We were super-excited to welcome Meredith Scardino, the brilliant writer of a billion comedy things, but most recently the creator and showrunner of the hilarious Girls5Eva. If you haven’t watched, please ask yourself what you’ve been doing with your life, then run over to Netflix to correct your error. We’ll wait. Once you’re done, you’ll be all the MORE excited to hear her discuss 1994’s Disclosure, a film that (in the words of Dan’s Letterboxd) “Begins as a dumb and offensive sexual harassment thriller, then wisely pivots into an offensively dumb techno-thriller.” But what do the other Peaches think? Also, this episode is about a film featuring the iconic Donald Sutherland, who was still with us at the time of this recording, but who died just recently at the age of 88. We had nothing but good things to say about Mr. Sutherland, even in this silly movie, but for a more full-throated and lovely remembrance, check out this article by the great Matt Zoller Seitz.

And while we doubt most Smalltember(vember?) movies are union signatories, we decided to keep the train a rollin’ anyway and make this a 90s flashback Smalltember! We kick it off with 1999’s Italian-Korean-American co-production The Legend of the Titanic — a bizarre attempt to cash in on James Cameron 1997 mega-blockbuster Titanic, in the form of an animated film featuring a similar star-crossed romance, but with a lot more talking animals.

This week, we talk Wild Wild West (the 1999 movie version of the 60's sci-fi western TV show) a blockbuster mega-bomb that nearly ended multiple careers!
Dan walks Elliott and Stuart through some of the 90s output of critically-reviled actor Jim Belushi, trying to answer the question, "what would make a Jim Belushi movie appealing to you?"

Instead, we're using this opportunity to go back in time and discuss some silly releases from the past, starting out with some films 90's kids will remember. This week, we're discussing 1995's Sandra Bullock techno-thriller The Net, a movie about the horrors of the internet that seemed prescient and terrifying at the time, and now just seems kind of goofy, considering that the horrors of the internet were way different than those it imagines.
Elliott points out that, pre-Barbenheimer, two big movies had frequently been released on the same day. It's true! You can look it up! He runs Dan and Stu through a battle of wits, exploring other mismatched matchups from cinema past.
When last we saw our book club pals, they were getting all horned up and making life changes based on 50 Shades of Grey. Now that they're reading The Alchemist, we can only assume they're out there exerting their control over the elements. Join us as we explore this exciting new addition to the "Jane Fonda hangs out with 3 other elderly actresses" cinematic universe!
Stuart brings back the Peach Pit, everyone's favorite after-show about The Flop House, to quiz The Original Peaches about our opinions on fine art and answer a few questions straight from Stu's DMs.
It's a goddamn milestone -- 400 mainline episodes over 16 years of The Flop House! (And that's not counting all of the FH Minis, and the Movie Minutes of yore!) Thus, we took a break from our usual modus operandi of watching less-artistically-successful modern movies, and we treated ourselves with one of the classics of the bad movie canon (so much so that it's the topic of the extremely enjoyable documentary Best Worst Movie). That's right: we're talking about TROLL 2, the film that has absolutely nothing to do with the original Troll other than a title and a fondness for rubber creatures!! It's been memed! It's been giffed! And now it's been Flop Housed!
Dan leads Elliott and Stuart in a discussion of the non-movie things they do to stay happy and sane. (But don't worry, film fans -- there's still plenty of movie talk scattered around. We can't help ourselves!)

You remember Flop House superstar, Parker Bennett, right? He co-wrote the legendarily strange Super Mario Bros, and we talked to him about his experiences with that movie in FH Mini 39. Wait didn't we do this movie before? Don't be ridiculous. That was Marmaduke (2010) this is Marmaduke (2022). How could you possibly have mixed that up? Anyway, this ain't your daddy's Marmaduke, provided you have a very young daddy (in the case of the previous film) or a very old daddy (who loves the comic). This is the animated one for Netflix, with Pete Davidson as the titular Duke of Marma. Does it make the previous one look like the Citizen Kane of Marmaduke films? Kinda!

For our second and final Smalltember(vember?) show of 2022, we talk Pinocchio. No, not that one. Not that one either. The Russian one with Pauly Shore. Is that a thing that exists, and not just some weird chain of words we strung together? Apparently! We watched it, so unless it was a collective bi-coastal hallucination, it's real! And we had to watch it, so now you have to listen!
Stuart welcomes Dan and Elliott to "The Pitch Pit," his Flop House after-show, which is definitely a long-running podcast and not just something he made up for this mini.
Even though the last few years may have made everyone feel unstuck in time, there are still some things you can depend on -- namely that, come the fall, Dan and Elliott will argue about whether it's Smalltember or Smallvember. Stuart tries to explain JoJo's Bizarre Adventure to Dan and Elliott. Are they more confused afterward than they were at the beginning? Perhaps!
Episode 275 is ALIVE! We keep raiding Blank Check for some of our finest guest stars, which is why it was only a matter of time before we'd add "America's finest film critic," Ben Hosley, to that list. And Ben asked if he could do "that stupid robot movie from the 80's," and following a brief round of "Is THIS the Film?, Dan figured out that Ben was asking for Short Circuit 2. Thus it twas spake. Thus it came to pass.
It may SOUND like a Cinemax film from the 90s, but Virtual Obsession was actually a 3-hour ABC television EVENT, starring Peter "Caterpillar Brow" Gallagher, Mimi Rogers, and Bridgette Wilson, and directed by Mick "I Know Stephen King" Garris. Will Dan be able to convince Stu and Elliott that they're sad they missed it?
Somehow one of the most boring movies we've EVER covered on the show + Dan recovering from Covid-19 = an especially raucous episode of The Flop House. We suddenly remembered that we could watch horror movies during months that AREN'T October, so we decided to make the ultimate sacrifice to watch Firestarter -- we signed up for Peacock. The Mixed-Review House rolls on with Kenneth Branagh's second outing as Hercule Poirot, Death on the Nile. It's a character he seems committed to playing, despite seemingly having no particular understanding or affinity for the source material. But hey, at least he's keeping the CGI pyramids industry in business!
Dan's back in the driver's seat for this mini, and he challenges Elliott and Stu to a game so insidious, it almost breaks the podcast.
Despite its relative financial success and reviews that are more "mixed" than bad, M. Night Shyamalan has become such a FH all-star, that we had to check out Old: The Beach that Olds People. (As Dan is fond of saying, "Don't get hung up on our name.") Unsurprisingly, it gave us a ton to chew on. Please don't be mad at us just cause we don't think it's a masterpiece, Blank Check buddies. Maybe y'all should skip this one. Everyone else in the world -- enjoy!

Griffin McElroy has already been a part of one amazing podcast about The War With Grandpa, over on sister Max Fun podcast My Brother My Brother and Me, and that was without even seeing the movie! What will he think now that he's seen it? We had such a fun time talking with him about this bonkers movie, and we hope you'll have just as much fun listening.
Weirdly, a constantly-wisecracking Ryan Reynolds isn't less irritating when you add a child version of him making the same smug jokes. Are Netflix's widely-reported woes because they churn out dreck like The Adam Project? The world may never know!
Fiendish gamemaster Dan returns to quiz the other Peaches on some of the hardest working men in showbiz. Things start goofy and only get goofier when Dan realizes how bad he is at counting.
The erotic thriller is back, baybee! Sure, it has more Ben Affleck gazing lovingly at snails than it used to, but you gotta expect that kind of wear and tear after leaving it in the garage for a couple of decades. This week, the peaches take on Adrian Lyne's direct-to-Hulu cuckold murder-stravaganza Deep Water.

Jason Reitman gives Ghostbusters back to the FANS, MAAAAAN! By giving them what they want -- a comedy without jokes! We're not sure what Ghostbusters: Afterlife is, but it's sure not a Ghostbusters movie, which is weird, considering it spends every waking moment trying to elbow you in the ribs with references to Ghostbusters.
