The local coverage of the Murdaugh family and their innumerable scandals has been respectable. However, both national and area coverage has focused largely on presenting content that's heavy on "true crime" sensationalism and stingy with providing important historical framing as well as a critical race and class analysis. Here are my thoughts on how this historically unethical family was able to build-out an exclusive justice system that served to fiercely protect their white wealth and power.

The second half of the podcast features Scotty's former fellow inmate and good friend, Nate. As with Scotty, Nate takes us through his crime and sheds light on how he ended up in prison at the age of 17.

On April 29, 2018, a group of activist, led by Naomi Simmons-Thorne, gathered for a vigil to honor the life of Sasha Wall. Sasha was the eighth transgender person to be murdered this year in the United States. She was the 1st trans woman, that we know of, to be murdered here in South Carolina. This podcast episode is devoted to telling more of her story.
