We’ve been speaking about a journey from a destination. Normally we would speak about a journey to a destination. But as we have said we are thinking about destinations in terms of those we make, rather than those God makes for us, and from those destinations, God wants us to travel from them on a journey with Him, to a destination of His making. So we began looking at this series with a thought of a destination that we call opinion, preference, our own belief, and that we’ll call Dogma. That’s a destination that some of us travel from. God wants us to make sure that when thinking of those things we believe, that we’re willing to make sure God tests or tries those; and not some things we’re unwilling to change, of those things He wants us to change. That’s what Dogma can be. Well it then leads us along the journey when we’re willing to move from our own opinions and our own preferences. It moves us along the journey of how we see ourselves in the world and how we see the world, and we called that worldview. So this brings us now to another place, that I would like to call faith. Faith is also part of a journey for us that began as a chaotic place. These destinations that we’ve come from, are becoming clearer, as we allow God to order our journey. So I’d like us to think about faith this week in this sense that it is a place that we arrive at on a journey God gives to us. It’s a gift. Think of it like that. rather something that we’ve come up with, or construct. We considered Paul the apostle and his journey that led him from a worldview of “Saul of Tarsus,” to an entirely different person. We also considered Jesus and how He saw the world from His point of view. Finally we’ve considered how these things lead us from destinations of our making onward into a journey with God. This is sort of the progression that we’re following, and we’re moving on with this.
There’s a sentiment in the world today that confuses the worldview for faith. I’ll explain. Worldview is again opinion; it’s how we see ourselves in the world, the world around us. And there’s a sentiment today that even gets confused in a religious sense, that which is worldview with faith. One says, “Because I claim an experience with God, and because I see how the world has changed, then ‘somehow’ now, I’ve arrived at a place on this journey that I call faith, faith now is a different worldview. God has changed my mind, He has changed the way I think. So that must mean that I have faith; it must mean the faith that God wants me to have because I think differently now, than I used to think.“ The world today that, that believes somehow because I think differently now than I used to think, “I have faith.” The two are not the same! Just thinking differently does not imply that we have the faith that God wants us to have. Lots of times people change their opinions. They change the way they think. They come up with different ideas. Things happen to them. They go on in life, and they get older, ..the way they think changes. We don’t think the way we thought as a child now as we’re older. But that is not faith. There’s a sentiment today that says in the Christian world I guess you could call it that, “because one day I gave my heart to God, since then I just presumed that somehow I think differently, ..now I have faith.” And their not the same. So we want to began with that. One is from earth, ..earthy. That’s the kind of opinion and belief and thoughts one might have after they have a religious conversion or experience and how that changes how we see the world, and so all of that might come from our own mind. That’s an earthy kind of change.
But this morning we’re going to speaking about another kind of change that is quite different. That one comes not from the earth, but from heaven. What comes from heaven is a gift in this sense. What comes from earth is not a gift, it’s something that we make up. I’m drawing a distinction from that which we make up and that which comes from heaven which is a gift. A gift that is a heavenly thing which is a gift that is given to us. That now will move us from these places from dogma, to how we see ourselves in the world. That heavenly gift will move us on this journey with God. In the Old Testament the type was the people of Israel when God delivered them from Egypt and they came out of bondage, and they were traveling in the desert for 40 years. Well God had a destination for them, and it was Canaan. He meant them to cross over Jordan to a land He had for them. That whole journey was not intended to be one of their own making of how they saw the world and their place in it, but rather it was intended to be a journey that God would construct for those people to lead them to a destination of His making. And ultimately they would be transformed from the image that they had in bondage, to an image God had intended for them to be in Canaan. That’s the type. And faith is the same thing, it intends to help us along a journey to transform us from an image of our own making to an image of God’s making. Now let us go from here to this thought of faith moving us along in this journey. The purpose of faith which I call worldview to faith. The contrast of the two.
Paul here was basically writing part of his autobiography.
TEXT: GALATIANS 1:13-24
13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jew’s religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:
14 And profited in the Jew’s religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.
15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from mother’s womb, and called me by his grace.
16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood.
17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.
18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.
19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord’s brother.
20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.
21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;
22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:
23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.
24 And they glorified God in me.
This is the first purpose of the witness of faith that we’ll be using this morning.
Saul of Tarsus was converted on the road between Jerusalem and Damascus He sees a bright light. God has to physically throw him from a horse to the ground to get his attention.(Acts 9th chapter). Sometimes God has to do dramatic things to us to get our attention! Saul says “who is this?” Jesus takes him to Damascus, and for three days he’s without sight. And on the day appointed one of the disciples prays for Saul of Tarsus, who is now Paul the apostle. God gives him the Holy Spirit, and his sight, and his purpose And during these three days, which you might liken unto death of the old person, ..there is now resurrected a new person, who is no longer Saul of Tarsus! As Paul said ” 23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.” In other words my worldview, was a destructive worldview, with my faith of Saul of Tarsus! But after this conversion that I’ve had and this death and resurrection by the One I persecuted I am no longer a destroyer, ..now I am one of them! God had actually began to form in Paul a faith that God could use. It had nothing necessarily to do with Paul’s view of the world, his opinions and sentiments that Saul had come to this place. It had nothing to do with that, but rather God was forming in Paul the apostle a faith God could use for His purpose. A journey from a destination.

We want to continue this week, on the thought, “The Journey from the Destination.” This week is part 2, “Destination of Our Own Making.” Usually when we think of destination, we think of the end of our journey. I’m thinking here of the journey from the destination. Now I have a series of topics I have included in this study. Last week we spoke of “Dogma.” Dogma again, is tradition or teaching, which someone holds as opinion, or preference, and it’s not meant to change. Even though sometimes it must change; that’s dogma. Dogma is not to be confused in a religious sense with doctrine. Doctrine is teaching, it comes from the Greek and that’s what it means. Teaching has a couple of dimensions to it when it comes to the gospel sense. It’s founded on the Word of God, which is on the solid rock, which is Christ Jesus. And teaching in that respect is not meant to change. Because if it changes, and is subject to which “way the wind is blowing,” then we can’t depend on it! It becomes variable, and subject to human interpretation. Doctrine isn’t like that in that sense. It’s founded upon an principal that’s not meant to change. That’s what gets us from chaos, to order in life. But doctrine in this sense does evolve when we take that eternal principal that never changes, and we apply it to an everchanging world, in which human circumstances dictate a need for change. So you can understand that doctrine is not dogma. Dogma is full of human interpretation, it’s full of human preference, someone’s philosophy, personal convictions, traditions, that’s dogma. Sometimes dogma is useful, but in a Christian sense, Jesus said, when you use that as your doctrine, you could fall into trouble. Last week we considered 8 woes in the book of Matthew, that Jesus was teaching that was in opposition to the dogma of the Pharisees.
That’s where we began this study. My whole point of this is I’d like us to think about 2 things; one it’s where we’re headed in life. We want heaven to be our destination, don’t we? And we can all agree on that! But I’m considering in this series, destinations that we make in life’s journey that we stop at, and God needs us to keep going. But we’re stuck at a destination of our making. And that’s the subject of our lesson this morning; “Destinations of Our Own Making. ” God needs us to move when we’re stuck at a destination that we have made, perhaps in good faith, and good will. We didn’t think we were deceived but this was perhaps where God wanted us to stay and never move, and God says I need you to move and like Peter, the sheet comes down, and God says I need you to move and Peter says “No, I’m not gonna move.” That’s a destination that Peter made, and God needed Peter to move from that destination, even though Peter had made it in good will, and in good faith. Peter wasn’t manipulative, he wasn’t deceiving anybody, he wasn’t trying to lift up himself. He actually had a destination that God had given Moses. But God needed Peter to move someplace else, and so that was the point of that particular story. We sometimes arrive at destinations of our making, when God needs us to move. So think about this series, as moving from a destination along the journey. We are moving on this journey with a desire to be founded on the Rock Christ Jesus. Moving on Jesus’s doctrine as our standard, and commonality. But in a journey that will keep us current with the needs that we face today. This week we’re going to look at it from a different point of view than last week. Moving from a spot of our own destination by understanding how we see the world. We call that our worldview, and what that means. This can influence whether we move from a destination of our own making, or not, to a destination that God shows us. The issue is “Are we lined up with God?” Or a destination that “we” have made? Real simple. We go to Acts 7, and deal with Saul of Tarsus, who later became Paul the Apostle. This is the first witness. We’re not going to focus on Paul as much as Saul. The second witness, is the worldview of Jesus. We need to see if the way I see the world, ..is it lined up as Jesus sees the world? If it is, we’ll find ourselves in movement with God! We turn to Acts 7 58-60. This is where Stephen was persecuted, and killed, verse 60.
TEXT: ACTS 7:58-60
58 “And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man’s feet, whose name was Saul.
59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge, And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
Stephen died as one of the first martyrs, of the Church. The man Saul, who would be known as the Apostle Paul, was witness to his assassination. And the crowd laid Stephen’s clothes at Saul’s feet. Saul had consented to Stephen’s death, and even instructed the crowd to stone him. That’s why they laid the clothes at Saul’s feet and not another one. He was in charge in the midst of the crowd, this same man that would become the Apostle Paul.
Acts 8:1-2 1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. 2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
Acts 9:1-2
1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the lord, went unto the high priest,
2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of thiw way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
These first couple of verses we’re looking at this Saul. He was going to Damascus to purge the synagogues of believer who were following Christ. This was a threat that Paul perceived to his leadership, and true religion, and especially the Jewish religion of the Hebrews. I don’t know whether this attitude of Paul was held by all, but we’ll get to one man in particular, but it was certainly Saul’s opinion, and had to be shared by some. This period of time was probably at the time of the newness of the Church. He hasn’t yet gone on his missionary journeys, writing letters or epistles. It was still some time before that would happen. Later there had risen up a sect of the Jews called the Zealots, who were also present in Saul’s day as well. The zealots were a religious group that felt that the temple needed to remain pure in a ritual sense. They were very dogmatic. Change was not a very nice word for zealots. Saul was more of a zealot than others. The zealots felt that things were just falling into ruin in the Jewish nation, that there was too much accommodation with Rome. Today we would say there was too much worldliness. They felt that things needed to be purged as did Saul. One descriptive word might be fanatic. I’m emphasizing this to illustrate that Saul had a certain worldview that was religious in nature that was very dogmatic that was based on a destination that they had made which God did not. God needed the Jewish nation to move in unity with Jesus! And it wasn’t happening and throughout time
Acts 22: 3-5 3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day. 4 And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women. 5 As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there were bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.
I want you to understand the worldview of Saul of Tarsus. Very dogmatic, zealous, stubborn, stuck, not moving with God. He references a man named Gamaliel. Gamaliel, in history was the grandson of a man named Hillel who was a Jewish scholar very important in Jesus’s time. Gamaliel was important, a teacher, perhaps even the president of the Sanhedrin, the council of the leaders of the Jewish people. Paul said he was “taught at Gamaliel’s feet.” Let’s see who Gamaliel really was. Acts 5:34-40 34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostle forth a little space.
In this chapter Peter and the apostles were being persecuted, and Peter hauled before the council that Gamaliel was the head of the council and desired to give space to the apostles so he could privately talk to them.
35 And he said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men. 36 For before these days arose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody, to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought. 37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed. 38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought. 39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God. 40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
I’m using this to make a point. Saul of Tarsus was taught by this man. In this case this man tells this council not to haul people out of the synagogue and kill them. He tells them, leave them alone! Because of what they’re doing is of God, you can’t stop it anyways. And if it’s not, people aren’t going to follow them. So leave them alone and it will come to nothing. His counsel was quite different to what Saul of Tarsus did by hauling men and women into prison to be executed as they did Stephen. Saul of Tarsus is even more fanatic than his teacher. His teacher was not fanatic in this case. The world of Saul of Tarsus was a mean, stubborn, stuck at a particular destination and even his teacher did not share Saul’s worldview. How we see the world, will strongly influence our faith and how we see God. Romans 10:1-3 1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
How ironic that Paul the Apostle is writing this the exact opposite to what Saul of Tarsus did before he became Paul the apostle, because Saul was then ignorant of God’s righteousness. Saul of Tarsus had a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge! Because Saul of Tarsus moved from a destination of his own making!

We’ve had some challenges, but we can look forward still to a good year in this 2022. The glass is half full, and not needing to be half empty! Thank the Lord for the blessings He’s given us! We started a thought this past week, on “where our treasure is, there will our heart be also.” We’re going to continue with that thought in mind, but with a little different way of looking at it. One of the passages we will be reading from is in Luke 18. I’d like to think about where our treasure is, as we began this new year, and in the thought of that, how we accumulate it and how much time we spend with it, and what we do with it. I was reminded of 3 things that influence that subject. What we fear, what we love, and what we value.. think about treasure. There’s your “wealth,” it is your coin, but also your ideas, preferences, your attitude, and thoughts. So think about treasure that way. It’s also influenced by how we think about how much something cost us.
Those things three elements affect how people make decisions about anything. They tend to accumulate what they love, they tend not to part with those things they fear of losing. They value what they tend to accumulate, they spend time with it, but also again sometimes what those things cost, what we do with it, that kind of thing. Value is more than what things cost, but what it means to you. If you only go by cost, you will get what you paid for, low, or high. Making a decision on low cost, will show you it wasn’t that valuable. Another thought, before we go to our text, is “what I value, needs to be aligned with what God values! I need to be, in order to prosper. How have you determined that what you value, is aligned with what God values? Simply by what you think, or what you want? Because we have a “witness,” the Word of God, of things that God values! .So we can search the witness to see if what I value is the same as what God values. That means you have to read, search, pray to receive the witness from it. I’d like to ask as we study, are we aligned with what God values, or with my preferences? If I’m aligned with the world and it’s ways, it’s likely I will not be aligned with God’s values. Again, costs is not the same as value, and might be more than what we’re comfortable with. But if we’re seeking value, that might be preferable. One of the things that determine value, is fear. Normally we will try to avoid what we fear. What we fear, sometimes drives up the cost of the decision. Seeking value will sometimes overcome the fear. Because the cost is not the primary “driver.”
TEXT: LUKE: 18:18-25
18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good: none is good, save one, that is God.
So the ruler wants to know, “what do I have to do to inherit eternal life?” Or what do I have to do to be a Christian? To serve God?
20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
Jesus started with the law, because he knew the young ruler was aligned with the law. He’s teaching a lesson. What we prefer, believe, what our opinion is, our thought is, is not necessarily what God is aligned with! Jesus is asking this young man to determine what is he aligned with? In essence of course, the young man is declaring he is aligned up with the law of Moses and faithful to it. In our language today, he is saying he goes to church every Sunday, and doesn’t hang out with the worldly crowds and doings, i.e. go clubbing, foolishness, doing things that I know are wrong.
22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven and come, follow me.
23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God!
We’re going to speak about this rich young ruler, class, value, and what we’re aligned up with. We make reference also to; Luke 12: 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. I’d like us to consider this new year, that our treasure is not our house, land, possessions. Our treasure ultimately is our opinions, ideas, preferences, attitudes, and thoughts. Those are our greatest treasures, that each of us hold. In wars, marriages, it’s the differences of strong opinions, ideas, that causes the divisions. It’s not usually about “stuff” and who has the most, but rather the differences about ideas*. Ideas start wars! As we start 2022, our opinions, and ideas, what we (1)value, matters! That’s your treasure! This young ruler was fearful of losing his treasure! What you (2)fear losing, is your treasure! Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also! Also what you fear losing, is what you will (3) love*!
Sometimes the one thing we are unwilling to give up is the one thing that God needs the most! That one thing is what will keep us from a rich relationship with God and put us at odds with God’s people the body of Christ! All from that one thing we are unwilling to give up! God wants us to sell everything we have, to find our treasure! The young ruler couldn’t do it be cause that was not where his treasure was. Instead it was in his “stuff.” Is our treasure with our opinions, our attitudes? Is that what we fear losing? We all have strong opinions. But I need to be willing to distribute them to wherever poverty is, and find my treasure in heaven! It is not stuff that will divide God’s people. Instead it’s opinions, attitudes, preferences, ..that will divide God’s people! God says “let it go!” “Let Me have it!”

We have a very different Christmas story this morning, and a very special one! I’m going to ask you to turn to Psalms 72, for our text. Along the way you’ll get what I mean. Then we’re going to read in Matthew of the New Testament. I love the 72nd chapter of Psalms and the message it brings. I’m encouraged this morning in the Majesty of God! Not all in the world can understand this, but each one of us need to understand God’s Majesty. For we can have a personal relationship with God. That’s why the way I describe it, is that God becomes close and personal, and not small and far away! My son when small, used to get migraine headaches, and it affected his vision. Things would seem small and far away to him. I also think that spiritually one can describe God, sometimes, as small and far away. When people look at God as small and far away, what happens is, symbols have substituted for reality. And then the symbols is what one begins to worship. It could be an icon in a church building, an idea, it could be a routine in a church service being conducted. When God becomes small and far away, the symbols take the place or replace a personal experience with Him. I like to think that one of things we have the opportunity to do as a Christian, is make God close and personal, and not small and far away. Religious symbols are not as important to us. What is more important to us, is a relationship as if it were another person! If you’re married, your wife or husband is not a symbol. When you began to treat them as a symbol, they’ll let you know! They want to be seen and have you acknowledge their presence. They want to feel and be close to your presence. And God is the same way! In order for that to happen, there needs to be a change in our heart. This 72nd chapter of Psalms, is a prayer written that ended here, ..as so was his life. It is often thought this was a prayer re his son Solomon, and to and for Israel, to acknowledge Solomon as the new king.
TEXT: PSALMS 72:1-20
1 (A Psalm for Solomon.) Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son.
2 He shall judge the people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgement.
3 The mountains shall bring people people, and the little hills, by righteousness.
4 He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.
5 They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.
It’s lofty and poetic language that David is praying, that God would bless Solomon’s reign. And Solomon would be larger than life.
6 He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.
7 In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.
8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.
9 They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.
10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.
11 Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.
12 For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.
13 He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.
14 He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.
15 And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; and daily shall be he be praised.
16 There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.
And now he switches from a prayer for his son*, and more*** to a declaration and he says;
17 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.
18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wonderous things.
19 And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.
20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.
So if we were to say, that Psalm were only about David’s son Solomon, their are parts of this prayer that could be assigned to a human being, but there are other parts of this prayer that no human being could fulfil*. “14 He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.” First point here: That’s not something Solomon could do for his subjects! Any more than the sacrifices in the temple could cleanse the people once and for all, from sin. This is more than just a prayer from a father about, or for his son, that his son’s reign would be magnified, and that it would be glorious upon the earth. You can see how a king’s mind could work here. In the city of David, as it is said, which is just below the temple mount in Israel, the city occupies a kind of a ridge, down from the temple mount, and on either side of this ridge, houses were built, and this is where the ancient city of Jerusalem was, high up on this ridge was the palace where the king lived. King David while his army were at war, had a view of the city, as a protector, with a privileged place, a fine and elite house, could look over the more common houses of the city below and at Bathsheba bathing. The king had privileges, and a mentality that ordinary people didn’t have. His every need was provided; people served him. Seems nice, right? So when he prayed this prayer, it was a grandiose one, to assign these characteristics to Solomon, in a poetic manner. Not that this was how Solomon was, but a prayer for this idealism to be provided him. An ideal of a king. I’m drawing this picture to be assigned to somebody else, where it is not an ideal, but a reality* ! For a human, and not God, this was quite lofty. Can you see that? Now we come to the birth or nativity of Jesus. And this is why the Messiah has come to the world. Here it is speaking of Mary;
Matthew 1: 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Jesus means God saves us (from our sins). That’s the reason why Jesus was specifically born! Not that He would only come to the world, for healing, prophecy, etc.(although He did all that). But also that God came into the world by His Sovereign Will, He provided us a way to be saved from our sins. Christianity has trouble with this idea, that God came to save His people ‘from’ their sins. Difficult for them to figure out. One part of Christianity wants to assign that part to a God that is small and faraway. It doesn’t seem possible to them to be saved from our sins. But there’s another idea to this, that God is not* small and far away, but close and present. When you believe this in a real way you can begin then to understand how God can save you from your sins. If He is kept small and far away, all sorts of other things take the place of God, and “from our sins” seems* no longer necessary. The word “from” in the Greek means or depicts a separation. It does not mean, “present yet*.” “From” does not mean “in.”. When this is taught, it’s like your in a soup of sin, that God comes to save, but not really out and from them. The misconception that somehow God comes to save us while still in this “soup.” No deliverance completely. That’s not what *Matt 1:21 is saying. Jesus came to separate us from sin. More than just a fix it! But separated, a deliverance from sin!
