumstances that challenge the very core of our beliefs. In these moments, it's natural to question if our faith truly holds any weight.
The lineup of men and women from Hebrews 11 certainly understand the struggle in our heart, and the way they responded to adversity, unfairness, confusion, or God’s silence, serves as a timeless guide for us during our most trying times.
So, grab your headphones, open your heart, and listen to today’s podcast because I believe your doubt will meet purpose and your uncertainty will meet hope.

What’s your relationship with failure like? Where do you see yourself as a failure and how have you responded to that failure?
John 21 is one of my favorite stories in the Bible. Here we encounter how Jesus responded to Peter after what was probably his biggest failure yet – the denial of Jesus before His crucifixion.
Instead of scolding him, Jesus loves him and points him to his purpose and calling.
I believe today’s podcast will bring you hope and remind you that your failure is not the end of your story, but perhaps the pathway for future ministry.

How has your year been so far?
Maybe you’ve gone through some circumstances that have left you questioning and confused. Maybe not a lot has turned out as anticipated and the losses and tensions you have felt, have left you discouraged. Maybe you might find it difficult to be grateful this time of the year. Trust me, I understand.
But I believe this podcast will open our eyes to see that we can trust God’s goodness and faithfulness even in the darkest of times; that we can stand strong no matter what, full of gratitude, even when things don’t go our way (Acts 6–7).
Take a listen and share it with someone in need of encouragement.

This teaching from John 11 – the raising of Lazarus – will help you understand that God is at work in the delays of our lives, fulfilling His greater purposes in what looks like impossible circumstances.
Don’t miss this podcast! I believe your faith will grow stronger as you encounter a God who can work out the resurrection you’re praying for in your life.

Have you ever placed your trust in God, hoping for a positive outcome, only to feel let down?
In Matthew 11, John the Baptist’s story looked like it ended badly from a human perspective. Here was an individual whom Jesus considered to be the greatest among all men (Mat. 11:11) stuck in prison, hoping to be delivered, only to be beheaded instead.
From the viewpoint of God, John's final outcome was intricately designed with divine purpose, his life was profoundly meaningful, and his calling was successfully carried out.
We too can sometimes misunderstand God’s ways and methods, but they are always for our good and for His glory. If you feel disappointed, weary, or perplexed, today’s podcast will encourage you to trust God’s purposes even when His ways feel hurtful or confusing.

Sometimes we don’t know how things are going to turn out in our life.
In Daniel 3 we encounter three men—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—facing a situation where their fate hangs precariously between potential salvation and possible demise. Regardless of the outcome, will they remain obedient to God?
When we find ourselves in that space where the outcome looks “iffy” at best, God is asking us to make certain decisions that will allow us to stand unshaken in our faith, knowing that obedience will not guarantee us the outcome we might want, but God’s faithful and abiding presence.

Being a Christian will inevitably create some dissonance with our culture and pressure to fit in.
What do we do when we’re asked to say and do things that are contrary to the guidelines of Scripture? Will we choose what’s popular or what’s true? Will we choose temporary comfort or eternal joy? Will we choose pleasing man or pleasing God?
In today’s podcast we'll look at Daniel chapter 1 and learn from this man what it means to obey God in a shifting culture when it's easier to blend in.

There are so many things that can weigh down on us and steal our hope, things like our present problems, our worries and fears, our glaring loneliness, our deep disappointments, or our failures and unmet expectations.
In Lamentations 3 we find a powerful example of a man who had all the reasons to despair and yet proclaimed “‘The Lord is my portion’, says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him’” (v. 24).
Take a listen to today’s podcast and see how God’s goodness is being made manifest in our life even when it seems like all hope is lost.

As we look at a man accustomed with pain and loneliness in today’s podcast, I believe our perspective on the difficult seasons of our life will change.
Job’s response to the pain in his life will encourage us to look at our difficult circumstances through the lens of who God is and see that the best days are yet to come because we serve a God who is good, faithful, who sets the seasons of our life and who appoints that which concerns us.
May we, like Job, declare in the midst of our pain that “when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold.” – Job 23:10

Do you have a God-given dream? Why does God take His time to fulfill the dream He’s put on your heart? Why does your dream bring with it deep opposition?
In Nehemiah 1 we encounter a man who has a dream that is bigger than himself and impossible to accomplish without God. As we look at this story, we will learn from Nehemiah what it takes to accomplish God-seized dreams.
As you listen to this episode, my prayer is that the Lord will awaken in you those dreams that feel too big, too daring, and that demand your faith in His greatness.

Are you surrounded by an enemy who seems too strong for you? Do you feel overwhelmed by fear in the face of your trials? Do you struggle to believe that God is good when you can’t see Him clearly at work in your life?
The way we respond to the battles we’re facing is often influenced by what we choose to focus on. Do we look at the obvious enemy or at the spiritual reality of who is with us? Do we fix our eyes on what is visible or on God and His promises, no matter how things look on the outside?
Listen to today’s podcast on 2 Kings 6 and find out how Elisha could remain confident in the face of an undefeatable enemy and how you too can stand strong in faith no matter what.

While we might not like to be in need and unable to fix our problems, it is in those moments that if we turn to God, He can come through and do what only He can do.
I believe we all have areas in our life where we desperately need a miracle. In 2 Kings 4:1-7 we encounter a widow who knew that her only chance to get out of her difficult circumstance was a miracle. This episode will show us why and how she was able to experience God at work in a powerful way.
I hope this podcast will remind you of who God is and invite you to believe Him for the miracle you need.

What in your life looks like it’s drying up right now?
Are you confused when the obedience in your life leads to suffering?
What is God doing in us when he allows us to go through difficult seasons?
In today’s podcast we will see how God is at work through our greatest struggles to make us into the persons He can entrust with greater power and kingdom impact.

Today we’re returning to a teaching series on unshaken faith where we look at stories of men and women in the Bible who in the midst of their trials learned to stand unshaken no matter what. (You can listen to previous episodes here).
Have you ever felt God’s will to be confusing in your life? How do you respond when you start out thinking God has called you to something and things don’t end up turning out like you thought they would?
Look with me today to David’s story in 1 Samuel 22 and see that although God’s will might look confusing sometimes, He is constant, steady, in control and is simply using the pain and disappointment in our life to propel us to the next chapter in our story.

We all face overwhelming circumstances in our life that make us feel afraid, trapped, helpless, uncertain if we can make it much longer.
Do you feel like your problems are bigger than your abilities? Does it seem like your enemies are stronger than your allies? Are your emotions heavier that you can process?
King Jehoshaphat can relate. In 2 Chronicles 20 we’re told about the time when he got news about an army coming against him and his people, an army he knew he could not win against on his own. He felt overwhelmed, and rightly so. But his response in this situation is remarkable and teaches us some powerful truths about how to deal with our own challenges.
Take a listen to today’s podcast, and may you be reminded of who is with you, and that you are not powerless when your eyes are on God (2 Chron. 20:12).

depend as much on our own abilities than on God’s calling and presence with us.

The desert seasons are common in the Christian life. In fact, a careful look at Scripture reveals that no one was mightily used by God until that person became deeply acquainted with the desert.
In Hebrews 11 we encounter several men and women who faced incredibly difficult circumstances, yet they were not moved to despair by the things they faced in this world.
These desert fathers and mothers remind us of some principles that will help us see the desert not as a place to escape from but as God’s intentional place to accomplish His purposes in us.
Take a listen! Hope is awakened as we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.

As long as we live in corruptible bodies, we’re going to face the desert of temptation. Sometimes we’re even going to stumble. The greatest saints have despaired over their propensity toward temptation even in their old days.
Even so, we don’t have to throw in the towel and simply give in. Jesus modeled for us how to battle temptation and live victoriously, and we are called to follow His example.
In today’s podcast I invite you to learn and apply four habits that will help you overcome the desert of temptation. I can’t wait for you to listen to this episode!ABOUT:

One of the most common deserts we go through is the desert of God’s silence.
What do we do when we get a sense that God has forgotten us, leaving us feeling isolated and confused? What do we do when we’ve felt stuck in a spiritual desert for such a long time, we have begun to doubt God exists at all? What do we do when God is silent?
Today’s podcast will remind you that although God might be silent, He is not absent. And although He might fail to respond in the way and timing we desire, He is inviting us to a walk of trust and submission to His ways.

Community and connection are no longer a given. We’re living in an era where our work, “social life,” relationships, and even church is done on a device. We don’t reach out to, relate to, or do life together, in person, with others any longer.
We can blame it on Instagram, TikTok, Covid, church leadership failure, or simply cultural influences, but there is no doubt that more and more people feel lonely even as we’re more “connected” than ever before.
How do we navigate the desert of community as believers, knowing that community is what we were created for, but also realizing the real challenges to building community nowadays?
Find out in this podcast episode in our Desert series!

We cannot live in a broken world and not feel grief. Grief is deep sorrow that is a response to loss and pain, and it’s an emotion we’d rather escape. But Jesus himself was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, and we can learn from Him that we can grieve and still hold on to hope.
If you’re facing painful circumstances in your life right now, if you struggle to express and deal with painful emotions, or if you wonder how to respond to suffering in a healthy and biblical way, please don’t miss this podcast episode!
Fear is one of the most common negative emotions common to humans and it shows up in a lot of different flavors: we feel worried, anxious, tense, scared, afraid, terrified, panicked, nervous, uneasy, uptight.
Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or a threat.
Don’t you wish you could shake it?
While we can’t eradicate fear until Christ returns, we can learn to handle it rightly respond to it biblically. Take a listen!

What if God gave us our emotions, even our negative emotions to deepen our relationship with Him?
Today I’m launching a new podcast series called I Feel That: Embracing a Biblical Response to My Negative Emotions that I believe will help you engage your emotions in a healthy way and find the freedom you’re longing for.ABOUT:

In celebration of the Christmas holiday, I’m sharing a bonus episode about Mary and how her example of faith teaches us how to respond when God’s will sounds kinda crazy.
God may have asked you to do something that doesn’t fall in line with what the culture and everyone else is doing. Maybe His calling on your life does not seem like the most logical thing to do. That certainly was the case for Mary, but she believed “that there would bea fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”
Does that describe you today? Are you believing what God has promised? Are you making decisions based on other’s approval, or on the word, character, and faithfulness of God?
Today we’re so excited to share with you this bonus episode about how to be there for your kids when they’re hurting.
Diana and I are going to talk about how to ask heart/hard questions, how to create space for connecting with them, how to speak truth to them even when they might not want to hear it, how to plan for changes, how to try to understand them and their pain, how to help them learn to take wise decisions, and more.
We cannot protect our children from hurt, but we can teach them to trust Jesus when life is its hardest, listen to them, and guide them by example.
In today’s conversation with my sister Diana, we’ll consider some of the trends and pressures of our culture around the Christmas season, how to maintain a biblical perspective about giving but also be practical and wise about our budget, and how to battle materialism during the holidays.
If you’ve ever felt stressed about gifts, money, and expectations during the holidays, this podcast is your you!
Grab a pen, you’re going to want to take notes!

For the next seven weeks I’m inviting my sister Diana Sahakian to conversations about life around the holiday season. Holidays can be a challenging time for many reasons, but what if we could address those difficulties from a biblical and practical perspective so that we can learn to navigate them better, and experience more peace and joy?
That’s our hope with this podcast series called Soul Sisters! To ignite your hope and stir you towards Christlikeness even through the holiday challenges.
Today we’ll kick off with a conversation about loneliness at holidays and we’re going to answer some weighty questions like What is loneliness? Is loneliness a heart issue or a circumstantial issue? Does business contribute to loneliness? Can we get ourselves out of loneliness?
Don’t miss! You’re going to see that we can deal with loneliness in a constructive way.
What do you feel when you think about aging? Resistance? Anxiety? Hopelessness? Disorientation?
Most people associate negative emotions with the aging of our bodies. Granted, aging has its difficulties, but a look at what the Scripture says about old age is in fact comforting. God’s word is good news also for the aging, encouraging us to fix our eyes on a God who always cares for us (Isaiah 46:4), and filling us with hope for the bright future Christ has for us.
Take a listen to today’s podcast where I answer this question: Dear Lina, I’m struggling with the aging process both physically and emotionally. What are some Biblical ways to handle aging in a godly manner?
Caring for elderly parents can be a challenging season in emotional, practical, and financial ways, and there is no ‘one size fits all’ guide to teach us how to balance this act.
Does the Bible speak to this situation? What is the right way to handle the aging of one’s parents? What if we didn’t have good relationship with our parents? Are we doing enough? What about my own life goals and responsibilities?
These are just a few of the questions I’ll address in today’s podcast. I believe this is a topic that we need to pay more attention to because we know how deeply God cares for those who cannot care for themselves. Take a listen!
Many people believe that the way to a more confident, free, whole, and happy life is to love ourselves. In fact, some Christians think Jesus said you must love yourself before you can love others (Matthew 22:39).
Is self-love a biblical concept and if so, how do I do it?
In today’s podcast I invite you on a journey of defining this ambiguous concept and exploring what the Bible has to say about it. Let us prayerfully discern if self love is the message of the culture or of Jesus.
Have you ever been asked that question? Have you ever asked that question yourself?
Many Christians believe that Jesus died and rose again for our salvation but have no personal experience of the love of God. Perhaps our own shortcomings, insecurities, struggles with identity, and false measures we use to determine our value make us question how God could love someone like us.
In today’s podcast I invite you to discover some of the wrong assumptions about God’s love and how to undoubtedly know how valuable and loved you are by your Creator.
It can be difficult to “evangelize” those who are closest to us, especially when we’ve repeatedly shared the gospel with them, and it can be too easy to believe that our loved ones will never change. But today I’m here to remind you to not lose heart, and to not give in to the lie that your spouse, child, neighbor, or friend will never come to know Jesus. Keep walking a walk that reflects your Savior, keep patiently speaking as you have opportunity, keep praying for God to move on their hearts, and keep loving them with the love of Jesus. In his podcast, listen to three practical ways you can influence your unsaved loved ones to Jesus!
Friend, we’re living in an age plagued by business and digital distractions, and it is easy to drift away from the godliness that God insists should characterize His people. Any Christian genuinely seeking to please God will struggle with being consistent in their walk with God.
It is true that we can’t accomplish the Christian life on our own, and we need God’s work in us to capture our hearts and enable us to live the extraordinary life Jesus promised, but I also believe that we are called to make a conscious and continuous effort to stand steadfast in faith.
Listen in to today’s podcast and hear about three postures that will help you become more consistent in your Christian life!
Someone recently asked me:
Dear Lina, can the bond of Christ ever be broken? In other words, is it possible to lose my salvation?
I understand the wrestling with this question. We read of people in the Bible like Demas, Hymenaeus, or Alexander, who started out well but ended up making a shipwreck of their faith (1 Tim 1:19-20). Does this mean they lost their salvation? Can we ever have an assurance of our salvation?
Join me in today’s podcast as we turn again to the Scripture for insight and guidance. I believe we’ll find comfort and encouragement in it pages but also a call to persevere in the faith.
In today’s podcast I will address a question that has great implications for how to increasingly live in the character and power of Christ.
Dear Lina, what are the spiritual disciplines and why do I need them? Also, how do I do them?
If you’re wondering how to victoriously fight sin in your life, if you feel like your appetite for God needs to be re-awakened, if you’re looking for that freedom and joy that come from finding your pleasure in God, or if you’re longing to really become more Christ-like, then you need to learn and grow in practicing the spiritual disciplines.
Have you ever wondered what’s behind our sinful patterns? Why does sin have such a hold on us? Why does an all-powerful God seem powerless to change us?
In today’s podcast I will address a significant question believers wrestle with: Dear Lina, why can’t I overcome sin in my life?
If you’re stuck in a cycle of sin that has caused you to doubt whether you even know God, you’re not alone. But the good news is that as Christians we can break free from the entrapment of habitual sin and live in the reality of God’s grace and the enabling power of God’s Spirit.
I’m so excited to launch today a new podcast series called Bread and Butter Christianity! In this series I’m going to address topics that are the bread and butter of Christianity with the aim to equip us to navigate life and culture from a Christian perspective in this post-Christian world.
In today’s episode I’m going to answer a critically important question about our salvation:
Dear Lina: How can I tell if I’m really saved?
This week we are celebrating the one-year anniversary of my book Fractured Faith and I’m incredibly grateful and moved by how God has used my experience with church hurt and the near deconstruction of my faith to breathe hope into hurt and revive souls.
In today’s podcast I’m sharing an interview I recently recorded with Pat Williams on his radio show The Power Hour, where we briefly discuss each chapter of Fractured Faith and the intent behind the book.
Whether you read the book already or not, this episode will inspire you to trust God in the middle of your story and challenge you to see more clearly the spiritual realities that are worth fighting for.

Today’s podcast about how David won the victory over Goliath (1 Samuel 17) will reveal some powerful truths that we can apply to our lives and that will equip us to fight our battles unshaken in our faith and unintimidated by the enemy.
In this podcast episode in our Unshaken series, we’ll be looking at the calling of David out of obscurity and anonymity to be anointed as the next king of Israel.
You might feel hidden, insignificant, and even forgotten, but it is the waiting time that God uses as the training ground for your future. Will you worship, believe God, and submit to His ways in your years of obscurity like David did?
Have you ever felt caught in a cycle of besetting sin and felt unable to change? Have you ever wondered why we tend to go back to habits that we know will destroy us? What do you think will motivate us to give up our sinful ways for God’s ways?
In today’s podcast we’ll look at the story of Samson and learn how devastating it can be to deal lightly with sin. Yet, God’s love and grace are available to us the moment we call on Him, and His invitation is to trust that living in obedience to His ways is the abundant, good life we are looking for.
There is always hope in Christ! Take a listen to this message and share it with someone who might need encouragement.
Do you struggle with disbelief? Do you feel confused by the hardships in your life? Do your past experiences or failures paralyze you into inaction? The story of Gideon and how God used him mightily despite his lack of confidence will surely encourage you today! Please listen to this podcast!
If you’ve been a believer for some time, you are probably well accustomed with the story of the fall of Jericho in Joshua 6. God brought an incredible and miraculous victory for his people, and the long-awaited promise to enter a land flowing with milk and honey finally starts to be materialized.
But before this victory takes place there is a pause in chapter 5 that can be easily missed. God is stopping his people and requires them to prepare spiritually for what’s about to happen.
From this passage we can grasp that before experiencing fresh victories in our lives, there are three things that need to happen first. Take a listen!
Every now and then we find ourselves at a crossroad. A crossroad is a diverging road, giving you the option to go one way or another. You may find yourself at a relationship crossroad, a professional crossroad, a health-related crossroad, and you’re not sure which way to go.
What do we do when we face the unknown, a new beginning, or a scary change?
Listen to this Podcast episode in our #Unshaken series and learn some principles for when you’re at a crossroad.
In Numbers 13 we find that twelve men were sent out to spy the Promised Land and come back with two perspectives of the situation. The majority acknowledge that the land is fruitful but it’s impossible to take because it’s occupied by powerful people, while they seem like grasshoppers in comparison (Num. 13:33). Two men however, Caleb and Joshua, believe the promise and power of God to bring them into the Promise Land, in spite of any difficulty. It turns out, all of them experienced exactly what they confessed.
Have you ever faced a situation where what God had promised looked ridiculous at best? In today’s podcast you will learn about the power of perspective, the importance of what you are focusing on, and what makes the difference between trusting God and complaining against Him.
Have you ever felt unsure about God’s plans in your life? Have you sensed a calling but don’t quite see how it’s going to happen? Or do you simply feel insecure because of past failures and stopped dreaming for God?
Moses’ story will encourage you to overcome your painful places, believe in God’s ability to fulfill His purposes with you no matter your past, and trust God’s leading as you learn to know His presence. Don’t miss this podcast!
Are there any areas in your life right now where you feel stuck? In today’s episode in the Unshaken podcast series, we'll take a look at Joseph's story in Genesis 37 and 39 and learn the secret to his successful life with God in spite of being stuck in a series of unfortunate and undeserved events.
What are you most afraid of in your life?
In Genesis 32 we encounter Jacob facing his greatest fear – the fear of meeting his estranged brother Esau and suffer his wrath for having exploited him on two occasions. In the middle of this darkest of nights, Jacob comes to the realization that the only place to wrestle with his fears and find breakthrough is in prayer. And as he wrestles, he learns that his fear is overcome when he allows God to bring him to a place of brokenness and surrender.
If you feel paralyzed by fear, you too are called to draw closer to God and trust that even when you feel like you can’t hang on to God anymore, He’s got his hold on you.
In today’s podcast in our Unshaken series, you will be reminded that we serve a God of miracles, of the impossible, a God who keeps His promises, and who sometimes delays not in order to frustrate us but to help us grow our faith in Him and then pass on that faith to future generations. Don’t miss this teaching from Genesis 16 and 18 on the life of Sarah!
In Genesis 12 we find God calling a man, Abram, to leave his country and family and follow Him instead to “the land that I will show you.” Without the complete roadmap for his future, Abram responds in faith and becomes an example of what it means to trust God with our lives, even when we can’t see the way.
Please take a listen to this podcast episode in our Unshaken series. You will find the fuel to go on in your faith journey.
(The Unshaken podcast series is about standing strong in faith no matter what. We are looking at how men and women in the Bible learned to grow stronger in their faith through the insurmountable trials they were facing.)
When looking at the stories of men and women in the Bible I noticed that every one of them faced insurmountable trials and were prone to fear and discouragement. Yet somehow in the midst of their trials their faith rose. They grew strong no matter the circumstances. They learned to stand unshaken no matter what.
That’s the kind of life I want, and I suspect it’s what you want too.
In this podcast summer series, I invite you to listen to teachings on unshaken faith. I believe you’re going to find strength – God’s strength which is made perfect in our weaknesses.
Today we’re going to look at the story found in Genesis 3 and learn how to stand unshaken when we lose sight of all we have.
Have you ever wondered why Jesus spoke more about money than about any other subject? I believe it was because he knew how dangerous and enslaving money can be and that ultimately, He cannot have our hearts if money is governing us. Thus, he gave clear warnings and practical instructions about how to steward our finances.
This is what we intend to do in this episode – give practical and biblical advice about how to deal with money in a way that helps us to experience the freedom to serve God whole-heartedly.

We are living in an age where business, efficiency, and accomplishments are celebrated. But ultimately our fast-pace lifestyle and expectations to keep up with everything will lead to negative results, including anxiety, lack of deep relationships, and burnout.

We can all agree, we are living in a rage age. Whether on the road, on social media, in political discourse, in the church or among friends, it seems we have lost the virtues of kindness, humility, and self-control, and replaced them with accepting, respecting, and even encouraging outbursts of emotion in the name of being “right.”
But a quick search about what the Scripture says about anger will point out that anger is not the way of a Christ-follower, not even when clearly wronged.
On today’s podcast we will talk about how to become counter-cultural when it comes to rage, how to recognize righteous anger from sinful anger, how to change and be Spirit-led, and how to harness anger for positive action.

Many people in the U.S. are struggling right now with feeling disconnected from the church.
The reasons might be many. Maybe because of COVID, maybe because our way of life changed to a much more virtual reality, maybe because the state of affairs in the church has been troubled for some time, or maybe because we disengaged from the church.
How shall we recognize the cause of our disconnection from the church and how can we find the remedy?
Friend, I will frame today’s episode by asking three questions I’d like you to consider as you think about your relationship to your local church. I trust this will be helpful and encouraging!
On today’s podcast I’ll be answer this question from one of our listeners: Dear Lina, lately I’ve noticed that Christian leaders have pointed to role models in The Bachelorette. I’m confused. Is The Bachelorette consistent with godly character or virtues?
Have you ever wondered what the closed doors in your life mean and what you are supposed to do when facing them? Thankfully the Scripture is full of examples of closed doors in the face of obedience, and I believe they can help us frame our understanding of how to view the closed doors in our lives.
All of us wonder at some point why difficult things happen when a loving God is in control or when His word promises so many blessings in this life, and it’s easy to question God’s favor or if He even cared when we go through sufferings.
But to associate God’s favor only with the good things in our life is a form of prosperity gospel that must be rooted out of our thinking. Take a listen!
If you’re wondering why God is silent, what to do in seasons of waiting, or how to recognize if God is speaking, you’ve come to the right place! This podcast will encourage you to take God up on His promise that He will answer when we call upon Him, but also to welcome seasons of silence as meaningful tools God uses for our growth.
Today’s topic might be a sensitive one but a necessary call to pay attention to what kind of messages we expose ourselves to and discern if and when it’s our responsibility to speak up and how to do it God’s way.
In today’s podcast I’ll address a politically oriented question in the hopes that it would shift our focus to the main message and mission of the church rather than political debate, and that it would prompt unity among believers rather than polarization.
As usual, in this podcast I invite you to think biblically about discipleship and challenge you to become a Christ follower who makes disciples no matter the context.
In today’s #DearLina podcast series I’ll address another difficult topic that I believe will challenge us to assess if our values and behaviors are influenced by our cultural stance or the biblical model.
The Bible has a lot to say about Christians living in societies where unjust treatment is to be expected and how to handle hostility in a way worthy of God’s kingdom and testimony.
While all of us might approach this subject with already formed opinions, I peaceably invite you to listen to this podcast where I answer this question from three perspectives that I believe will help and give clarity to anyone who is trying to do the right thing amidst the Covid vaccine controversy:
Politics can put a powerful wedge between people and it’s troublesome to see how Christians engage in political discourse today with the same vitriol and contempt as the rest of the world.
In this #DearLina episode I’ll give you three ideas to help frame how to have political discussions characterized by biblical values.
We’re living in a climate that is not very friendly to Jesus and Christianity. Our culture is verbal, angry, attacking, judging, and strongly opinionated, and it has become a challenge to know how to share the gospel with our neighbors. Take a listen to today’s podcast where I will address this relevant question from a listener.
In this podcast Lina will answer a question from a listener that will help you at the start of a new year!
Dear Lina, as the new year begins, I feel cynical about setting Bible reading goals because I always fail very quickly into the year. What are some ways I can grow spiritually in the coming year, and do they have to include a regular Bible reading plan?
I know this Christmas season can be an extraordinarily busy time packed with last minute preparations and shopping but let me encourage you to take a moment and listen to a brief Christmas message based on Luke 2 that will remind us why we always have a reason to rejoice.
Many things could have stolen Mary’s and Joseph’s peace when entrusted with the birth of Jesus. Uncertainty, fear, misunderstanding, confusion, shame, were all emotions they must have felt. And yet, when we read their story, we find two people completely at peace in the midst of uncanny circumstances. What was it that allowed them to experience such peace and how can we too have this kind of peace no matter the circumstances?
Much of the Christmas story is the story of longing, of waiting on God, of crying out to Him to come and fulfill His promises. But waiting can challenge our faith, question if we heard God clearly, and make us wonder whether our longings are too lofty and far-fetched.
In today’s podcast come with me to Luke 1:5-24 and encounter a God who can bring life out of the most barren places. This is session one in a 3-week Advent series called Come Alive This Christmas. Take a listen. It’s time to come alive in your expectations!
Is there anything in your life right now that is so difficult that you're thinking about quitting? Friend, no matter what painful circumstances you might be facing, today I’m here to tell you “Don’t quit!”
Listen to this sermon I recently gave at my church on Mark 5:21–43, about the story of the woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. As we look into this passage, we will discover four reasons why you should never quit.
One of the factors that lead to deconstruction is the discrepancy we often see between what people profess to believe and what they actually practice. In today’s podcast I invite you to listen to a conversation with Jeff Lockyer, Lead Pastor of Southridge Community Church, about how to reclaim the way of Jesus in our personal lives and in the life of our local churches, so that people would run to Him instead of from Him. DON’T MISS this one!
As we’ve been having conversations around deconstruction, church hurt, and disillusionment in the Christian walk, it became evident that deconstruction does not have to lead to a turning away from God, faith, or the church. God is still at work in all our stories, healing the wounded, restoring the broken, and rebuilding community.
Today, tune in to hear some hopeful words from Ron Zappia, pastor of Highpoint Church, for the believer, the church, and for you who might have left or are considering leaving the Christian faith.
Today is a real treat for anyone who needs some hope in their journey of finding healing from woundedness by the hands of other Christians. Karl Clauson, pastor at 180 Chicago Church and Host at Karl & Crew Mornings, understands all about church pain as he himself went through a devastating experience with a church he was pastoring. The story of God's faithfulness, restoration, and continued provision will encourage you to lean on the Lord and believe Him to lead you into all His purposes for your life, including a supporting and genuine community of believers.
In today’s podcast you are going to meet one of my good old friends, Connie Koo. As a former member of a mega church that went through a public scandal, we reflect on her faith journey throughout her experience and how it affected her current relationship with the church.
In today’s Fractured Faith Book Launch series, we’re going to look at deconstruction from a different perspective. Questioning beliefs or practices that are popular but not necessarily biblical can lead to a deconstruction that, although painful, can bring about a faith that is grounded in what Jesus taught rather than Western Christianity and a faith that reflects His character more.
Don't miss today's podcast with my friend Carlos Rodríguez, founder of The Happy NPO.
Today’s conversation in our Fractured Faith Book Launch series is with my friend Wendy Alsup, author of Companions in Suffering and Practical Theology for Women.
As the former Women’s Ministry Director at Mars Hill, Wendy has lived through church hurt and disillusionment with church leadership but has also come to the confidence that Scripture can be trusted, that God is a God of justice, and that we can reengage with a healthy community of believers.
In this podcast conversation with Dr. Wade Mullen we’ll address some questions many of us have been asking lately about church and corrupt leadership:
In this conversation with professor, author, and speaker Karen Swallow Prior, you will hear us talk about:
Today I’m continuing our podcast series focused on Fractured Faith with a conversation with Julie Roys, a veteran investigative reporter and founder of The Roys Report.
Toxic church leadership and unhealthy church systems often lead to hurt, disillusionment with the Christian life, deconstruction, and even a total abandonment of the Christian faith. What hope is there for the church in this era? What would it look like for us to confront sin and yet weep over it and reflect the graceful heart of Jesus? How can we find and become communities of believers that are kingdom oriented, striving to pass on the faith to the next generations?
Today I’m launching a new podcast series focused on my new book Fractured Faith and for the next couple of weeks I’ll be sharing with you some encouraging conversations with people who might have experienced some form of deconstruction, faith crisis, or have gone through church hurt. To kick off this podcast series I will be reading to you today the introduction to the book, called My Story. This is a short episode that I believe will touch anyone and everyone.
Today is a unique, fun episode! Diana, my sister and our Director of Operations is interviewing me with a Q&A session about Fractured Faith.
I believe you’ll enjoy and benefit from this talk as I will be sharing my heart behind my new book and answer questions I received from our followers.
In today’s podcast I will share the story behind my new book Fractured Faith: Finding Your Way Back to God in an Age of Deconstruction (Moody Publishers, Releasing Sept. 7).
This book is for everyone who has ever longed to know God in such a way that the choices of others no longer interrupt their worship. And if that’s already happened, you’ll see you’re not alone as you sort through and manage the pain.
In this podcast I want to share with you three lies we believe that can lead to the deconstruction of our faith – the process that happens when a person asks questions that lead to the dismantling of their previous beliefs.
Don’t miss this episode and please join our Facebook community where I teach regularly and interact with you LIVE.
Pastor Sam Allberry, who struggles with same-sex attraction, reminds believers that since the fall, all of us have grappled with disordered desires.
Listen to this podcast conversation in our Top 10 Podcast series that will help us think more biblically, more carefully, and more pastorally on the topic of same-sex attraction.
In today’s episode of the Top 10 Podcasts series Patty Kujawa, mother of Jack Kujawa, former Marquette University High School student who took his life after battling depression, speaks out about the stigma of mental illness, parental self-doubt and rebuilding her relationship with God.
This conversation is a difficult and painful one, but I believe it's going to help those of you who are close to someone who struggles with depression or mental illness.
We're continuing our Top 10 Podcasts series today with a message on leadership. This episode is a sermon I gave not long ago to women leaders that highlights some of the lessons I’ve learned as a woman in ministry.
“When loving a prodigal in your midst, err on the side of grace.” Today on our Top Ten Podcasts series you will hear from Judy Douglass, author, speaker, and the founder and host of Prayer for Prodigals. She shares a tough but redemptive story about loving a prodigal child, which not only helped her grow closer to Jesus, but also inaugurated an international ministry.
Over the summer we will repost our most listened to podcasts as we believe they will offer encouragement, biblical perspective, and hope for any believer in this post-Christian world. Expect to hear conversations with various guests and teachings from Lina that will nourish your soul and deepen your faith.
Today, listen to a recent conversation with my friend Rosaria Butterfield on Hospitality, Church, Challenges in the COVID era.
On today’s podcast I invite you to listen to my friend Wendy Alsup who is well acquainted with the sting of suffering but also knows the faithfulness of God to walk with us through our deepest valleys and give us hope and purpose amid the hardest things. Her story of going through divorce, cancer, raising two boys as a single mom, while being involved in ministry will offer genuine insight into persevering through suffering and scriptural truths about the character of God.
Today I have the joy of sharing a conversation with Hannah Anderson about the significance of slowing down, noticing the world around us, finding beauty in everyday life, and learning what the natural world reveals about God. We’ll also talk about what’s happening in our church culture today and how to navigate some of the challenges that the Church and believers are facing currently.
In today's world, it can be difficult to have faith in the power of God. We know of the miracles recounted in Scripture, but today miraculous events seem rare, and perhaps God worked differently in the Old and New Testament periods than the way He works today. In this episode I answer the question if miracles still happen today and why we don't experience more of them in our lives?
Today’s question is a tough one. The topic of suicide fills one with sadness and heartache and suicidal thoughts trouble both Christians and non-Christians alike. The question most believers wrestle with is whether or not suicide is the unpardonable sin. While the subject of suicide and salvation is no simple matter, in today’s podcast I’ll present three brief ideas that I hope will help us think scripturally and compassionately about this question.
The trend of deconstruction extends far beyond the publicity of well-known Christians to ordinary folks who wrestle with and abandon the beliefs they once held dear. How should we respond when someone we love’s faith deconstructs? What are you supposed to do when your spouse no longer believes in God?
It has become more and more frequent to hear from Christians that they haven’t committed to a local church because they haven’t found the right fit. On today’s podcast I’m giving three reasons why I believe we’re having a hard time to feel like we belong to a body of believers, and how to fight for living out our faith in the community of other Christians.
We live now in a highly polarized and divided society when it comes to politics, but we as Christians are not left without a roadmap to navigate this argumentative and conflicting society. How are we to show respect to a government that holds views that do not align with our biblical worldview? In today’s podcast I’ll point out to you one truth to RECOGNIZE, one notion to REMEMBER, and one RESOLUTION you must make.
While love for one’s nation has a clear place in the Christian order of love, we must be careful to not allow a devotion to our country become our ultimate commitment. What is Christian nationalism and Christian patriotism, and how can we differentiate between the two?
Listen to today’s podcast where I try to answer these questions, as usual, from a biblical perspective, in a succinct way, and practically applicable to our everyday life.
Hear from Laura Perry, a woman who formerly identified as transgender. God used her mother's love and prayers to call Laura back to Himself. Filled with raw, honest emotion, Laura’s story of transformation through Jesus Christ will relate to those who struggle with gender identity, those who have transitioned, parents and loved ones, and those in the church who want to reach them.
The issue of gender pronouns has become controversial because some people in the transgender community want people who self-identify as transgendered to be called by their gender pronouns of choice. Thus, we are asked to refer to someone on the basis of their preferred pronouns. How are we to love God and love our neighbor in light of this particular issue? Should Christians use preferred pronouns?
In light of the three guilty verdicts in the trial of former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd, I’ve been asked by our listeners to share my thoughts about his conviction. As you listen to this podcast, let God’s truth mold you, and let God’s justice give you rest.
When it comes to gender roles in the church, Christians tend to adhere to one of two main approaches: complementarian or egalitarian. My goal in today’s podcast is not to make any direct contribution to those conversations but simply to answer a question related to women in complementarian churches.
P.S. Here's an article on a short evaluation of the two perspectives.
I today’s podcast I want to try to answer three questions related to the Holy Spirit: When is one filled with the Holy Spirit and what are the outward signs of being filled with the Spirit? And what does it mean to be anointed?
The Holy Spirit is perhaps the least understood and least acknowledged member of the Trinity. However, His presence and work permeate the Old and New Testament, and He is the person of the Trinity who is most involved in our daily lives. Today’s podcast will serve to answer a question that I hope will help us know and understand the Holy Spirit better.
The battle for purity is real and at times it can feel impossible to win it. We live in a world that is obsessed with sex, and the so-called purity culture has left us wanting. In today’s podcast I’ll answer the question if it possible and realistic to be pure in today’s oversexed world by giving you three biblical principles to arm yourself with in your battle for purity.
Child trafficking (the exploitation of vulnerable individuals for commercial gain) is a horrific reality that we as followers of Christ must expose and oppose. Today’s episode is a hopeful one in this regard. Rob Morris, CEO of LOVE146, has the bold and audacious vision to end child trafficking and exploitation by offering survival care and working towards the prevention of this crime. “God is with the suffering and the challenge for us is to join in there.”
How do we truly grow in faith? What are the things that will nourish our faith and we need to hold on to and sustain? My guest today suggests that faith can be formed by virtue of repetitive motion, by habit. Don’t miss this conversation on faith, life, and spiritual growth with my friend and award-winning author Jen Pollock Michel.
I’m sure you’re familiar with Janet Parshall hosting her show In the Market with Janet Parshall on Moody Radio, but today she’s in the guest’s seat. I literally can’t wait for you to listen to Janet’s fascinating story, and I believe you’ll appreciate our conversation on a plethora of topics covering faith, life, and culture.
You can hardly open your social media these days without seeing a Christian has posted claims they cannot possibly know to be true. Conspiracy theories are not something new, but our technological age has allowed misinformation to grow and spread faster, and create much confusion, suspicion and tension. So, how are we to think about all the conspiracy theories that are being circulated, and how are we to have healthy conversations with people who believe in them?
That a prominent Christian leader has been exposed for scandalous sin has unfortunately become a far-too-common story in recent years. To read about the addictions, the affairs, the misuse of money, and the abuse of power feels like a gut punch to our faith. No wonder we are shaken, hurt, and asking ourselves how this could have happened.
In today’s podcast I’ll answer the question I've received from some listeners, and quite frankly, I've been asking myself as well: Dear Lina: Why are so many Christian leaders embroiled in scandal these days?
There are a few passages in the Bible that are just difficult to interpret and know how to apply rightly. 1 Corinthians 11 is such a chapter. Over the years it has raised lots of questions and controversies about the role of men and women, their conduct, and order in the church. In light of some verses that are hard to understand, someone has asked me:
Dear Lina, if the Bible teaches that the man is the head of the woman and that woman was created for man, what purpose does my life as a single woman have?
The topic of hell is uncomfortable to most of us because it’s a difficult one. Certainly, to think that someone would end up in a place of eternal, unending judgement, is not something to be taken lightly. But it’s a subject we must grapple with because it is something that the Bible teaches. Take a listen as answer today’s question by looking at what Scripture says and resist the urge to deny or soften things that the Bible affirms.
I can’t wait for you to hear this conversation with Rosaria Butterfield! We’ll talk about what it means to practice intentional hospitality, how the church can remain strong in a changing culture, the challenges of the Covid era, how to engage the LGBTQ+ community with boldness and love, and much more.
In this podcast, Sam Allberry will help us think more biblically, more carefully, and more pastorally on the topic of same-sex attraction.
I believe this episode will encourage anyone who struggles with same-sex attraction and help everyone to better understand and support Christians who experience same-sex attraction.
We have all lived through suffering. It’s all hard and there are no easy answers or quick fixes. But even if we don’t see it right now, God is using all we’re going through for something much bigger and more glorious than we can imagine.
In this conversation with Vaneetha Risner, who faced bewildering suffering in her life, you will hear her story of how God met her in the fire and find encouragement as you struggle with your own pain.
We live in a culture obsessed with food and body image, and most of us bought into the lie that thinness means healthy and satisfaction with ourselves. So, we go to great lengths to attain our ideal weight only to find ourselves still not at peace with our bodies and probably stuck in unhealthy eating patterns.
What does it mean to have a healthy body image, embrace the unique size and shape that God created for you, and eat in a way that honors your hunger and God’s design for the role of food in the human life? Listen to this conversation with Functional Medicine Doctor, Alexandra MacKillop.
As I looked back on this eventful year, I came to realize that a lot of good things happened as well. Today’s podcast will be a fun episode! I’m sharing my “2020 list of favorite things” in the hope that it will encourage you and provide a few ideas for you to process this year and prepare for the next one. Enjoy!
As the social distancing rules go on and the challenges of the global pandemic remain, we continue to be affected in the way we work, do church, ministry, and quite frankly life. How do we reach out to others, worship, serve, and live out our calling in these times of social isolation?
"Dear Lina: I’m having a crisis of faith. I’m reading God’s word but having doubts that the Bible is the literal truth. Is it ever OK to change my mind about what the Bible is teaching?" Listen in as I answer this question about the truth, relevance, and authority of Scripture and consider some of the challenges we face in approaching the Bible in a post-Christian world.
Depression and anxiety can darken the way of even the most faithful, focused Christians. We all can go through periods of darkness when joy seems to stay just out of reach. What causes depression and anxiety and how can we move from despair to hope? Listen in!
With all the challenges we’ve faced this year, we might find it difficult to be grateful this time of the year. A look at Scriptures, however, will show us that we can see and trust God’s goodness even in the darkest of times. Today I want to encourage you with a message on the story of Stephen from Acts 6-7 that I titled “Unshaken when it feels like I have little to be thankful for.”
The massive spike in new COVID-19 cases poses great challenges to all of us again. Today I’m putting on my doctor hat and will be answering the three most frequent questions I am getting about COVID-19.
One of the most frequently asked questions right now is if we’re living in the end times. In today’s podcast I’ll address what we mean by “end times,” when the end times have started, and how this belief should inform our lifestyle. Take a listen!
The topic of whether women are allowed to be pastors in a church is a continuing debate among many denominations. The biblical texts often referred to when arguing on the matter are complex, and despite extensive studies spanning over decades, Christians do not agree on the interpretation of the biblical material nor on the role of women in the church. The question of women’s leadership in the church is one that will likely not go away, and today I’ll try to address it from a different perspective.
Dear Lina: I’ve lost my job, my marriage, and my church in the last few years, and now COVID-19. I’m losing hope. What should I do? In today’s podcast I want to encourage you in the Lord as I answer this question and remind you of how to cling to hope when we’re utterly burdened beyond our strength.
Every so often I invite some exciting guests on The Hope Podcast that will encourage and inspire you with their stories of hope. Today is no exception. Worship artist Jaime Jamgochian will share how God worked her recent years of struggle with chronic illness for good. If you are walking through a long season of suffering and feel stuck in a valley, this conversation will comfort you and testify that there is hope on the other side. Don’t miss!
Debates about gender and sexuality are not going to go away any time soon. Just this week, Pope Francis endorsed civil union laws for same-sex couples, breaking from the official teaching of the Roman Catholic Church. How should Christians respond to the modern attitudes towards homosexuality? Is God homophobic? And how are we to relate to those who experience same-sex attraction?
It is undeniable that Jesus calls His own to love those we don’t necessarily like, agree with, or we wouldn’t love naturally. It probably isn’t hard for you to think of a person in your life right now who is challenging to love because of the lifestyle they have chosen and of which you do not approve. How are we to deal with those strained relationships in a way that honors God and reflects His love?
Dorothy Littell Greco’s new book Marriage in the Middle: Embracing Midlife Surprises, Challenges, and Joys is so profound, true-to-real-life, well-researched, practical, thought-provoking, and hope-giving, that I can’t help but share about it! In today’s podcast you’ll hear a conversation around the topic of midlife and marriage that I believe has the potential to change and improve your marriage!
With this year’s presidential election just around the corner we can all feel the tension, conflict, and disagreement build up even between Christians. How can we honor the Lord with our vote as conscientious Christians? Should we choose the “lesser of two evils”? Should we vote for a third-party candidate? Should we choose not to vote? In today’s episode we’ll look at three general rules grounded in Scripture that should inform our decision.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us into a new way of life that has brought fears, uncertainty, and tensions, and the wearing of face masks has become one of the most contentious issues. As a doctor on the forefront of the pandemic crisis I have been asked many times how do I respond to this controversy. So today I’ll answer a question related to masks and love of our neighbor.
The more post-Christian we become the more tensions we’ll have with government rules and regulations. I believe today’s question is a timely one and will help us discern how to honor the government but still live by our conscience and God’s principles.
We live in a society or country where most people no longer consider Judeo-Christianity as America’s civic religion or ethical mooring. We are post-Christian and to be post-Christian is to be post truth. I have my truth and you have your truth, in fact, who knows if there is such a thing as truth? Well, that depends if we can argue for the reliability of the Bible as the inspired word of God, and not only that, but also for its relevance for today.
Dear Lina: I’m having a really hard time adjusting to the changes happening in our culture. I feel like I don’t fit in and that no matter what I say someone is angry at me. I’m more and more concerned about cancel culture and how it might affect me and my beliefs as a conservative Christian. What should I do?
In The Hope Podcast, Lina Abujamra answers your questions about life and culture and everything in between. If you’re a Christian looking for hope in a post Christian world, you’ll find it here. Email your questions to dearlina@livingwithpower.org and SUBSCRIBE to the podcast!
Do you feel discouraged, worn out, or even defeated? Are you on the verge of quitting? Listen to today’s podcast on how God encountered Elijah when he felt at his lowest. God’s love and His truth are able to awaken you to His purposes for your life and propel you again in the abundant life that is yours in Christ.
It’s not easy to talk about racism, but hope and healing spring up when we are willing to listen, learn, get uncomfortable, and become better equipped to take steps towards reconciliation. Don’t miss the interview with my guest today – writer, counselor, spiritual director, and speaker Sheila Wise Rowe, who for over twenty-five years has counseled and guided people toward healing from racial trauma.
How can the tensions between the police force and black individuals be resolved? What challenges do police officers face after recent events and protests? Can hope be re-instilled into the black community when it comes to justice, fairness, protection, or opportunities? – These are just some of the tough questions my guests, Chief Ana Lalley of Elgin Police Department and Latoya Conners Gray, will address on today’s podcast.
Many of us avoid and struggle with conversations about race because they make us feel uncomfortable. But as followers of Jesus we’ve been invited to step up and be a powerful witness to a world that needs to see our love and our oneness as a reflection of the power of the gospel.
My guest today is a longtime racial bridge builder, speaker and author, Dorena Williamson, and she will help us get a biblical understanding of how to love and lead multicultural communities.
As followers of Jesus we have a biblical duty to lead the world in reconciliation and love. To be able do so we need to be willing to engage in tough conversations, ask difficult questions, recognize our blind spots, decenter ourselves, actively seek to raise our consciousness about racism and take action when we see injustices being done.
My guest today, Dr. Carl Lambert, Jr., will help us navigate some difficult topics in the conversation about racism in the church, and encourage us in our pursuit of racial reconciliation and justice.
On today’s “Uncomfortable Conversation” my guest Reggie Kee will share about his experience with racism and help us get a better understanding about the challenges that our black brothers and sisters are facing. Together we’ll address some difficult topics like systemic racism, who’s supposed to do the work of reconciliation, microaggressions, how to find hope in the midst of racial tensions in the church, and more.
Today’s “Uncomfortable Conversation” will shed some light on offensive things white people say or do without knowing they are offensive, as well as offer suggestions about practical things we can do to communicate and love our black brothers and sisters better.
My guest: Taija Sparkman
I’m launching a new podcast series that I’ve called Uncomfortable Conversations About Racism In The Church. If there’s ever been a time for the church to lean in and learn from our black brothers and sisters, it’s now. I believe this conversations will help us learn how to be a tool in God’s redeeming work in doing justice and racial reconciliation here on earth. My guest today: Kathryn Freeman
We’re coming to the end of the leadership edition of The Hope Podcast! As the grand finale of this leadership series I wanted you to listen to a sermon I gave not long ago to women leaders based on Elijah's story from 1 Kings 19. I believe this episode will be both instructive and convicting.
Don’t you wish you had a roadmap for what you should know and what you need to become a great leader? As I’m considering my leadership journey, there are three things I want to share with you in the hope that they will help you become all that God intends for you to be.
More often than we’d like to, we will be faced with closed doors in life and leadership. But closed doors do not mean that it’s the end of the road for you. They do not mean that God has stopped caring for you. Quite the opposite. Closed doors often have to do with God’s timing in your life, his work in you, and his purposes for you.
Leadership is lonely. It might not look like it from the outside because a leader is often surrounded by others, but every leader knows that in order to lead, well, you typically lead from the front – alone. In today’s podcast we’ll discuss three principles that will help us navigate loneliness successfully.
When Jesus said, “Follow me,” he meant that we follow his way of life that involved several practices that enabled him to experience intimacy with his heavenly Father and live out his life and ministry from that place of communion. In today’s podcast I will focus on three spiritual disciplines that every leader needs.
Is it possible to carry great responsibilities as a leader and not be anxious? If we look at Jesus’ life and ministry, then the answer is a categorical yes. In today’s podcast we’ll learn three principles modeled by Jesus that will help us fight anxiety and work from a place of peace and trust in a faithful God. P.S. JOIN OUR ONLINE COMMUNITY
We’re continuing the Leadership Edition of The Hope Podcast – a series of episodes where we look at Jesus as the model of our leadership and redefine what it means to be a leader in God’s economy. Today we’ll address how to navigate the challenges and difficult decisions a leader faces on a regular basis.
If we’re ever going to change the world around us it will have to be Jesus’ way – the way of love. A love that’s biblical, sacrificial, unconditional, unstoppable, holy, and truthful. And this kind of love can be scary. As we look at David’s story with Mephibosheth, in today’s podcast we’ll dismantle some misconception about love and learn what it means to be fearless when it seems that our fear in love might overtake us.
Have you ever felt too weary and depressed to go on? Elijah did… In 1 Kings 19 we find him overwhelmed by life’s circumstances and ready to give up. But when he might have written the end of his story, God was just getting started.
As we look at how the Lord dealt with Elijah when he was stumbling through the dark, we will glean hope and gain confidence in a God committed to deliver and restore us no matter how deeply sunken we might feel. Listen in!
While we might strongly dislike failure, at some point in life we all fall short no matter how strong we think we are. The good news is that with God failure is not the end of our story, but the very thing he will use to show us his strength, his love, and to pave the way to our maximum usefulness. Today's podcast is an invitation for you to embrace your failure and turn to the Lord who is waiting for you “breakfast ready.”
If you have been a Christian for a while you must know by now that there is a cost to following Christ. In fact, Jesus wants nothing less from you than everything. In today’s podcast we’ll look in 1 Kings 17 at the story of Elijah and the widow from Zarephath and see how one woman could remain fearless even when it looked like faith might cost her more than she bargained for.
Do your dreams look dead? Do God’s delays seem like he doesn’t care? Are you disappointed with the outcomes in your life? On today’s podcast we’ll look at the story of Lazarus and his sisters in John 11 and discover that every broken dream is a chance to overcome fear and to trust the God of the impossible.
We’re taking a break from the Leadership edition of the Hope Podcast and in the next six weeks we’ll post a series on fearlessness that I believe will inspire you to trust and believe in the greatness and faithfulness of God and come out of this season FEARLESS. Don’t miss it, and I can’t wait for you to learn my definition of fearlessness!
No matter how far we are on our faith journey, we all benefit from walking alongside a mentor or accountability partner who can guide is in our life. While mentorship is essential, it is not always easy to find that person and develop a healthy partnership. In today’s podcast you’ll find wise and practical advice no matter where you are in the mentorship journey.
There are seasons in a leader’s life when no one is following when you take a step forward. Today’s podcast will help us recognize that leadership doesn't require having a certain number of followers. Leadership is much more than that.
Ever feel like you’re burning out as a leader? Truth is, most leaders will get to some level of burnout at some point in their journey. Is there a better way to arrange our life rhythms so that, like Jesus, we don’t burn out, don’t want to quit, or find a way out of our responsibilities? Listen in and find hope for the season you’re in!
How do we lead in a time of crisis? How do we take charge, respond, and move forward? In today’s podcast I want to encourage you to remain steady in your leadership by: (1) Maintaining focus when all around is confusion; (2) Choosing to believe when deliverance delays; (3) Leading with innovation when plans are changed.
If you’ve ever felt rejection by others, you’re in good company. Jesus felt it too, even from his own family and those closest to him.Rejection will inevitable come, but it doesn’t have to destroy us. The more secure we are in our vertical identity, the less affected we will be by criticism, various attacks, and rejection by others.
Nobody likes failure. Yet, none of us can escape it. But did you know that God is not expecting you to never fail, but he’s counting on using your failure for good?
As we’ll look at Peter’s story in John 21 today we’ll find out that: (1) God didn’t choose you because of your potential, but because of His; (2) Your failure is a means to an end; (3) Your failure is not the end of your story.
Did you know that fruitfulness and success is the very thing God wants for you? But what we consider success and how we measure success in the world is not quite the same as what God considers success.
Today’s Podcast will invite you to reconsider what success God’s way means. It will challenge you to move from a view of success that is outwardly measured in numbers, rankings, or NY Times bestseller lists, to one that is measured in the depth of your character, intimacy with the Lord, and obedience to his will.
A leader is a follower first. When we identify as disciples first and then lead out of that reality we will be less likely to misuse our God-given authority, less fearful of change, and more interested in following the Spirit’s guidance than giving in to doing what everyone else does or says.
It’s impossible to be in leadership and not make mistakes. But mistakes can turn into powerful lessons if we take the time to reflect and ask the Lord to show us what he wants to teach us and accomplish in us through them.
In today’s podcast I’ll share about the three biggest mistakes I found myself doing in my leadership journey, and hope to encourage you to grow as a leader in a way that glorifies God and expands his kingdom.
What comes to mind when you think of yourself as a leader? What traits are you known for in your leadership capacity? Who shapes your image of what a leader is? In this podcast we’ll talk about the call to Christian maturity, servanthood, brokenness, uncommon communion, and obedience that ought to shape our identity as leaders.
