Welcome to the Beetle in the Box podcast Why Beetle in a Box? - Ludwig Wittgenstein proposes the we describe our world by "Private Language”… we think in pictures and assume others share the same pictures. He used a story of each of us having a matchbox with an object called a beetle. We each have a picture of a beetle, and Wittgenstein suggested that we assume we know what a beetle is but our picture could be very different.Beetle in a Box aims to shine light on the unique contents of our own match box, and by doing so, deepen our understanding of how others may view their lives and their world.We take a peek into the individual match box of each of the guests and aim to expand our understanding of their reality, how they see their world?

Michael Byrne is an industry leader and has had a distinguished 30-year career in executive positions both in Australia and internationally in the logistics, supply chain, retail and property sectors. Previous roles include Chief Executive Officer of Toll Holdings, Coates Hire, Linfox and Westgate Holdings. Most recently he has been appointed by the Federal Government during this COVID crisis as International Freight Assistance Mechanism (IFAM) freight coordinator general.
Michael takes us on his personal journey and some of the events that have influenced him along the way. We discuss the current COVID crisis and its human and economic effects on Australia. Michael has a very pragmatic view of leadership and we explore his deep connection to people. In particular, his stand and leadership for safety and well being of all people at work.
